  • My 2019 Nissan Rogue came without roof rails and I needed to haul a canoe and Yakima cargo box so I ordered the below rails and set off to do it myself. The instructions are near non-existent for DIY install of roof rails so I put together this quick recording in case anyone is in the same situation.
    Below is the equipment I used:
    ANPART Roof Rails for Nissan Rogue 2014-2019 or X-Trail 2014-2017
    amzn.to/3ztfRz6
    AKKTOL Pop Rivet Gun
    amzn.to/3vb4TMh
    You will need a drill. Can be any drill but I use this one:
    Ryobi Drill
    amzn.to/3cvxlBP
    Not included in this video but I then installed cross bars and these worked great:
    Nissan Rogue Cross Bars

    When I first got my roof rails, their wasn’t a video on it, except one in a different language. I’m happy you posted this video. I’m attempting to put them on now. Your video does help a lot. Thank you for making it.

    I bought this exact kit on Amazon, looked at the instructions and thought I better check to see if there was a youtube video. What you did make sense, what the instructions claim looks completely different. Long story short, thanks for the video, I'm confident I can do it now.

      Glad to hear it. I had the exact same issue and after I installed the first rail, I figured I'd show the second rail install to save others the pain. I think the rivet removal is scary for a lot of people but it's actually easy to do.

      @@NathanGrahamly I installed them Monday, with the video on standby. Glad I didn't use the template provided, like you suggested, because it's a solid inch off. All else went smoothly, thanks again.

      Good to hear! Yep the paper templates and instructions that come with these DIY rail kits leave much to be desired…. Marking the location of the bolts the old fashioned way with a marker or pen is a good idea

    I found this video searching for roof rack solutions for my Rogue. Combined with your helpful instructions and the positive reviews online, I felt comfortable with buying these. Would love to know how they've held up for you since installation.

      So far, so good - I had a large Yakima cargo box on the roof over the summer with probably 100lbs of camping gear at one point, and rock solid. The main issue I could see cropping up with these bars is if you don’t snugly fasten the snap down rail-end covers since those aren’t bolted down like the rest. Hasn’t been an issue though for me.

    Thank you for your video. Just installed it. Seems sturdy. A massive exclamation on the "good pair of wire snips". Is it still holding strong even up to this time?

    • @NathanGrahamly
      @NathanGrahamly  7 місяців тому +1

      Definitely -- no issues at all. I carried quite a lot of weight on these rails this summer for camping trips, too. When I installed this, I thought the end covers would be the issue since they are made of plastic but those have held up fine as well.

    Do you know what size rivet nails we have to use?

    Which roof rack specifically did u use trying to do the same but would like to kno what rack u used

      The specific one I used is linked in the video description and looks like it's cheaper at the moment than when I bought it a couple years ago

    Awesome video, does the rivet that dropped down rattle when you drive now?

    • @NathanGrahamly
      @NathanGrahamly  Рік тому

      Nope, thankfully no rattling. Hard to describe but the rivets are made of very thin aluminum, and the piece that drops isn’t round. So you have something light, that won’t roll, in a large space. I wondered the same thing though and read a good number of tutorials, and really the only way to remove a rivet is to destroy it.

      @@NathanGrahamly thanks for the advice. I just installed the kit today. Unfortunately the bit that came with the rack snapped in half after I drilled 2 holes. I had to leave the trim off and it looks fine. I hope it doesnt leak in some way, but overall I am extremely pleased with this setup.

    This seem to be a good solution for my 21 rogue as it came without racks. I just feel a little unsure about the 4 rivets per rack as the primary attachment to the vehicle. Would those be strong enough? Should I look for a special kid of rivet?

    • @NathanGrahamly
      @NathanGrahamly  Рік тому +2

      I felt the same way but I bought a $22 rivet gun on Amazon and used the included rivets and put a Yakima box on top with 100+ lbs this summer and had no issues. It’s surprisingly sturdy.

    When I got my 17.5 there wasn't even an option to not have side rails unless I got the s model. Most I've seen are the sv or sl with the side rails already installed. Did you originally order yours without rails when you bought it?

    • @NathanGrahamly
      @NathanGrahamly  Рік тому

      I bought this used and haven’t looked into other years but the 2019 Rogue S comes with a bare roof. I’d imagine that’s how many of the other folks landed here.

    Question how did you take off the roof rail covers?

    • @NathanGrahamly
      @NathanGrahamly  4 місяці тому

      You'd think it would be a more high quality material but it's plastic and you just pop them off. I used a flat head screwdriver.

    Question:
    Can I use the rails in a nissan rogue 2011?????

      @NathanGrahamly  Рік тому

      Not sure outside of the 2015-2019 years. I see quite a few roof rails for 2011 Rogues on ebay though. The general approach in this video would still work

      I got them on Amazon and the kit costs a little over a hundred bucks. I put the link to it in the video description
