Thanks for posting! Many people forget that in the beginning of gymnastics, Worlds were not held every year! Hence why Olga Korbut and Nadia Comanici don't have medals. Worlds were also invitation only, meaning the US wasn't considered until after 1964 and often sent entire university teams! In some years, communist regimes didn't even allow their teams to travel especially if the event was held in the West! Those were the days!

    • @ArtByDesign80

Olga competed in 74 worlds…leaving with 2 gold and 4 silvers (including AA).
Nadia did complete in 78 and 79….was 4th in AA in 78 and suffered blood poisoning in 79 helping win team gold before being hospitalized.

@ArtByDesign80 Thank you for the correction. I said what I did because some people believe certain meets were not "Worlds" rather "invitationals" or "friendlies", which have a lower status than Worlds. It was really confusing back then.

Olga was the first gymnast I ever saw in print in a library and I wanted to do that.
Shannon Miller, Shawn Johnson, earlier favs. Weiber, from my home state of Michigan now coaching the Razorbacks, my ancestral plain. And the incomparable Biles-Owens. Definitely one of my favorites, along with Khorkina, Boginskaya, Mustafina, Andrade.
    thanks for the compilation 🥰

She had some injury issues (recurrent elbow problems that required surgery). She also had committed to the university of Florida as a gymnast and the delay to 2021 caused her to decide not to try out for the Olympic team. Sadly, her freshman year essentially never happened because she tore her acl. She competed some this year, but looked a little out of rhythm.

She would definitely have been the AA champion if her floor exercise had gone better unfortunately. Her beam also had a couple of sketchy spots. Her coaches stated after that she could definitely have had a little better day. She still got the bars title though, and another one in 2015. My biggest “oh if only” was Rio 2016. She had far and away the best bars in the world and could very definitely have won the Olympic title on them. Dratted back. What I’m hoping is she and her husband will have a daughter that follows in her footsteps. Can you imagine another like her in the future!!
