- How to attach and install kitchen cabinets. It’s cabinet day on our project and we brought the video camera along to show you all of our tips and tricks when it comes to installing cabinetry. We have been installing the cabinetry on our own projects for decades now and can usually get an entire kitchen installed in one day. One of the main topics we cover is how to attach the face frames of the cabinets together in a perfectly tight joint without damaging the face frames. this video does not cover crown molding, that will be in a later video. A sidenote is that we did put in solid walking on the tops and bottoms of all the cabinetry behind the drywall. If you do not have this done you’ll have to use a stud finder to locate studs to attach the cabinetry to. We also cover some of the common opening sizes and dimensions for different appliances in your kitchen.

I'm installing cabinets in 2 days- you guys saved me from installing the base cabinets over floating floor- thank you!
Your comment about not putting the cabinets over a floating floor just saved me a lot of time and money. You’ve earned my sub.
4 guys with framing belts installing cabinets! Priceless!!!
How to make your guys install cabinets in their underwear so nothing gets scratched. Lol
framers have a soft side too ok?
Would rather see 4 guys with brad nailers and tack hammers try and build a house
@@mrsbradpittiful, well played! The "Negative Nancies" on this thread are mostly "finish carpenters" who wouldn't have a job/career if not for "framing carpenters". I wonder how many of them would know what to do if they had to install cabinets or trim in a room that is more than an eighth of an inch out of square, level or plumb? Not to mention how many even know the difference between those 3 descriptions!!!
@Nick Mackey or try and do a hard days work in the sun and/or rain or snow lifting heavy LVL beams or throwing trusses. The sooks might get a splinter. Stick to ironing on your laminate edging girls
I was in the cabinet business for about 20 years and I love the fact that special attention was paid to the blocking in the walls so that you do not have to hunt for a stud to make sure the cabinetry is secured to the wall properly. This way, no matter where you attach the cabinets, you are insured that the cabinetry is solidly installed to the walls and is permanently part of the house! Also saves a ton of time on installation. Thanks for your attention to detail!
Going back looking at old content on the channel shows how much more comfortable/better everyone has gotten on camera. I do like the specific topics as an alternative to the long series of following a whole house build but the long builds are still the best.
Eric, you are the freaking goat. I have been watching y’all for a while, but I have been trying to watch every episode. I don’t know if anyone has acknowledged that you build, film, edit, and get a slamming shot. I know this is an old video, but I am trying to watch them all.
It’s weird watching all of the new content and coming back to the old stuff and seeing all of Jamie’s fingers!!!!!!! through me for a loop
So Accurate 😂
Nice vid, thanks mate. Looks like its a new build, whereas I've been fitting kitchens for 30+ years mostly in old houses, nothing level / straight / square / vertical / flat. It is absolutely vital to take as much time as you need to mark out everything, calculate clearances, angles, spacing before you start. Then sequence the work, clearing out, preparation, first fit wiring, plumbing, fitting, finishing etc. The two things I like to hear at the end of a job are: 'How would you like paying?', and, 'You've done a brilliant job, thank you so much.'
Incredibly helpful. Especially appreciated the idea of blocking behind the drywall for catching screws.
I hang Cabinets all the time solo. Loose the tool belts. Also take a look into GRK cabinet screws. They are amazing.
Yep, you can easily scratch these prefab chinese cabs
Same, I always do mine solo.
Robert Watson 😂
I was going to mention the GRK trim screws as well. Great for attaching the face frames.
They used rough drywall screws on my cabinets. I got up and looked 👀
The reggae/island music makes the job enjoyable! My "go-to" station. Good video.
Bessey face frame clamps are great, and using "Level-ease" cabinet levelers have been a game changer...
Been following the new build project and just had an emotional reaction to seeing Jamie's hand pre-accident. But glad to see in later videos that he's still going.
Yeah man felt bad too
sorry to be off topic but does someone know a trick to log back into an instagram account?
I was stupid forgot the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Kelvin Kelvin instablaster ;)
@Terrell Dennis thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Terrell Dennis it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my account :D
You guys are a great team!
When I gang my cabinets together on top I use finish screws right where the door hinges go so that they are not visible to the homeowner. The finish screws have a much smaller head.
I also learned over the years don’t wear a tool belt when hanging cabinets.
Thanks for all the great tips!
This video really helped me prepare to put my kitchen cabinets in. Even the wrong sized cabinet door being used put it in my mind to check. THANKYOU! That said, why are people so bent on bashing people and their videos? If you already know how to put cabinets in.... why are you here? Go make your own video, and maybe I can learn a tip or trick from you as well!
From now on when the framers are done I'm putting blocking in for the cabinets before the drywall goes up. Also using a trick I saw in another one of your videos by screwing a 2x6 or 2x10 to the wall and marking it in place and then cutting instead of taking a hundred different measurements. Blocking is going to make it so much easier.
3rd hands and cabinet face clamps make installing cabinets alone no problem.
Yep I'm looking to get another 4 pack for a throw up paint booth.
Also like GRK Trim Head screws. They're a T10 bit and go well with my smaller M12 drivers.
Jaime would be happy to have just two hands...
Left out installing the greatest cabinet I’ve ever seen! A side cabinet next to the fridge panel! Amazing idea! Would of loved to see it go up.
the wiggle room for the fridge is an excellent idea BTW
Bessey makes a cabinet clamp (model # BES8511). It clamps the cabinets and also levels the face styles. They aren't as great as the old Pony cabinet clamps but they do the same job. All you need is 2 and it should only cost $40-50. Hang your first cabinet, these clamps will hold your second, and you can go down your run with one man leveling and screwing.
Tom Bowling love these. Can't say I use them too much anymore as I hang with doors on
1. That kitchen window over the sink should have had the window trim installed before the cabinets. Also the window frame & jamb should have been painted, stained or clear coated.
2. Cabinets should have had 1/2 plywood underneath so they were at the same level as the finished floor. Not a good idea to use floating flooring in a kitchen as water, spills will end up causing them to warp. Recommend using tile since its the most durable and not effected by water, or cleaning agents typically used in kitchens.
3. Probably a good idea to prime the subfloor when the sink & dishwasher is going to help protect the subfloor if there is a leak. Often leaks can occur for weeks before the homeowner (or renter) notices the leak.
So incredibly useful. Just learned about the brackets that connect the counter tops today at work. Thank you.
I build and install cabinets for a living, and I highly recommend spending the extra money on quick detach hinges. It saves so much time and most of them are high quality and last a long time.
Also, there is no need on other screws other than about 4 different sizes of drywalls, starting at 3/4 all the way up to 3 in
Frameless hinges?
I love that you highlighted the need to use the right size levels such as when going over the dishwasher gap. I was in the stone countertop business for some time. Granite level tolerance is an 1/8” over 10’. I can’t tell you how many times I’d measure for a countertop and the cabinets would be out 1/2” in 10’. Then I’d see the 2’ level and know exactly what happened.
Rainy day here and just drinking hot coffee and catching up on some older vids ... superior cabinet vid guys! Today: Friday August 27, 2021. 324k subscribers and 200,558 views.
This video is so helpful as I’ll be installing cabinets in my house in the coming weeks. Several tips you offered were things I never would’ve thought of. Thank you!!!
Get Pony Jorgensen cabinet clamps. They lock cabinets together and allow you to clamp the face flush. They also have pilot holes to pre drill to ensure you drill straight.
Great video with good info. I will echo the comment of grief screws and face frame clamps. I also lightly rub the screw on my nose. The oil in your skin acts as a lubricant that makes driving the screw after pre drilling even easier. Keep up the good work, I enjoy your videos.
You guys are true professionals and your attention to detail is evident in your work. I pray that my contractor has the same workmanship as your crew when I have my new home built! Keep the great videos coming please!
Nice Video. Always like your productions... very entertaining and situational true. One thing you guys need to have, especially if you install cabinets often, are face frame clamps. They are cheap and I believe Bessey manufactures very decent ones. In one clamping, they'll flush up the two face frames for no catch sits, they'll join them together and have the integrated straight holes for the drilling and the screws.
Just food for thought for the guys who do everything.
“It could be near impossible by yourself” thanks for the confidence boost 😂 I’ve worked alone for most of my career with some cabinet jacks and clamps 🤙🏻
Also with face frames there are certain clamps to use that will ensure a plum face %100 of the time, look up “face framed box clamp” on google to see what I’m talking about if you haven’t seen them before.
Use GRK cabinets screws
I wish people in my country had the same level of finish and commitment as you guys :( I do imagine you're labor is not cheap, but at this quality it's totally worth it
Solid blocking , I love it ! For both upper & bottoms. Great job Perkins ! 🤘🏼
Crazy seeing this. As a trim carpenter I was first taught to do kitchens on my lone some. Thinking it was impossible, my boss/teacher quickly showed me that wasn't the case if following proper procedure and using the right tools. To see 3 guys hanging one 18in upper is hilarious. Watching this I see why carpentry was split into 2 sub categories. Rough and Finished. Don't want your framers trimming ur house just as you wouldn't want your trimmer to frame. Great information though
It's a different world in heavy production markets. I need to install that kitchen in four hours by myself.
fancy I'm with you on that. We get one day per house. A few 7 hour days, a number pushing 14 on the big ones.
Nice job for install tips/tricks. Every one does it different....the quality of the end result is the key then it's about speed without compromising that. Nice looking kitchen. Hope all cabinet doors/drawers hung just for sake of video with trim schedule not complete let alone granite subs and floor mechanics still due😊 thx guys.
I have a small belt for cabinet installs. Just a small tape, knife, pencil, and a clip for drill if I need it. Big belts just get in the way.
Supposed to be writing my essay, but randomly stumbled onto your channel, and I've been binge-watching most of your videos all day :)
Love the in-depth content, makes me hopeful for when I eventually build my own house! Keep up the good work :)
Thanks I have this job waiting for me after I run electrical and hang drywall .
Cabinet claws work pretty slick for this job.
I always use a laser level. So much easier and more precise.
Most laser lines project a beam that is 3mm thick a pencil line is 1mm .So if it's accuracy your looking for then the level and pencil is more accurate.
Laser is way more accurate.....line is very easy to see in the middle of the beam. Also a laser allows you to check the entire floor for low spots so you can start on the opposite side of the room and end up exactly where you want. So many advantages with a laser, those are just a start.
@@ivor7407 I agree but you can ping laser round and check if the floor's running out before you do anything plus laser is quicker and when 3 men want wage's on a kitchen times is money
I LOVE the island cabinets
That’s why I have a separate finish belt that’s much less “clunky”. The hammer is what will ALWAYS get ya. Also! Those tiny Milwaukee impacts are really good for cabinets bc they don’t have the power to drive the into hard wood super easy. Making it impossible to screw anything without pre-drilled holes
I would also recommend GRK trim and cabinet screws, but keep the framing bags ON. Just like me. Great work guys.
you guys rule! J is a natural on camera
I like to drill the hole to secure the face frames between the hinge screw holes. The hole is hidden by the hinge.
These are construction geniuses.
You guys do awesome work! Love watching all of your videos and how you guys explain everything that you are doing and why! Look forward to future videos
GRK - "Headless" Trim and Cabinet screws are the only way to go!! WAY less work than trying to pre-drill for a deck screw!
Hi...I'm your guys biggest fan 👍👍👍👋👋
I love your channel and the work you guys do. I thought I share my opinion because feed back is good for all of us, if you guys want avoid damage to cabinets may you should wear different type of bags, front side finish bags. 👍
GRK cabinet screws to the studs and GRK trim screws for the face frame, those screws you use are huge
Thank you cutting off the shims on the bottom of the cabinet. I install floors for a living and hate to see those things left on there
I Use fastcap 3rd hands for cabinets now , just me in install ,- but a helper is a plus 👍
I learn a lot from watching you guys I must say. But For my islands I always screw my blocks directly to the island while it’s on-end then set it perfectly in place and screw up through the floor into the blocks from in the basement
That's grand if there's a basement.
Great stuff, nothing like laying in a kitchen with a framer in your belt, Let those cabinets see who's the boss!
Amazing work 🤙🏾
Very helpful Thank you for sharing
Stick Figure in the background!!! Love that band! Thanks for this video, perfect timing.
Good ear!
The French Guy what song is this?
Breath- stick figure best reggae band ever🤟🏽🤟🏽
@@cwest413 I think it was Breathe on the Burial Ground album.
Awesome idea about the wood backing during the framing process. Love this channel.
Beautiful work. Thank you for taking your time and sharing with everyone your library of knowledge.
Outstanding install and video coverage! Thanks guys!
When u have a bank of 2, 3 or 4 cabinets u can pre assemble them on the floor then slam them up. Looks like u have enough help to exactly that
I install cabinets alone 98% of the time and use Bessey Face Frame clamps to hold them to screw the face frames. I always lay out my base cabinets outline on floor so uppers will match to lowers.
You guys are like cabinet ninjas with those belts on
When possible screw the cabinet sections together on the floor and then raise them, it's easier, faster and you wont have to worry about any wall deflection.
I have special cabinet install clamps that line up the face automatically and also a place to drill the hole thru the clamp and it keeps your drill perfectly straight.
Good timing. The kitchen cabinets are going in any day now, on the house we're getting built. I got a few things I'm gonna look for!
I love your videos guys
There is so much good info in this video. Tons of pro tips. #protips
wish you guys would have included doing the ceiling. but good job so far!!
I do solo installation but is always good to have help
First time visiting your channel. Really enjoyed it, liked, and subscribed. Thank you. Awesome work!
That’s not too long man , good video guys 👌
Obviously you guys are doing well. Just a suggestion. Drop the bags (not the pants) and look into GRK screws...
Only time I use deck screws is when the cabinets come in a weird color.
Keep on kicking ass!
This is your guys best video yet
Thank you so much for detailing. I like to watch video that show details. You are super.
looks like Ray smashed the crap out of his thumb, or he paints his finger nails black LOL, another great video guys. thank you for sharing
I enjoyed this video. I really appreciate your and your team.
More, more, more of these installation, instruction, handy videos. I learned a lot. I will be making the cabinets as well. Will be a long traject and this helps with the design of the cabinets as well.
3 guys to install a cabinet,common guys
Thank you! Very educational and interesting.
Great attention to detail. Looking forward to part2
Great video, love the fast pace. Very helpful tips!
I agree 19 mins to fit a kitchen, I hope their not payed by the hour
This is insanity with the long Plank through the House to go. If the plece of Furniture not to uncover. By my. Not to possible. Your have good natured Woman! Jamie beginning the Wood Balcone to strengthen and a new Roof gable to Design. Interesting Video 👍😅
Excellent
Cabinets here are always screwed behind where the hinge goes.
That way when the doors on you don't see any fasteners.
That sounds like a great way to weaken the hinge
Use GRK #8 x 2-1/2" finish head screws for this. Reduced head is small enough to stand way from the hinge screws but still be covered under the hinge hardware.
Hey im not a contractor but i would note that maybe if you mark top and bottom with a stud finder using a pencil then snap a chalk line vertically before installing cabinets that when you go to mount and install screws you have an easy time getting strength , and i really dont know if thats necessary just saying maybe thats what i would do
Excellent review! Succinct tips and nice flow.
Excellent presentation... Not too long.
I love Jono’s nails. I’m always curious where you find a good black polish that lasts through working with your hands? Mine chips.
I think this is a great “pro tip” opportunity.
I do alone, myself. And I also use a Laser, WAY easier and accurate than levels
Laser lines are 3mm thick and a pencil line is a 1mm so the laser is not as accurate as a fine pencil line
Paul Keogh but I bet anyone who can draw a perfect line sir...
🤣🤣🤣 I didn't even recognize Ray without the beard.🤣
Nice job.....
Good video
Use composite shims, pine shims will sink
I’ve always ganged cabinets either behind the hinges(if they have doors) or behind the moulding just because it hides the screws much better. Also hanging cabinets by yourself isn’t hard if you use a deadman or make cleats if they don’t have them
I saw Tom Silva screw cabinets together behind the face frame.
Mmm hmmm! When fixing. Love it!
