JA I rcall, Janis was classically trained and had a beautiful classical voice and hr mother was distraught that sh was ruining hr classical singing voice.
Janis' voice had a very unique polyphonic quality and that means at times she was actually hitting overtones of multiple notes at once....you can hear it in this song several times. Tibetan monks train for years to do this in their chanting but Janis was born with it! Other people may be able to sing her songs but....there will never be another Janis. Not even close!
My favorite Janis Joplin songs are "Ball and Chain", "Cry Baby", and "Piece of My Heart". I think you'd like them.
I LOVE this rendition of Summertime,..the band and Janis' raspy voice and interpretion is wonderful
They say Janis Joplin was an open wound.. you can just hear her pain in her music.
Janis wore her soul like a blanket trying to protect her from pain, hurt, anger, & even love! This woman was one of a kind, & sadly missed by everyone who loved & understood her music ❤ 💚 💙 She truly was a gift that was only with us for a short time, but what a glorious time it was!!! Thank you, for such a thoughtful & honest reaction ❤ 💚 💙
Janis is one of those rare singers who really dont have a bad song. She is also a singer that could sing the phone book and i would still love it. My mom loved Janis, she would tell me stories about handing out on Sunset Strip and seeing her. R.I.P. Mom & Janis
Love Janis, what she got can’t be taught💐💙💐💙 thanks y’all
Janis Joplin Work Me Lord Live in Stockholm 1969. One of her top three performances that will blow your mind! Good Luck!
Janis' version is considered by many to be the definitive version of the song.
So many great versions of Summertime but this is by far my favorite.
Her band was phenomenal
Summertime is an aria composed in 1934 by George Gershwin for the 1935 opera Porgy and Bess.
First tiem I heard Janis I was 14 years old. I loved her and Jimi Hendrix and feel privledged to come out of generation with so much great music. Timeless
I love her music. Always have enjoyed her sound.
My mom's favorite female artists I think my mom listen to her when I was in the womb I find her soothing and comforting❤
Love her..very respectful respectful reaction…no interruptions A+
Her work me lord live In Stockholm performance is my favorite!
Ball and Chain live at Monterey Pop
Janice was actually a shy person. But you'd never know it when she sang.
A must hear is "Work Me Lord", Stockholm 1969.
You'll get a lot of requests for Ball and Chain, which is fabulous in its own right, but everyone and their brother has reacted to it.
Janis had no bad music, but some show you exactly who Janis was.
Also, "Little Girl Blue" and "A Woman Left Lonely" show the more introspective Janis.
Raise Your Hand (on the Tom Jones Show) show exactly how dynamic her presence was... Tom had a hard time matching her energy!
She performed with Johnny Winter, BB King, Albert King and Jimi Hendrix on the Blues stage (at Woodstock no less.)
Albert King called her the Queen of the Blues.
Yeah. Janis was one of a kind.
This is my favorite Janis tune. Amazing. 🇨🇦🔥🌟🥇🤗🥰
The first time I heard this was in Ralph Bakshi's film, American Pop. It's been my favorite song for over 40 years.
Janis'audience would have been familiar with this song, which is an aria from the Black American opera Porgy and Bess. Many singers had recorded it before Janis did, but her take on it was different.
It's a song about babies dying.
I believe "Summertime" is from the musical production of "Porgie and Bess"? Long time ago!
Her voice has always given me chills
Blues, Rock and Soul She could do it all. She connects and shares her creative spirit by keeping it real. Listen to "Me and Bobby McGee" my favorite. Janis is a blessing. Nice and comfortable place you got here. Peace
So Janis is one that truely sang from her soul, she just let it out🤘🙏 she sadly is a member of the 27 club,, ,if you don't know of it, there are more than a few who's candles burned bright and fast,, and they all left a mark🤔🤔👍👍 Janis, Jimmy, to name only 2
You should listen to her entire Pearl album. It is unbelievable.
Rolling Stone picked it's 100 Greatest Singers of All Time and it raked Janis Joplin at 28th.Greatest.
Need to do 'Work me Lord' from the same concert (Stockholm, Sweden 1969)...nothing like it.
Her Frankfort performances were phenomenal
I LOVE YOU JANIS!
You have to react to live performances from Janis to get the full effect. She is unparalleled. "Maybe" live on variety shows. "To Love Somebody" live on the Dick Cavett Show. "Crybaby" live concert. "Work Me Lord" live in Stockholm Sweden. "Litte Girl Blue" live on the Tom Jones Show. Transcendent performances.
These are some really fantastic songs every single one of these I also love when Janice performs “raise your hand” with Tom Jones the chemistry and they’re really having fun with it!
@@proudarmymom8657 I love the dancing they do together. Janis even backs it up a bit.😎
Love Janis!
The next one should be "Ball and Chain" at the Monterey Pop Festival...
Add "A Woman Left Lonely" and "Little Girl Blue" to your playlist
Janis Joplin - Codine, Mercedes Benz, Ball and Chain Monterey 1967, Move Over, Kozmic Blues, Down on me, All is loneliness.
Billie Holiday - Summertime 1939, Speak low, Fine and Mellow, Strange Fruit, Black symphony 1935.
Bessie Smith - Downhearted blues 1923.
Bessie and Billie were probably most important inspirations for Janis.
Work me lord is amazing
Janis was your favourite aunt at all the bbq’s! ❤️
Get It While You Can, Half Moon, Kozmic Blues, Cry Baby, Move Over, Down On Me,
Her best live performance is Work me Lord.
Sadly janis became a member of the 27 club. She forever will be missed, and her music is now for the ages😢
Some of her other live performances (which are on UA-cam) are just as spectacular: "Use Me Lord" (live); "Little Girl Blue" (Live on Tom Jones show); "Maybe" (live on the Ed Sullivan Show). Worth checking out.
Me and Bobbie McGee and Little Girl Blue - but react to the official recorded versions please
my respect
'me and bobby mcgee'
Beautiful couple
Attributed of course to the greatest choreographer in American history, The great George Gershwin.
🌹Thank You.
My favorite from Janis.
Can't pick a favorite but"Cry Baby" and "Tell mama " blues are where and what you have lived , not a colour x love you two , your vibe is all love ,
That's the year I graduated from high school, lol.
😊🎊🎉
Please try "Ball & Chain" at Monterey!
Work me Lord and Little Girl Blue both live versions please💞✌
Check her out having a blast with Tom Jones on Raise Your Hand. Subbed!
Maybe: Studio version
Please react to "Piece of My Heart, audio version, Janis Joplin!!
Move Over By Janis
Listen to ball and Chain at the montero pop festival
We can listen to the song anytime, anywhere so it's preferable that you pause before reacting so, 1) we can actually hear what you're saying and 2) so you don't miss any little nuances of the performance.
Love Janis sometimes I felt Janis & Jimi Hendrix were so great that everyone else was in the minor leagues they both died a month apart at the ages of 27
good capo
Blues suggestion Five Long Years
Steve Marriott and Packet of Three live🎸🎤🔥
Listen to Ball and Chain.
And you didn't even get the best version of Summertime. Try the version with Jimi Hendrix on guitar.
The studio version is so much better than this, although this is good
Check out Ball and Chain 1967
It was done way before Janis and the guy you mentioned. How about over 70 years ago.
Check out "Cry baby"
Janis was very much influenced by the singing style of Bessie Smith!
WORK ME LORD blows me away decades later.
celos on yuo men
Stupid reaction from untrained people
Its from Porgy and Bess just in case you didn't know
