  • Steel Pulse Steel Pulse started out playing authentic roots reggae with touches of jazz and Latin music and earned a substantial audience among U.K. punks as well as reggae loyalists. The band is one of Britain's greatest reggae bands, rivaled only by Aswad in terms of creative and commercial success.
Surprisingly, they were initially refused live dates in Caribbean venues in the Midlands because of their Rastafarian beliefs. Kindly watch this episode to learn one or two things about their triumphant story. Subscribe, give it a like, and post a positive comment in the comment section below, Nuff Respek!

I've followed this band since the early 80s....And I've watched David Hinds evolve from a highly talented reggae front man with Steel Pulse in that decade to a Charismatic personality in recent times.....

Been listening to Steel Pulse for 35 years. Seen them perform 4 times, always a pleasure. As a British boy I know very well Handsworth in Birmingham where they had their humble beginnings and look at them now! Plus I think David Hinds has the best dreads that I've ever seen. Aswad too were excellent in the 80's but unfortunately later on changed up their style. Another great video Ras Dennis.

Steel Pulse is my all time favourite reggae band. When speaking of great British reggae bands; however, you omitted mention of UB40

This band is Phenomenal! Good to see David speaking on the focus of the band and not getting involved in non-essential subjects.

In my book, Steel Pulse were the best UK reggae band of the era, leading Aswad by only the narrowest of margins. But what a glorious era for reggae!

The up & coming reggae artists can learn a thing or two from David Hines, too many jamaican artists kill their career with homophobic lyrics not realising touring is really where your monies made, usa has 50 states a band/artist can be on tour 4 9 whole months or more !!!!! Imagine the monies made. I gaurantee you shabba regrets his statements as he was signed 2 a good label & doing well at the time. I see foota hype cussing artists that dnt speak out against the Lgbtq but like David says there are more important issues in the world that needs 2 be discussed.

My favorite reggae band. The 1st time I heard Steele Pulse was ,Sounds called ravers, and I then bought the album and the 12 inch single. I then bought the Handsworth revolution. Then I met Selwin Brown and had a beer with him before they played in Melbourne Florida.

Brethren jamaica is a God bless country ! We not gonna please men just because a spenny, and make God a liar. Seeeeen? If the world dont wanna hear truth, then face the wrath of the almighty ! Which is the reaction of their works. Seeing no man or woman made themselves. Jamaica good !!!

David Hines is obviously just an entertainer. He seems only to adhere to convictions that don't compromise his ability to entertain to make money. Jamaicans are not afraid of homosexuals nor do they have apologize for the fact that they don't agree with their agenda.

I get what David is saying, but hear this, as a Jahmerican, i will never support the gay lifestyle, and Jamaicans should not either. How to protect our culture-especially the music aspect of it is to buy our own product. Trust me, Jamaicans does not buy their own music. Here is the solution, If a reggae song can sell 500,000 copies in Jamaica there is no need to bow-down to anyone-PERIOD! And my brother David, Americans is more than opposed to the gay lifestyle.

Being void of overstanding is a capitalist crime. The plight of we the African people of the world is the primary subject to be discussed in Roots music.
