FYI Richelieu, French 1600s Cardinal (church leader) & politician, set up a treaty returning Canada's Québec province to French rule. Also invented the round-tip table knife! True.
In Palm Desert, CA (American Southwest) you would sometimes see a Canadian snowbird cruising down hwy 111 in a Canadian land yacht. Always a sight to behold and leaves you with the question "What kinda car was that?"
I remember going to Canada as a kid. All these American looking cars with different names and trim. Dodge truck's were Fargo's. Mercury's were Meteors. Dodge's had Plymouth interiors! It was very strange!
Nobody is saying it, but I’m seeing a lot of Edsel inspired design in that Richelieu ... divided grille, wide body spears and taillights all look like Edsel. 😊
As for the wide rear window , keep in mind that the USA started the Highways project to promote vacations by car in the USA. By1960 there had been 4 door hardtop Station Wagon with thin Pillars for the panaramic views while site seeing. Mercury had the Breezeway series where the vertical rear window had about a 60% middle section that was power retracting to drop into the trunk , Lincolns had the same on the huge Continetals . The 1960 FORD Starliner had an amazing view as a 4 door hardtop with the very thin B pillar.
One of the really rare cars was the 1958 Meteor version of the Rachero . FORD pulled the plug in October 1957 when the Ranchero concept wasn't selling that well. It had just one Trim level and 2 interior colours where options were sparse . That 58 Meteor version only saw 54 copies where 12 had the V8 . It was basically the Niagara 2 dr Wagon but it didn't share the front end trim with any other FORD. If you find one that needs lots of sheet metal work or is in good shape with no front section....take the sheet metal repair with a front end and forget the other one with no front end because you'll end up having to put a 58 FORD ranchero on it and negate it being a Meteor.
I wanted to see you open that 428 up and see how it hauled ass! A shame having an engine like that and not showing people what it can do!!!! Burn a little rubber and get it upto a 100MPH!!!!! I bet the frenchmen from Quebec that owned that Monarch back in the day floored it a few times and drove it fast as hell....like all frenchmen do!
Alluding to the fact that Pontiac usually outsold Chevrolet in Canada, and that Canada had its own series of Pontiacs: Strato-Chief, Laurentian, and Parisienne. Built on Chevrolet chassis (not the Wide Track US chassis), these cars were built in Québec.
I still have a 'Hotwheels or Lesney ? Mercury Commuter. Station wagon. Thing is, I have NEVER seen the real thing. Were they a Canadian only Mercury ? I am guessing that this model is based on a 1968 Merc... Anyone know where I can get a peek of the actual car ? It would certainly fill-in some gaps in my imagination.
Just picked up a 68 ParkLane convertible. It’s almost as big as my 79 Mark V
Both of those cars are GORGEOUS. The 60s Mercurys are far and away my favorite
Respectful restoring - '68 altered colour*, '61 white roof - enhances original beauty! Well done. (*from another Canadian 🇨🇦! )
Those are some really beautiful Canadian Landyachts brother.
My man actually had the step up from this the Meteor Lemoyne only one of 250 with the 428 robin egg blue . Blue interior and convertible top
Fascinating!
Nice cars
That ‘68 Merc is gorgeous!!!!
In 1961 the Mercurys and Fords shared the same body style...but the styling looks closer to Mercury! The 61 Meteor looks closer to the Ford though..

Living in Virginia, Canadian specific cars are kind of a curiosity to me. These were beautiful curiosities that deserve love.
REAL NICE CARS EXCELLENT VIDEO
The Freeway cruise control is linkage hooked directly to the carb, almost like a choke. It worked terribly when new.
Seems Vernon wasn't taking the bait, EH....Dennis?
Is that a `68 Lincoln Continental front grill on that Park Lane?
Those are awesome looking big giant Canadian land yachts. There the Canadian version of the big giant American cars.

Looks like that Mercury Park Lane would take four acres to turn around.
Pontiac was Not Canadain . you mean Beaumont?

The Commuter was the least expensive Mercury station wagon in the US from 1957 to the late 60s
I find Dennis Gage mildly annoying.
Then this probably isn't the channel for you because I'm in every video.
