    The school the bad children should be sent to is homeschool. Let their parents be their teacher. The parents will not want that.

    I live near Dallas ISD and I doubt most of those parents would attend a parenting class...but it is a nice way for the school to shrug and say "Well we gave you every opportunity." Before sending a troubled child to an alternative school.

    My two cents: If your student has x number of infractions (detailed in the parent hand which parents must sign before their child is allowed in the building) by the end of 1st semester, they will be put in remote learning. If they wish to return to school, they must do x, y and z successfully for a minimum of 5 weeks (1/2 a semester). If they return but recommit the following infractions (list them), they will spend the remainder of the school year in remote learning. This should start in 5th or 6th grade. PARENT ACCOUNTABILITY.

      @@kathyshe2529 Bless you. T what I shared is what online schools are currently doing. Public schools are so afraid of lawsuits that they’re doing as little as they think possible in order to appease parents. It’s heartbreaking to be a part of it. Fingers crossed-I have a callback interview with a nonprofit on 7/12. If they hire me I can end my teaching career and still be helpful in a nonprofit.

    The sad truth that a lot of these "experts" don't want to accept is that for a lot of kids sent to Alternative, they've either been given MULTIPLE lesser punishments that have had no effect, or they have committed an illegal act that for which Alternative placement is the MILDER punishment option. In many of these cases, we just need these kids separated from the other kids who ARE trying to get an education (which they also have a right to), because all they do is disrupt and in some cases ENDANGER those kids.

    I had a parent come and sit in class to help motivate their student to do better. She was WORSE than her kid. I couldn't get a word in edgewise while she hugged all the kids she knew asked them about their relatives and told them all she was doing just fine even though she don't do no math at all.....smh. That child wasn't acting out they had no clue they were being raised with socially discouraged behaviors as their family norms. I changed my approach with the kid and invested in explaining they got to have spending money energy and making money energy and foster parent that with with a different set of values then what they got at home.

    • @RS-xs7vl
      @RS-xs7vl Місяць тому

      I’m not a teacher, but this resonates. I used to think, “What’s wrong with these kids today?” Then I became a manager for their working parents, and I said, “Never mind. Unfortunately, this makes perfect sense why your child is always in the principals’s office.” 🥺

    This trying to keep kids out of alternative school just keeps problems in the classroom lowering scores for the whole class. Send them bad boys ( and girls) to alternative school and make parents attend classes too before they can return to school.

    More than likely the student's behavior is a carbon copy of the parent(s) so that will already defeat the purpose. Having parents sit in a class for 3 hours is not an effective way to change the child's behavior especially since it has been their norm for years. This can't be fixed overnight, it's a process. Children are smart! After the class has been completed, they will go back to business as usual because there's really no accountability and consequence. Sadly, you can't make parents be parents. In some cases, they are afraid of their own children.

    I don’t understand why the parent can’t come to actual class and sit with their kids every day and discipline them themselves. If the parent can’t/ won’t then to alternative school you go. Or public school at home. Every state has that k-12 don’t they?

    • @christahall1647
      @christahall1647 2 місяці тому +2

      If the parents actually disciplined them themselves, they wouldn’t come to school and act the fool. Having a parent in the classroom distracts all the other children. The parent is constantly wanting to talk to the children and the teacher instead of observing their child. It’s counterproductive!

    Nah, yall are wrong for putting this all on the parents. These comments are full of assumptions too. There are parents who have “bad” kids and try to advocate for them, not to get away with stuff but to get the help they need. Parents would ask for years and the schools would ignore them then the parents would burn out and because the schools don’t care about helping the kids like they claim they do. Schools also stopped holding students accountable for their actions. I remember there used to be Saturday school, detention, in school suspension and home suspension for kids who misbehaved but now schools are more worried about a child’s feelings than their education. There are kids that come from good homes with good parents but act out because they are INFLUENCED by other kids and adults because there is a higher priority of being liked than being smart. Reverse that No Child Left Behind crap and start holding kids accountable for their actions and they will start getting their act together. The promise of having to repeat a grade will set them straight because no one wants to be “that kid”.
