- As the first black woman to win an Emmy for comedy writing, for the heartbreaking and human “Thanksgiving” episode of “Master of None,” Lena Waithe stops by to talk about her new project, "The Chi." Produced entirely in its namesake city, "The Chi" is a timely coming-of-age story centering on a group of residents who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption. Executive produced by Waithe, Common and Elwood Reid, the series focuses on the human stories behind the sensationalized headlines surrounding the South Side of Chicago.

I'm very impressed with this woman! She's extremely smart, honest and very conscious about the plight of her characters. I've learned so much watching this interview. It feels like a lesson in writing and authentic characters building from a real black perspective. She's GENEROUS sharing knowledge.

I had the pleasure of watching all ten episodes of season one of the tv series, "the CHI"! I loved how the various characters connected to one another throughout the series! I look forward to viewing season two. I am a native Chicagoan, born and raised on the Westside of the North Lawndale Community! I recognized various areas within the tv series. I pray that this tv series will open peoples eyes to what has been affecting the many areas of Chicago.
