      True. Moved long ago from rM1 as the writing alone is not enough. I need to encorporate what I write whether a note or in pdf /eboub into a productive system. A kindle maybe. I tried boox which was OK. But I am getting supernote a5x soon as it seems to tick many boxes of the above.

    I think I speak for a lot of students using the rM when I say that a tool for basic shapes, straight lines and perfect circles is also definitely something which is needed in future updates. (feels pretty stupid to draw on your tablet with a ruler during lectures)

    • @___xyz___
      @___xyz___ 3 роки тому +2

      I actually use a physical ruler with rubber feet to draw lines. But on the rM1 (or at least _my_ rM1) it's clunky and inaccurate. I've waited for basic shapes myself. But the longer I thought about it, the more I realised that it wouldn't completely satisfy me as a graphics studio like Photoshop, but leave me expecting the same features. In the end, I think it's better to just learn to draw accurately free hand and put the ruler away. There are still work scenarios where the reMarkable or the iPad or even a full-fledged computer with a large pen display can not replace paper. It's important to not forget that its actual use case is very narrow. The practical use of technology is typically even more narrow than its intended use in its beginning stages.

    I can only agree with all the comments about the reader functionality here. The most basic functions are either non existing (bookmark a page, highlight text for later reference). Or half-assed (TOC without indentations). These functionalities aren't a distraction, they're an improvement. I also like to use sticky notes as 'bookmarks' in physical books for easy reference so why would I have less functionality than a physical book??

    Absolutely brilliant review - and your English is unbelievably good by the way! I really wanted to be talked into getting one of these but I see that it needs more thought and development. A real shame because you and the people taking the time to comment here - largely thanks to YOUR wonderfully detailed presentation - have told the company EXACTLY what they need to do to get their product up to speed. If it were my company, the first thing I would do is to hire you to work with engineers on producing the package that virtually EVERYBODY in the market for such a device would kill to get their hands on!!!
    Again - this series of reviews is one of the most useful and impartial I have ever come across - if Remarkable listen to you and get it right, they will sell TONS of these. Thank you!

    This whole situation doesn't make any sense to me. It just seems to be so obvious to add those features.
    For me there are only three options why they haven#t added them:
    1) They are not aware that this kind of functionality is highly wanted by the community.
    2) We just think it is important to "the community", but actually most users don't care about those features
    3) they are not able to implement them, because of some Software/ licensing issues
    None of these make sense to me though.
    It's like if Apple would release their new Ipad model without the ability to watch videos.
    In any case, the easiest thing they could do about it, is just to communicate these issues.
    reMarkable is no big company and I see no reason why they couldn't be communicating more directly with their customers.
    If you are reading this reMarkable, please understand that I seriousely consider taking back my preorder, because of these missing features.
    As do many other people I am sure.

    As a software developer, I think that all the things you've mentioned are feasible. The only thing that can be an issue, is the color part. As you may know remarkable uses a technology called e-ink, ant until now as far as i'm concerned, it doesn't use color...

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  3 роки тому +1

      I think you misunderstood me. Not to display color, but to allow that we draw and write strokes that will be exported in certain colors. For example, when grading papers and writing remarks, in green, blue or red "color". It will still display black on the device itself, but when exported as a PDF, PNG or SVG, the strokes will not be black, but instead will be of a green, blue or red color, when viewed on color displays.
      This is something Onyx Boox has had for quite a while now and there is absolutely no limitations or reason not to have it on the reMarkable as well. It's as simple as setting the color property of the written stroke, or selection or even a layer. It silly how simple it is and how usable it would be.

    Interesting. To be honest when the delays kept piling on, and random comments on their various ads (i get them a lot on instagram) I was getting real "kick-starter crap" vibes from this.
    It sounds like the device hard-ware is top-notch, where-as the feature-set and firmware are not great. What would you suggest as an actual note tablet like this that one would use professionally? My use-case would be reading a lot of mathematical papers and wanting to scribble and annotate as I read them, and export these to a cloud.

    I am trying to recall, didn't Kindle experiment with a large format eReader? I do not recall it selling well. So this is a value add that you can have a large format reader. However, I tend to think if you are looking for something to read pre-written documents either downloaded from the web or created on another device, you should look at an eReader and not a note taking device. As to the performance issue around formatting ePubs, that is most likely due to limited Ram. In this day and age of high density silicon, higher storage and ram would have been available and kept the form the same and power consumption the same.

    This part makes me doubt if i still want the RM2. I pre-ordered it in the hope i could use it to limit my paper-use when reading documents and making notes on the side in split-screen. Not able to pan in documents. No landscape mode. Not being able to get my signature directly on PDF's. It's all lacking terribly in the reader-part. Reading further upon the software-side of the RM team, i'm doubtfull there will be a big update coming up with the release or in coming months.
    It looks great, but not 400 euro great, with the limited capability. Not even close. I was hoping that with a new device, new software and options would be available. Not the case it seems.
    Will think about it for a few days, but now i stand at: Cancelling the order and maybe buying another E-ink device or a second hand RM1 for a much lower price.

      No on all of those. I am part of the beta test program, but it's very strange, as the communication is quite sparse there as well, and for example, the trash functionality is something I reported way back when, but the reply back was "it is a carefully thought out design". So yeah. I try, but there seems to be a bit of an attitude there and a resistance in relation to external influences.
      Honestly, most of the software issues is something I've been asking for, for about 2.5 years, but nope. No communication from them regarding such things, if I'm honest.

I thank you, in particular, for the "PDF section" and "technical document section", which I was extremely interested in. The 1 million dollar question is: would you advice this product for technical documents reading purposes only? Is remarkable 2 equal to Onyx Book Max 3? I know that the first one is 10.3" and the latter is 13", but in terms of reading the different size does really matter? I was (and still is) looking for a Technical PDF reader in which I can visualise an entire page without zooming in/out and still easily readable. I also need to highlight what I need withing the PDF text. Taking notes is cool but secondary. THANKS SO MUCH, REALLY MUCH!!!

In over words, is the reading format universal in the device? - on the first opening of the ebook, does it take a long time before being capable to read?
    I am a really heavy kindle user and I will probably use the RM2 for reading (50% of the time). I don't really care about side functions but I want a usable device. I heard that some people ssh into the device to install an over reading app. In your opinion, is it mandatory for the moment? I except RM to improve the reading experience in future updates ...

      Unfortunately, OneNote doesn't support e-ink devices, which results in it running so slow that it's practically unusable. Technically speaking, Boox devices allow you to install it, and it will work, but the refresh speed will be unusably slow because the OneNote app isn't updating the screen the way an e-ink screen should be updated, which manifests itself in the form of extremely laggy writing latency.
      So no, I don't know of an e-ink device that can do that.
