He ain’t lying. They trained the NTA’s at my school how to restrain an aggressive student then they told the teaching staff that we are not legally permitted to restrain any student. Now mind you there are no NTA’s within the classroom so you have to be able to contact the NTA to come and help you. So the teaching staff amongst ourselves decided if you’re being choked or hit or having things thrown at you, you better defend yourself and worry about the write up later. JS
Don't quote me on this but I seem to remember from training that there are two scenarios where you can restrain a student physically: If they are putting themselves, or someone else (including you), in imminent physical danger of harm. The example given was you can grab a student to stop them from running into a street when you see a car coming that would likely hit the student. I have restrained students who were fighting on two occasions in my career (at different schools) and nobody told me I did anything wrong.
@@CStone-xn4oy well consider yourself blessed because they specifically and directly told the teaching staff that we could not restrain a student because parents could sue us and put our teaching certification in jeopardy. Under our jurisdiction NTA’s who received training and were certified from the training had the authority to restrain a student. So good luck to us.
@@madhatter1504 where I’m from the course or training is only offered to NTA staff only. because they have the lease to lose if sued. However a teacher will lose their ability to teach anywhere at a higher level if they lose their certification and they won’t receive a greater pay rate than a non certified teacher which school no longer want to hire because parents want teachers who have the highest level of skill that has been state tested and certified in that skill level for teachers.
Eddie B's CPI course: 1. Increase space between self and student. 2. Clarify the student's intentions ("Who you said you gone choke?") 3. Call for help preemptively. (Push the button). 4. Help the student re-evaluate their choices. 5. Remind the class of your expectations. (""Anybody else?")

This year they changed my training to CPI Verbal only. So I can just kindly explain why choking me is not a good idea 😖while being choked. I let my CPR card expire…..no one worth saving if I can’t save myself
Being a retired peace officer, I had a LOT of questions for this portion of CPI. The escape move only worked with the student's hands in a certain position. Move the hands a few inches and the tactic became useless. Don't let the student get that close in the first place.
Please think about me on January 26th when I will be Professionally developed in CPI ( Crisis Prevention Institute). I have said I work at high school, I am 56, 5'5 have a bad back and bad knees. By the time help arrives i would be seriously hurt. Now the talking part of the program i get. In that part we are supposed to talk the student down. Now all this takes place while the other students education is interrupted.
I laughed during the whole time of my training, talked to my class social worker, and then played spades on my phone...LMBO 😂😂😂😂 He is absolutely correct, I love his comedy AND school administration is a pure joke!
OMG! This is so true! I’ve been working with ED children for 37 yrs so I have had 37 trainings which by the way we are not allowed to use but they say they have to train us for legal reasons 😂
A student had me by the lariat and was punching me repeatedly in the face. One of my third grade students jumped on his back and so now Im on my back, getting choked and punched with two students on top of me. It took two male coworkers to get him off me but they still couldn’t get him to loosen his hold on my lariat and he head butted me once in the cheek bone and once in the forehead before they were able to put him in a hold.
