- Lena Waithe made history in September when she became the first African-American woman to win an Emmy for outstanding writing in a comedy series for the hit Netflix series, "Master of None." Now, she's the creator and executive producer of a new drama series called "The Chi," a coming-of-age story based in Chicago that follows a group of people linked by circumstance. Waithe joins "CBS This Morning" to discuss how her own background inspired the show, why she switched gears from comedy to drama, and what Oprah Winfrey's speech at Sunday's Golden Globes meant to her.

If you have common sense she shows a negative side to all Races that are shown on the show and it is a reality so just get over it and it's so sad that automatically black people go against black people if you don't agree with the show just don't agree but don't talk bad about the whole situation and down another black person no other race does that as much as we do!!!

As a black person that was raised and still resides in Chicago including on the Southside I take issue with Lena's perspective on black Chicago life in the shy series. It's full of negative stereotypes and it does not show the diversification of bike people that reside on the southside of Chicago. The whole thing is just one big ghetto Menagerie of stereotypes. Most black people in Chicago does not feel like this represents us and don't like the series so far. She and Common are selling racial stereotypes and playing off of what people think they know about black people in Chicago for sensationalism ratings and dollars. Common should be ashamed of himself as a Chicago group that grew up on the southside of Chicago !
Michael Riley - most of the black people have discussed the show with either don't know if its existence or they hate it. Also you can have an entertaining show about Black family life that isn't built around negative stereotypes. Have you ever seen the show Blackish on ABC. It's the only reality that black people from the south side of Chicago Avenue was this ghetto Babylon that you're promoting then television series Creator Shonda Rhimes could never have had the imagination to create such shows as Grey's Anatomy and two others all on ABC. If all there was to Southside black people was ghetto living in hard times Michelle Obama never would have become a top ranking Ivy league-educated attorney and the wife of the president of the United States. Typically people become what they see and live. Your argument is crap and I doubt that you are from Chicago's south side and black. According to you it's okay if black people decide to buck dance eat watermelon tap dance and sing Mammy just to get ratings !😕
The main character works as a chef and his girlfriend is a very successful real estate agent. Actually, the gangs and drugs arn't the focus. Of course, they are there and should be! I'm from the Austin area and think this show is amazing so far.
