As Christians, we believe that the fall, brought about by sin has caused a brokenness in EVERY aspect....from our physical bodies breaking down, our sense of identity, our sexuality...all of it is real. To acknowledge the reality of mental health, isn't making an excuse for behaviors, etc...if anything, my anxiety and adhd have caused me to cling to God, to depend greater on him. Really uninformed and unsesitive words from this man.
It's a combination of spiritual warfare and the natural. Yes, there can be a chemical imbalance somewhere. However, that warfare ain't no joke either. That's why we NEED Jesus and therapy to work through things!!!
Yes, there are mental health issues. I can agree with his take on ADHD though. My son was in elementary school when they were trying to diagnose him with ADHD, telling my wife about the medication route, and I told her no. I went to a meeting with a group of people involved, the principal, his teacher, psychologist, and some other people. Long story short, went on to middle school with no issues, no meds, high school, no issues, no meds, graduated EMT schooling with no issues, no meds. Now he's pursuing law enforcement..... Not to make it about race, but I worked at this military academy (k-12 school) as a drill instructor and so many little black boys were on medication, ADHD meds were top with an addition to other meds to help with side effect of other meds.
It's not talk about enough! Meds is not always the answer sometimes time and patience. They don't give these kids time to develop, even out. Lack of support and patience
Mental health doesn't have to be all or nothing there is a place for prayer, therapy and medication. I'm not sure why the church speaks, so poorly on receiving mental health help but never gives the same energy following the advice of their cardiologist.
Here is my issue, we think of things in modern terms. Historically, most people who deal with these problems become terrible humans. They take their pain out on others or themselves. Medicine helps prevent them from suffering or hurting others.
12:40 Amen!! More of us can relate than we tend to hear about. Thank you for your transparency and for allowing God to use you and your testimony. Thank you to ALL of you! To see black men sit around and hold space for one another and welcome vulnerability is a blessing. This helps to break the mental health stigma. I commend the work you all are doing.👑
Whoa! This channel coming up in my YT suggestion feed is truly a God send. It is truly a Blessing to see and hear from Black God-Fearing Men expounding on the infallible word of God in an honest, humble, and relatable way. If Church leaders delved into and touched on these topics a lot of people would grow in the faith. I don't agree with all of what J Mac said about mental health as I speak from experience that the Great Physician/Wonderful Counselor Jesus Christ is keeping me well by way of a physical Doctor and prescribed meds keeping me sane and functioning. Thanx for your candid and very helpful content Brothers. Stay Blessed!✝️👍🏾💙🙃
He’s always just half right in his opinion. There’s always something wrong with his logic. PTSD is not grief, it’s stuck in trauma. I was a victim of a violent crime, making hyper vigilant and fearful. Mental conditions exist before medicine with all these symptoms that are present…..the thing is our mind and body can come under spiritual attack. Read ‘Spiritual Roots of Disease’, mind blowing.
Ptsd he was talking about is grief his is example specifically was a soldier who came back and his finds died. Not the same thing you are talking about
Brutha's it is so refreshing, and such a blessing to see and hear black men talking about these issues, and glorifying GOD in your conversations! I recently discovered your channel, and I'm encouraged by what I see. Podcast, channels, like yours are definitely needed in our culture today! Young black men need to see this type of engagement on social media! LORD knows they see enough of the other garbage! LOL.. And I agree with you brutha's on the subject matter. Although I have learned much from Pastor MacArthur, and love his teaching ministry, have two of his study bibles etc., etc. I think he's wrong in this issue! One thing about J-Mac {as he's affectionately called my some!} LOL. is he at least leans toward fundamentalism. And they don't really ascribe to anything that's not what they deem "spiritual". Meaning, if it's considered "secular", "social", or anything of the like, they disregard it as sinful, man made, unbiblical, not worthy of their attention! That's a simple explanation, but I hope you get my point. That's why they disengage themselves from topics like racism, social justice, etc., etc. That's considered "social" stuff, so that's why they don't like to engage in those types of topics. {Of course when it comes to abortion, homosexuality, etc. it's a different story! Those are "social" issues too! But...... LOL..} I know I'm painting a broad brush, but that's generally the mindset of fundamentalist. Anyway, just wanted to encourage you brutha's to keep doin' what you're doin'. GOD is pleased, and people are being educated and encouraged! Much love fella's!
Thank you guys for touching on this topic. I was brought to tears over this because it is something I have struggles with as well. I think that sometimes we can miss the mark when it comes to the difference between our flesh and spiritual warfare. I think it's important to acknowledge our individual complexities and really seek Jesus throughout these challenges. I truly believe there is nothing too hard for God. He continues to show up. God bless you guys♥️
Hey gentlemen first thing wanted to say is praise the Lord for everything you all do and I agree with everything that was said one thing I might add to the situation with the doctors is that talk about chemical balance are not right and they prescribe medication but there is no such test to tell which chemical imbalance it like X-ray leg is fractured or bloodwork to tell what might be causing a person a problem But non kind of test to tell what wrong my youngest daughter went through a lot for years and she’s going to be 18 and talks about how the medicine didn’t help her and made it worse but like you all hit on ever single person is different and praying for all off you and for everyone!! God Bless
Mental Health is real, and spiritual warfare occupies the space of mental health. The cause of drug abuse, addictions, and the mishandling of these self-coping mechanism correlate with mental health. The act of improperly coping is ignited by the spiritual warfare by mishandling the diagnosis. Therapy is needed, medication if clinically approved is needed, and finding other healthier avenues to cope needs to be provided in the service of any mental/spiritual health patient.
If natural laws trumped spiritual laws and authority, then life definitely would not just be altogether spiritual. Nature is subject to spiritual influence. Elijah & David did not suffer from mental health issues in the way in which we describe it in our modern day, it was fear and doubt, the same way Jeremiah and Job curse the day they were born when trouble came their way. I myself have thought about not living when I am in trouble. I have learned to tell the difference between, experiencing negative thoughts and emotions as a result of an adverse situation vs experiencing pressure/warfare against your mind and emotions (even your body), two different things. When you are unable to overcome something in the natural you can be confident that it is definitely spiritual. You should be able to overcome anxiety, trauma, doubt, depression, behavioural issues, intrusive thoughts etc, the fail to overcome is evidence of warfare/curses. Failure to deal effectively with something spiritually (prayer and fasting) doesn't automatically make the situation something that can only be dealt with naturally. I (we) do not always know why some people do not get healed/delivered, but it happens and we trust God still and rest in Him. Paul, had a 'thorn in his side', he asked God to take it away and it didn't go away. I myself have something tormenting me, like a thorn, and for the life of me I can't understand why I can't get delivered, after I have tried everything. But here's the caveat, I know God is in control because of the peace I feel and the Joy in the midst of the pain.
I think the man said it is not real the same way h*m*sexu@lity is not re@l. (our pervertion gave life and meaning to these ideologies). I do not think he believes people are not experiencing some sort of real sickness. Just because the feelings are real it does not mean they are a reflection of the truth. I think what he means is that, for example, when I trip and fall and I cut myself, but my wound heals and I eventually have a scab, we know that is natural, thats how that nature law works. I will not medicate the scab and label it a sickness because I am not supposed to feel pain. When that scab is giving me pain I know that is not natural, because scabs are not supposed to hurt. (When you are dealing with torment and oppression, you are dealing with a spirit). Similarly, when I experience sadness, and trauma, and grief or anger, disappointment, rejection, and then this leads to PTSD and chronic depression and perpetual self deletion ideations, or behavioural issues, it should be clear to me that this is not natural. Because why am I not going through the scabbing process, instead I am labelling a curse/oppression as something natural. The feelings and the pressure (your fake reality) make it seem as though that is your true reality (what is happening in the spiritual). I believe them to be demonic facades, demonic smoke & mirrors. And so about self deletion, it is interesting that all the people in the bible who deleted themselves did not delete themselves in the same context in which the people in our modern day society are doing. These people where not mentally sick. Check it out for yourself. Guys remember Christ in the garden of Gethsemane, He experienced this pressure/warfare in His mind as well, the pressure was so tight that he experienced hematohidrosis, He said '...remove this cup away from me..', I believe this is the same pressure we experience as well when we feel like we do not want to live anymore because of circumstances. We ran to Him first when we experience this pressure the same way He went to the Father. Also the level in which you will experience success when engaging in any spiritual activity (be it you are righteous or diabolic ) depends on the intensity and commitment of the individual, we christians believe, but if it is going to embarrass us and requires deep focus we will not engage. There is a level of freedom we are supposed to walk in because of the cross when it comes to sickness and demonic oppression, we are supposed to heal the sick and cast out devils, but Christians are sick left right and centre and are in denial about being demonisation.
We have to first let the word wash over our minds. There is help needed for people who are struggling but we must keep all our work before the lord. I think the question is what are believers doing to help. Christian counseling correct medication no. Belive God is true and the world is a lie. Unless you are afraid of real conversation. The treatments are ineffective. Everyone need the body of Christ. Labels don't help it all comes from the devil. Remind the believer that the Lord is the one who brings peace that surpasses all understanding.
Just because something manifests physically doesn't mean it doesn't have a spiritual root. Think about what was going on with each person Jesus casted demons out of. Seizures, self-mutilation, even bad posture. So we should keep God on the throne as the all powerful one. I don't think he was saying the experience isn't real but the nicknames and titles we use can obscure the source of the darkness
Pastors arnt therapists, there not phycologists, they arnt scientists, nor are they sociologists. Respect the role of a pastor but I dont think we should take the words of these pastors with equal weight if they are not qualified to speak about sed position. You have people who study to get their Masters or doctorates in these fields and yet a theologian such as MacArthur can speak on issues such as social justice, and mental illness with such conviction and be found wanting.
Man go get you some help while you’re praying and trusting God. Don’t listen to no church folks. Let God tell you when to stop seeing a specialist. God almighty has his people everywhere.
Yall need to have Bizzle and Dee -1 on or better get Voddie Baucham. We battle not against the flesh and blood. The word cannot be partially true. Also he said greff is a real thing. Show me the words take.
I used to listen to this man and he has taught truths in the past. But who cares about a pastors opinion on mental health who believes that people are already destined for hell with no salvation available. That hardness of heart and cold spirituality is how slavery mentality was woven into European Christianity...Don't get me started on that brother. Love him but he strong and wrong
I use to love listening to John MacArthur. But he has become such a disappointment in the past 15 years. He believes everything he says is true and it's not. A lot of things he says are ridiculous, mean-spirited, out of touch and let's not forget absolutely racist!!!! He's filled with so much pride and won't let anyone challenge him. I just wish he wouldn't speak anymore bc his voice has just become irrelevant, at least to me.
Sorry but our definition of great are not aligned. This is not his only time saying some things that are just way off. The good thing is I'm not responsible for him, and he's not accountable to me. If you enjoy his pastoral ministry, then continue.
To Ju Don... There is no such thing as systemic racism in this country currently. In the past? Sure, with things such as slavery and after slavery Jim Crow laws. But not anymore. The anti woke acts coming out of republicans state. Laws that protect people who hurt protesters, take over of urban school districts in Texas. Anti DEI laws that are now being pushed. Anti affirmative action laws. Whenever a party makes a culture’s advancement a buggy man, then all they have to do is talk about that culture as if the problem comes from over there and a few laws make the base feel secure
What do you think? 👀

Mental health is real. One of the reasons I became a clinician is because I wanted the church and the culture to be more accepting of getting help.
I don't agree with the gentleman. PTSD is not grief. Is trauma. Mental ilnesses do exist. Evil also exists.
….this ☝🏾
Evil is what caused it and God heals that 🙏🏾

Him actually saying this is actually messed up in so many ways. Mental health is real, and I hope people speak up in pushback to this nonsense.

Jesus healed. Why can’t we?? He didn’t use meds or anything. Just prayer and faith 🙏🏾 Pray for all “mental health “ situations
The answer is never just pray on it...seek help if you need it
He might be going senile sadly😢
Unfortunately students who go to school to become a doctor aren’t taught any other methods besides medicine. Nutrition isn’t pushed
