OCAM Roof Rack Installation Guide - Drilling Method
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 вер 2017
- This method applies to vehicles which do not have factory mounting points and require drilling through the roof channel. E.g., Hilux, ML/MN Triton, Ranger, Navara, BT-50, D-Max, and others.
Some later models come with factory mounting points and do not require drilling. E.g., Triton MQ 2015+, RG Colorado 2012+, VW Amarok 2010+. For these vehicle, roof racks are available with specific bracket systems.

Great video. I thought they just clamped on. What a mission.
I love the step by step sharing of how you did it method, keep it up guys 👍
Thank you Ghazali. We appreciate your feedback!!
Bloody very good vid, would pay to add a link to this vid in your description in your product description on eBay! Because mounting my racks was something that was stopping me from deciding to buy them. After seeing this I’m much more confident with what needs to be done.
Thanks Meki. Appreciate your comment and glad we could help! Unfortunately, eBay doesn't permit live weblinks to other websites from their site. However, there should be a UA-cam image in the Item Description field where you can click and watch the video on UA-cam. Thanks again.
really good tips I really like your instructions!
Thank you Eman. We appreciate your feedback 😊!!
I watched for one thing and I end up watching the whole video really great video translation guide thanks
Big time thanks for this video. Took apart my inside the night before. Completed install and rebuild in about 2 hours. My wife watched with me because you look like Tom Hardy. Thanks again!!!!
Awesome Chris. Well done. Thanks for the positive feedback!!
Extremely good instructional video. Thanks
Cheers
Pro tip, wet your fingers in sliver before spreading the sikaflex, makes wiping it off your fingers really quick and easy
Well I have just learnt that I need this to be done to my new base cannon ute, bit of and over sight by the dealer not letting you know that you need to have holes drilled to put roof racks on.. What vehicle today doesn't have roof rack mounting as standard.. Plus great to see you add Sikaflex to seal the mounting brackets as this has been pointed out in many install vids about leaking issues as the rubber gaskets break down over time and will leak. I bought my roof flat rack from OCAM QLD great products.. Now I have to chat to the dealer about this over sight and dread the cost involved to have roof racks installed. Thankyou for sharing and great step by step installation video, never seen such a descriptive video as yours.. Great one Cheers
hi Tony, thank you for your positive feedback about the OCAM roof rack. We hope you enjoy it. Unfortunately, there are still various manufacturers not supplying factory roof rack mounting and you're right.. it creates extra work... In any case, we hope it goes well and if you need help installing it, please let us know. Wishing you all the best. If there is anything else we can help you with for your Cannon, please let us know. Cheers!
Do you have a link for Nissan navara D40 st x roof rack?
Do you do fitting around Sydney region?
And that my friends is why you pay someone who knows what they are doing.. That would do my head in 🤣🤣
Just wondering if they are waterproof after installation? Cheers mate great video.. will bring my old d22 to you when I pick her up.
Hey Dexter, yes waterproof. Sikaflex 227 does it. Good luck with your D22 and welcome, come and see us! Cheers
excelent
Thanks. Glad we could help!
Ok.. picked up a new SR5 on Thursday and looking to install a tradie basket. Do you know if it will affect warranty and would you recommend a galv or antirust sealant prior to sikaflex... or is it not needed for rust prevention? TIA
Hi Kylie, regarding warranty we don't expect its an issue. Though, best to confirm with the dealer if you have a concern. The feet that go in to the roof channel and steel rails are powder-coated and no additional rust protection is required. SIkaflex is to sure up no leaks after the drilling. Hope this helps. Please feel free to call our customer service team if we can assist. Regards, Peter
I bought these brackets but my roof cage mounting points are wider, is it just as strong if I were to flip the bracket so have the bracket mounting holes facing toward the outside of each side of the car?
Hi Rick, thanks for your message. Without a complete understanding of what you're attempting to do, it's difficult to advise. Please feel free to contact our customer service team to discuss on (03) 9357-0306. It should be strong enough. For our canopy roof racks, installation can vary dependent on the canopy size/shape etc and brackets are either installed mounting points inward or outward, without any issue. Regards,
Hi mate just ordered this rack for my 2012 hilux sr 4x4 dual cab. Will i need to remove airbags on my ute or will it be out of the way of the drilling location?
Hey Luke, you wont need to move the airbags, just work around them.
Are there suitable brackets for mounting lightbars & awnings to these racks? @OCAM
Hi Scott, yes. Some light bars will come with suitable brackets. For awnings, they usually come with L-shape mounting brackets, or you can drill through the sides of the uprights (in cage and tradesman racks) to mount.
@@OcamindustriesAu Excellent! Thanks for the reply. Looking forward to ordering one of your flat racks soon!!
Hey Habib if I were to buy the roof rack for D22 Navara 2013 model and some of those flares you guys sell, will you guys fit them? and if so how much to fit?
Hi Ataman, thanks for your enquiry. Flares installation is $75 per piece. If you have a bull bar, it'll be 4 pieces. Otherwise, 6. The roof rack install is $250 without side airbags, $350 if you have side airbags.
Excellent thank you my friend, I will arrange something in the next week or so due to the holidays. See you guys next year, have a Happy New Year.
OCAM.. how do you get the other side square to the first side complete ! ? Thanks
Hi James, one way to level it up easier is to loosely fit the rails to the underside of the roof rack first and then sit the assembly onto the mounting blocks. Please call us on (03) 9357-0306 and talk to one of our team if you require assistance.
Is drilling required on the Holden Colorado rg 2013? I have been advised the rack can be fitted on factory rails under the plastic strip
Hi KM, drilling is not required for RG Colorado. Underneath the black strip, you'll find mounting points. They're not the easiest to find, but check for M6 bolts holes, they'll have a thin cover over them you'll need to pierce through.
@@OcamindustriesAu thank you
@@OcamindustriesAu are there several M6 bolt holes along the rail or only in a set area. If they are set would you know the measurements so I can find them?
@@theboarhunter I'm not exactly sure how many there are under there, but they are spaced to the exact measurements as our roof rack mounting brackets.
Hey mate! Quick question... if i mount my brackets the same way you do and bolt the rail to the angled face, it leaves the top coming out completely out of level. (I dont understand how yours doesn't!) Mine only works if i bolt the rail on the inside of the bracket to the plumb face. Hope the makes sence... Am i missing somthing? Great vid though!!
Hey Louie, thanks for your message. You can loosely install the rails to the roof rack and lower the assembly together onto the feet. It should all pull in together. If you're still having any issues with this, please email some photos to our customer care team, hello@ocam.com.au and your order reference. Our team will be happy to help. Thanks
Any fitters in Cairns for this ?? Having trouble finding anyone to do it, thanks:)
Hi, we'll check and let you know.
Does the roof lining need to be dropped on a 2014 PX1 Ford Ranger to be installed @ocam??
Hey Scott, yes it does.
@@OcamindustriesAu thanks! Will be fitting this weekend 👍🏻
What happens when water gets in the channel between the mounts on the roof? I see you put the rubber strips back in but water will obviously still get under it and With all that sikaflex completely filling up that channel there would be nowhere for the water to pass through front or back..
rust
How would you install it on a naked roof? I have a 08 bt50 sdx and it has no gutter.
Hi Aidan, one of our customers did install it on a PJ or PK Ranger, same roof as your bt50. He made it work. If you email us at enquiries@ocam.com.au we can reply with a photo
Peter Pece Gorgievski cheers mate I'll have to sus it out
Can these be mounted the same way to a arb canopy?
Hi there, yes they can be mounted to canopies. We also do several other canopy specific racks. Here is the link, www.ocamindustries.com.au/roof-racks/canopy/
How far forward can I put the front feet my car curtain air is in the way
Hi, when you sit the rack on the roof for your test run, aim to line it up so that it doesn't go past the angle of the windscreen. If you drew a line straight up the windscreen, try and keep behind that line. Otherwise, mount where it most suits. Please feel free to give us a call during business hours if you need any assistance. (03) 9357-0306.
Why did you have to be in vic! Nice video mate you gave me a new idea to what I was going to do unless there is an easier way on the 09 Hilux
Hey Jonny, not really. It's the same method as this for the 09 Hilux. If you'd like us to connect you with a local fitter, contact our Moorebank team on (02) 9136-0000. Cheers
OCAM 4x4 Accessories - VIC Legend cheers .
hey do you guys have a bracket option for a px ranger extra cab ?
Hi Nick, here's the link you need. www.ocamindustries.com.au/roof-racks/space-extra-cabs/
@@OcamindustriesAu is this the same method for 2012 d22
hey OG, yes same.
Just confused the d22 doesn't have that rubber strip... thanks anyway
Is there locknuts for the screws for the feet? Just order a roof rack
Hi, the nuts that fasten to the bolts which go through the roof are ribbed. Together with the spring washer, they lock the bolts in securely. Please let us know if you need any other info.
What’s the best way to measure the mounts on the other side of the roof to make them exact as the other side? I can’t see it in the video, they only do one side
Hi@@newport5504, you could put the rails, feet and roof rack together, as though it's fully assembled (loosely). Sit it in the roof channels, adjust forward or backward and mark the drilling points on both side. Remove it and go ahead and drill.
OCAM 4x4 Accessories - VIC hey do you put the locknut then the nut? Ex bolt , washer (through roof rack) washer locknut, nut
How do you think rivnuts would work rather than removing head lining
hi, we don't recommend it. The rack requires reinforcement plates fitted under the roof.
@@OcamindustriesAu ok makes sense thanks for the response
Does anyone in townsville do fitting for a navara st
hi, we don't have a fitter in Townsville. You can contact our customer service team who will be able to help you on (07) 3275 2132
Heads up the feet brackets have changed and are way thinner
Hi Weekend Work Ethic, thanks for your message. The shape, size and design of the feet vary depending on make/model. For which make/model did you purchase this roof rack? Regards,
I wish Ocam 4x4 took this much care when they did my roofrack the other day. They did a real dodgy job , one of the mount screws has 6 washers on it. Im going to take it somewhere else to fix it up. Real horie bunch of guys
Hi Willy, really sorry to read your message. Unfortunately, I can't locate an order in your name in our system. Can you please give us a call to get this sorted? Regards,
i would just be pop riviting brackets into channel ( industrial gas riviter ) no need to touch inside of car. big stainless rivits, solid as a rock.
Did you end up using this method?
@@talay2005 yes , solid as a rock
@@tony7830 Sweet. I was a bit hesitant using this method before, but now I will go ahead with it 💪🏼. Do you remember what size rivets you used?
@@talay2005 not sure, just google about rivit sizes, but use stainless steel and youll need a good rivit gun to pop them. the rack will never come off, remember they built the titanic out of rivits, so if you dont hit an iceberg youll be safe.
@@tony7830 Thanks for the reply mate! I'll cross Antarctica off my list for off roading now
Ive ordered this what they dont show you is the mount on the roof is on an angle so when you put the rail on, it dont line up to a 45 degree..... Worst fit had to a cut rail bracket to fit basket very very bad design
Hi Aa Cc, can you please provide your order reference number and we can have someone follow up with you. Regards
Hay bro can you do my navara ?

What happens to aerial?
Hi Lochy, sometimes it can be lowered. Otherwise, it can be replaced with a stubby version
OCAM 4x4 Accessories - VIC cheers
OCAM 4x4 Accessories - VIC just wondering what the weight limit on these are?
Hi@@lochymcneill4921, although the racks haven't been weight rated, they can carry at least 2X your vehicle load limit. The rails are steel. Please maintain weight limits as specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
La instalación más profesional que he visto pero tú cámara Man es muy malo para grabar
hmm, ok. So a few pro tips here. Don't blow away metal filings - use a vacuum. Don't block up the water channel with sikaflex. Instead of using sikaflex to fill the gap between the bracket and the outside of the car, cut a strip from the piece of discarded rubber strip.
