Despite being the 3rd eldest, and having mafia family support, zhang li is missing the a Major component needed to win. A mastery of nen, and understanding of a gaurdian spirit beast. This is something that has let fugestsu, and mariam still be in the game. And is letting benjamin and halkenberg to dominate. Just shows how much of a pivotal piece kurapika is in this war. Not Only for his power, but his intellect and nen mastery.
From what we see so far, Benjamin might get taken out soon, and if Zhang's description was correct, he might be even waiting for something like that to happen. He and Luzurus seems to try and stay to the side for as long as possible, so stronger than them will tire temselves by both taking out the weakest contestants and themselves. Which makes sense, really. After all, he's not strong enough to pose, let's say, Benjamin immanent threat, but his fraction is just strong enough to require too much effort to take out, when there are still many more princes with lesser fractions. And if Zhang's ability is appreciating in power in long run(Something that seems to work well with his overall style of doing things), then the longer everyone stays occupied with everyone else but him, the better. There seems to be a lot of "I'll grant boost for my people" abilities amongst princes, interesting

Knowing Togashi, Tseridnich's death might be one of the most anti climactic in the series. A woman lies thrice, his guardian spirit beasts destroys her, and they just happen to be a cursed child of Netero. Wouldn't that be a wild sequence of events

Any number of things can happen. It's Togashi. I just think it'd be hilarious if his own spirit beast activated the curse that killed him. Really punctuates his own hubris and overconfidence.
I feel like zhang li is a MONSTER long term player like one of the biggest threats at long term his weakness is short term considering the other princes are walking around with busted abilities and his guards dont know nen
The way his personality is described is clearly hinting at Taoism that describes harmony and avoiding extremes, taking the middle path and merging opposite ideas. Taoism also believes in spiritual immortality in the sense that the spirit joins the universe after death. My prediction is that his nen ability will have some sort of death trigger.

If we don’t know what those coins do at the end of the arc, and if Zhang-Li dies, I hope the coins stay and keep taking up in value. Zhang-Li might be a long-term planner, but Togashi certainty is one as well.
Zhang Lei became aware of the coins on the third day, while his guard found the first coin on the second day. If coins are generated daily, then there might be a second coin missing. Secondly, I think Zhang is only half right about his ability. The negative/positive symbols on his beast probably represent karma, given the Buddhist theming. It could be that allies investing their coins gain abilities proportional to the coins value, but at the cost of increasing his karmic debt and decreasing the prosperity of his future kingdom. Enemies could gain abilities, but at the cost of increasing his positive karma, which means he would be able to give his allies more aura to work with without dipping too far into the red. I'm convinced his ability will be some kind of balancing act.

Stonks, I'd wager. Despite the "Zhang Coin TO THE MOON" memes Togashi strikes me as someone who would enjoy long-term investment strategies. A good portion of the show is slow growth strats finding ways to deal with risk takers.

Zhang Lei is the HxH equivalent of Gus Fring. On a business front, he is both amicable and volatile depending on whether he feels there is respect and mutual interest. In politics he is prudent, he won’t take any unnecessary risks as he prefers to understand and have full view of his opponents next moves. He also takes care of his own as he’s a man of principle at his core. His principles go both ways however, he will look out for you if you’re useful and loyal, but you’ll be executed if you’re a snake or double agent. With that in mind, I definitely think the coins are portrayed to potentially have malicious aura because the coins don’t actually evolve over the course of time, they probably evolve based on crucial decisions or changes in attitude that Zhang Lei makes. As for the nen beast and whether you can cash in the coins physically… it seems like its possible given than Zhang Lei only wants a certain type of man around him, and only that type of loyalty and utility should be tangibly rewarded. As for how the coins act in the hands of his enemies, one can only assume that its effect might activate depending on Zhang Leis perception of the situation. I’m not sure😅

With the coin motif could also mean Zhang Li is double-faced and unpredictible like someone tossing a coin, right? Another thing to keep up is money itself doesn't have value, its real value has to do on how many trusts the value of a currency, so is likely his plan is to gain the trust of allies and subordinates to get power. Or that's what I think.

I think that Zhang Li has more chances that many believe to become king but it can only happen if the winner does not need to kill the other princes, he is one of the only one having good capabilities as a leader and not wanting to kill the others if not needed. I don't see Woble win but I see him survive, same for other small princes like Fugetsu. Hawkemberg was another option but he is becoming more radical.
I do feel that the currency we're talking about here is nen aura. It makes the most sense given the conditions. 10 units of aura (not neccesarily the same measurment as knuckle) but once you get to coins with 1000 aura, 10,000 aura... that sort of investment can give someone an almost limitless nen investment fund. Edit: Also... i just realized, the nen beast itself could easily end up being on a power level close to that of Nanika. Provide the right ammount of currency, get a wish in proportion to the value provided... That, does seem terrifying bit also fitting for it to be that broad in use. A wishing well if you would x).
I vibe with that idea, paying the cost of Nanika upfront and loaded onto you rather than someone else. It's the 'noble capitalist' nen beast, you get to choose the cost because you're paying first. Problem is, if someone else pays first and uses their 'money' to push you down... etc etc etc

That said, there is also the factor that if the coins do need to be inserted back into the nen beast, in many ways, Xang Lei would serve as adjudicator, in regards to who is allowed access. It is also ppssible that the coins themselves provide value to holders. (Like aura batteries as the other comment said) in which case the beast itself can have a different functionality. Perhaps like a stock market share buy-back. Feeding back power to the nen beast and it's master. Having multiplied their power from the requirement of "being in circulation". Which is a pretty strict one due to the lack of control of a free market. Hell it could even lead to nen and national currency becoming interchangeable currencies x)
I believe that Zang Lei’s Nen beast allows a person to gain or amplify their power by inserting coins into the beast. In one chapter it mentioned that its Conjurer type and Compound type. Hence instead of granting raw Nen strength, the ability would conjure an object that helps the user achieve their desired goal. The nature of the object would be influenced by the user’s thoughts at the moment the coin is inserted, or possibly even by a verbal statement of their desire. The higher the denomination of the coin, the stronger the object’s abilities or effects. Additionally, the power of the object can be enhanced by inserting more coins. However, the drawback is that with each coin inserted, the user develops more favorable thoughts toward the Third Prince, akin to a gradual brainwashing effect. For example, inserting one coin would result in a 1% increase in loyalty, 10 coins would lead to 10% loyalty, and inserting 100 coins (the maximum) would cause total devotion to the Prince. Another potential condition for activating this ability is that the user must be able to see the coin slot, which would only be visible to Nen users. His beast can't harm him but he can harm himself if he would be stupid enough to mess with dangerous things... One example is the Halkenburg promise of dying if he misses his arrow....
Hear me out. one of the princes connected to the underworld gets really scared near the end and doesnt want to die. finds out there is a guy that can take nen powers away from people even special ones. gives up all rights to powers. BOOM. Chrollo now has a nen beast in his book and he wins the war to become the new king.

It would not surprise me if the ability depended on loyalty in a different way, where those who are loyal to him will be rewarded, but Benjamin's soldier using his stolen coin would end up cursed. Go even harder with that coin motif.
I am thinking the coin might be rising in value by slowly eating at the nen of the holder as they expand it. which is why the coin held by a trained nen user increased in value faster than the coin held by Zhang Lei or his bodyguard. The idea would be to reward the people of Kakin proportionally to their talents and effort, as geniuses in any field start naturally exuding nen. Seems like something he would be interested in doing.

The nen beast's mouth reminds me of that Roman carving where you stick your hand in to prove your telling the truth (like in Roman Holiday), where the carving will supposedly bite your hand off if you lie If Benjamin's guard does put his coin back in, I suspect he'll get cursed for being sneaky and hiding a coin
The ritual pot had that mouth and some people believe is meant to bite people with no royal blood since the princes had to put their hands on it to enter the succession war

@@benboothroyd1523 Exactly, for starters one of the princes being Beyond's child was a leap starting from the premise that Beyond wouldn't back someone not related to him by blood which makes me think that Beyond might be the father of one of the queens, most likely Oito without her knowledge. On the other hand someone as proficient in nen as Beyond might actually be able to work around the condition by some sort of technicality, if that is the case then Tserriednich saying that he felt like the pot was going to bite him could be hinting at the fact that it should have bitten him.

I think the number goes up in proportion to the aura capacity of the holder. Like a nen battery you exchange for a construct of equivalent value to the coin inserted, but it skims some aura off the top to give back to zhang lei to make more coins for distribution or buff him somehow. Not sure what the second side of the coin/two faced personality would factor in; maybe it’d make a nen curse instead? But give more aura back to zhang lei as a cost
What if it really were like Knuckle's nen but slightly different, instead of collecting nen through getting hit, it collects it passively. Now the more nen that it passively absorbs in the environment, the more it increases in value?
I think it's more to do with karma depending on your disposition it might be harmful while those who've been given the coins as a reward or part of a deal might have positives responses
I think the coin thing is a special power that they can use in times of trouble, the coin can be transform in a special power to attack or transform to become a defense against an enemy.
I think the last point made is very good. If APR is about interest and restricting powers this nen ability should be about prosperity. The argument that any person based on their skills get a certain power like seeds been given to a farmer would make a lot of sense and make this ability not too close to Halkenburg. That would however believe that warriors such as kurapika fighting in the trenches would be given a nen ability to help them fight… which is exciting.
I think it gives you power multiplied by the number in the coin, however, given that he’s all about being both light and dark, maybe the downside of gaining the power is lower lifespan like say you gave the coin when it’s at 10 in amplify your nen by 10 but divide your life or subtract it by 10. I would do you think there’s a price considering the type of guy he is.
Oh dang I just realized the value of the return could vary in coordination with one of the Buddha/Bon type realms. For example if someone’s actions with his investment are too violent they may be condemned to always fight for him in the warring god realm. That may manifest in enhancement type abilities along side with a form of peripheral blindness that inhibits the subject’s reasoning.
Been loving the theory that this whole contest was actually set up by beyond. That the king himself is beyonds child. And that this whole contest is a way to nuture grow and harvest power to super charge beyond himself. Which leads me to belive the coin ability is simply that idea boiled down. He gives coins. For little aura. People charge them up and give them back netting him more aura then he gave away. All for when beyond absorbs it all

First, the prince said that the number of coins was ten, and he had seven coins, and he distributed three coins, but there were eight coins on the table drawn by Togashi. Second, they said that the monster takes out a coin every day, and yet they did not ask which coin was supposed to be missing because the number of coins they had did not equal the number of days of the journey until the eleventh day. Third, I checked the Hunterpedia and I think that the first coin that fell was on the second day, which was taken by Coventoba, while the first coin was taken by Zhang Li on the third day. This makes Zhang Li’s total coins only nine. I may be wrong, I do not know.

i mean most of them should be easy to use, and not cripple the bearer. the ones who have struggled with theirs are all children so i think this plays a part.
I think maybe they can get something just from holding the coin, but we know when they put it back in mouth, they probably get impressive abilities. I do not think Zhang Lei Hui Guo Rou will win, but i feel like once we learn what all his spirit beast does, we will get the feeling that he had one of most op abilities and if he had understood nen and had proper understanding of what his nen spirit beast does from the beginning, he would have won and ruled for as long as life supported.
renouncing the throne is a lovely idea; yet based off what the nen machine deep in the Black Whale 1, I doubt that can happen. Would be lovely to see that the machine can take the nen of a living person and just force them into a state of Zetsu the rest of their life, but I can't shake the feeling that death is the only possible outcome.

Why do I feel like the succession contest will end like ranking of the king (current king getting reincarnated in the last prince) but the last prince ends up being Beyond child.
The narrator text clearly states that someone who *possesses* the coin after fulfilling certain conditions will gain abilities. This is antithetical to returning the coin by putting it into the Spirit Beast's mouth, as then they would no longer possess it. The "compound type" with multiple abilities likely means that keeping the coin or returning the coin have different effects; given the symbolism and Zhang Lei's personality, probably very different or even opposite effects. Spending the coin could give power to Zhang Lei proportional to its number/strength, while keeping it could take power _from_ him and grant it to the holder; this ensures that he only gives coins to people he trusts, who will keep it and then return it, rather than hoarding it forever. Just because Coventoba is not aware of having gained an ability doesn't mean that it hasn't happened. It could be a passive ability or something that only appears when he tries to use his nen. The fact that Melody also has a coin, and she's about to embark on a very dangerous assassination mission, is definitely not a coincidence. The coin will most likely have an effect on her, for better or worse, at a critical moment. The increase in number from 1 to 10 has three possibilities. Either the increase is linear and it's expressed in binary notation (next coin will be 11); or it's exponential and increases by a factor of ten each time (next coin will be 100); or the change is arbitrary and based on unknown circumstances (next coin could be any number, perhaps even 0 or a negative).
@@shadow-faye that is because she didnt want to win, she wanted fuugetsu to survive. so it is still loyalty based imo, kacho is loyal to fuugetsu, so if she dies she helps her win. and fuugetsu only trusts kachou so she is the only one who can open the door. but other than that i think it isnt a hard and fast rule that all nen beasts have abilities that involve loyalty and trust. its a stretch that mariam's involves either, but i can see this theme of trust in most other abilities.

Hard to say what the payoff of the coins will be, but the fact they raise in value begs a question. What happens when the coin value gets too high? With what we’ve seen from knuckle’s ability I’d guess there’s a downside if the value gets too high and if we take the comparison further while knuckle’s ability is loan shark I’d have to say zhang’s ability is taxation.

The prince is very indecisive and judgemental. It might be a coin flip that activates the coin. The sound of the aura coming off the coin was also the sound of nen after death.
Weird question, I know, but do we know what happens if the surviving Prince CAN'T rule due to not even talking yet? I imagine a possible ending besides EVERYBODY DIES is one where an older Prince is up against Woble. If Woble wins somehow, does the Queen take over? And which one, since Woble can't really make any decision, let alone an unbiased one?
If I could think of one insurmountable problem on a national level, it's ensuring moral, lawful, & loyal subjects. But, if the very currency itself relied on citizens being "Good," Then you can ensure that good citizens always out-compete the lazy, wicked, or seditious. So, I think redeeming the coins will confer a certain amount of control over the subject.
Feels like the coins probably represent a debt, thinking maybe when someone holding them dies, something of theirs automatically gets transferred to Zhang Li to pay off the debt in a sense. On the other hand, what if it's actually an investment ability. Useless on it's own but by investing your coins into people, Zhang Li gets a payout through a certain condition. I'd like to imagine if you're given a surface level useless investment ability what you'd get back would have to be something as good as taking the coin holders nen abilities as payment
The beast is supposed to protect you and help you win the contest. I don’t think any of the princes have a technique that would activate once they become king. No reason to give me a beast if it’s not useful for the contest. I’m leaning more towards the beginning of the video where each coin is like a loan and one payed back you activate the conditions. Kind of like a bank unlocking more rewards for you as you invest more money with them.
I thought chrollo would kill Zhang li and take his spirit beast (if that's even possible) and basically supercharge what he did to hisoka a second time (but with like objects you know?) but now idk, I think Zhang li might be the last 3, wobble and tebepa might not even make it out of this batch, hence why we need a potentially "safer" prince especially after the letters
Zhang Li will be the new king, for multiple reason. .. 1. This is ark revolves on Beyonds Plan and Kaken Empires goal. 2. To conquer to dark continent you must have powerful soldier not only king which fit to Zhang Li ability which Beyond's goal. 3. Obviously Zhang Li is the perfect candidate for Beyond because Zhang Li is mediator (3rd Prince) 4. Kaken empire is to reign in the new world with loyal soldiers to make it possible.

Gonna guess it's a karma coin that increases based on merit and karma towards Zhang Lei. It builds through actions filling up like a charging using their aura. It's worth pointing out aura has qualities that can be discerned between hostile and beneficial. So if someone who had negative karma, built up towards Zhang Lei, inserts the coin it would probably kill them. Those who had positive karma built up would reward them with an ability favorable to their name affinity. I also suspect it helps people develop men slowly forcefully opening them up to men so it can extract aura and measure it to discern affinity to assign an appropriate ability. The negative karma will subtract from the positive. At the 50%(+50 and -50) threshold or neutrality it might do nothing or it could inflict an appropriate injury. This would be perfect for Zhang Lei. If they were to insert the coin now it's effects could only scale to the value. So the number is the current nen value investment it has built from consuming small amounts of aura. Lastly Zhang Lei will receive some of the positive aura that has been consumed over time by the coin. This is why it's useless for him to keep. It also explains the negative aura it has when it is being observed for the first time.
I was thinking that the coins are slowly absorbing the nen of the holders over time not enough to affect the holder. But enough that the coin can be cashed for a reward with the Nen as a price
I like Zwang Lei. He is perhabs the most relatable of all the princes and the mystery about his beasts ability intrigues me. Him and Halkenburg are prob. my favourite characters from this arc.
I think his ability is to invest them to people like he said and the more men they use the more the coin banks like say a certain amount of aura points and then once returned to zeng he gains the aura points
Its a double edged sword. On one hand its the spirit of a nen user to fight assured of their own victory given nen has special properties depending on the psychological state of the user. But to bet it all on an assured victory without all the facts. Its gambling with long odds at best.
Based on this video, Zhang Lei is like Two-Face with his personality like that of a coin flip with his Nen Beast being the Pokemon Gholdengo with the coin aesthetic
I think it’s really simple. Instead of him investing in others the coin represent an investment others have put into him. In other words he gives out these coins and the more you sacrifice or help push his cause your number increases. At the end of the war you are then given some amazing reward for your help.
zhang Lei's ability is probably similar to the one of Knuckle Bine, probably with some differences. It's something that powers up over time but we need to know the conditions
I think zhang lei nen beast hability is that he grants a wish based on the coin value and then the person that recieve it grants zhang lei a wish/favor back or is manipulated by the nen beast to help him
It's highly likely the Zhang's ability is that of compound interest. Thus compound type. When investing compound interest stacks up over time so I would assume it's best for someone to hoard the coins. Therefore the different abilities are probably based around general capitalism. One with many vs many with one
Furthermore - the more coins you hold will increase the speed they increase in value but there is a set time for one coin which scales as they collect. Also I believe that if someone was to remove coins from play by returning to the spirit the coins left in play will increase in value as there will be less stock but equal demand

If we don’t know what those coins do at the end of the arc, and if Zhang-Li dies, I hope the coins stay and keep taking up in value. Zhang-Li might be a long-term planner, but Togashi certainty is one as well.
Zhang Lei became aware of the coins on the third day, while his guard found the first coin on the second day. If coins are generated daily, then there might be a second coin missing.
Secondly, I think Zhang is only half right about his ability.
The negative/positive symbols on his beast probably represent karma, given the Buddhist theming. It could be that allies investing their coins gain abilities proportional to the coins value, but at the cost of increasing his karmic debt and decreasing the prosperity of his future kingdom. Enemies could gain abilities, but at the cost of increasing his positive karma, which means he would be able to give his allies more aura to work with without dipping too far into the red. I'm convinced his ability will be some kind of balancing act.

Zhang Lei is the HxH equivalent of Gus Fring.
On a business front, he is both amicable and volatile depending on whether he feels there is respect and mutual interest. In politics he is prudent, he won’t take any unnecessary risks as he prefers to understand and have full view of his opponents next moves. He also takes care of his own as he’s a man of principle at his core. His principles go both ways however, he will look out for you if you’re useful and loyal, but you’ll be executed if you’re a snake or double agent.
With that in mind, I definitely think the coins are portrayed to potentially have malicious aura because the coins don’t actually evolve over the course of time, they probably evolve based on crucial decisions or changes in attitude that Zhang Lei makes. As for the nen beast and whether you can cash in the coins physically… it seems like its possible given than Zhang Lei only wants a certain type of man around him, and only that type of loyalty and utility should be tangibly rewarded. As for how the coins act in the hands of his enemies, one can only assume that its effect might activate depending on Zhang Leis perception of the situation. I’m not sure😅

I think that Zhang Li has more chances that many believe to become king but it can only happen if the winner does not need to kill the other princes, he is one of the only one having good capabilities as a leader and not wanting to kill the others if not needed. I don't see Woble win but I see him survive, same for other small princes like Fugetsu. Hawkemberg was another option but he is becoming more radical.
I do feel that the currency we're talking about here is nen aura. It makes the most sense given the conditions. 10 units of aura (not neccesarily the same measurment as knuckle) but once you get to coins with 1000 aura, 10,000 aura... that sort of investment can give someone an almost limitless nen investment fund.
Edit: Also... i just realized, the nen beast itself could easily end up being on a power level close to that of Nanika. Provide the right ammount of currency, get a wish in proportion to the value provided... That, does seem terrifying bit also fitting for it to be that broad in use. A wishing well if you would x).

It is also ppssible that the coins themselves provide value to holders. (Like aura batteries as the other comment said) in which case the beast itself can have a different functionality. Perhaps like a stock market share buy-back. Feeding back power to the nen beast and it's master. Having multiplied their power from the requirement of "being in circulation". Which is a pretty strict one due to the lack of control of a free market.

I believe that Zang Lei’s Nen beast allows a person to gain or amplify their power by inserting coins into the beast. In one chapter it mentioned that its Conjurer type and Compound type. Hence instead of granting raw Nen strength, the ability would conjure an object that helps the user achieve their desired goal. The nature of the object would be influenced by the user’s thoughts at the moment the coin is inserted, or possibly even by a verbal statement of their desire. The higher the denomination of the coin, the stronger the object’s abilities or effects.
Additionally, the power of the object can be enhanced by inserting more coins. However, the drawback is that with each coin inserted, the user develops more favorable thoughts toward the Third Prince, akin to a gradual brainwashing effect. For example, inserting one coin would result in a 1% increase in loyalty, 10 coins would lead to 10% loyalty, and inserting 100 coins (the maximum) would cause total devotion to the Prince.
Another potential condition for activating this ability is that the user must be able to see the coin slot, which would only be visible to Nen users. This adds a layer of exclusivity, as only those with Nen could access the power, while unknowingly becoming Zang Lei’s supporters.

It would not surprise me if the ability depended on loyalty in a different way, where those who are loyal to him will be rewarded, but Benjamin's soldier using his stolen coin would end up cursed. Go even harder with that coin motif.
I am thinking the coin might be rising in value by slowly eating at the nen of the holder as they expand it. which is why the coin held by a trained nen user increased in value faster than the coin held by Zhang Lei or his bodyguard.
The idea would be to reward the people of Kakin proportionally to their talents and effort, as geniuses in any field start naturally exuding nen. Seems like something he would be interested in doing.

I think the number goes up in proportion to the aura capacity of the holder. Like a nen battery you exchange for a construct of equivalent value to the coin inserted, but it skims some aura off the top to give back to zhang lei to make more coins for distribution or buff him somehow. Not sure what the second side of the coin/two faced personality would factor in; maybe it’d make a nen curse instead? But give more aura back to zhang lei as a cost
What if it really were like Knuckle's nen but slightly different, instead of collecting nen through getting hit, it collects it passively. Now the more nen that it passively absorbs in the environment, the more it increases in value?

I think it gives you power multiplied by the number in the coin, however, given that he’s all about being both light and dark, maybe the downside of gaining the power is lower lifespan like say you gave the coin when it’s at 10 in amplify your nen by 10 but divide your life or subtract it by 10. I would do you think there’s a price considering the type of guy he is.
Oh dang I just realized the value of the return could vary in coordination with one of the Buddha/Bon type realms. For example if someone’s actions with his investment are too violent they may be condemned to always fight for him in the warring god realm. That may manifest in enhancement type abilities along side with a form of peripheral blindness that inhibits the subject’s reasoning.

Been loving the theory that this whole contest was actually set up by beyond. That the king himself is beyonds child. And that this whole contest is a way to nuture grow and harvest power to super charge beyond himself. Which leads me to belive the coin ability is simply that idea boiled down. He gives coins. For little aura. People charge them up and give them back netting him more aura then he gave away. All for when beyond absorbs it all
There are several things that make me confused. First, the prince said that the number of coins was ten, and he had seven coins, and he distributed three coins, but there were eight coins on the table drawn by Togashi. Second, they said that the monster takes out a coin every day, and yet they did not ask which coin was supposed to be missing because the number of coins they had did not equal the number of days of the journey until the eleventh day. Third, I checked the Hunterpedia and I think that the first coin that fell was on the second day, which was taken by Coventoba, while the first coin was taken by Zhang Li on the third day. This makes Zhang Li’s total coins only nine. I may be wrong, I do not know.

I think maybe they can get something just from holding the coin, but we know when they put it back in mouth, they probably get impressive abilities. I do not think Zhang Lei Hui Guo Rou will win, but i feel like once we learn what all his spirit beast does, we will get the feeling that he had one of most op abilities and if he had understood nen and had proper understanding of what his nen spirit beast does from the beginning, he would have won and ruled for as long as life supported.
renouncing the throne is a lovely idea; yet based off what the nen machine deep in the Black Whale 1, I doubt that can happen. Would be lovely to see that the machine can take the nen of a living person and just force them into a state of Zetsu the rest of their life, but I can't shake the feeling that death is the only possible outcome.
Maybe the coin theory can be applied to the Nen Beast as well? We just saw its front so far, with all the plus signs. There could be a "evil" backside, where you maybe have to put the coins.

The narrator text clearly states that someone who *possesses* the coin after fulfilling certain conditions will gain abilities. This is antithetical to returning the coin by putting it into the Spirit Beast's mouth, as then they would no longer possess it. The "compound type" with multiple abilities likely means that keeping the coin or returning the coin have different effects; given the symbolism and Zhang Lei's personality, probably very different or even opposite effects. Spending the coin could give power to Zhang Lei proportional to its number/strength, while keeping it could take power _from_ him and grant it to the holder; this ensures that he only gives coins to people he trusts, who will keep it and then return it, rather than hoarding it forever.
Just because Coventoba is not aware of having gained an ability doesn't mean that it hasn't happened. It could be a passive ability or something that only appears when he tries to use his nen. The fact that Melody also has a coin, and she's about to embark on a very dangerous assassination mission, is definitely not a coincidence. The coin will most likely have an effect on her, for better or worse, at a critical moment.
The increase in number from 1 to 10 has three possibilities. Either the increase is linear and it's expressed in binary notation (next coin will be 11); or it's exponential and increases by a factor of ten each time (next coin will be 100); or the change is arbitrary and based on unknown circumstances (next coin could be any number, perhaps even 0 or a negative).

@@shadow-faye that is because she didnt want to win, she wanted fuugetsu to survive. so it is still loyalty based imo, kacho is loyal to fuugetsu, so if she dies she helps her win. and fuugetsu only trusts kachou so she is the only one who can open the door. but other than that i think it isnt a hard and fast rule that all nen beasts have abilities that involve loyalty and trust. its a stretch that mariam's involves either, but i can see this theme of trust in most other abilities.

Hard to say what the payoff of the coins will be, but the fact they raise in value begs a question.

With what we’ve seen from knuckle’s ability I’d guess there’s a downside if the value gets too high and if we take the comparison further while knuckle’s ability is loan shark I’d have to say zhang’s ability is taxation.

The prince is very indecisive and judgemental. It might be a coin flip that activates the coin. The sound of the aura coming off the coin was also the sound of nen after death.

If I could think of one insurmountable problem on a national level, it's ensuring moral, lawful, & loyal subjects.
But, if the very currency itself relied on citizens being "Good," Then you can ensure that good citizens always out-compete the lazy, wicked, or seditious. So, I think redeeming the coins will confer a certain amount of control over the subject.
Feels like the coins probably represent a debt, thinking maybe when someone holding them dies, something of theirs automatically gets transferred to Zhang Li to pay off the debt in a sense. On the other hand, what if it's actually an investment ability. Useless on it's own but by investing your coins into people, Zhang Li gets a payout through a certain condition. I'd like to imagine if you're given a surface level useless investment ability what you'd get back would have to be something as good as taking the coin holders nen abilities as payment
The beast is supposed to protect you and help you win the contest. I don’t think any of the princes have a technique that would activate once they become king. No reason to give me a beast if it’s not useful for the contest. I’m leaning more towards the beginning of the video where each coin is like a loan and one payed back you activate the conditions. Kind of like a bank unlocking more rewards for you as you invest more money with them.
I thought chrollo would kill Zhang li and take his spirit beast (if that's even possible) and basically supercharge what he did to hisoka a second time (but with like objects you know?) but now idk, I think Zhang li might be the last 3, wobble and tebepa might not even make it out of this batch, hence why we need a potentially "safer" prince especially after the letters

2. To conquer to dark continent you must have powerful soldier not only king which fit to Zhang Li ability which Beyond's goal.
3. Obviously Zhang Li is the perfect candidate for Beyond because Zhang Li is mediator (3rd Prince)
4. Kaken empire is to reign in the new world with loyal soldiers to make it possible.

Gonna guess it's a karma coin that increases based on merit and karma towards Zhang Lei. It builds through actions filling up like a charging using their aura. It's worth pointing out aura has qualities that can be discerned between hostile and beneficial. So if someone who had negative karma, built up towards Zhang Lei, inserts the coin it would probably kill them. Those who had positive karma built up would reward them with an ability favorable to their name affinity. I also suspect it helps people develop men slowly forcefully opening them up to men so it can extract aura and measure it to discern affinity to assign an appropriate ability. The negative karma will subtract from the positive. At the 50%(+50 and -50) threshold or neutrality it might do nothing or it could inflict an appropriate injury. This would be perfect for Zhang Lei. If they were to insert the coin now it's effects could only scale to the value. So the number is the current nen value investment it has built from consuming small amounts of aura. Lastly Zhang Lei will receive some of the positive aura that has been consumed over time by the coin. This is why it's useless for him to keep. It also explains the negative aura it has when it is being observed for the first time.
I was thinking that the coins are slowly absorbing the nen of the holders over time not enough to affect the holder. But enough that the coin can be cashed for a reward with the Nen as a price

I like Zwang Lei. He is perhabs the most relatable of all the princes and the mystery about his beasts ability intrigues me. Him and Halkenburg are prob. my favourite characters from this arc.
I think his ability is to invest them to people like he said and the more men they use the more the coin banks like say a certain amount of aura points and then once returned to zeng he gains the aura points
Its a double edged sword. On one hand its the spirit of a nen user to fight assured of their own victory given nen has special properties depending on the psychological state of the user. But to bet it all on an assured victory without all the facts. Its gambling with long odds at best.

I think it’s really simple. Instead of him investing in others the coin represent an investment others have put into him. In other words he gives out these coins and the more you sacrifice or help push his cause your number increases. At the end of the war you are then given some amazing reward for your help.

zhang Lei's ability is probably similar to the one of Knuckle Bine, probably with some differences. It's something that powers up over time but we need to know the conditions
I think zhang lei nen beast hability is that he grants a wish based on the coin value and then the person that recieve it grants zhang lei a wish/favor back or is manipulated by the nen beast to help him
It's highly likely the Zhang's ability is that of compound interest. Thus compound type. When investing compound interest stacks up over time so I would assume it's best for someone to hoard the coins. Therefore the different abilities are probably based around general capitalism. One with many vs many with one
Furthermore - the more coins you hold will increase the speed they increase in value but there is a set time for one coin which scales as they collect. Also I believe that if someone was to remove coins from play by returning to the spirit the coins left in play will increase in value as there will be less stock but equal demand
