      Have you ever wondered why you as a white man are so enamoured by Thomas Sowell and yet few black people are? And how Thomas Sowell is championed by primarly white conservative and libertarian men? Have you ever had the idea to question as to why that is, and why he only says things that people of your demographic enjoy hearing?

    • @macpyle1669
      @macpyle1669 Місяць тому +33

      @bazimyan No, I haven't because I haven't found anything he's said to be untrue in my research. If you have an untrue claim he's made, let's hear it? It's pretty brave of you to assume people's political leanings online, but hey, that's the new left.

      @@macpyle1669 I already know you're either a white libertarian or conservative because if you weren't you would have said otherwise. And those are the only demographic who champions Sowell so strongly.
      And his claims regarding Trump when it compares to Obama is both wrong and ridiculous. He claimed that Trump was far better than Obama as president without citing one metric except for specific economic indicators (jobs/economy) which were already on the upswing before he ever a set a foot in office. And any economist (by the way, I studied Economics) would tell you that it takes a couple of economic cycles before the polices of the next president is even felt by the public, so those rising economic indicators were due to Obama. Even IF you give those to Trump, then Biden *by those same indicators* is a far superior president to both Obama and Trump. And I highly doubt any conservative would cede that argument.
      Everything that Sowell says is based on how good it sounds to the white conservative. He even speaks against black American reparations as if it's something unprecedented yet the United States government has given reparations to both the Native Americans as well as to the Japanese Americans who were victims of being placed in internment camps during WWII. Yet for some reason he finds it unconscionable that America which committed untold atrocities against black Americans for hundreds of years deserves no redress? He's not credible at all.

      @@bazimyan Former Leftist/Progressive actually. I voted for Obama twice (still better than McCain or Romney imo.) Obama was horrible lol worse than Bush and I don't like either of them. Bush 2 wars 8-9 trillion, Obama mass spying on americans 4 wars, 18 trillion in debt. So if I'm going to call Bush a horrible President, what do you think I'm going to Call Obama. Trump First Step Act, Abraham Accords (we'll see how those hold up so far so good,) USMCA, almost no inflation. The difference is night and day, "keep your doctor, keep your healthcare" what a joke man. Why would you not Champion him? He's a great mind? You want me to champion Chomsky? nah I don't like power grabbing hypocrites.

    21:45 if you think about the contrast to being taught how to work in an office and learning a trade you will see one thing. Being in an office is a controlled environment you are told what to do when to do it and how to do it. But you are also confined to that one workspace and under the control of the people over you.
    With a trade while you will work for people who direct you you have the ability to go out and do side jobs and start your own business.
    You are exactly right learning something you can do on your own takes away the power others have over you. And I mean any race, any creed, any color, it is all about control.

      Something else lost on some young folks is generational wealth started somewhere. Having skills that people are willing to pay for not only does what you mention but it harbours a different mindset in the home… if when the time comes your assets are minimum then at the very least be passing on a work ethic that can thrive outside the nine to five rat race

      @Chrystaldad: This is a bizarre statement that you're making. Interesting that so many people are willing to jump on the bandwagon and agree.
      Your statement doesn't even pass the bullshit test. Many people who have worked in an office environment can learn skills and start their own business. In many ways they may even be more suited to running a business BECAUSE THEY HAVE OFFICE SKILLS, which is different than having a trade. You may know how to lay bricks but if you don't know how to pay your workers or file your taxes, you're not likely to get off the ground as a business. I know because I learned skills in an office environment and now own my own business. As do millions of Americans who have the entrepreneurial spirit. This isn't a competition so no need to inflate yourself by dismissing others.

    The fact that she said she was raised by her dad says it all.
    This is why she is so articulate and level headed.

A few months ago, he asked me to give him some info about NYC and what to do. He and his wife are finally going up north. I told him no problem. He then looked at me and said that he did not want to be near any ghettos while on vacation. He said that he works all day in the bad neighborhoods around south Florida, and he does not want to do the same during his free time. I asked him why he must work in the ghettos of Florida and he said coldly because White people do not want to enter those neighborhoods. Who wants to worry about being shot at work? I grew up in a country where there weren't many crimes when I was a child thirty something years ago. This was because of sexism, you were seen as less of a man if you shot at an unarmed person. And the only time it was accepted that a man crossed the line in which he could lose his life was when he talked bad about his late mother or kids. We also didn't have drug problems becaudse we had the example of violence from alcoholism in the XIX century and again because of sexism being violent against a mother made you less of a man in the eyes of society Then The Left started preaching their narraitve about the poor being victims and they started shooting at people in order to steal believing that they were morally justified because it was society's fault that they were poor. I suspect that there was a similar promotion in the US as well and I'm pretty sure it started in the sixties when the political discusion shifted from trying to find solutions to problems along the way into trying to eliminate the system and no matter how well intended the second option may be it creates a vacuum in self esteem that ends up generating violence and with this lack of self esteem and stress from violence came drug addiction.

    It will be an absolute travesty when Thomas Sowell passes. He is the most brilliant mind of the last 100 years in social philosophy and history, able condense it to its simplest form of logic that anyone can grasp. I live in the city (Gastonia, NC) where Mr. Sowell is originally from. He is very revered and respected here by whites and blacks alike. Great video, guys.

    Yes you are 100% Right in the 1960s and 70s most Public schools gave basic training in the trades through Shop & automotive classes as an option for JR. High and High school students FOR FREE $$$$$$$

    • @conchobar
      @conchobar 11 днів тому

      Public schools moved away from teaching trades because guys like Sowell and his mentor Milton Friedman were pushing economic globalization, where manufacturering jobs would be exported out of the US. So by the 80s that became a realtiy. The market for tradesman dropped and so did its usefulness in public schools. People today only think trades are great career path because most other career paths in thr US have dried up. There really arent a ton of trades jobs available. In fact there are 2-3x more college graduates every year than there are trades job openings over 5 years.

      @@conchobarso your argument is that I should pay more for steel so that someone can have a job producing steel when their labor could be used more effectively doing something else?
      Global trade creates efficient outcomes and benefits both countries. Some will lose jobs, however others will gain employment.
      By that logic we should ban the import of bananas and grow them in green houses all across the USA. That would create jobs right?
      Or ban the import of oil.

    Being smart and educated is considered to be "soft" in black culture. In fact, black culture is infected by ignorance and machismo. It's sad to see. I'm a black kid in Germany. I visit my relatives in the US, and it's crazy to see how they are caught in a vicious circle. And YES, RAP is one of the major influences.

    Don’t think that schooling can fully educate a person. The government doesn’t want fully informed citizens, they want just smart enough that you can go to work and not cause too much of a fuss. It’s up to the individual to educate themselves, knowledge truly is power.

    Congrats on doing your own research and discovering the truth. As a white man in my 40s it seems to me (from a societal perspective) blacks blame others for their own issues; especially white men.
    As a white man, I’ve never done anything in my entire life to make things harder for others (including blacks) and I don’t look at race (really), but it seems blacks always talk about race.
    I just hope one day I can quit being blamed for others own choices and actions.

    • @DXT61
      @DXT61 Місяць тому

      I believe media and being bombarded with a one sided view contributes to this. It's a trap that all races but particularly blacks and whites here in America fall into. I am an LEO. When you are constantly seeing racist cops, defund the police and protest you began to believe the blacks as a whole hate you until you are in a store and one walks up thanking you for your service.
      You then realize there is so much more you don't see and the social media is not a true representation as a whole of those views. People form their opinions on what they see,hear the most and it's easy to take that view as opposed to doing your own research to learn the truth.

    Growing up as a poor white I totally agree with sowell, I was stationed in SC and when I got out I was engaged to a woman from Trinidad, she was going to college to be a teacher at an all black college, and most of those people there felt like people from the rural areas I grew up in, the similarities actually shocked me.
    It's also not just the black community that has had trades removed, working class whites are basically shamed if they get into a trade, as if it's beneath them. Farms have been systematically eliminated over decades. Those taught young men all sorts of skills, taught the value of hard work, made a community self sustaining, gave options for homeless to work themselves back into some sort of financial foundation.
    In my state right now, becoming a plumber is almost a 4 year indentured service. You have to work for a company with a master plumber for 4 years, periodically going to an accredited place to get evaluated, and that is just for an apprentice. So basically an apprentice plumber has a 4 year degree of OJT.

    Good coverage. I wanted to mention that Sowell's "Black Rednecks . . ." was published in 2005 so almost 20 years ago. And Sowell is now 93 so the videos you are watching are quite old but still so valuable. I don't know when he made a last public appearance but worth checking out everything he has written, said and done. I think Sowell will eventually become highly revered by the black community if it is able to overcome some of the cultural issues discussed in this video. You two did great commenting on the videos.

    Good on you for tackling this subject matter. No matter how many eggshells a non Black person walks on to approach it, people usually label that person racist and more. But when it comes from a Black person, people of all colors and backgrounds are more willing to listen and not just react how they've been programmed to.
    One of the greatest and most relevant to our times quotes that I've found from Thomas Sowell is this one:
    “The problem isn't that Johnny can't read. The problem isn't even that Johnny can't think. The problem is that Johnny doesn't know what thinking is; he confuses it with feeling.”
    ― Thomas Sowell
    Especially with today, so many people have placed their feelings on a pedestal, as if they can't ever be wrong; and it is leading society as a whole down a very terrible path.
    Emotional intelligence as a subject matter has been misdirected into further treatment of feelings being untouchable by the people doing the misdirecting. We used to be taught in school context clues. Who, what, where, when, why, and how. Analysis of context clues in every given situation is introspection on it and allows a person to comprehensively understand a situation and also develop critical thinking skills so a person can tell when someone is lying to them by noticing discrepancies, and also better control their own reaction to a situation in a suitable manner. Additionally, part of actual emotional intelligence is being able to understand your own emotions, which go far beyond the basics of mad, sad, excited, etc. Lots of people young to old often say they feel a way but don't know how to say it. The key to overcoming that is having a larger vocabulary to be able to know words that properly convey how you feel. All these together allow a person to not only better express and control themselves, but to also not allow themselves to be manipulated by others. These are imperative for a person to develop well. Schools and society as a whole stopped teaching people how to think, but instead to just follow directions, which boils down to how to react; and with that a person can become easily manipulated and never even realize it.
    Then you combine that with how often ego driven people are today and you have a serious problem. Because it's easier to convince a person of a lie and fool them than it is for that person to accept being told that they have been fooled and lied to. And a large part of that is what drives people all over the world to keep on perpetuating and enabling things that are destroying us all.

    I've learned a sign of maturity is when you see past color and recognize the importance of culture. Culture transcends race , ethnicity, age, and where you were born. Culture is how you view the world. Which is why your "culture" can change over time. People that think their culture is tied to them forever still have a long way to go.

    When I was going to high school, we were able to take various craft courses, like; Wood Shop, Metal Shop, Auto Shop (where you worked on your own car), welding and Drafting. Mainly boys took those courses. For the girls there was Home Economics, Accounting, Bookkeeping, Clerical Sciences and Typing. These courses sound like they force the genders into specific course work, but the opposite is true. Girls took shop courses and boys took the clerical courses as well. These types of courses need to be brought back. Besides the regular complement of General Education courses, we had many many foreign language courses. We had the usual choices like Spanish and French, but also German, Russian, Chinese and Japanese too. All this in a public school. I cannot believe what is taught and what is not taught now. We were prepared for the world. We may not have had smart phones, computers or calculators. But we did have slide rules.

    The reason we do not hear the name Thomas Sowell in school is because he is a conservative . He started out as a raging leftist until he too saw the light that the democrats have not changed since the time of the klan , black codes and Jim Crow laws. You should also look into another great black man that we don't know about, he happened to be a great friend of Mr Sowell . The name is Walter E. Williams, R.I.P .
