Oh no! Look at all the saw dust! Now Ashley's going to have to vacuum the driveway again ;) Lol! Honestly, you two are doing a wonderful job. You give me such inspiration. I've seen so many people take what appears to be a simple job, and turn it into a convoluted, complicated task that the first thought is "I don't think I need it that bad." You tackle things in such a straight forward way, explaining as you go along, that I can see how easy and do-able certain projects are. I know you always say "This is just OUR way", and if it doesn't work (which is seldom), you tell us the particulars and how you fixed it. Y'all don't know just how helpful you are. Thank you for that.
If you have a senior citizen visit and use the front door, a handrail would be a blessing. We old folks with sore knees need a little something to hold onto when climbing even a few steps. Beautiful design.❤️
I love the stacked platforms instead of the zigzag style. Much cleaner look.👍🏼 Several folks mentioned your easy going way with Maverick and I so agree. It’s not just letting him “climb on dad” it’s what you’re NOT saying, “Stop, I’m working right now.”, “Can’t you see I’m busy with this?”, or, “Go play with Belle.” Kudos for teaching love and compassion by example. 😊❤️
I love that too! Whatever the parents do they are always happy to entertain the kids while they are doing it. It was so sweet when they were working on the roof and their little boy was sitting in a chair in the yard watching them and fell asleep! He is so adorable!
zanyzoo6767, we had a little what-not shop nearby when I was a child and they had a sign - Lovely to look at, lovely to hold, if you break it, consider it sold. 😊
They do look so awesome! When you & Ashley & Maverick are sitting on the steps at the end, notice how Maverick is sitting there with his arms resting on the other step. He’s so cute sitting there like a grown up!
This video was incredible. I loved the precious moments with the children, use of existing materials, well planned workmanship with creativity and style, and family values. You folks are among the Americans that make me proud of our country. ❤️
I love that you are always able to come up with a great idea for any project you do. It looks like you have a degree in interior design, architectural and construction. The lawn mower is a work horse 😂😂😂😂😂. Amazing ❤️❤️❤️❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love your stairs! So sensibly made and comfortable for anyone to use regardless of how big their feet are. Have you ever seen some really old buildings with steep, very shallow steps? Yikes, you have to practically go sideways. The beauty of your design, is that will never happen to anyone. Will you be painting or staining them? That textured paint is great for stairs or you can just mix a little sand into a can of exterior paint. A railing is such a good thing to have and it's surprising how much use you actually end up getting out of it - to prop up a piece of furniture as you're trying to get it in or out, little ones feel more secure with something to hold onto, same goes for older people, stops you from falling if you slip on rain or snow and so handy if you have an attack of dizziness, etc. I just love the way you and Ashley tackle projects with gentle cooperation and respect.
Great stairs. Doug, you're so intelligent. Our family enjoys watching your family work together. You've accomplished so much, and everything is quality work.
That might look good but in the winter time there might be an issue with the snow freezing the pipe hand rail unless your over hang is going to cover it.
If more people were creative and conscientious like you are, our resources would not be so terribly taxed. You are so...I can’t think of the best word to describe you. 🤗❤️
I literally paused the video and made steps for my barn entry LOL Thank you for the motivation. Not having the finances to buy new wood isn't going to stop me from improving the things I can around our new homestead. Thanks for reminding me to think outside the box.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how you say, " I'm just going to look around and use materials that we already have" !!! So doggone smart! You think things thru then try it out! If you want to change things up, you guys don't worry and stress, you learn, you adapt and go for it. So, so, smart! And a big thank you for showing exactly how you built your back steps. They are beautiful
Right before you said pipe I was thinking a pipe railing would look cool! The steps look really good and so nice that you could reuse some of your wood. Maverick made me smile when he climbed on your back. I used to plant my flower beds with my little boy on my back like that. He's 43 now. Brings back good memories. :-)
I agree with Ashley, it's amazing Doug! We are renovating a Mobile home & 1 1/2 of a doublewide & joining them togather. I am short 5'2" probably about Asley's height.. Only got a few years on her 64. And climbing in & out of the renovation with make shift steps that are still to short, gets old pretty quick. I'm showing my Hubby this, in Hope's he may get the idea, he's taller & it's not so hard on him, but so far he mostly works on the outside, so it probably won't change until he has to climb in & out.. lol I love these steps so much, I'm gonna try & get him to copy them. You are so intavative! A fan ♡
Love all your ideas and work. You and your wife are blessed too be able to work together and brain storm together on projects. So many can't. That how my husband and I were. Also love that you made the steps so deep. Alot of them aren't. I know with tall big footed men like my husband are it makes it so much easier using them. God bless
The fact that u don’t copy or use the common norm is probably why the majority of us have enjoyed this reno. Now the kids can get out on their own. Steps look great and r very functional. Great job.
Love that you use what is already there. The steps look great! I would cut off those boards that stick out the side. Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without. So sweet that your son got some Daddy snuggles while Dad was working. Please continue to be careful. A friend cut the ends off three of his fingers because he was working when too tired.
Wait...whaaat...Belle is as tall as Ashley now!! Just last year, the big reveal of her bedroom, Belle came up to Ashley's chin. You're growing too quickly, Belle! How beautiful, talented, and precious you are! Just like your mom! Steps and everything else Doug and Ashley do is amazing. Perfect couple! Maverick and Belle are both adorable.
Just a suggestion, use some of your wood from your trees. Make a beautiful hand rail design from your old trees off your land. That would be awesome! Love and Blessings from south Texas.
tune in next time for another episode of "hoarding wood pays off", lol! those steps turned out great! i am looking forward to the rails and overhead cover.
Yep again your original unique design is impressive! Claim it Doug ☑️ ! Wish you had some wrought iron for hand rail .. or even a wrought iron head board painted black, or white to use for handrail, but knowing you you'll come up with something unique that's cohesive within your design. 😁 Tested tried and true for the lawnmower huh?? 😉
Yeah, I'm not entirely sure what I want to do for that hand rail yet but I'll keep my eye out for something that will work. Yeah, that little mower is doing great for us.
I love how you and Ashley seem to let your children explore and don’t always tell them to stop or don’t do that. Love the steps! Solid as a rock! ~Tim~🙂
Great job. I started watching your channel when I hit a rough spot in my own DIY project. Ashley inspired my husband to help me out. Now we take breaks and watch your channel to get motivated. THANK YOU DOUG AND ASHLEY!!
You did an awesome job and yes a rail and over hang will be good for going up and down and the overhang for keeping you from getting wet going in and out. Awesome job indeed.
Love the steps, especially the large platform. No balancing on a top step to enter the house. Another great job well done, can't wait to see how you solve the railing problem. Your videos are never a disappointment!
Your new steps look awesome. I really like the way you save and repurpose. Maverick was was adorable loving on his daddy while he worked. Watching you and Ashley attaining your dreams for your family warms my heart.🥰
I can see by the effort it took to move them that those stairs aren't going anywhere! Nice and solid. Love the design. You can claim them as original since they are original to you! Great addition to the house. You seem to work so quickly. That must be rewarding to see such nice changes to the house after only a couple days work! Love the natural warmth and trust Maverick shows to both of you. So precious.
Looks great! One thing to consider - the moisture in the new wood will freeze and make it very slippery. My mother in law had a terrible fall because she didn’t realize there was a thin layer of ice on her new steps on a cold fall morning.
How very wonderful looking and accomplished, congratulations...loved how Maverick pitched in😃😂🤩🙏🏻 and Ashley pulled it around with lawn mower and helped you get it in place🥰😃🎉🤩🙏🏻
I found this video because I was watching your other video about chicken coops. I don't even have a need to build steps, but I watched this the whole way through because your content makes me unreasonably happy. All of this is so wholesome and made with quality.
Oh my goodness! At the beginning, I was thinking steps are steps, right? When I saw the finished product I was in awe. Wow, you outdid yourself. I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of them. Different (but not too), fit the look of your house, safe, sturdy, shallow step height and just plain GOOD looking. Blessings.
That looks so great! It’s really uplifting at the end of my day to watch another one of your beautiful projects come to fruition. So nice! I love your design and aesthetics.
Excellent design Doug. It seems the challenge of using reclaimed material only inspires you. You again added value and beauty to property. Atta boy!!!!!
2:20 - I see the supervisor showed up. Good thing you kept on working so you wouldn't get written up for slacking on the job. 🤣 It is so much fun seeing your kids being a part of all of this. When I grew up I was told by my parents to stay far away when ever they did any renovations.
Those steps are so nice! I loved watching your little boy crawling on your back while you worked. It's such a joy watching you and your wife working together!
Looks great! You always come up with such excellent idea's. This is different and I really like how it's turned out. Great job as always! Have a nice weekend and stay safe! Believe and Maverick are so cute! You are beautiful family! ❤
i like the platform with steps. I do have a suggestion . Since you get snow and ice You should put risers between your runner on the steps. if you or Ashley or even the kids move too quickly upon the steps you could slip between one of them and tear up an ankle or brake a leg. with the riser that would not happen. But it was a great idea and no one has one like it.
Yes, they look DIYfferent, and I like them. Great creative work as usual, Doug, as usual using materials you already had on hand. But it will be nice to see rails on the back steps. Happy Labor Day Weekend.
Maverick leaning back casually on his elbows at the end like he’s been working all day on this project 🤣 Great job as usual. That’s a unique style and goes well with the design of the house. I love that you guys never really go with a cookie cutter version of anything but you carefully plan each design and execute it beautifully to fit your style
I'd consider using that big chunk of deck/old porch you still have at the bottom of the back steps. Good distance from the house, yet nice for putting chairs for sitting out.
Just recently started watching. You both are a treasure! So inspired by what y'all do together. I hope you both know how talented you are and I hope that your UA-cam journey will get you far! A fan from Tennessee..
Steps turned out great. Neat idea. But my favorite part was when little man jumped on your back with those arms around Daddy's neck. Precious memories . Pray the Lord watches over this wonderful family and blesses them.
Excellent looking stairs, our stairs for our mobile home are 20+ years old and are in need of replacement and I like these you made and we are going to make them too:) They look clean and real modern and they get away from that common stair set up, thanks for sharing.
One more step done... I see what you did there, LOL.
When you found Ashley, you found a treasure. She's definitely made for you. Love the steps.
And he's made 4 her, I love watching their interactions. Also, their mini- message got to me. Beautiful family!!!
@@halfbreed4life62 AA@@@@
She must be as happy as a clam with how resourceful, able, and motivated he is to provide them with a quality lifestyle the best way he knows how.
Oh my word I loved it when he jumped on your back and hugged you around the neck he is so cute
Me too he is a great dad and super cute little boy
Oh no! Look at all the saw dust! Now Ashley's going to have to vacuum the driveway again ;) Lol! Honestly, you two are doing a wonderful job. You give me such inspiration. Yes, I love that about them also. The family seems so easy going and relaxed with the kids. The kids seem so well behaved. Great little family.
I love that too! Whatever the parents do they are always happy to entertain the kids while they are doing it. It was so sweet when they were working on the roof and their little boy was sitting in a chair in the yard watching them and fell asleep! He is so adorable!
Wow! Just Wow! Loving it! Can you imagine just how much value you have added to your home with all you have done?! Grammy sends BIG Hugs! XOXO
I'd be interesting to know the value.
@@diyfferent Oh Me too! Maybe you should get it appraised just to see! Id love to just know how much difference.. Bet its way in the Thousands!
Wooden steps, lovely to look at, lovely to behold............ but when its wet, you need something to hold!
Lol cool poem! and true!
zanyzoo6767, we had a little what-not shop nearby when I was a child and they had a sign - Lovely to look at, lovely to hold, if you break it, consider it sold. 😊

Love it! It's so cute when Maverick is climbing all over you when you are working and you don't seem to mind at all. lol
I'm always happy when he wants to be with me :)
Yes I thought that was adorable also
Love it this is a whole family project I just adore this channel
Daddy is so patient and loving, Maverick is learning life skills and carpentry and don't even know it...lol
That’s great! I was an impatient and scared father and would shoo my kids away. That was a mistake. Good on you!
I love your stairs! So sensibly made and comfortable for anyone to use regardless of how big their feet are. Have you ever seen some really old buildings with steep, very shallow steps? We don't want to paint them, but we may stain them.
You NEVER cease to amaze me! Wonderful job on the steps!
Great stairs. Doug, you're so intelligent. Our family enjoys watching your family work together. You've accomplished so much, and everything is quality work.
Beautiful as always! I vote for black pipes as handrails...solid and easy maintenance. Love your kids and the way you love them!
I'll definitely consider that.
Love that idea
Black pipes was my first thought too.
Your video are amazing, can't wait to see the one, God bless you and your family
That might look good but in the winter time there might be an issue with the snow freezing the pipe hand rail unless your over hang is going to cover it.

The House the Stairs the Furniture the Counters everything looks amazing... You all are an amazing compassionate family...
Btw I vote white with blue trim on your barn to match your home. the blue trim comes from your door.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how you say, " I'm just going to look around and use materials that we already have" !!! So doggone smart! You think things thru then try it out! The look of joy on your face when showing your kiddos your hard work is amazing. The steps turned out great!
Looks so nice! Belle had a growth spurt this summer. She looks taller than Ashley now!
Yeah, she's getting very tall!
I agree with Ashley, it's amazing Doug!

Another job I watched with my mouth open, lol. I am always so impressed with your carpentry skills and your ideas are so original. They look lovely 😁
This reno turned out amazing! You guys are so talented it’s inspiring. Will be using some of your ideas in my singlewide 🙌🏼
Kool idea. Ashley and the lawn mower. You got that girl.
Fantastic design and execution! Can’t wait to see what you have in mind for the awning/covering for the landings!
Thanks! That means a lot to us, really!
Love that you use what is already there. The steps look great! I would cut off those boards that stick out the side. Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without. I sent it to my husband and told him this is want I want him to make for our back yard. Thank you!!!
Those two porches are really nice. They look very clean and neatly done. Congratulations on this clever project !
All I could say is, WOW!
Wait...whaaat...Belle is as tall as Ashley now!! Just last year, the big reveal of her bedroom, Belle came up to Ashley's chin. You're growing too quickly, Belle! How beautiful, talented, and precious you are! Just like your mom!

Very nice. Visually appealing. 👏🏼👏🏼
Doug and Ashley and family you guys are amazing.... Such a loving hard-working family 🌞
I like it! Simple sleek and functional, good jobs guys.

The stairs compliment your house nicely! Great creative build! You never cease to amaze me with the creative stuff you think of. Amazing once again!

Love , love it !!! I’m saving this video for my husband to make for our shed in our backyard! I know you’ll becoming up with neat railings !!! ❤️
They BOTH turned out Very Nicely!👍
Thanks :)
Great job. I started watching your channel when I hit a rough spot in my own DIY project. Ashley inspired my husband to help me out. Now we take breaks and watch your channel to get motivated. THANK YOU DOUG AND ASHLEY!!
haha, cool. Thanks for watching
Will it drag it? Yeh. Sure? Don't know! Working together brings such great humorous moments!
:D
I love the steps!! What a diyfference they make! You are so clever!!
I Love the design! A step in the right direction.
Love everything you guys done to your beautiful home!
Another great design. Can’t wait to see your shelter design.
Love the steps. You are so gifted.
This is by far my favorite channel.
I could watch it all day.
wow, thank you so much :)
You did an awesome job and yes a rail and over hang will be good for going up and down and the overhang for keeping you from getting wet going in and out. Awesome job indeed.
You did an AMAZING job, as usual! The steps look great!
Carla Hubbard, yes they did turn out amazing. I love the look of them. They have a very roomy and sturdy look about them.
Pride looks different on everyone. Ashly looks very proud of her hubbys work.👏👏👏👏👏🥰
really liked the design
Love the steps, especially the large platform. No balancing on a top step to enter the house. Another great job well done, can't wait to see how you solve the railing problem. Your videos are never a disappointment!
The steps look really nice. So clean and sturdy looking. 👍
Your new steps look awesome. I really like the way you save and repurpose. Maverick was was adorable loving on his daddy while he worked. Watching you and Ashley attaining your dreams for your family warms my heart.🥰
your son is just the most adorable thing ever...
Thank you :)
Yes he is and I loved it when he got on Daddy’s back. So cute and that blond hair. ♥️♥️
I love that you are recycling old materials.
Looks great!
One thing to consider - the moisture in the new wood will freeze and make it very slippery. My mother in law had a terrible fall because she didn’t realize there was a thin layer of ice on her new steps on a cold fall morning.
Thanks for the warning.
Those stairs look great!!!!
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it :)
97 k! So close, I'm getting excited Love you guys!
Doug, those are some high test stairs and decks!! BRAVO BRAVO👍😎
Well done Doug on designing and creating functional steps which suit your purpose and cost very little.
Love ❤️ what you are doing!! That’s right, work with what you have.. I hate waste..Awesome job!!
Oh my goodness! At the beginning, I was thinking steps are steps, right? When I saw the finished product I was in awe. Wow, you outdid yourself. I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of them.
It looks good but I was hoping for bigger deck for back so that you guys can have some space to hangout in evening or do some bbq.
You two continue to amaze me ! Beautiful !
Awesome use of the old decking and totally rad steps! I enjoy your channel and I am always eager for another video. Thanks guys.
Love those back an front steps. Never seen any like that. Really modern an clean like you say. 👍
It never ends does it? Every time you finish a project it makes the house look even better.🐓
2:20 - I see the supervisor showed up. Good thing you kept on working so you wouldn't get written up for slacking on the job. 🤣
It is so much fun seeing your kids being a part of all of this. When I grew up I was told by my parents to stay far away when ever they did any renovations.
Super design, great execution - Well Done!
You two should be very proud of your 'new' house. You did an amazing job. Congratulations to the whole family.
I love the cantilevered design of the steps. You two are really inspirational. Thank you. 👍👍
Very nice. I like the blocks sticking out at the back. Gives it a bit of a modern look that suits the interior design
Those steps are so nice! I loved watching your little boy crawling on your back while you worked. It's such a joy watching you and your wife working together!
Great design. Love how you use materials, little waste. Not just steps, generous enough to sit and enjoy your place
Looks great! You always come up with such excellent idea's. This is different and I really like how it's turned out. Great job as always! Have a nice weekend and stay safe! Believe and Maverick are so cute! You are beautiful family! ❤
This whole project is AMAZING!! It doesn't even look like the same house. YOU are the new Bob Vila!!! CONGRATS ON ALL THE HARD WORK!!!!!
i like the platform with steps.
I love those. I'm going to make my hubby build a set of those to replace the old worn out steps at our back door.
Maverick leaning back casually on his elbows at the end like he’s been working all day on this project 🤣
Great job as usual.
This was one of the funnest projects to watch. Like the design better than other steps I have seen.
Thanks :)
