Quite happy to find this video. Just bought (Ebay) the Chinese version as Nissan apparently does not make the OEM rack for the Nissan Frontier (US version of Navara). It comes with NO instructions (they said so up front though). Assembly just requires some care and common sense. Installation is next. Hence, very happy to find this video. Thank you from this side of the pond (Southern California).
Even 9 years later this video is still relevant as the Frontier is still popular. I came here looking for advice but am concerned about the long term safety of using rivnuts on this device. The box comes with 4 large plates that go between the roof and headliner. These installers are taking the short cut with rivnuts so they don't have the tedious job of removing the headliner. This install is probably ok for light duty loads but I plan on having a basket on top of this rack with a heavier load. You would have to tear the roof off if the plates were installed in an accident. Rivnuts ?? Not sure how much horizontal stress they could handle. If you do it this way I would probably strap the assembly down for extra security. The music is insanely crazy by the way.
Hi the rivets used are called rivet nuts. You really need the tool shown in the video to fit properly.

What did you put after drilling? What do you call that piece?
And after that did you put glue @ 2:05 ?
Not sure if this helps anymore but I think it's called a riv nut and he put silicone around that piece to try and waterproof it. (Avoid rust)

@@django121 Did anyone find about these rivnuts ? If I don't have to drop the headliner that would be nice. There are no instructions in the box. I'll wait to hear from someone before I install this rack. Otherwise it looks heavy duty and pretty large. I'm assuming those 4 metals brackets go on the inside of the roof after you remove the headliner.

Hi Phil, yes, I installed it using 6mm rivnuts what helped is that they bolts came with it, I bought the rivnut gun (similar to a pop rivet gun and drilled the holes without removing headliner (be sure to put the right amount of pressure so you don’t go through the headliner - as soon as it punches the hole, I was quick to draw back - didn’t damage the liner).
It crimps the nut very strong so they won’t go anywhere... I then silicones a little around the nuts.
Here is the gun I used and it came with more than enough 6mm nuts (Australian hardware store)

@@django121 Thanks for the quick reply. I need to make a major decision as I see the 4 large metals plates go inside the headliner and makes for a much stronger mount. The rivnuts would be nice and convenient however. I guess it depends how much weight you are placing on the rack. I'm planning on adding a large basket to the rack and adding a significant amount of weight ( of course not exceeding the rating). Thanks again for the link
Phil C. No problem! Ahh you’re right - if you intend on adding weight then might be a little more of a concern for you; whereas I just had it for looks and light weight strapped.

@@4x4accessoriestyres49 If it fits a 2014 then it will fit up to a 2020. The body style of the Frontier has not changed. I'm installing one on my 2019 and it fits fine.

@@psnvmxrgan_7985 Sorry to say that after I received the rack, I decided not to install it. It was not made by Nissan and was made from inferior plastic. It would fit fine and look ok, but I don't think it would hold up to using it as a canoe rack (my intended purpose). I believe the preferred method for install is to remove the headliner but it can be done without removing it if you have the proper tools. Sorry I can't be of more help. I ordered the rack from Amazon and returned it.

What's the diameter of the roof bars?
Hi Brendan, The roof bars diameter is 65mm. They are the same size as the standard Nissan ones. These roof bars are currently out of stock but we are expecting a shipment of them in on the 22nd February.

Danny G.M: they said that the body of the truck (the roof) was not setup at the factory to receive factory roof racks.
maybe they weld brackets to reinforce that area to support the weight of the cargo. i designed and built ladder racks that are removable. they cane out great, better than i was anticipating. it breaks down into a package and easy to store. i add an other “T” shaped ladder rack that goes into the trailer hitch but nothing in the roof.
