This is without a doubt the most infuriating Boss Fight I ever had to play. I was waiting to kick Scales ass for so long, yet the moment i attacked him it was a cutscene and I already got the spirit....
I know the Microsoft buyout caused this game to be rushed. But whose bright idea was it to make Andross the final boss rather than fighting the guy you’ve been building up to the entire game?!
Scales would have been a hilariously fun boss to fight. He threw his men at you and turned invisible, he has a claw hand and a sword and could grab anyone with just one arm and either chock them or throw them like they were rag dolls. andross did not need to be in this game.
Apparnently there was originall going to be a General Scales fight, and that's where Falco was going to make is appearance, before teaming up to fight Andross...sadly, Microsoft's acquisition of Rare rushed the game, and this was one of it's many casualties. Yeah, it did leave a big sour taste in my mouth, not going to lie, it was built up just to con us out of it.
This boss is quite literally impossible. Once the cutscene starts, there's an unavoidable move called "Disappointment" which instantly kills you and either causes you to reload your save or just accept the unfortunate turn of events.
A bit late that I noticed, but I have personally deleted the same *damn* comment you spammed all over the place in the comment section. Refrain yourself from being a broken record, please, or face being blocked.
"RAREWARE! You are no longer any use to me!" "Who are you?! I demand you show yourself!" "I am the one who allowed you into this world! The Star Fox team could see me, but you could not." "I don't understand." "No, I didn't think you would. Your desire for a fully fleshed out game overwhelmed you, and blinded you to the truth inside. Now, return Fox where he belongs. Give him his Arwing, so he can be the space shooter he was meant to be!" "You will regret this..."
It’s actually a surprise that Scales was even programmed to ignore Fox while he’s disguised. Definitely a hint that there was originally meant to be a proper fight.
You were going originally going fight gerenal scales based on evidence in the games code with voice recording still in the game itself. During the fight falco will come to aid you. What happened is they run out of development time due by the Microsoft brought out during the time.
I remember the first time I pulled the staff out to hit him because I didn’t know any better and was just baffled at how it took one hit to trigger the cut scene. I actually reloaded my save almost instantly to see if there’s some way to get him to fight and there isn’t. This is such a massively missed opportunity to make this one of the best boss fights in the game and they completely fucked it up. For the record I'm 28 and I've still never gotten over this. Great video though man, I love how you toyed with him.
This game’s development started late in N64’s life and dragged on for a year after the GC came out. Rare was racing to get the game out before they were officially bought by Microsoft. I enjoyed this game back I the day for the breakthrough graphics, but replaying it 10 years later made apparent to me that Rare cut corners: pretty bad stock music, stock sounds effects (the staff shot fire ball sounds like Truman’s show scene when the artificial fire goes across the road), bad world design (only one store, in the central hub that connects every zone), forgiving/stupid AI where enemies take turns to hit you (!), and of course, they didn’t have the time left to program the final battle. Interesting game that was a product of its time.
@@Kilaueaorph4n Yea I know about the backstory behind the game's development, well most of it and I too enjoyed it back then. Actually when I bought a GC I had 4 games I could pick from, Metroid, Warioware INC, Luigi's Mansion, & Star Fox: Adventures, which as you've no doubt guessed it, I went with Star Fox. I did enjoy Adventures and I don't think it's a bad game by any means, but when you really break it down it's a bit mediocre and left a lot to be desired, which is also why I would've loved to have seen Dinosaur planet. Back then when I heard it was a different game and they added Star Fox I was like "Yea Star Fox would make this game better", but now I'm older, more mature and I realize Star Fox didn't make it better and it should've been it's own thing, a brand new IP that carved out its own identity. I've been a Star Fox fan since I was like 7 playing Star Fox 64 more times than I can count and I swear it has always pissed me off that Nintendo has never given Star Fox just like Metroid the attention and recognition they deserve. It also ticks me off they're always telling the same story with Star Fox, like for God sakes try something new. This is also why I like and can accept Adventures & Assault because they actually do take the story in a different direction. Though while I understand the disdain for Adventures, I don't understand it for Assault. I mean sure the story is dark and completely different, but at its core it was at least a Star Fox game. I mean shit dude I'm passionate enough that I wrote a short plot for 4 of my own Star Fox game titles, Star Fox: Renegade, Rebellion, Conquest/Collectors, & Opposition, since every Star Fox game is always one word. Still waiting for Krystal in Smash, but her assist trophy in Ultimate tells me straight up that they absolutely can make her playable. Her assist can do so much stuff, she may as well playable because she already has a borderline moveset.
I never minded that they shoe-horned in Andross at the end and in some ways it is kind of neat (Falco showing up to help) but not having a boss fight with Scales is so stupid
The first time I played this game. I thought scales was the true final boss but plot twist andross was the final boss. Same goes with me playing twilight princess and thinking zant was the final boss but ganondorf steals the spotlight.
Fun fact, there's no Scales boss fight in Dinosaur Planet either xd It was planned at first but scrapped in later stages of development. At the very least he meets a more satisfying end in Dino Planet than he does in Star Fox Adventures.
When I played through this game so many years ago - and without aid of any guides - this part was exciting. Gen. Scales, little though we saw of him throughout the journey, seemed like he would be a menacing and difficult yet exciting villain to face. When he appeared here I really thought I was finally going to get to see what he could actually do in battle. Being none the wiser I immediately drew the staff to fight and then...zilch. I wonder rather the devs ran out of development time or something and were forced not to include a fight with Scales as a result, or maybe they planned it all along? Such a pity. This could have been an intense battle. Making Scales an actual boss is the one thing I would truly change about this game. Everything else..the same. Even the fight with Andross after this. Pursuing Scales and his army the whole game through only to have him tossed aside at the end was a stupid decision.
Bro I did the same thing. The moment I had control I smacked the hell out of A, so the cutscene triggers and I'm just dumbfounded the entire time. The second it's over I reload the save to just before the fight, face him again, and simply do nothing to see if he'll attack, and quickly realized he's not programmed to. Even my 10 year old self was pissed about that, even at 28 it makes me mad as hell seeing what this became and contemplating what it could've been.
You think you were disappointed? I got all the way here, and my game glitched, and softlocked me in a room that I couldn't escape from, and when I reloaded the game, it saved in that room. The door would never open and I couldn't leave. So I had to replay the entire boring game again, hoping to bite into an epic boss fight with General Scales.....but sadly this boss proved to be only scales and bones. T~T
The reason this happened was because at the time Microsoft bought rare from Nintendo from Rare so they had to rush the rest of the game because Microsoft forced them to like a dick. Infact, there's a bunch of unused voice lines including General Scales that would have been probably used had Rare not been rushed, and there was even unused music for him, which I think was this one.
