Except most of it was totally fictionalized. Movie doesn’t mention that these German guys lost the case against Google because someone else at SRI in California invented the concept well before these German guys filed their patent, so it was found invalid. A jury verdict found the patent invalid and the verdict was upheld after appeal

@Svënsk oh god, yes! Europe has always had the best content. Films or series, hands down, just the best. I mean, you can't even compare French, Russian, German and Scandinavian cinema to Hollywood cinema. Even during their so-called "golden age", Hollywood was and will always be trash.
@Svënsk you should check out some of my favourites (film): Blue is the Warmest Colour, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Cache, Wesna, Solaris, Mirror, The Hunt, Land of Mine, Master of the House and Stealing Rembrandt. For series: Dark, The Rain, Borgen, Love & Anarchy, Sparta, Better than Us, Catherine the Great and Tribes of Europa. I hope you'll like and enjoy some of these.

The music,the visuals, the acting and that the show is based on the real story of Juri and Carsten which is an extraordinary story itself, makes Billion Dollar Code one of my favorite shows this year. It is a story about friendship, trust, amazing talent, intelligence,innovation and justice.
As a german it means so much to me to see series like "Dark", "Biohackers" and "The Billion Dollar Code"...
I always hated german productions but nowadays they actually gettin into it.
Whoever sees this, have a wonderful life!

What an incredible story! They're right, big companies do this all the time. Amazon does this to compete directly with the products they stole from, but under their own brand, Amazon Basics and many others.

It's sad to see this happens, a friends betrayal taking their company ideas and making it his own selling it to google. Its just wrong and glad to see a documentary was made for them. They truly deserve justice.

I don't know what surprises me more: netflix producing/distributing a show that exposes a patent infrigement scam they probably also commit, or google letting them run trailers about it. Maybe they don't care anymore.

This series has made me view Google in a different light. Shame that they couldn’t have done what appears to have been the right thing. It was unfortunate that Mueller seems to have naively freely given away so much of ArtCom’s intellectual property, in relation to the source code. The case appears to have been heard in the US. However, with Google’s inevitable power in US society, it might have been better to have the case explored in a neutral country and perhaps in a neutral language. Why should English be the dominant language? It was most unfortunate that the jury appeared to lack the technological understanding required to understand the intricacies of the case. Were all the jury members American?! If so, this must surely represent another bias in Google’s favour

Key in uber was GPS. I too used wikimapia, post GIS, open street maps, open layers etc. Wrote some algos for tanker picking up output and geofencing. Cool. Eager😊

Terravision, which was developed by Paul Neve in the late 1990s, was indeed a precursor to Google Maps. While it didn't have the same zoomable user interface that Google Maps does, it did offer interactive mapping features and was one of the earliest examples of online mapping technology. Google Maps later built upon this concept, incorporating zoomable maps as a key feature.
Netflix creates a show to screw Google and uploads the trailer on Google's UA-cam. This is the pinnacle of capitalism

I was quite surprised when I discovered that some of the Netflix series were using Keine Melodien (MJ Lan Mix Extended Version), a piece of music typically associated with subcultural representation. It was posted on UA-cam channels such as kittyyomusic and I stumbled across it with the help of Google's song recognizer. I'm not sure if the Germans are particularly fond of Google or not, but I'm sure glad I found this particular melody! It adds an interesting element to the Netflix series and it has made me curious to explore more of what the subcultural scene has to offer.

Very interesting and informative series. My opinion regarding this case is solely based on this tv series.
In this series it's shown that juries have no technical knowledge regarding the technology/case as this case requires a very sound knowledge of technical aspects. How can they give their decisions without having technical knowledge?.
And secondly we know that every country wants to protect their own resident company. This is not the perfect world we are living in. So this type of cases should be filled or heard In the international courts of justice. I know that powerful countries have an influence everywhere but still it would be much better option in today's world.
