Waste Management Labrie Cool Hand Split Body Garbage Truck

- This here is a rather unusual specimen to see from Waste Management - a Labrie Cool Hand side loader, split body none-the-less, mounted atop a Peterbilt 320 chassis. Despite the Cool Hand being a generally poor ASL arm design - the truck must leave a minimum of 42 inches between itself and the containers, making it impossible to use in alleys and on narrow streets, and causing it be just a general traffic hazard/inconvenience; and on top of that, the arm utilizes a plethora of small, overly complicated moving parts - I found it quite entertaining to watch. On top of that, this particular unit seems to have been pretty well maintained over the course of its life. Here on this particular day, this truck was collecting garbage on the smaller side of the body, and yard debris on the larger side of the body, in the mid-sized town of Newberg, OR.

These trucks used to be the rule at GreenTeam San Jose. More recently, though (a few days before this was shot), the Cool Hands and Automizers (both co-collectors) were replaced. Garbage is now done by McNeilus ZRs, and recycling by larger capacity Automizers.
I remember the last time this type of truck was in my neighborhood was in 2008/2009 nice find!
Great work! It really does look like a unique truck. The arm looks like it needs to be maintained a lot.
I think this is an excellent job. Garbage man has a bad rep as a job because in the past men had to physically dump cans and it was dirty, hard, rough work. Looks like a nice air conditioned, safe, stead job to me. Probably union with benefits too. I would rather do this than low level management any day.
World most impractical arm, yet very fun to watch!

The funny thing is that New Way Sidewinders old style arms or very similar to the Labrie cool hand but difference from the Labrie design still a very cool truck
