  • Alain Prost, also known as "The Professor," is widely regarded as one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time. With four World Championship titles and 51 Grand Prix victories to his name, Prost's career spanned over a decade, from 1980 to 1993, and left a lasting impact on the sport.
Prost was born in Lorette, France, in 1955. He grew up in a family of mechanics and developed a passion for racing at an early age. Prost's talent was quickly recognized, and he was signed by the McLaren team in 1980, making his Formula One debut at the Argentine Grand Prix.
Prost's early career was marked by his close rivalry with fellow French driver René Arnoux. The two had several memorable battles on the track, including the 1982 French Grand Prix, where they famously crossed the finish line side-by-side. Prost came out on top, but the race cemented his reputation as a fierce competitor.
Prost's first World Championship came in 1985, driving for the McLaren team alongside teammate Niki Lauda. The season was dominated by the two drivers, with Prost winning five races and Lauda winning four. Prost ultimately won the title by just half a point, the closest margin in Formula One history.
Prost's success continued in the following years, with another World Championship in 1986 and a move to the Ferrari team in 1990. It was during his time at Ferrari that Prost became known for his strategic approach to racing, earning him the nickname "The Professor." Prost's ability to manage his tires and fuel consumption, combined with his skill on the track, made him a formidable opponent.
However, Prost's time at Ferrari was also marked by his rivalry with teammate Ayrton Senna. The two had several high-profile clashes on the track, including the controversial incident at the 1989 Japanese Grand Prix, where Senna collided with Prost to secure the World Championship. Prost left Ferrari after the incident and returned to McLaren for the 1993 season.
Prost's final World Championship came in 1993, in what would be his last season in Formula One. Despite being 38 years old, Prost was still competitive and won seven races that season, securing the title with two races to spare. Prost announced his retirement from the sport shortly after, ending his career on a high note.
Prost's success in Formula One was due in part to his exceptional skill as a driver, but also to his strategic approach to racing. He was known for his ability to analyze his opponents and develop a race strategy that would give him the best chance of success. Prost's attention to detail and dedication to his craft made him a feared opponent on the track.
In addition to his success as a driver, Prost also made a significant impact on the sport off the track. He was instrumental in the development of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association, which advocates for the safety and rights of Formula One drivers. Prost also served as a commentator for French television and was involved in several business ventures after his retirement.
Prost's legacy as one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time is undisputed. His skill, intelligence, and dedication to the sport have earned him a place in the pantheon of racing greats. As Formula One continues to evolve, Prost's impact on the sport will be felt for years to come.

I honestly don’t get why he’s never considered above Senna. He literally beat him in every way having more success than him having won with different teams even.

Although the numbers speak clearly, Prost is generally not considered superior to Senna because people are generally superficial and pay little attention to details.

In the world of senna fanboys, Prost is often portrayed as a “villain” of sorts. And he wasn’t as flashy as senna like the other guy said. People seem to forget that he won 4 world cups!!
