Absolutely I painted my z28 with ebay paint, definitely is far from perfect especially on the passenger side but the money I saved in paint went towards a rowdy 454 big block
Only 100 hours where did you get that number I just painted my Mercedes-Benz rear bumper on my turbo diesel maybe twelve hours of prep just for a bumper plus removing an installation
That black with that much chrome still on it, with those wheels. That is really a beauty. She's gonna be turning heads for sure while you are out having fun with it.
Over the years I'm starting to judge less on looks, and more in the build quality/ingenuity of a car, I'll always hold the ole adage in my head "Looks like shit, goes like stink."
Not bad. Don't forget to untape the Pentastar emblem on the lower right fender. UT, as a pro painter friend said of me many years ago..."As a painter, you make a pretty darn good mechanic, lol." But you did better than i could of UT.
Ordered a 67 440 Magnum 4 speed while serving in the military in Germany. Took delivery of it when I got home......ABSOLUTELY LOVED THAT CAR!!! Wound up selling it in 1969 in order to put a ring on my GF's finger. Regret it to this day!!! I put on it American Mags like the ones on your car.....brought back fond memories. Keep up the good work. You're a solid good person!
Not bad. Im a body and paint guy so? A little stripped on the trunk but hay your not trying to pretend you’re something you’re not. I love that car tons. Thanks so much for giving it the opportunity to live!! My uncle Tony . See ya tomorrow!
I just want to hear that 440 fire up and you and Uncle Cathy going down the road! I love that design of Charger and Coronet. I had one with a 361 with an AVS. and I loved that car. The 361 might be a truck motor but a good tune and a set of headers and the 383 cam and you can hardly tell from a 383. Mine was like a clock. Pop the cap off and check the points before a trip, and put a spare points and condenser and a ballast resistor in the glove compartment, you are golden. You can also go back after the trip and clean it really good and wet sand it if you want. I have always done it. My 65 Galaxie LTD is Caspian Blue. I had to mix my own paint, and I used Nason paint. I wet sanded it and it looked like a pro job. You done good! That’s what a bucket of water and sandpaper.
The hot rod black with the torque thrust d's = perfect look! I believe this is my favorite car of yours now! Well maybe other than the 68 Roadrunner, hard choice there!👍
Been watching your channel for quite some time & I very much enjoy it. Growing up in the 50’s & 60’s I’m very much a charger fan.The 67 model year hasn’t been my favorite but after watching this car progress I must admit it has risen to a car I would be proud to own. I’ve been a mechanic all my life & your knowledge & skill is amazing, your top notch keep up the good work, thanks.
Your commentary video on plateaus of perfection is excellent for old cars ... and everything else. Well done Mr. Tony on saving a real cool example of a rare Gen1 Charger.
Nice, I'm proud for you, I just painted my gbody cutlass thanks to your videos on the green car then the orangish red car, thank you and Uncle Kathy for all y'all do
That smile though... Right on Tony! Sometimes ya just gotta bite the bullet and do it yourself. That's where I'm at restoring our '65 C10. People get busy, stuff happens and people are flakes. Ya CAN'T sit on it forever
Nothing more permanent than a job you are ok with, when you have a bunch of other stuff to fix. I keeping running into this. That body style is growing on me.
I have had really good luck with Summit Racing branded paints. I love the black primer it is almost good enough to leave. I am doing a black primer and blue sealer from the coating store and sanding through then clearing it for a faux Tina. If I painted it nice I wouldn’t wnjoy it as much, this way I can drive it and looks good with my old camper top. Looks good to me!
I fell in love with this car when I watched you race the white, police package Hemi Charger. I loved the look, the sound, EVERYTHING about this car. I admit that, I was afraid painting the car was going to take away some of its weathered beauty from being saved. However, that color, the body all nice and straight now......yep, still one of my favorite cars in your collection. Jay Leno has a bigger, more eclectic collection of vehicles in absolutely gorgeous shape, and I would not turn down a chance to help care for those vehicles. However, if I had to chose between your collection and his to custodian into the future and enjoy? I rather have your collection. And that isn't a joke, I could drive every car you own and have a smile on my face, and have a smile on my face working on them too.
I had the exact same feeling taping up my Torino and spraying it primer black. Completely stocked on a car that body guys would snicker at. Love it, enjoy it and beat on it
From what i can tell you actually did a pretty well with that paint job and masking all that trim, you did the best within your own means with what you had and that's all that matters.
Reminds me of Christmas morning. Lol I'm not a Mopar guy but as I get older and see less cars like this getting out on the road I'm happy that any brand is getting taken care of.
Years ago, a friend and I sprayed his '72 Dart with a nice dark blue. We didn't have any runs, but it was a nice consistent orange-peel texture. 😁 I kinda felt bad about it at first. Then he put some white stripes on it and it was spectacular in the sun. The texture didn't reflect, it just had a glow to it. He was so happy with it! His dad was so surprised, up to then he thought it was an ugly piece of junk.
My Dad has done paint any bodywork since the mid 60s, but he loves using Hot-Rod Black. He's suggested painting my 76 GMC C15 in that color after we patch up the body.
My Mom had a ‘66 in white with navy interior. I always loved that car, especially the instrument cluster at night, very sad day when she traded it for a Monte Carlo 😢
Hey UT, Looking back, some of the cars I put in epoxy prime (thinking I'd finish it later) and then peeled so I could drive/race them were my absolute favorites! Didn't care about a new scratch or ding, didn't need wax, just hose 'em off. A video of you painting the car would have neen PERFECT, seeing how us mechanics paint instead of wrenching! Peeling a fresh one has always been a favorite of mine - I even get impatient when it takes too long, I really want to see it!!!!!
Tony please post the days and location where you plan to be at the Woodward Dream Cruise. Hot rods are rolling on Woodward right now and the whole week will be crazy. I’d love to see this car and meet you in person. I really appreciate your hard work.
You have built the perfect driver hot rod you dont have to be scared to drive it and have fun. You can leave it the way it is forever, or make it nicer later. Great job Tony
I love the 66-67 body style Charger & this one looks terrific! These used to be the cheap entry into muscle cars, but like everything else Mopar, & most 60’s cars in general, they have gotten out of my price range. 😩 Have fun on the trip & stay safe!
Something I used to do was thin a cup of Laquer and turn the pressure down and get the timing as such to shoot a slow final coat over the enamel and it would lay out the enamel and smooth orange peel and dry spots, runs to smooth the last coat of enamel out. After a few days curing get it good and wet and and it with 600 wet/dry, rinse, 1000 grit, rinse/2000 grit wet. Let it dry by patting it and then compound it. Polish it. Use a buffing wheel. But don’t use silicone wax. Use a wax for catilyzed enamel . Nason is a catylized enamel. It has to fully cure. But a wash will bring up a new car shine. I don’t know what you used, but it looks fine to me. And if you ever want to lay 4 more coats on, a 220 dry sand, wash tack shoot a non sanding sealer and shoot it again 3-4 coats . Damn that car looks good! I love that vintage of Charger, Coronet, Belvedere, Ford Galaxies, 66-67 Fairlane. 66/67 Chevelle.
IMHO, there is a PRESENCE the '66-67 Charger has, along with a FUNTASTIC, beautiful, one of a kind interior that transformed into a comfortable bedroom, with a giant skylight to stare at the stars with your mate! Add to that, the B body Mopar hooked up outta the hole with the BEST of them, and a little extra weight of the TREMENDOUS fastback, especially with the high compression 440, put this car in a class of it's own! Add the dash "liquid light" and folding headlights, and this car is fast becoming a forgotten star reborn- especially in black with mags and a 440- oh yeah! This beast looks like she's moving sitting still! And she WILL MOVE YOU!
My grandparents bought a new Charger (383) in 1967. It wound up in my hands fifteen years later. Gas to/from college was too danged expensive, so I traded it for a VW Beetle. Yeah, I know - DUMB. I still have the original window sticker and owners manual. But I sure wish I had that car!
My auto body teacher in high school had a great point saying you can teach a monkey to pull the trigger on a spray gun but the true art is in the prep work
Ya know, Uncle Tony, she looks pretty damn good! I am no body and paint guy, so I would have NEVER tried that, but now I'm thinking maybe, just MAYBE, I'll start tackling some paint and body crap! Looking good, man! Keep up the awesome work!
Tony - from an autobody man you can use windex and the softest steel wool pads to polish up those trim strips and Q-tips and carb and choke cleaner to clean up the faces of the charger emblems 😎👍
That looks awesome Tony. Painted my second Oz Valiant satin black, and it didn't come up anything as good as this. Well done for a mechanic. I'm here, waiting for the live with Kiwi to start 😁

I love a 50/50 paint job. From 50 feet or 50 mph it looks great. They don't have to be perfect to be fun!
Absolutely I painted my z28 with ebay paint, definitely is far from perfect especially on the passenger side but the money I saved in paint went towards a rowdy 454 big block
Hardest part of painting is enduring 100 hours of prep work for 1 hour of spraying… looks nice . Definitely not childish and angry !
Only 100 hours where did you get that number I just painted my Mercedes-Benz rear bumper on my turbo diesel maybe twelve hours of prep just for a bumper plus removing an installation
Rather have that paint . Than some crazy expensive paint job that you’re afraid to take out of your garage
The wheels make the car
Thats why im leaving the patina on my 76 Jeep J10.. every single old geezer at car shows.. never drives their cars because of this.
Yep got a 1974, 340, black satellite, roadrunner clone, afraid to drive the dang thing
%100 I drive my 37 Chevy as much as possible. Meanwhile you have garage/trailer queens. No thanks. What are the wheels for if they never roll
@@stevefairchild3337I have a 72 Monte Carlo I did last year and have the same problem. Ready satin black it and run the wheels off
That black with that much chrome still on it, with those wheels. That is really a beauty. She's gonna be turning heads for sure while you are out having fun with it.

Boulevard black really suits the car well. Good pick !
The grin on your face when putting no the 440 badge was priceless
Just imagine if he'd taken the rest of the trim off!
“Merry Christmas” 🎁

I've got a crusty old '66 Charger myself and I really like the hot rod black on these....
Today Earl Schieb smiled down from heaven. A little wet sand/ buff and it will be fine. Looks better than the multi colored primer that it was.
It took me a long time to get the hang of that body but I have become a fan and now to my eye it’s the best charger of them all
