My late big Sister used to sing "Summertime" to me when I couldn't fall asleep.
My Big Sis sounded just like Janis Joplin & looked just like Barbra Streisand (think "Funny Girl").

Janis had more soul in her nail clippings than most people could muster.

She needs to find a more smooth pleasing voice instead of the rough extra gravely one she uses.. Emotion is not everything.. ♠W.G.

Maybe she should have traded some of her nail clippings in for a more pleasing voice.. Just saying.. Lots of emotion and loud screaming, not a pleasing voice.. ♠W.G.

I’m glad she put on a show for you.
I saw her, she was pissed because the cops wouldn’t let her keep her Southern Comfort on stage.
The setlist was pretty short, no encore.

Janis was a phenomenon. Beyond being, undoubtedly, the finest female blues/rock vocalist in modern history. She was an angel who walked the Earth, at a time when we all needed her the most... but, for FAR too brief of a time.
Although she left us way too soon, the magic of her music remains... and her love.
We love you too, Pearl. Forever & Always.
    Cheers! 🍻🌹🌎❤🎤🎶🎸🎵✌

Damn I just love her. People were cruel to her in school and when she tried to go to college. It breaks my heart and I wish she knew how loved she is! We still listen to you! You’re loved and will always be loved, Janis! I hope the bullies in school think everyday how they hurt her. Words matter! Be kind to people, because people tend to forget the good things people say, and the bad things stick with them. We love you Janis. I hope somehow you know how appreciated you and your music still is! 😢♥️💐

Janis was such an amazing performer, how tragic that her personal life was full of heartache and self doubt. The movie Little Girl Blue is an enlightening documentary about Janis. She was voted "ugliest man on the campus"...can you imagine what effect that had?😔😔

I am 69 and have been rocking with Janis Joplin since I was early teens and she will always be my number one female😊😊😊❤❤❤ the only one I think can even come close is the legendary Beth Hart especially when she sings I'd rather go blind😊😊😊 hands down my favorite song by Janis is little girl blues song on the Tom Jones Show and she also sang a duet with Tom Jones called raise your hand which is fire❤❤❤

This lady could sing! Sadly we lost her too soon. She was only 27 when she died. "Me & Bobby McGee" is one of my favorites by her but she had a lot of great songs such as "Piece Of My Heart", "Cry Baby", "Down On Me", "Maybe", "Little Girl Blue", "Ball & Chain", "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)", "To Love Somebody", "Get It While You Can", "Bye, Bye Baby", "Move Over" & her original song "Mercedes Benz".

Monterrey is where Cass Elliot was in the audience. She was wearing sunglasses, shaking her head, & saying "Wow".
My all-time favorite Joplin songs are "Turtle Blues" & "Little Girl Blues".
From what I understand, Joplin recorded one take of "Turtle Blues" & was supposed to come back the next day to tweak the recording. She never made it back into the studio because she left us, for good. Listen to that recording & tell me it's not one of her best songs ever.

What a tragic member of the 27 club. She had such a split personality -- on the one hand, she could absolutely transfix a crowd of tens of thousands with her gigantic stage presence. But off stage she was very soft-spoken and suffered from crippling self-doubt and insecurity.

I grew up listening to my Dad singing this ( & other tunes) in the style of Paul Robeson, Dad's voice was as deep. My parents love of music, the family singing around the piano, played by Mum who was self taught, led to me loving so many types of music, & several versions of this tune. Love Sculpture's version (with Dave Edmunds) is worth a listen too.
P.S. Dad loved Ella Fitzgerald's version & so do I.

Now there is a band of kids who has a singer that is unusual like Janis was. LILIAC is to be experienced, not just heard. MeloDia had me hooked 3 years ago and the rest of her siblings.
