The idea of implanting ideas in someones mind is the most intresting for me. My own theory is that his bankai uses hypnosis to change core traits in someones personality. For exemple: enhancing someones self preservation instinct and reducing their willpower, making then a coward. Or reducing their ability to feel empaty for their allies. And the reason for him not to use it is pride, on the surfice he wants his enemies to know he can outsmart or overpower them without nerfing them on such fundamental level, in his subconcious he dosent want to nerf someone who can match his power
What if Aizen's sword is like the reverse of Azashiro's sword? Its always in a released state but only in Shikai and his Bankai just enormously buffs his Shikai ability without giving him a Bankai state? Maybe his Shikai is just Hypnosis, but when he learned Bankai and connected with his sword spirit, his Shikai became complete hypnosis.
Ok so it would be dope if in the anime for the end fight with ichigo, aizen and the almighty.. they have aizen use his banki on the almighty which is the reason why he didn’t know he was fighting aizen in the last seconds and then explain what his banki is… that would be fire
I think his bankai is an "Infinite Tsukiyomi" illusionary dream world situation. Putting them into a comatose state but only while bankai is active. But it can only work on someone already under the effects of his shikai. But another weakness is that if he performs bankai it will free everyone from his shikai at the same time. Meaning he'll have to redo the shikai ritual after he dispels his bankai. Which would explain why he doesn't use bankai.

Also remember how they said White was hollow fused with seomone from Soul Society but at that time nobody was missing... and since it was prty strong I would say that reiatsu should've come from somewhere... there is no way he would made it from souls since u see from Gin pov that he use the souls soloely for his Hyogaku
I think what a lot of people miss is the fact that Kyoka Suigetsu, if you really look into, isn't especially powerful. Yes, controlling all of your opponent's senses is quite insane but if you think about it, Kyoka Suigetsu doesn't really harm you. It has no attacking potency whatsoever. All it gives is massive tactical advantage to its user. All this time when we see Aizen break the illusion only to reveal all of his victims sliced to pieces, it wasn't Kyoka Suigetsu. It was Aizen himself. All this monstrous power comes from Aizen, not his Zanpakuto. So, if we assume that Kyoka Suigetsu doesn't have any means to directly harm someone aside from just being used as a normal sword, its Bankai may also be focused on something that "doesn't harm" but gives its user some other form of advantage. That's why I don't think Aizen's Bankai can possibly be some reality bending uber powerful force, as many seem to imagine. We can already assume that whatever his Bankai can do it's still gonna be weaker than Hogyoku. This is my take on this great question among many about Bleach's world.
I think his Bankai is absolute truth, it would make sense because of the contrast between illusion and truth. It would also explain how he knew about the Soul king and how he had so much knowledge (even rivaling Urahara) even though he never led the science squad. I think that’s what helped me perfecting the Hogyoko. This is the only Bankai that makes sense to me

Kubo said the bankai is the souls ego...but Aizen already has a "god complex" and he didn't feel the need to.
Aizen doesn't even need to use bankai against Yhwach. Don't forget, aizen is only using like 30% of his power since they only unlocked a few of his seals and he's still ridiculously powerful.
Eh that worked with Kenpachi until he started fighting stronger opponents. It doesn’t make sense that Aizen wouldn’t have one early in his soul reaper days. It definitely doesn’t make him any more terrifying as KS and his aura alone is plenty but his Bankai must be so situational that he never needs to pull it out.
I dont think he actually has a bankai: When dangai ichigo fought hogyoku Aizen, ichigo describes aizen’s zanpakuto as “empty” and lonely - In order to achieve a zanpakuto, one must basically have a deep relationship with the zanpakuto (don’t make it weird). Based on the information, i can conclude that aizen doesn’t have a bankai since he basically just saw his zanpakuto as a tool and does not have bonding or relationship with it.

Reality manipulation has to be VERY limited, otherwise it would be like giving the visionary to someone with minimal knowledge of the world other than Gremmy.
It has to make sense as to why he wouldn’t use it. Think of the Vizards. Technically, if they stacked Bankai and their Hollow mask, they’d be more powerful. However, they don’t because it isn’t energy efficient and their Bankai are considerably stronger than their hollow mask. So with that said, if Aizen has a broken Shikai, has the hogyoku, and probably mastered kido and zanjutsu, and he DIDN’T use his Bankai (assuming he has one), why wouldn’t he choose to do it? Either there is some constraint to his Bankai, he doesn’t have one, or its power is weaker than his current arsenal.
It would be crazy if they change his fight with Yhwach and after he gets hit he goes "Oh you think I am Ichigo? Well well curious ability my bankai has huh?"
I personally hope he's similar to kenpachi and just never awakened his bankai. He's the pinnacle of shinigami in almost every aspect, but due to him being that strong he sees himself as above everyone/ everything. If hes above having an actual relationship with his zanpakto then he'd never awaken bankai.

An interesting idea I once had for Aizen's bankai was that it could be a more "supportive" ability rather than offensive. Maybe those under the effect of the shikai could gain some sort of boon when bankai is released, like a perception buff or even something as wild as short-term futuresight.
The shikhai is the ideal self or the percieved self, but the Bankai is the true self. It is fitting then that we never observe his true self. Although I'd argue that when he merges with his Zanpakuto he is being his most honest self.
I feel that because he merged with his zanpkatou, his current form is already beyond what his bankai would capable of. KS was different in TYBW, and it seemed like aizen was still testing what his powers are capable of when fighting Yhwach. Underwhelming as that could be, being able to manipulate essentially infinite timelines that Yhwach could observe is quite the feat.
I’m convinced that Aizen is always showing us his bankai. And that his shikai was the water vapor illusion ability that the other members of the gotei thought it was

My two theories, the cost of aizens bankai is that the hypnosis is released from everyone effected from his shikai, hence he does not use it as it would relinquish the control he has over their senses. The second theory is that he never achieved bankai because simply how does he force his shikai to submit when everything is an illusion. Imagine ichigo trying to fight zangwtsu (not technically zangetsu) except he cannot see or feel anything about their location. Impossible. I also like to imagine that the form aizens zanpakto takes is a moth woman who can verbally compete with him. but thats just for fun
He doesnt have to make his zanpakuto submit, just like ichigo realised in the end "the blade is me" they both submited to it while it submiting to them which caused their state of merging with their zanpakutos, they are the only 2 characters that have shown that trancending state of merging.
I've said it for years, but I've always held the belief is that Aizen's Bankai is the exact opposite of his Shikai, something that has no function at all in combat. Aizen is NOT a fair combatant, he doesn't need to have a fair fight unless he wants to. If his Bankai had any combative edge, he would have used it. In my opinion Aizen's Bankai is a mirror to his Shikai (haha, get it?) in which it reveals to Aizen the truth of the world. With his Shikai he produces lies to all of those around him. All of the senses he controls makes it nigh impossible for anyone to distinguish what the truth is. Aizen has always known everything, it seems. His knowledge of the Soul King only perpetuates that fact. If Aizen's Bankai showed him the truth of how the world was formed, it could explain the reason why Aizen decided to take the course of action he did in the series. So I suspect the idea of heightening his senses to an almost godly degree may hold some weight as well. It would also explain how he knew about Yhwach, and his approach in Muken. If anybody was going to have the ability to have a Bankai outside the norm, it would be Aizen.
16:34 for me it's very clear what happened here. Aizen was surprised because he didn't know how or even if his shikai would affect the almighty. His powers were activated because Yhwach looked at him in the present, so all the possible futures were affected by kyoka suigetsu. Aizen just didn't know what Yhwach was seeing, hence his surprise.
Ok so apologies for any typos, Aizens shikai: allows him to completely manipulate all 5 senses of anyone who sees his it at release, so what if his bankai is a contrast to that of Bankai: what if his bankai allows him to not manipulate but enhance the natural senses of all around him to the absolute maximum while only he himself is excluded. In a sense this would power scale him down to the absolute minimum erasing his presence entirely basically turning himself into and illusion and flooding everyone affected by the bankai with so much sensory information he does not even register as any sort of matter to those he share the ability of his bankai with I think this also works because it shares his zanpaktos power allowing it to quell its loneliness with those its power is shared with and in turn it leaves aizen completely powerless and alone until his bankai is recalled, Any thoughts? Unpopular Opinion: I actually think Aizen has used Kyoka Suigetsu to deceive everyone of a false Bankai. If you remember, when he first came out as a traitor, he and Isane & Unohana had a conversation about the true nature of his shikai. If he lied about his shikai, it's reasonable to think he lied about his bankai. I'm not saying he doesn't have one, because he's proven to be a shinigami of great caliber in every possible way. However, since he intended to eventually betray everyone, it only makes sense he would conceal his true abilities, especially his trump card. It is my hope that Kubo will create a situation for Aizen to use his bankai that wasn't in the original source material, like with Shinji. If not, then I would very much like to see it during the hell chapter.
shinji's bankai is mentioned in light novels but that is not in the case of aizen moreover he alreeady surpassed his soul reaper powers and is now a transcendental being i doubt he requires bankai to. Moreover i think kubo never got time to think about his bankai just like other characters like jushiro and isshin.

Maybe Aizen’s Bankai makes people see their worst fear. Considering how his Zanpaktou’s name also references a reflection, then maybe his Bankai is a different type of reflection. Instead of focusing on the moon in the water the person sees their own reflection in the water instead and what they fear most. This also makes sense with Yhwach mistaking him as Ichigo too.
it could be, once he uses his bankai, it releases the hypnosis on all affected and focuses itself inward. Making him what he wants the most to its limit. and maybe thats how he found out his shinigami limit and led him to hougyokou to urpass those limits.
My theory of Aizen's bankai is that Aizen's overloads his control of the 5 senses of his victim to essentially create a dream world that consists of only him and whoever is placed under his spell. In this world, Aizen basically can make whatever he desires happen since he is the god of this world and whatever happens in this world would be reflected on the actual victim's body. This is basically Gremmy's ability but can be stronger or weaken depends on how you see it. It is stronger because the world itself is under Aizen's control giving him greater control. For example, he can turn the whole place into space instead of just creating one tiny space portal like Gremmy did. It is weaker because it only affects one person and has several drawbacks. The first being that because of the sensory overload, using this bankai on someone will free them from the control of his shikai too and also make them immune to any future hypnosis, think Lelouch's geass from Code Geass for this one. The other weakness is that this basically takes place in a dream world and Aizen's and his opponent's actual body will be at a stand still, think Sasuke vs Itachi's genjutsu battle for this one, making them easy targets to be cut down by a third party. You can also add the weakness of someone touching Aizen will be able to break out of the bankai's effects which would be a callback to his shikai and also Tousen's bankai which can also be nullified in the same way. This explains why Aizen might be apprehensive of using it since most of his battles in the series were him fighting multiple enemies, and the only time he fought someone one on one was Ichigo who was not affected by his shikai which means he couldn't use it on Ichigo. This also fits Aizen's character since his god complex would be fulfilled here. He would also would be apprehensive of using it since Aizen likes to be in control and he would not want to risk someone being immune to his zanpakutou's effects unless absolutely necessary. Which brings me to when he can use it... I think his 1 vs 1 fight with Yhwach is the perfect chance to use it since they are essentially alone in the soul society if you don't count Kira and it can showcase the bankai's power and not kill Yhwach since Yhwach can place traps with his Almighty to break him out of it. Yhwach is also a strong enough opponent who will force Aizen to use his bankai regardless if he wants to.
Aizen's Bankai is probably something akin to Itachi from Naruto's Tsukuyomi, an illusion so realistic, powerful and traumatic that it can actually kill ("The mind makes it real").
I definitely like the theory the most of him gaining information over the Three Realms. It would make the most sense, both with him understanding what "ReiOh" is and also a suitable drawback considering the combat potential of Kyoka Suigetsu. It reminds me of Shinji's Bankai, both in power and with drawback, even though I feel like Shinji was the MOST unused during the source material lol

My own Zanpakuto concept that i basically copied from another series. Imagine Shiki Ryougi (Fate series) Mystic Eyes as a Zanpakuto. Shikai Release Command: "Death is the reversal of creation, as the dust returns to the earth and the breath of life returns to God." Aizen’s Bankia should be a more overpowered verision of his original power, but limited. Like he gains absolute control over target, but loses his illusion over everyone else.

If Aizen had a good bankai, he would either be using it all of the time (his shikai is his bankai in disguise) or he would have used it to get an edge over Yamamoto.

I'm mostly behind the theory of strengthening his senses to godly level Shikai representing his treacherous side while bankai being the truth seeker in this world, covering both sides of his character like in case of Shunsui or Soifon It also gives another glance at "all seeing" aspect of godlyhood While Yhwach sees and controls future Aizen's shikai is what controls what reality of the present seems to be for others while bankai extends the present visible to him
I believe his bankai will be more like bad trip hallucinogenic acid drugs. 100 times more hypnotic than shikai, which means the opponent will feel unmeasurable amount of terrible hallucinations, or worse like delirium/dissociative trip so technically his bankai ability will be like “psychotic break”. The opponent will have ptsd, paranoia, schizophrenia, and catatonic behavior after the effect. Something more nauseating than “infinite tsukuyomi” from Naruto
Given that his zanpakuto has “getsu” in its name, it should be similar to Ichigo’s Zangetsu. The idea that his bankai removes his hypnosis as a cost is interesting. His Bankai is most likely the unconscious perception thing that he used on Yhwach, but didn’t know what Yhwach saw.
I think it's because it would interfere with his plans. He was all about using people to his advantage and only really hypnotized those he needed to. No unnecessary risks or flashiness.
I hope in TYBW anime when Aizen fought Yhwach they put some extra surprise scene to Aizen Bankai revealed like they do to Senjumaru Bankai revealed. That was really peak fan service

I think it's simple. It acts like making a deal with Mephisto. It allows him to do whatever he wants with reality, but with drawbacks that the actual outcome might not mirror the thoughts 100%
6:03 i might wanna add a correction. aizen still very much is a transcendent being. its very much evident by given how he became twice as strong when he last fought dangai ichigo, his zanpakto being sealed within him, and him achieving immortality. They had to put alot of seals on the man to contain him bec he became that strong.
His bankai needs to be op but also needs weaknesses or a certain lvl of balance. My approach would be that he can drag his opponent into his inner world. Considering this is Aizen's domain he would have control over everything and he can team up with his Zanpakuto spirit. However, the more damage the inner world takes, the more debilitated he becomes. Another weakness is that since this is just a mental battle, Aizen will be exposed to harm from any external enemies that might interrupt which would make his bankai very situational.
Aizen's Bankai is like Shinji's or Soi Fon's. It's circumstantial and doesn't allow him to influence many with the reign that he has. And because he didn't use it against Yamamoto, it's potentially restrictive.
About being a captain and needing a bankai.. His shikai. He used it to trick everyone on seeing a bankai. Why don't people think about this? That's why everyone was already under its spell.
It’s either a severe limitation or more likely stubborn preference because it doesn’t suit his exterior aesthetics- if he didn’t activate during his humiliating defeat by Ichigo and Kisuke outwitting him, it must be a really big risk to use or something that would irreparably damage his self image if it’s exposed

I always thought that his bankai was an inverse of Gremmy. Instead of making aizens imagination real it makes his openers. I feel like the twist is just to perfect for his bankai. So giving the air and persona of his menacing power just increases the effect. And as a double twist if the person believes aizen stronger he becomes stronger. I thought this back when he revealed he was actually worried about a truly unleashed kenpachi. Kenpashis ego would be a game buster for him if he unleashed his bankai. So he always had to contain it . And he only fought people who’s egos outweighed their fear
I think his shikai and bankai work on different scales. Shikai is all targets, but just illusions. Bankai is single or limited target, but actually changes reality. It's just not necessary for the task at hand most times. Kinda like Sakanade.

My theory is based on the fact that we often forget that even the most powerful Zanpakuto are still at their core battle tools. My idea for Aizen's bankai is that when activated, all people who were affected by his shikai are drawn into a shared illusionary world. They are more than aware that they are in it but are unable to escape it. The bankai is Aizen's world of his own making, with him as its absolute ruler/god. The victims all see the same illusionary world and are affected by it, even to the point that the perception of time, injury, and even life and death are able to be changed. The goal of the bankai is to act as the ultimate illusory playground with Aizen as its master and inflict intense psychological damage or even just remain untouchable by enemies. Its weaknesses are few but important. If drawn in, the victims know it, which is contrary to what many of his goals and plans entail. It's a shared illusion, so everyone experiences the same thing, meaning there is less room to pinpoint or differentiate what one target experiences versus another. Basically, it's less subtle, which is not Aizen's style. To me that makes sense why he never mentioned using it or having it open as a threat. No need to use the lesser tool for my goals of higher power. Lastly, symbolically, the bankai lets him create an illusionary world with him as its ruler and god. Yet he knows it's fake. Great motivation for a character to pursue godlike power in reality if he can create a fake version of that against enemies.
As we know zanpakutou can backfire if user is not strong enough (toshirou). So here is plot twist - aizen is a regular shinigami that tried achieving bankai but kyouka suigetsu backfired at him and all we saw in series is his delusions as he is nothing more than a drooling madman xD
My money is on his bankai working like Shinji's (which would make perfect sense given the theme of that squad in TBTP). He probably has the ability to completely control one person to do his bidding temporarily which would leave him vulnerable to being attacked by other people around him since Suigetsu affects multiple people.
the entire series i was hoping his bankai was ywach and that during their fight at the end of the series, instead of fighting aizen just says "shatter" and ywach goes away, revealing it was all an elaborate illusion to convince kyoraku to free him from muken
Imo his Bankai makes the most sense to be body swapping as it fits for his character and makes 100% sense in narrative as to why his 2 main plans are what they are and why he *never* uses it which imo is the *most* important factor to consider when theorizing about it From a character study perspective it fits both his outward persona as a master manipulator by giving him direct control over his target and his internal loneliness pointed out by Ichigo of wanting someone to understand him by letting them literally be him It fits both his main story plots to create a perfect being like Ichigo and to create an Oken body, in both cases if he himself couldn't transcend with his own body he could swap into one of them even possibly the Soul King And what is the most common pop culture use of hypnosis? Making you behave as someone else It would also be extremely useful for his sneaking around and how he just never got caught for hundreds of years
My personal headcanon is that Aizen doesn't have a Bankai. It fits well with his character. Aizen never wanted to rely on others and I feel he would find it beneath him to commune with his zanpakuto, to the point of manifesting it. Aizen found his shikai was powerful enough that he didn't need a bankai, that and his immense spiritual pressure helped portray Aizen as having Bankai, when in reality he is just using his shikai to present a bankai
I wonder if Aizen Bankai is Perfect Self-Hypnosis, That's how he's so strong, Also maybe the reason why Hogyoku give up on Aizen during the battle with Ichigo, Maybe Hogyoku is able to see through the illusion of the Bankai and knows Aizen true desire, so Hogyoku Grants Aizen Wish to be Defeated
Aizen's lack of bankai usage is just as important to his character as his mysterious backstory. There needs to be proper backstory or character development if we're going to see him release bankai. Otherwise it'll feel like more of an obligated shoe-in.
In CFYOW, Tokinada (a shinigami with captain class strength and spiritual energy) is able to use KS and yet is severely limited by the amount of strain KS puts on his reiatsu just from using it in on a very small number of opponents. Now lets consider the fact that Aizen has proven capable of keeping countless victims across the realms trapped under the effects of the hypnosis ritual indefinitely for centuries. Now imagine what would happen if one effect of his bankai required him to suddenly release everyone from complete hypnosis he ever used it on (that's still alive). If a Zero Squad member could shake the realms just by activating bankai, then what do you suppose would happen if the man who's regarded as an SWP for his reiatsu alone (over all zero squad members even) activated his bankai and hypothetically regained the totality of all the reiatsu he was constantly expending just to keep everyone under KS's influence? Aizen probably knows full well that activating his bankai could cause a degree of collateral damage that even he would feel uncomfortable with. TL;DR - whatever Aizen's bankai's capable of probably isn't even half as scary or as consequential as what would happen to the balance of the realms if Aizen's bankai forced him to release everyone from KS's influence and freed up all that reiatsu at once. This would also explain why Urahara stated Aizen might've become even more powerful during TYBW than he was during the fight with Ichigo despite being trapped in Muken and unable to move. During the 1st Wandenreich invasion, how many shinigami under KS's influence do you think suddenly died and stopped burdening Aizen's reiatsu supply? And again, using KS on only a small number of beings is stated to be very draining even for captain class shinigami.
I always theorized his bankai impacts himself. He can convince himself of anything. Even his own intelligence. Making it manifest. Ultra ego basically.
It would help explain his blantant refusal to believe ichigos power and then to try and downplay/explain it as a trade off or a sacrifice. He basically lost his mind and denied reality.
I think your idea of his bankai turning illusion to reality holds merit. I remember you said that Aizen's bankai cannot be used on someone before they'd seen his shikai, and this could explain why: Aizen might first need to create the illusion in the mind of a target before materializing it.

The idea of implanting ideas in someones mind is the most intresting for me.
My own theory is that his bankai uses hypnosis to change core traits in someones personality. For exemple: enhancing someones self preservation instinct and reducing their willpower, making then a coward. Or reducing their ability to feel empaty for their allies. And the reason for him not to use it is pride, on the surfice he wants his enemies to know he can outsmart or overpower them without nerfing them on such fundamental level, in his subconcious he dosent want to nerf someone who can match his power
What if Aizen's sword is like the reverse of Azashiro's sword? Its always in a released state but only in Shikai and his Bankai just enormously buffs his Shikai ability without giving him a Bankai state? Maybe his Shikai is just Hypnosis, but when he learned Bankai and connected with his sword spirit, his Shikai became complete hypnosis.

I think his bankai is an "Infinite Tsukiyomi" illusionary dream world situation. Putting them into a comatose state but only while bankai is active. But it can only work on someone already under the effects of his shikai. But another weakness is that if he performs bankai it will free everyone from his shikai at the same time. Meaning he'll have to redo the shikai ritual after he dispels his bankai. Which would explain why he doesn't use bankai.

I think what a lot of people miss is the fact that Kyoka Suigetsu, if you really look into, isn't especially powerful. Yes, controlling all of your opponent's senses is quite insane but if you think about it, Kyoka Suigetsu doesn't really harm you. It has no attacking potency whatsoever. All it gives is massive tactical advantage to its user. All this time when we see Aizen break the illusion only to reveal all of his victims sliced to pieces, it wasn't Kyoka Suigetsu. It was Aizen himself. All this monstrous power comes from Aizen, not his Zanpakuto.
So, if we assume that Kyoka Suigetsu doesn't have any means to directly harm someone aside from just being used as a normal sword, its Bankai may also be focused on something that "doesn't harm" but gives its user some other form of advantage. That's why I don't think Aizen's Bankai can possibly be some reality bending uber powerful force, as many seem to imagine. We can already assume that whatever his Bankai can do it's still gonna be weaker than Hogyoku.

I think his Bankai is absolute truth, it would make sense because of the contrast between illusion and truth. It would also explain how he knew about the Soul king and how he had so much knowledge (even rivaling Urahara) even though he never led the science squad. I dont think he actually has a bankai: When dangai ichigo fought hogyoku Aizen, ichigo describes aizen’s zanpakuto as “empty” and lonely - In order to achieve a zanpakuto, one must basically have a deep relationship with the zanpakuto (don’t make it weird). Based on the information, i can conclude that aizen doesn’t have a bankai since he basically just saw his zanpakuto as a tool and does not have bonding or relationship with it.

Reality manipulation has to be VERY limited, otherwise it would be like giving the visionary to someone with minimal knowledge of the world other than Gremmy.
It has to make sense as to why he wouldn’t use it. Think of the Vizards. Technically, if they stacked Bankai and their Hollow mask, they’d be more powerful. However, they don’t because it isn’t energy efficient and their Bankai are considerably stronger than their hollow mask. So with that said, if Aizen has a broken Shikai, has the hogyoku, and probably mastered kido and zanjutsu, and he DIDN’T use his Bankai (assuming he has one), why wouldn’t he choose to do it? Either there is some constraint to his Bankai, he doesn’t have one, or its power is weaker than his current arsenal.
It would be crazy if they change his fight with Yhwach and after he gets hit he goes "Oh you think I am Ichigo? Well well curious ability my bankai has huh?"

I personally hope he's similar to kenpachi and just never awakened his bankai. He's the pinnacle of shinigami in almost every aspect, but due to him being that strong he sees himself as above everyone/ everything. If hes above having an actual relationship with his zanpakto then he'd never awaken bankai.

An interesting idea I once had for Aizen's bankai was that it could be a more "supportive" ability rather than offensive. Maybe those under the effect of the shikai could gain some sort of boon when bankai is released, like a perception buff or even something as wild as short-term futuresight.
The shikhai is the ideal self or the percieved self, but the Bankai is the true self. It is fitting then that we never observe his true self. Although I'd argue that when he merges with his Zanpakuto he is being his most honest self.
I feel that because he merged with his zanpkatou, his current form is already beyond what his bankai would capable of. KS was different in TYBW, and it seemed like aizen was still testing what his powers are capable of when fighting Yhwach. Underwhelming as that could be, being able to manipulate essentially infinite timelines that Yhwach could observe is quite the feat.
I’m convinced that Aizen is always showing us his bankai. And that his shikai was the water vapor illusion ability that the other members of the gotei thought it was

My two theories, the cost of aizens bankai is that the hypnosis is released from everyone effected from his shikai, hence he does not use it as it would relinquish the control he has over their senses. The second theory is that he never achieved bankai because simply how does he force his shikai to submit when everything is an illusion. Imagine ichigo trying to fight zangwtsu (not technically zangetsu) except he cannot see or feel anything about their location. Impossible. I also like to imagine that the form aizens zanpakto takes is a moth woman who can verbally compete with him. but thats just for fun
He doesnt have to make his zanpakuto submit, just like ichigo realised in the end "the blade is me" they both submited to it while it submiting to them which caused their state of merging with their zanpakutos, they are the only 2 characters that have shown that trancending state of merging.

I've said it for years, but I've always held the belief is that Aizen's Bankai is the exact opposite of his Shikai, something that has no function at all in combat. Aizen is NOT a fair combatant, he doesn't need to have a fair fight unless he wants to. If his Bankai had any combative edge, he would have used it. In my opinion Aizen's Bankai is a mirror to his Shikai (haha, get it?) in which it reveals to Aizen the truth of the world. With his Shikai he produces lies to all of those around him. All of the senses he controls makes it nigh impossible for anyone to distinguish what the truth is. Aizen has always known everything, it seems. His knowledge of the Soul King only perpetuates that fact. If Aizen's Bankai showed him the truth of how the world was formed, it could explain the reason why Aizen decided to take the course of action he did in the series. So I suspect the idea of heightening his senses to an almost godly degree may hold some weight as well. It would also explain how he knew about Yhwach, and his approach in Muken. If anybody was going to have the ability to have a Bankai outside the norm, it would be Aizen.
16:34 for me it's very clear what happened here. Aizen was surprised because he didn't know how or even if his shikai would affect the almighty. His powers were activated because Yhwach looked at him in the present, so all the possible futures were affected by kyoka suigetsu. Aizen just didn't know what Yhwach was seeing, hence his surprise.

Unpopular Opinion: I actually think Aizen has used Kyoka Suigetsu to deceive everyone of a false Bankai.
If you remember, when he first came out as a traitor, he and Isane & Unohana had a conversation about the true nature of his shikai. If he lied about his shikai, it's reasonable to think he lied about his bankai. I'm not saying he doesn't have one, because he's proven to be a shinigami of great caliber in every possible way. However, since he intended to eventually betray everyone, it only makes sense he would conceal his true abilities, especially his trump card.
It is my hope that Kubo will create a situation for Aizen to use his bankai that wasn't in the original source material, like with Shinji. If not, then I would very much like to see it during the hell chapter.
shinji's bankai is mentioned in light novels but that is not in the case of aizen moreover he alreeady surpassed his soul reaper powers and is now a transcendental being i doubt he requires bankai to. Moreover i think kubo never got time to think about his bankai just like other characters like jushiro and isshin.

Maybe Aizen’s Bankai makes people see their worst fear. Considering how his Zanpaktou’s name also references a reflection, then maybe his Bankai is a different type of reflection. Instead of focusing on the moon in the water the person sees their own reflection in the water instead and what they fear most. This also makes sense with Yhwach mistaking him as Ichigo too.

it could be, once he uses his bankai, it releases the hypnosis on all affected and focuses itself inward. Making him what he wants the most to its limit. and maybe thats how he found out his shinigami limit and led him to hougyokou to urpass those limits.
My theory of Aizen's bankai is that Aizen's overloads his control of the 5 senses of his victim to essentially create a dream world that consists of only him and whoever is placed under his spell. In this world, Aizen basically can make whatever he desires happen since he is the god of this world and whatever happens in this world would be reflected on the actual victim's body. This is basically Gremmy's ability but can be stronger or weaken depends on how you see it. It is stronger because the world itself is under Aizen's control giving him greater control. For example, he can turn the whole place into space instead of just creating one tiny space portal like Gremmy did. It is weaker because it only affects one person and has several drawbacks. The first being that because of the sensory overload, using this bankai on someone will free them from the control of his shikai too and also make them immune to any future hypnosis, think Lelouch's geass from Code Geass for this one. The other weakness is that this basically takes place in a dream world and Aizen's and his opponent's actual body will be at a stand still, think Sasuke vs Itachi's genjutsu battle for this one, making them easy targets to be cut down by a third party. You can also add the weakness of someone touching Aizen will be able to break out of the bankai's effects which would be a callback to his shikai and also Tousen's bankai which can also be nullified in the same way.
This explains why Aizen might be apprehensive of using it since most of his battles in the series were him fighting multiple enemies, and the only time he fought someone one on one was Ichigo who was not affected by his shikai which means he couldn't use it on Ichigo. This also fits Aizen's character since his god complex would be fulfilled here. He would also would be apprehensive of using it since Aizen likes to be in control and he would not want to risk someone being immune to his zanpakutou's effects unless absolutely necessary.
Which brings me to when he can use it... I think his 1 vs 1 fight with Yhwach is the perfect chance to use it since they are essentially alone in the soul society if you don't count Kira and it can showcase the bankai's power and not kill Yhwach since Yhwach can place traps with his Almighty to break him out of it. Yhwach is also a strong enough opponent who will force Aizen to use his bankai regardless if he wants to.
Aizen's Bankai is probably something akin to Itachi from Naruto's Tsukuyomi, an illusion so realistic, powerful and traumatic that it can actually kill ("The mind makes it real").
I definitely like the theory the most of him gaining information over the Three Realms. It would make the most sense, both with him understanding what "ReiOh" is and also a suitable drawback considering the combat potential of Kyoka Suigetsu. It reminds me of Shinji's Bankai, both in power and with drawback, even though I feel like Shinji was the MOST unused during the source material lol

I believe his bankai will be more like bad trip hallucinogenic acid drugs. 100 times more hypnotic than shikai, which means the opponent will feel unmeasurable amount of terrible hallucinations, or worse like delirium/dissociative trip so technically his bankai ability will be like “psychotic break”. The opponent will have ptsd, paranoia, schizophrenia, and catatonic behavior after the effect. Something more nauseating than “infinite tsukuyomi” from Naruto

I think the drawback of activating his bankai is that it would cleanse everyone he ever hypnotized from his shikai

6:03 i might wanna add a correction. aizen still very much is a transcendent being. its very much evident by given how he became twice as strong when he last fought dangai ichigo, his zanpakto being sealed within him, and him achieving immortality. They had to put alot of seals on the man to contain him bec he became that strong.
His bankai needs to be op but also needs weaknesses or a certain lvl of balance. My approach would be that he can drag his opponent into his inner world. Considering this is Aizen's domain he would have control over everything and he can team up with his Zanpakuto spirit. However, the more damage the inner world takes, the more debilitated he becomes. Another weakness is that since this is just a mental battle, Aizen will be exposed to harm from any external enemies that might interrupt which would make his bankai very situational.
Aizen's Bankai is like Shinji's or Soi Fon's. It's circumstantial and doesn't allow him to influence many with the reign that he has. And because he didn't use it against Yamamoto, it's potentially restrictive.

I always thought that his bankai was an inverse of Gremmy. Instead of making aizens imagination real it makes his openers. I feel like the twist is just to perfect for his bankai. So giving the air and persona of his menacing power just increases the effect. And as a double twist if the person believes aizen stronger he becomes stronger. I thought this back when he revealed he was actually worried about a truly unleashed kenpachi. Kenpashis ego would be a game buster for him if he unleashed his bankai. So he always had to contain it . And he only fought people who’s egos outweighed their fear

I think his shikai and bankai work on different scales.
Shikai is all targets, but just illusions. Bankai is single or limited target, but actually changes reality.
It's just not necessary for the task at hand most times.

My theory is based on the fact that we often forget that even the most powerful Zanpakuto are still at their core battle tools. My idea for Aizen's bankai is that when activated, all people who were affected by his shikai are drawn into a shared illusionary world. They are more than aware that they are in it but are unable to escape it. The bankai is Aizen's world of his own making, with him as its absolute ruler/god. The victims all see the same illusionary world and are affected by it, even to the point that the perception of time, injury, and even life and death are able to be changed. The goal of the bankai is to act as the ultimate illusory playground with Aizen as its master and inflict intense psychological damage or even just remain untouchable by enemies. Its weaknesses are few but important. If drawn in, the victims know it, which is contrary to what many of his goals and plans entail. It's a shared illusion, so everyone experiences the same thing, meaning there is less room to pinpoint or differentiate what one target experiences versus another. Basically, it's less subtle, which is not Aizen's style. To me that makes sense why he never mentioned using it or having it open as a threat. No need to use the lesser tool for my goals of higher power.
Lastly, symbolically, the bankai lets him create an illusionary world with him as its ruler and god. Yet he knows it's fake. Great motivation for a character to pursue godlike power in reality if he can create a fake version of that against enemies.
As we know zanpakutou can backfire if user is not strong enough (toshirou). So here is plot twist - aizen is a regular shinigami that tried achieving bankai but kyouka suigetsu backfired at him and all we saw in series is his delusions as he is nothing more than a drooling madman xD
His bankai will turn kubo into an anime character and will bring him in the soul society just to say " I've been watching you since your birth"

Aizen and Madara are so overpowered that Aizen never even reveals his Bankai, and Madara doesn't fully showcase his Sharingan's abilities.
My money is on his bankai working like Shinji's (which would make perfect sense given the theme of that squad in TBTP). He probably has the ability to completely control one person to do his bidding temporarily which would leave him vulnerable to being attacked by other people around him since Suigetsu affects multiple people.
the entire series i was hoping his bankai was ywach and that during their fight at the end of the series, instead of fighting aizen just says "shatter" and ywach goes away, revealing it was all an elaborate illusion to convince kyoraku to free him from muken
Imo his Bankai makes the most sense to be body swapping as it fits for his character and makes 100% sense in narrative as to why his 2 main plans are what they are and why he *never* uses it which imo is the *most* important factor to consider when theorizing about it
From a character study perspective it fits both his outward persona as a master manipulator by giving him direct control over his target and his internal loneliness pointed out by Ichigo of wanting someone to understand him by letting them literally be him
It fits both his main story plots to create a perfect being like Ichigo and to create an Oken body, in both cases if he himself couldn't transcend with his own body he could swap into one of them even possibly the Soul King

My personal headcanon is that Aizen doesn't have a Bankai. It fits well with his character. Aizen never wanted to rely on others and I feel he would find it beneath him to commune with his zanpakuto, to the point of manifesting it. Aizen found his shikai was powerful enough that he didn't need a bankai, that and his immense spiritual pressure helped portray Aizen as having Bankai, when in reality he is just using his shikai to present a bankai

im pretty sure aizen got into the gotei 13 via using kyoka suigetsu to make it look like he had his water-based bankai
Aizen's lack of bankai usage is just as important to his character as his mysterious backstory. There needs to be proper backstory or character development if we're going to see him release bankai. Otherwise it'll feel like more of an obligated shoe-in.
In CFYOW, Tokinada (a shinigami with captain class strength and spiritual energy) is able to use KS and yet is severely limited by the amount of strain KS puts on his reiatsu just from using it in on a very small number of opponents. Now lets consider the fact that Aizen has proven capable of keeping countless victims across the realms trapped under the effects of the hypnosis ritual indefinitely for centuries. Now imagine what would happen if one effect of his bankai required him to suddenly release everyone from complete hypnosis he ever used it on (that's still alive). If a Zero Squad member could shake the realms just by activating bankai, then what do you suppose would happen if the man who's regarded as an SWP for his reiatsu alone (over all zero squad members even) activated his bankai and hypothetically regained the totality of all the reiatsu he was constantly expending just to keep everyone under KS's influence? Aizen probably knows full well that activating his bankai could cause a degree of collateral damage that even he would feel uncomfortable with.
TL;DR - whatever Aizen's bankai's capable of probably isn't even half as scary or as consequential as what would happen to the balance of the realms if Aizen's bankai forced him to release everyone from KS's influence and freed up all that reiatsu at once.
This would also explain why Urahara stated Aizen might've become even more powerful during TYBW than he was during the fight with Ichigo despite being trapped in Muken and unable to move. During the 1st Wandenreich invasion, how many shinigami under KS's influence do you think suddenly died and stopped burdening Aizen's reiatsu supply? And again, using KS on only a small number of beings is stated to be very draining even for captain class shinigami.

It would help explain his blantant refusal to believe ichigos power and then to try and downplay/explain it as a trade off or a sacrifice.

I think your idea of his bankai turning illusion to reality holds merit. I remember you said that Aizen's bankai cannot be used on someone before they'd seen his shikai, and this could explain why: Aizen might first need to create the illusion in the mind of a target before materializing it.
