This vast cosmopolitan City, its laid back & does not act like its the best city in the world, no 1 is big headed, the Brummies just get on with it, I love it there & the people. Look at the movie Lord of the Rings, it's based on Birmingham & I've never heard the City boast about it, the twin towers are there still & no one bats an eyelid because they are so chilled out. Not even the skyline but even Lickey hills on the southern edge if the city, the little castle like pedestal there, you can not see the whole of the City & the black country but you can feel the Souls of over a million people, you can actually feel their warmth. I so love Birmingham ❤
It is great to see some one else a proud Brummie like myself, the bit about Lord of the Rings and the two towers were based in Birmingham as Tolkien was living in Hall Green Birmingham when he wrote those books, but because Lord of the Rings film was made in New Zealand every one thinks that is where Tolkien wrote that book not in Birmingham
As a Brummie I can not understand peoples views on my Great City, on this site people are saying what a beautiful City on other sites they run Birmingham Down as a Dump. As a Brummie I am proud of my City and how beautiful it looks now and the amount of people who have never visited Birmingham but run it down and then see the City for their selves and are totally astonished how modern and open my City is, Birmingham the UK's second largest City has changed vastly over the years and has now emerged as a very modern, cosmopolitan and diverse City that shocks people hen they see it even so when visitors came to Birmingham for the 2022 Commonwealth Games from all over the Commonwealth they were totally shocked on how Birmingham and us Brummies welcomed them with friendliness and open arms, so if you have never ever been to Birmingham before take it from a Brummie come and visit my great City and you will not be disappointed.
When I lived in Birmingham (2011-15) I used to say that people who complained about how awful Brum was, either (i) had never been there or (ii) had never been anywhere else.
@@chrisamies2141 This is true to what happened when visitor during the Commonwealth Games came to Birmingham they could not believe how cosmopolitan, diverse and modern Birmingham is and was not how they thought Birmingham was, like the time a few weeks ago my wife and I visited the secret Garden on top of the Birmingham Central Library and we were chatting to their gardener and she was saying that visitors were coming from all over the country and couldn't believe how lovely our new modern City is.
I lived in Birmingham back in 2012, the city looked very different, but many things remain just the same. Your video has brought many beautiful memories to my heart. Thank you so much!
Excellent - great details of the centre of B'rum - and linking the 'streets' to the canals which are so often ignored or missed. Gas street Basin is a great place to moor your boat (saves on hotel bills...). Thank you!
My home town, not been back now for about 4 years thanks to covid and life speeding by too quickly. Can't wait to meet up with some of my old mates and have one of our "well refreshed" Birmingham weekends. I'll have to do it soon we're all knocking 60 and won't be capable for much longer.
Next time you visit Birmingham, you should go into the library (the building that is decorated with rings and looks like a layer cake with a gold cherry on the top) because they have a rooftop garden with gorgeous views across the city. Birmingham has the biggest metropolitan council in Europe, we also have more canals than Venice. Its a great place to live and work.
Birmingham is not a metropolitan Council, it has a City Council. The metropolitan council is the West Midlands Metropolitan Council of Which the City of Birmingham is the capital. the 3 Cities of the West Midlands are just that Cities which are Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Coventry, it is only the smaller towns of the the West Midlands that are metropolitan Borough's or councils.
Taken very well. We have filmed there many times and am always amazed at how many people are critical of the City. Lovely video 🙏👍 we always get copyright issues with buskers 🤣 we captured 🙏 quarter of the way through will watch the rest later 👍
Great video Kinetic walker!! i am just new to your channel and love watching it. we shoot running videos, love the stability of your camera. Thank you from your new friends in Ireland 🇮🇪
Only just morning - the clock chimed 12 just as you passed the ventillation shaft! (sorry for the pedantry). Overall a very nice video ***** Thanks very much!! (from a retired canaller.|)
I left Handsworth Grammar school in 1979 and back then Birmingham was a different place, race problems, high unemployment, huge disused empty factories abandoned all around, canals full of rubbish, just left to decay, I moved away in 1992 and hardly went back for 25 years and then I paid a visit and WOW WOW WOW!!!!! I was stunned, gone were the intimidating subways, the city centre was pedestrianised, EVERYTHING looked better, a new tram system, funky new buildings, the public transport is better, the race relations issues are massively improved and its not just the amazing city centre that has been transformed, Longbridge, Perry Barr, Stirchley, Digbeth, Hockley, the jewelry quarter, all much much better than I ever thought was possible, I am so impressed that we will be moving back to my home city for my retirement from Devon !!!! Birmingham rocks !!
Birmingham still has these problems today not much has changed mental health issues in Birmingham and west midlands is high. Racism issues still In Birmingham segregated areas and high employment big factors as well as crime.
@oqivg Agree. Locals are very racist and areas are segregated loads of English brummies living in segregated areas of Birmingham no integration at all are uneducated and lack in tolerance.
as a Brummie myself birmingham is really blowing up i went to the city center with my fam because they had live music on great night when it finished it was a peacful night no truoble it was just peacful but it gets my blood when people from the uk bringing birmingham down they never been here in there life just look up the news for negative things about birmingham and can i just say this the city center is the cleanest iv seen and also im sick to death of manchester people keeping going on there the second city they got a bigger airport there not the second city and no gives a rats ass about there airport wev got big planes come here 747 something manshity dont have but anyway everyone welcome to birmingham will give them a nice warm welcome
And yet everyone seems to think of Birmingham as the ugliest city, when they haven't actually visited it. It's got areas that don't look good, but so does every city
I lived in London. Been to Liverpool, Manchester. What does Birmingham have that the other 3 may not? I was gonna live in London, but the inability to have nature nearby (big city parks DONT count) made me feel claustrophobic. Liverpool and Manchester are too up north for me. I wonder if Birmingham is cool. Also, what's the cultural offering like compared to the rest of England bar London? Signed, a portuguese considering living in England again.
Birmingham although the second largest City in the UK is a very open and Green City, infact it is the greenest City in Europe with over 150 parks and green areas, it has a fantastic night life and restaurants and fantastic tourism and Shopping, and the Brummies, Birmingham Citizens are very friendly.
Birmingham is very culturally diverse, plenty of parkland and different areas with their own type of character. If you want countryside a little known fact it there is a kind of large tongue or lung of land that goes very close in to the city called Sandwell valley, one short bus ride and you are there and there are miles of countryside to explore. Going south is the same, one bus ride and you are in nature. If you drive then your options are huge with the counties of Worcestershire, Warwickshire, the Black Country, and Shropshire all in striking distance and the Welsh borders not far either. But the city has loads to do, lots of watering holes and very diverse cuisine, as well as galleries and lots of educational choices. If you do decide to come here for a visit or to live be adventurous, don’t just stick to where you live, explore the city. As you can see from this great video the city centre is very interesting and there is loads to do, places to walk, to sit and relax, and it has a lot going for it. The canals in particular are really nice, have been modernised and made into beautiful spaces. There a lot to do no matter what your budget. No matter where you are from it is easy to feel at home here because of the great diversity of people. I felt very proud of it, watching this video. I have lived here most of my life and there were new things even for me to discover.
As a born and bred Brummie of 67 years (a Birmingham Citizen) I can tell you that if you want nature Birmingham is the tops, it has more green open spaces and parks than any City in Europe, there are parks and green areas all over the City and has 3 fantastic large parks as well as smaller parks those being Cannon Hill Park, The Lickey Hills Country Park and one of the largest parks in Europe, Sutton Park which was given to the then independent town of Sutton Coldfield by King Henry 8th. Birmingham has Museums tourist places and a very modern divers City with top shops and is close to Stratford on Avon, Warwick and the Cotswolds and with in easy reach of London by both Train and Coach with out the expensive rents of London
Birmingham Is boring and everyone is miserable and depressed in Birmingham the council are rubbish and don't invest in their city areas are still very run down people in Birmingham are not creative at all.

Is the bullring back with the silver balls ( as i called them ) insted of the ugly pink and black pattern ?
I think is still pink and black
The ugly pink and black covering was put in place whilst maintenance was taking place. The work's completed now and covering removed.

back with silver balls
They are back now, the building was being cleaned up
Birmingham is the twin city of Karachi.
Are those building private or govt owned?
both :)
