Many contractors, handymen and tradespeople in my country Australia are not generous with sharing knowledge, because they want to protect their turf and livelihood. You’re a breath of fresh air for people who like to DIY
I have done about a dozen kitchens and thought I knew at least 80% of stuff, but every time I watch your videos I learn a ton. My main facepalm in this video is that I have always been taking the 4 screws out of the hinges to remove the doors, now I know I just need to loosen the two screws. That alone will save me so much time. Thanks again for another awesome video.
I watch most of jeffs videos and he's by far and away the most knowledgeable and clever mentor for anything renovation diy on UA-cam. My fiance and I just bought an 1890 queen anne house and I already know I'll be listening to Jeff every day while I make some necessary repairs! Side note: if you live anywhere with a habitat for humanity re store, a lot of them have the same stuff he uses in various videos for a fraction of the price. For example, rigid core vinyl plank flooring (usually over 100 bucks per box) is 20 there.
I might sound like a broken record, but I will say it again all you video is clearly explained no loud music and distraction in the background, is why I could learn something from you
This video is downright amazing! This was so perfectly explained that, as a woman, I have the confidence to install my cabinets in the laundry room. The instructions are highly detailed and easy to follow. Thank you so much! I can't wait to watch more of your videos!!
Your info is heartfelt, Jeff, not just timely and practical. After two decades of being busy as a nomad on projects around the world where renovations were absent from my life, I have resettled in BC, bought a house and will begin again. Thanks for the memory refresh along with the tips which are going to save me lots of moolah!
So glad ive been a sub since around 200-300k. Every time i go to do something to my home i think "I'm sure Jeff has a video on that" and sure enough, there is.
Hi Jeff. I'm not really handy, but I sit here watching your videos with tons of admiration and respect. Thank you for all the great content; your knowledge and ability is truly impressive. Cheers from Huntington Beach, California.
I cannot tell you how excited I am to see this video!!! That’s literally what we are getting ready to do tomorrow! It’s like you read my mind …. Wtf Jeff, get outta my head, man!!!! 😜🙌🏼
this was by FAR chaulked full of the most helpful tips I've seen in a long time! Even stuff i didn't think i needed to know your dropped in the mix. HIGHLY recommend watching this video peeps!
I literally just had kitchen cabinets installed a few days ago and now I'm kicking myself over doing it myself,. Well at least I'm doing everything else that I've watched you do videos on!
I have been working on my trailer using your techniques. I am just about to close on a house built in 1883 that needs a lot of work but is just too good of a deal to pass up. These videos just became as valuable to the Nth power. That being said your help will likely get a much higher sale price for my trailer than I would have on my own. Thank you so much.
Thought I'd check out your video.someone asked me to fit 2 x cabinets in there kitchen, I didn't have clue how to. Watching your video, and your tips ect I feel I can take on the task. Thank you. Your videos are great and very informative.
I just installed my self-built cabinets a few weeks ago, so when I saw this video I was like "crap, I wish this had come out a month ago!" But then I watched and it turns out I did it exactly the way you did! Phew...
like I swear to God, Jeff makes construction a perfect world when he works with anything, even though none of it is close to being level or perfect to begin with
Came for the instruction. Stayed for the sass. 😂 👏 Great video, will be hanging my new RTA cabinets over the next few days. Drywall tips also appreciated
I love your videos, I also love that even if I think I know how to do these things that you are showing, there's always little tricks I can pick up that can make me that much more efficient in the future. Knowledge is power!
Watched quite a few of your videos. Very light hearted and very informative! Put into easy to understand terminology. FYI " Skin a cat" is actually referring to catfish.
just a tip for the knobs, putting it in the center of the 2 rails actually makes it look off center to the eye. you wanna cheat it up towards the center of the door. stick it on with a piece of tape or sticky tack and have a look before drilling so ur happy with the placement. try a few placements and compare.
at 25:00 i always use a ice-pick and make a "preedrill" in soft woods works perfect!!! ps: why iam return from vacations and watch a cabinets install?? hahahaha
I really enjoy and appreciate your videos and great advice - thank you so much! Your experience is evident and always very inspirational (even if a little intimidating, sometimes 😅) Best wishes from South Africa ❤🇿🇦
Great tip putting a piece of wood in the cabinet to balance into the other while your hanging the next.. And the clamp. Never seen this technique before. Handy!! 🤗

So many “a-ha!” moments in this video! Hand to Gawd, Jeff is the only UA-camr I trust when it comes to my DIY projects! Just a (48) year old lady who’s not that handy lol! 🤷🏻♀️ Good luck other DIY’ers! You got this!
This is great info. I installed kitchen cabinets at my last house and they came out fine cuz I knew what I was doing. Or so I thought. These tips would have made them that much better. Next time. Keep up the good work!
i have had great success mounting a single french cleat to the wall and then individuals on the back of the cabinets. If the cabinets are short enough I even sometimes join two on a cleat. Bit of care when attaching and they just go up level and you can push side to side to centre.
great video Jeff! I like the detail you have included. I am considering building and installing new cabinets in our kitchen and your video came out at just the time. Always great stuff, Thank you for posting!
You’re the best. I mean it. I’ve learned more about development from you than anyone else in my career and I’ve been in the trades 15 years now. The sad thing is, I have a feeling that the generation that taught your generation knew most of this as common knowledge. Now people are lucky to get a mentor that even cares to learn how to do things well themselves. Sad. I hope you’re doing really well for yourself.
I love your videos thank you. I have a more unusual kitchen cabinet issue. The guy I bought the cabinets from 2nd hand removed the hinges completely and the screws and now I can’t fit the fat screw into the metal bracket - any help gratefully received !
Regarding worrying about hitting electrical, if I have open walls I take pictures before it gets drywalled. Did this with my shower so I could hit studs with my Kerdi board . Also had a tape measure against the studs so I could see the measurements in the future . I know this may not typically be an option, but thought I’d mention it

My manager and I got curious recently about the phrase "there's more than 1 way to skin a cat", and we learned that they're referring to skinning a catfish, not a feline. Made me feel so much better about it, lol.
Thank you for this and all your videos. I go to your channel whenever i need to help with a diy project. What brand were the upper cabinets ? I have been researching cabinets for a kitchen/pantry remodel, they look well made. Thank you, Suzanne
That’s some real cool tips here. About those knobs… what about a routered groove in the bottom of the door? Then you don’t have to worry about centering anymore
When I install 3 cabinets above the sink i flip them upside down on a level floor and screw them together adding shims to create perfect gaps. Put my ledger board across the bottom of the longer cabinets. Screw it to the wall. That way no adjusting to wavy walls! Perfect everytime!
I learned you can double check a stud finder with a couple of magnets. You can get a general location with the finder and then find drywall screws/nails with the magnets. Been doing this since I was 15 and I rarely miss a stud 👌🏻
Got some of the "topper cabinets" that are 30x12 that usually go over the range for $5 each from my job (Lowe's) on clearance for my garage and installed them super quick. I have a green lazer level i got for $30 onal amazon from a youtuber who posts amazon tool deals with promo codes.. used that level for my height and my stud finder along with my magnet stud finder in conjunction to mark them.. I used a 3ft section of dog eared fence picket as a ledger and man it was a breeze.. I used a few washers on mine for my deck screws as i donr trust MDF to not just rip out . Gave me much needed space and looks pretty good. The nice thing with my lazer level is it has a vertical lazer also so once i found the studs I just positioned the level so the vertical line was inline with them and i still had my horizontal line which worked wonders..
Hi, first time, long time. I’m slowly remodeling our house and I love the videos you make. Especially the way you explain not only how to do it the right way, but why. In the event you take requests or ideas for videos, I have an idea, if you haven’t already done something like this. I have a kitchen pantry that is basically a narrow closet (24”w x 23”d x 96”h) with a narrower door (18”w x 80”h). I want to replace it with two side-by-side pull-out cabinets on tracks and a pull-down cabinet above and a drawer below for pet food. My current plan is to build the whole thing as one tall rectangular cabinet, remove the door and facade so there’s a rectangular void of the same dimensions, then just slide the cabinet into place and clean it up. Does that sound like a good plan?
TLDR: Always pre drill, (it prevents 14:34 where cabinets separate and surface damage) especially for important stuff like cabinets, different pre drilling and countersinks depending on screw type. For the "cabinet" or "pocket" screws with a flat washer head, you can pre drill with a forstner bit: flat bottom hole, and easier to conceal the screw. All you need is the thickness of the head, no more. For the regular countersink screws, pre drill with a countersink, makes them flush without damaging the substrate: We all know how fragile particle board especially melamine or laminate coated is.
Best location for fastening one cabinet to another is directly underneath the hinge mounting plates. If you use shelf location for concealing your screws, adjusting these shelves will expose those screws. Hinges are much more permanent.
I have used the scissor jack from the trunk of the car with some blocks of wood to assist in adjusting the height of the cabinet to level it on the wall.

Worth watching for the CA Patch technique.
Very informative as always,I've found when I was installing cabinets I used my reversible squeeze clamp to raise the far corners of the boxes. Cheers

I freaking love this channel. Thanks man!!
Great video. @6:52, 80 X 4 is 320, at least in the U.S.

I heard it’s actually a mark Twain quote, in response to the older saying “more than one way to kill a dog”
Thank you for this and all your videos. I go to your channel whenever i need to help with a diy project. What brand were the upper cabinets ?
I have been researching cabinets for a kitchen/pantry remodel, they look well made.

your have a point you just have to wash the door a lot more often.
When I install 3 cabinets above the sink i flip them upside down on a level floor and screw them together adding shims to create perfect gaps. Put my ledger board across the bottom of the longer cabinets. Screw it to the wall. That way no adjusting to wavy walls! Perfect everytime!
cool , im gonna do a bunch of units and i want to step up , thanks B
Thank you brother I got too much idea from you. Thanks a lot I appreciate God bless you. I live in Fremont. Thanks.

i love this man, thank you for your Teaching Spirit
Thanks for the great video! I live in a townhouse and we have steel studs with no backing! Any idea how I can screw cabinets to the wall?!! Thanks
Great Job 👍 thanks
dude you make amazing videos
Excellent video. Thank you!
Excellent Info ! Thank You
honest and educative video
great video buddy
❤ you're great teacher
Great tips! Thanks for this one!
You sir are a wealth of knowledge!
Gorgeous cabinets
Learned so much from this video.
Wonderful job
Best location for fastening one cabinet to another is directly underneath the hinge mounting plates. If you use shelf location for concealing your screws, adjusting these shelves will expose those screws. Hinges are much more permanent.
Excellent video 👍🏼, how much it’s the installation cost for those wall cabinets ?
I have used the scissor jack from the trunk of the car with some blocks of wood to assist in adjusting the height of the cabinet to level it on the wall.
That California patch blew my mind.
04:08 "I'm screwing blind." This here is meme gold here!
