My mate has a flat in Barcelona and he travels there quite often.
I set up a router for him which he plugs to his original router , powers it on and the router connects over the vpn to my server in UK.
He gets a new wifi network which he can connect any device to and that network is already on the VPN (devices get UK public IP)
He can connect his TV using network cable to that router or using WiFi.
The system works well and it's hassle free.
I am thinking I could offer the service to more people who are interested in having UK services abroad
The cost would definitely be lower than any other VPN services out there.
And it's relatively easy setup as well, where you power the router and plug it into your original one at home.

Hi, nice idea and I can see how it would work in a limited capacity and potentially with someone you know.
I think you would struggle when it came to scale though as anyone you were routing through your network would be limited to the bandwidth you have available, so the more people you have the slower the service would be.
I also imagine people you didn't know may have some concerns about their data being routed through your network and your ability to access it, this may also be a concern for you as someone routed through your networks could be doing something spurious and it would look to originate from your IP address.
The dynamic scalability, end to end encryption and privacy policy for me is an important part of a VPN services offering.

If I were to offer such service to a wider group I would use highly available infrastructure and most likely it would be hosted on one of the cloud providers (AWS, Azure, etc) so there would be no issues with bandwidth
With regards to privacy, you can only trust VPN providers to what they state on their website.
I could say the same thing, nothing would be logged and as it's a vpn it's end to end encrypted
Most likely a word of mouth would do initially and I don't think i would go proper public with it, but if there was enough interest I could reconsider .

One of the reasons I choose Express VPN is that they are independently audited for privacy and security by PWC - so it's not just the case of believing what they say on their website.
My suspicion is once you put in place the infrastructure and the levels of protection people would expect you would end up having to charge a similar cost to what they would pay existing VPN providers to be able to make anything out of it and I presume cost would be your USP. Remembering that larger services would give them 24/7 support and servers across the world to be able to access streaming services in other countries not just the UK.

However we are here talking about the possibility of watching UK programmes abroad , so only UK VPN and not any other country.
The service would be designed for your TV only or purely for accessing any streaming services.
Even if someone could check your traffic, all they would see is you accessing netflix or Amazon servers etc
It would definitely be cheaper than other VPNs
If people want privacy they can always buy express VPN :)

Hi is there a website where you can watch all UK channels? (Instead of going separately on each channels site like itvx or bbc.)
Not that I know of. But you can use the freeview App to see what is on on all the channels and then when you click the channel it will open the relevant app for you to watch it.
If you have Sky Go or Virgin Go you can watch them through those Apps.
Any idea how to install ITVX APP on Android TV (Sony) ?
Sorry I don’t. This is why we prefer to go with a dumb TV and Smart stick are quicker and easier to update rather than waiting for the TV manufacturers to add the Apps to their own products.
Do you know if its possible to watch a US show in the UK with VPN? I want to watch young sheldon season 7, but its not available in the UK, but its on paramount+ in the US. So i wonder if i can use that in the UK to watch it?
It will depend on how the subscription service determine what to show you. For example Netflix uses your IP location so it would work for them.
If Paramount+ do the same then it would work. However if they base it on your billing address for example it wouldn’t.
Question is ITV acts available in the United States like bridbox Americans would like to subscribe
I suspect you can’t subscribe to the premium service, but using a VPN you should be able to watch the standard service with adverts.

Depends on the make of Smart TV, if it android, Sony or Samsung pretty sure they have the ExpressVPN App.
For anything else I think you will struggle to find a VPN that runs on the TV.
If you are using a suitable router you can install the VPN on them so that any device connected routes through it. But that gets a bit technical.
It’s one of the reasons I always recommend having a dumb TV and a smart stick that way you are not limited to the Apps the TV manufacturer supports and you can upgrade the stick without replacing the whole TV.

I am afraid I have no experience of Sky Stream so can't comment on this.
I can see there are some comments on it in the Sky Forum, but you seem to have to be a Sky subscriber to access.

Sorry I forgot to mention I was using my I phone to try to view U.K. TV Play with my VPN but it shows up as not available outside the U.K.
Which VPN service are you using and are you using your phone’s Mobile data or connecting to a foreign WiFi hotspot?
We’ve watched UKTV play on foreign networks on iPad and iPhone using Express VPN without an issue.
NB not sure if it is related but we’re currently in the UK and just tried the UKTV App and it keeps saying “Sorry, We can’t load this content right now” so may be there are issues their end.

Strange we have never had this problem I wonder if UKTV Play have implemented location services in their App.

Hi, I am afraid the Now TV box does not allow installation of a VPN App.
We run Now TV App on an Amazon FireStick, which does allow the installation of VPN Apps and just install the ExpressVPN App and hit connect.

Hi could be quite hard to diagnose - What VPN are you using? have you tried different UK servers if it has different ones like ExpressVPN does.
It could be that the App store is using your device's location to show what Apps are available in the country you are in so you may not be able to get to the App. You may have had to do that in the UK.
DO you have a good network speed? I find with the VPN you need a little more bandwidth than when watching without.
@@ExploreVanUK i’m using Nord. I have it on my iPhone and fire stick. When I go to the App Store on my iPhone, it says that the app is unavailable in my area. But I have Nord set to a server in London. And when I go to the website, I can select what I want to watch, but it refuses to play.

Hi I’ve never tried Nord VPN only Express VPN, but can’t see why it shouldn’t work the same.
What App are you using and what device? How are you connecting to the internet? WiFi, Cellular, what network and what country are you in?

Unfortunately there are no VPN services included in the App Now TV allow.
You would need to go with a media stick that supports VPN Apps.

I recently got a second hand satellite dish.. it’s a bit of a pain to keep setting up. I noticed you had one which looks much better than mine.. is your still a pain to set up?
Hi - we have a Maxview Crank Up roof mounted dish. I wouldn't say it was a pain, but it can be a bit fiddly. Once you get used to it, it's pretty easy.
If you have an iPhone I'd recommend using the App "Dish Align" which gives you the direction, elevation and LNB skew angle to use for your location. We then also use a separate Satellite signal strength meter for the fine positioning.

As the foot print of the UK satellites is now so small it only covers North West of Mainland Europe we tend to use Streaming services more.
so is there a uk website to watch tv shows and movies from uk? any uk site i go to wants me to sign up, or gives a error saying need a license?
All the major channels have free streaming services. BBC iPlayer, itv X, channel 4,my 5, ukPlay.
We also subscribe to Now TV for premium channels.
I would have liked to have watched the ashes & the Ryder cup but didn't have a VPN, but would I have been able to watch it free ?
Not sure about the Ryder Cup, but the Ashes is on Sky Sports so to watch on Now TV requires a subscription in addition to the VPN.

You’ll probably find the Apps have blocked the surf shark IP addresses, so it will depend how quickly Surf Shark change them to get them up and running again.
With Express VPN they have multiple UK based servers so if one gets blocked you can just move to a different one.
Since you have alot of experience with 4G internet and multiple providers, have you ever heard of anyone being kicked or suspended from Smarty for using a ulimited data only sim for homebroad band?

I've not heard of anyone personally and I've just check a few forums and there is no mention of anyone being blocked due to this clause.
I think you will find similar clauses in all most deals but suspect that it's only ever going to get enforced if someone is absolutely hammering it. Which to be honest is probably good for anyone else that lives near or is trying to use the same tower as them as they would be sucking the life out of it. This type of clause is mainly about protecting the performance for other customers, as it would be unfair for one customer to be constantly hammering the bandwidth in a single location.
My suspicion is that this is to stop somewhere such as a hotel utilising the service to sell on / provide WiFi to their guests.
As SMARTY is rolling 30 day deal it's not that you would lose out if they did suspend your service anyway.
