Have you seen the dance which inspired this one? It is Les Medusees. It is the tale of the Gorgon sisters breaking the spell. ua-cam.com/video/ZeSdm1aCsGw/v-deo.html
It would be amazing if they released unedited versions of all the dances in the film, like the Volk dance, Susie's audition, Susie's first attempt at Volk, etc.
A combination of the choreography, Thom Yorke’s soundtrack, the cinematography, and the feminist tones behind the film made this my favorite movie (and theater experience) of 2018.
But I thi m It’s not really about feminist tho, I think Suspiria implies the conflict and the horror inside the woman’s world themselves and in this case of Three Mothers and the dance academy, I think that resembles Matriarchy by how the witches manipulatethe girl’s life just for achieve their purpose. But at the end, they got what they deserve, they tried to manipulate Suzy Bannion as one of their dolls as well but it turned out to be Suzy was the actual Mother Suspiriorum.
@@JakeMasterss The first obvious example was Olga's dance. It eventually became apparent that Markos' girls-only cult mocked men and even abused them. Madame Blanc and company were extreme feminists, as symbolically they paint Susie's eyes black and mouth (pure) white, then Blanc proceeds to say "don't worry about the white. They need to see you from the back row." The hubris of demagoguery and unchecked cultism eventually resulted in their downfall, as brutally and beautifully shown in the finale.
As a traditional martial artist I found dancing in Suspiria both hauntingly alien and familiar. It seemed so aggressively combative that I was reminded of the many kata I have learned over the years. So precise and forcefully explosive in both linear and circular planes, so many of the stances reminded me of the footwork in those kata that allowed me to shift and pivot into positions advantageous for fighting. I was completely mesmerized watching the film.
Unfortunately stupid critics didn't understand any of it and the crowd went along its a different movie from the original both masterpieces in their own right
Ok, that's nice you got it by seeing this movie, buuut... I'd tell you that basically since 'the begining of man kind' dancing is one of the greatest art forms! (!)
This movie genuinely resonated with me, the dancing and the acting and the visuals it’s so beautiful, it’s just an experience. Gained so so much respect for Dakota, I really hope people see her as more than just the 50 shades of grey girl. Such amazingly executed
Even if Dakota did not perform all the dancing, you can see that she gave her all and she seems like a professional dancer too. 💕 she's a good actress 💞
I wanted to rewatch it in theaters but in my country it was only released ONE week in cinemas with very limited showtimes. All I can do now is get the blu ray and keep the of experience of the first time I watched this movie as one of my most valued memories.
This movie was beautiful. The Volk dance performance in the movie was amazing so strong and cautivating. Susan red hair and pale skin is so attractive. Excelent casting. Imo an all time favorite movie, no doubt about it.
Although I have only seen a clip of the Volk, I found it arresting in that the movements are so sharp, aggressive and primal. The sharp intakes of breath by the dancers and the choreography is hypnotic.
Honestly the movie is worth watching just for that one dancing performance towards the end. I didn't expect to enjoy this type of dancing but it really blew me away.
After rewatching the movie for a 4th time I finally noticed that the cords on the girl’s Volk outfits make the shape of pentagrams across their chests :-0 I love little details like that oh my gosh
The volk dance and the music have not been out of mind! Such a masterpiece and breath of fresh air from the other films that are out, I cannot wait for the Blu-ray 🤗♥️
The original is a favorite of mine, and I was against a remake of it. Then I saw the trailers, watching it tonight. Looks great, like they kept the story and went their own way with it.
Allegedly the reason why the dancing itself wasn't featured in the original very much was because Argento's original script set the story in an orphanage, not a dance academy, & to have the main characters be children, but the distributers thought it was too grim to have children being murdered in such brutal ways on screen so they made Argento change the setting & the age of the characters. One of the criticisms I've read about the original Suspiria is that a lot of the dialogue wasn't changed from the original script so the adult characters ended up speaking & behaving not as grown women but like little girls. "I heard that names that begin with the letter S are the names of snakes! HISS! BLAH! HISS! BLAH!" That would have been a fun line to repeat in the remake though.
See, I don't get that. They are almost two completely different stories. It's like comparing Cinderella to Princess and the Frog. Same thing, different route, so to speak. (and better music, haha) There's room at the top for both to be excellent.
More like Greek Gods. It is based on a dance of the Gorgon sisters, trying to break the spell put upon them. Dig it: ua-cam.com/video/ZeSdm1aCsGw/v-deo.html
Another Jennifer Beals, all the fast and sharp movements were not Dakota. If you want to focus on dance, friggin do a one shot and witness the drama. The movie does several cuts of the dance which is disorienting and annoying. It felt like an action flick during those scenes. and you can't clearly see Dakota's face on a lot of those dance shots. ambitious movie, extremely poor editing.
the Volk dance scene was one of the most (if not the most) captivating and breathtaking dance sequenences i have ever seen. it was mesmerizing.
karl the dance scenes from climax are also incredible
You should watch the intro of Climax in a Gaspar Noe’s film, same year 2018.

The choreography is so synchronized with the darkness that the film evokes. Damien is amazing.

Woesty420 so are your guitar skills.
I love how the ballistic nature of dance displayed in Suspiria was a metaphor for characters’ agendas and the film’s thematic elements.
in what way do you mean?

I would actually love to recreate the Volk dance and dance it with a group. There is something about it. Oh, and Suspiria is a masterpiece. 😊
