That's how women are supposed to be they should never try to stop someone from doing something they love and they all need to quit doing that bullshit.
When I learned to set up my own guitar and do the basic maintenance and repair stuff like filing down the jagged frets, repairing the electronics, and balancing the tremolo, it opened up a world of cheap guitars that I could make up for the shortcuts they took in production. I think anyone who loves guitars should learn how to do the basic stuff. You can take a cheap guitar and bring it up to the level of an $800+ guitar by simply doing the things they skipped at the factory.
Setup has become major factor in the difference in guitars with how good guitar factories have gotten and how much is computer operated. Things like PLEK can make them even more even, and if it gets more affordable they will get even more alike.
I have a mahogany JS32 I bought for $150 which is the same guitar with a floyd rose on it and it's a beast. Pickups sound awesome and mine also has perfect fretwork, the action is so low with no buzz and the neck is slim and fast.
Awesome !! What a fantastic upgrade you done did ! I'm learning so much, I think once we move and get settled in the new house, I'm going to set up a bench and get started reviving that Harmony kids guitar with the blue Lucite body for my youngest grandson. We'll see if it was worth the $4.99 we paid for it at Salvation Army.
So, y'all said you was about 60 or so. Hell, I got SOCKS older than that - and I'm STILL rockin'. Hey, If I don't see you before hand ... I hope you and yours have all the BEST in the New Year.
Holy crap that's a pretty guitar! I don't remember the last time I even saw a Jackson, and sort of assumed they were only for the Randy Rhodes/Marty Friedman/Paul Gilbert-types. Some nice rock tones out of that baby!
Jacksons are nice. Just sold my original owner 1990 Soloist Pro MIJ. Picked up an inexpensive Jackson Dinky JS22 for $140 new on amazn. Plays great out of the box. The string angle on the head and standard nuts are a PITA. With a locking nut, no worries.
I love sleeper guitars, a Strat traditional style with hot HH pickups on a tortishell 3 ply pickguard And shielding paint and clean soldering. You scored a real winner Cathy! And Sean you are going to get it playing great. I m still shopping for a a loaded pickguard HH for my plywood wonder . Did my pictures get to you?
My wife and daughter bought me a white JS-22 for this past Father's Day. I love it! It definitely brings back memories of when I couldn't afford one and they were all over MTV...lol. Great job!
I haven't bought many used instruments from Amazon, but my experience with buying used items from Amazon has been pretty good overall. It can be hit or miss for sure. The one instrument I definitely remember buying was a used ukulele. I saved about 45% off the regular price, it was like new, and all it needed a new set of strings. I've bought other things listed as "acceptable" and they show up in new condition. I've had a few bad experiences like the time I bought a used like new ratchet. It arrived all beat up and missing all of the ratcheting parts. Most recently I bought a set of lettered punches and it was a total mess and not anywhere close to the full alphabet. You win some and you lose some!
Me too! I’ve gotten $60 rain shoes for my service dog that were from Amazon Warehouse for $11. Do I care if the box is beat up if the shoes are new inside? There’s no risk either - if you don’t like it, just send it back like anything else.
Sean, I bought a guitar for $170 delivered and it’s one of the best I’ve ever owned. It’s an IYV Issy 200 Na . I put a set of Seymour Duncan sh-6 p/u’s in it. Neck thru body too!
I bought a Jackson 7 string, changed out the pickups and put some locking tuners on there and it plays great 👍 Also, have to point out that Fender owns Jackson 😉
I had a red Jackson with a Floyd Rose. I wound up selling it, getting a Martin. Stumming and singing acoustic for a long time. Only just recently bought a Vox, a Gretsch and a couple peddles. I'm starting to get kind of good, at 53
*I've been seeing these too and a Jackson product so cheap is phenomenal, and I'm happy to see these major brands are remaining competitive while Gibson is in bankruptcy and Fender just barely remains competitive with these price points.* I used to talk to the guy that owns the Bellcat branding years ago on Ebay and a couple other spots. *He actually asked me for name suggestions, I came up with Belltone, and maybe several days later, he coined Bellcat lol.* I've also repotted pickups with really no change afterward, but if I were to do it again, I would get a glue pot and use hot glue sticks! *I guarantee that would eliminate any microphonic effects you're getting.*
If you melt a bit of fresh solder on your tip just before you go in, the melted solder will melt the old solder faster, then you're not applying heat to anything long enough to damage it, looks better for video, and will possibly save a circuit board or solder pad for you in the future. Great Video!
New subscriber. I love your appreciation of scarred guitars. I find it hilarious that people pay for "reliced" guitars, but balk at buying something used with some real world battle damage.
Sweet, a Jackson. I wonder what model that is. I love them, but I don’t know too much about them is that a relatively newer model? I’m sure it’s not made in the US at that price. But you see? Plays great. No need to be a cork sniffer about it! Check who the seller is, btw. Sometimes it gives you a clue if the seller deals with re-selling used instruments or whether it may have been a return scammer lol. I would also think the description would have had to tell you more details beyond just stating it’s used. Btw, why not just use Cathy’s hairdryer as a “heat gun” - it would have a cool blast button that would come in handy to harden the wax inside back immediately! 😉👍🏻 🤘🏻🎸
had a charvel for almost 30 yrs still works perfect, bought a new jackson rhoads v(made in china) so a chackson i guess from musicians friend - melted down in 45 mins had to send it back.
Dammit son tearin that shit up Sean. Then Trey comes in and starts jammin and killin it also. That is a nice guitar you stole it man. Looks badass too. Thanks guys for another good one. Take care.
I have 2 of the same guitar in arctic white and they are awesome for the price! Even new they used to go for about $200. If anyone has a chance, I recommend snagging one!
I got a really good deal on a Jackson js32 in natural oil finish and a fender lt25 amp. Not crazy about the floyd rose but the guitar looks and plays great! The neck is sweet!
I bought a Jackson js32 3 weekend ago in a secondhand store with Jacksons Floyd rose whammy bar. And it doesnt work at all. Everytime I use the whammybar just a little bit the guitar goes out of tune. Have you similar experiences?
Sean nice buy and great vid a usual. Give “ autosol” metal polish a try it comes in a tube IMO best metal polish out there and certainly way cheaper than noxon, I bought 2 tubes a few years ago and still haven’t opened the second tube and I own 30 guitars which I clean restring and polish.
And You Shawn have a real Jem as a wife who bought you this interesting guitar. Damn i'm so impressed, seriously, that was really smart of her. Hat off for Cathy. Amazing video. Thank you! ~Rob
I'm the same when it comes to neck profiles. I love every one I've owned. From my Gibson LP R8 to my Ibanez Jem. Every time I've played a new guitar I think, oh this is the neck profile for me. Until I get a new guitar with a different profile. So I've succumbed to the realization that I love all neck profiles and am comfortable on any. From my baseball bat R8's profile, to my Edwards blade thin super Strat.
The only ones I don’t care too much for are those weird ass v shaped fender necks. I can and have played one. But it almost feels like you have a thumb shelf. Every other neck I’ve played I can at least make it make noise 😂
Man great video + great deal on the Jackson. I had a Charvel back in the late 80s cover band played a decent amount of heavy rock/metal was my main axe. The himbuckers have that compressed Jackson sound thees nothing quite like it. Your lady is amazing my wife was too bought me a few guitars sadly she passed away 4 years ago. She knew I had the passion as your wife does. Keep on rockin buddy your post was informative and cool
Was away from UA-cam for a while came back and glad to see your still going strong! In case you forgot who I am you made me the flaming V guitar. Nice to see your still going strong brother!
OK Just found your channel ,and yeah I like it. Your jammin ,and showing others how to take care of their rigs. You can't ask for more then that. Not to mention I just bought a Jackson Dinky off of Amazon (new condition) ,and I will be getting it this week so I will let you know how it turns out. Paid a little more but it has the floyd rose w/fret locks with a light electric blue color.
The little nicks and inperfections to me adds character to it. I call it "Patina!" You should see my strats, hehe. They look awesome. Great find. As long as theyre not blue, im all in.
I got Swan Neck Deformity 5 fingers with a messed up knuckle on the ring finger of my right hand. I been playing finger style since about 19 and 64. My first surgery is January 11. Wish you well Allen.
I bought a Jackson js22 from a pawnshop last month. Black matte finish. It was $110 out the door. It is my second favorite guitar of the 8 i own. Just p lays so good.
i love that you say that you are a lover of all guitar necks. I have a bunch of electrics and they all have wildly different neck sizes/shapes and I just roll with what's in my hand and love it. They all offer something different.
Thank you for sharingi have one in blue with a floating bridge.i dont use the whammy bar.laughs...has the arch top to.have always wanted my own jackson.dream come true.you did a beautiful job on bringing it back to it's rightful glory.Keep doing what you love.Peace and Tranquility Sir.
Not a bad deal at all! This is EXACTLY why you should learn how to maintain your guitar, and do work on it. You can find guitars that need a little love, and fix them up with tools you already own!
For what it’s worth, I’ve bought a couple “used “guitars from Amazon. If you notice a seller, they are usually a Guitars shop and it’s probably like you said either a return or a demo model that gets beat up a little bit. I found a Squier CV jazz master and I could only find one little mark on this one but the box was damaged so it was only about $250.
I read somewhere from one luthier that using sheet metal screws in place of the wood screws for the neck results in a tighter bond but I haven't had a chance to test it myself
I first thought this was a JS22, 'cos it's hardtail, but now I realized it has a tune'o'matic-bridge! No current Jackson model has that (at least in this price range and shape), to my knowledge! Thus I wonder how old is this guitar actually?! Also, Belcat has been making the Jackson branded pickups for several years already. EDIT: Nvm, I googled the serial number! This is a JS32TQ DKA from 2018!
It looks cool. Nice body and all. I'm not a big fan of the tail piece. But, as long as you're happy more power to you Sean!! Happy new year to you both!!!
Jacksons have some of the best action for shredding, and come with a great manual that details how to set them up properly. Some of the JSs give Squiers and even some Fenders a run for the money - sibling brands that they are now. The extreme headstock can create some tension that could affect tuning and nut wear - one has to be OK with that. Overall though, an easy choice for a high quality guitar.
Buddy.. I've been playing Jackson's since the early 80s... I have Gibby's and Kramers.. And I almost always grab a Jackson off the wall or outta the case...
Sean, love yer content, as usual! @18:38, you mentioned the bridge posts seemed loose. Couldn't you use a small strip of everyday "plumber's tape" around each post to tighten up the "rattle" you had?
O.K. now cut a Locking nut shelf and through bolts and then put a KAHLER vibrato tremelo onto it. Now throw in a Dimarzio super distortion humbucker in the bridge and the bobbin color of your choice. Now throw in a Dactivator neck humbucker into the neck slot on your guitar. Now turn and burn those solos and punchy thrash rythums. Use some awesome high ratio tuners, and remove all the fretwire, and add some STAINLESS steel fretwire. Now you are all set.
The H-S-S or S-S-S style of Strats have always been my favorites. But I've always thought the Jackson's punch well above their weight class. As far as H-H guitars go, You'd think they're like LP's or SG's since the configuration is similar. But the cheaper, high-output ceramic pickups of the Jackson's just growl and produce darker tones than I normally think of when I think of Gibson's (SG's and LP's). While Gibson's are great all-rounders for Humbucker tones, they just can't give the same Dark Metal Growl that Jackson's do. And I've never picked up a LP or SG that was anywhere near as comfortable to play as a Jackson.
Your happy Spirit is genuine and it shows!. Me,,, Charvel/Jackson 3b bass. Ive had 35 yrs. Never goes out of tune. Solid, punchy, huge. An absolute beast. Ive used it in original rock bands, classic rock cover bands, Americana, blues... best bass guitar on earth. Sorry Fender. Sorry Gibson..! For all its age and nicks and dings, ...i love it. Scar my guitar!
Great video! All the Jackson guitars less expensive and really expensive always have really good necks. I have one made in Japan and one made in China and they both have great necks. At least for me, I really like them.
That guitar is really boss! Did Jackson wax their Humbuckers? I think it is so cool that you showed us how to do it. I really wish I had a pair of those Seymour Duncan’s. They are too nice to go on my plywood Silvertone special.
I’m an old school Jackson lover from the late 80s myself. I remember falling for a cherry red Jackson at the guitar store when I was taking lessons back then and never did end up buying one. Might have to end up biting the bullet and doing it thanks to this video
I took the wood file to mine and filed down some of that edge by my forearm it adds to that arch top killer guitar for the project love your videos thanks for sharing
Got a JS3 concert bass on Ebay. Used but in mint condition. The only issue was a missing truss rod cover. Didnt even have light surface scratches. Paid $145. Seller was a pawn shop.
Wow, that was a smoking hot deal. A steal if you ask me. Beautiful guitar with killer frets Shawn. Good job with it and the jamming session. You and Trey really rocked it in there today. Thank you for sharing this. I feel truly blessed watching you guys. Have a good 2024 all of you and take care! Over and out. I prefer to use watercolors and Loctite-glue on the dents. 😉☮ ~Rob
Ya know, you can use the fretboard straightness gage/bar across the fret crowns as well. That’s the true functional shape that your strings will see. When you use a rocker gage, you’re only seeing the height variability between 3 frets (actually 2). Jackson by far isn’t a “budget” brand. Plus, Jackson is Fender. Not trying to be an ass. Just trying to help.
I have a 2019 Jackson RR and i love the stock Jackson. Humbuckers ! Mine are not microphonic so i just left em alone. I know that they say Jackson on them but i don't think that are Belcat but would not be surprised if they are the same, they read damn near the same as yours.
Used comes from returns if the vendor of the original has agreed to pay for the returns department to check it over for damage and to repack it and relist it. Otherwise, returns may go to one of those "buy Amazon returns and surplus giant boxes" things that you may see peddled every once in a while. Also there's a warehouse deal category that may be a return or may be an undeliverable that came back and was checked for obvious damage. And also a brand new but damaged box will end up in warehouse deals. They'll have a sticker somewhere that has a barcode and a number code which begins with "LPN".
Is that one a pre-Fender Jackson? I'd love to see a shoot out between it and a new Fender-managed Jackson. You guys have quite the crew there. Always brings a smile when Kathy gets involved.
I put the glue in the holes, that way it'll never bubble up to damage the finish. And on your loose bolts, you can stick a little piece of toothpick and screw the pole over it, it will lock it tight.
In my opinion you just can’t beat a Jackson neck. I have 3 Jacksons and a Charvel sense the early 90s and I’ve never had to adjust the truss rod change pots or switch . Jacksons was built for the working musicians .
Teflon tape r even a tiny piece of masking tape. In the treads of the posts, it doesn't take much. But it takes out the wobble and looseness, that I can't stand. Loose inserts that pull up ,, I seat with a drop or two of plain old white, water sol., Elmer's. So many rattling posts and inserts that pull up. Those are my never fail tricks forty years!
That's a good woman who let's her man follow his passion, and an even better one who shares it with him.
That's how women are supposed to be they should never try to stop someone from doing something they love and they all need to quit doing that bullshit.
Hard to find and she’s a keeper ❤
No one should stop you from your hobby
You are killing it with these videos! Thank you for all your efforts. It's awesome viewing.
Best thing I ever did was join this channel. Damn good stuff Sean! Thank you my man.

I'm learning so much, I think once we move and get settled in the new house, I'm going to set up a bench and get started reviving that Harmony kids guitar with the blue Lucite body for my youngest grandson. We'll see if it was worth the $4.99 we paid for it at Salvation Army.
Harmony aren't bad they are about as good as a peavy guitar.
Love that jam session with a drum track, Big thumbs up brother..👍🤘🎸
So, y'all said you was about 60 or so. Hell, I got SOCKS older than that - and I'm STILL rockin'. Hey, If I don't see you before hand ... I hope you and yours have all the BEST in the New Year.

I bought a Jackson 7 string, changed out the pickups and put some locking tuners on there and it plays great 👍

Randomly came across this video, and so glad I did. Super entertaining from start to finish. Thanks for posting👍. Subscribed.

Holy shit Trey just blew up that video!! Very nice!
Ive seen a few of your videos and i gotta say i like your attitude towards everything. Thanks for the entertainment and knowledge you keep dropping.
Total agree on that
When you find a guitar that gives you that nostalgic feeling your playing reflects how much you love it
New subscriber. I love your appreciation of scarred guitars. I find it hilarious that people pay for "reliced" guitars, but balk at buying something used with some real world battle damage.
you're a smart man getting your wifey involved in the guitar stuff you do. That's cool to see your channel and point of view.
Finger nail polish works great for touch ups that's what I would do to the one scuff on the upper cutaway or any other little scuff
What a deal! I might touch the body up a little. But not go crazy. I'm good at touch ups
I bought one of the stewmac fret “kisser” tools for fret spot leveling and it really makes life easier.
That was very interesting with the potting of the pickups in wax. What type of wax do you use and what were you heating it in?
Never mind, you answered it in the description, but I did find it interesting and I learned something new.
Hey, Sean. I hope you and the Mrs. have a great New Year.
Been a Jackson fan since the 90s
Got myself a PS1 JS22 & JS32
And that $115 is a Jackpot deal!
Sweet, a Jackson. I wonder what model that is. I love them, but I don’t know too much about them is that a relatively newer model? I’m sure it’s not made in the US at that price. But you see? Plays great. No need to be a cork sniffer about it!

Had a 7 string the same color and quilt, stolen out of the back of my truck, sick guitars and Charvel are awesome too
had a charvel for almost 30 yrs still works perfect, bought a new jackson rhoads v(made in china) so a chackson i guess from musicians friend - melted down in 45 mins had to send it back.

What kind of fender amp is that behind you? Great video. Time for me to go shopping for a Jackson!
Not to start a debate here but Jackson ,in my opinion is the best guitar out there
I’m a Seymour Duncan P90 fan on a Jackson 😊
I have 2 of the same guitar in arctic white and they are awesome for the price! Even new they used to go for about $200. If anyone has a chance, I recommend snagging one!
I'm pretty sure that is a JS32 or JS34 which retail for around $300-350, so I'd say you got a good deal.

@@RunningWithScissors765 I have a Dean Soltero USA with an extreme V shape. It's odd, but doesn't bother me.

Great find. As long as theyre not blue, im all in.
Funny. Every now and then that word (patina) pops up when i'm listening to musicians talk.
I have Dupuytren's Contracture in 5 of my 8 fingers. I am considering buying a cheap guitar just to see what I can do with it.
I got Swan Neck Deformity 5 fingers with a messed up knuckle on the ring finger of my right hand. I been playing finger style since about 19 and 64. My first surgery is January 11. Wish you well Allen.
I bought a Jackson at Guitar Center over 20 years ago, I still have mine nothing wrong with it
Yeah, that's basically what I said to another dude in the comments. Guitar-snobs looking down on Jackson are top-gringe.
Once you go Jackson you never go back son
I bought a Jackson js22 from a pawnshop last month. Black matte finish. It was $110 out the door. It is my second favorite guitar of the 8 i own. Just p lays so good.

Yeah....no. Metal screws are never gonna work better than wood screws on wood.

Hey Sean, Happy to see all is well, I would like to know how much one of your strat copy kits will be? Thank You and God Bless You Sean
Very true about the headstock. Becomes a non-issue on guitars with fr locking nut.
I do 🤷♂️ smarter not harder ✌️
O.K. now cut a Locking nut shelf and through bolts and then put a KAHLER vibrato tremelo onto it.
Your friend Trey Rocks ! You always surprise me. That blue guitar Rocks !
I'll take it for that price in a heartbeat love the necks on those old Jackson and Charvels don't get any better love your show brother Godbless you
Jacksons are top notch end to end .... Always worth the price!
Glad to see you fixed that gem of a guitar!.
Great video! All the Jackson guitars less expensive and really expensive always have really good necks. I have one made in Japan and one made in China and they both have great necks. At least for me, I really like them.
Very cool!
That guitar is really boss! Did Jackson wax their Humbuckers? I think it is so cool that you showed us how to do it. I really wish I had a pair of those Seymour Duncan’s. They are too nice to go on my plywood Silvertone special.
Can you put a link to the used section.... I just CAN NOT find them😢😂😮😅😢
I’m an old school Jackson lover from the late 80s myself. I remember falling for a cherry red Jackson at the guitar store when I was taking lessons back then and never did end up buying one. Might have to end up biting the bullet and doing it thanks to this video
Awesome deal! My wife got me a Gretsch double jet with mini humbuckers for Christmas
I can't even remember 50 years old, I'm 64....
I took the wood file to mine and filed down some of that edge by my forearm it adds to that arch top killer guitar for the project love your videos thanks for sharing
Nice axe! Happy New Year!
It's so crazy to me that affordable guitars from about a decade ago all had flamed maple necks
Sounding like Mister Joe Walsh there my friend. Good Ol' Funk a licious!!!
Made my day. THANK YOU ❤.
Me too! James Gang ?
Totally Sweet. Perfect price.
now I've seen this Jackson I've fell in love with them !!!!! cheers !! im going to get one
I'd say you got a smokin' good deal , I've bought Jackson necks for that price !! Great tip , on how to wax the pick ups , and clean them !
Binding on the neck and headstock is cool! It's probably a basswood body, which is an excellent tone wood!
😉☮ ~Rob
I own a Jackson. And it plays nice and the fret work is awesome 💯. And you can't go wrong with D addirio. Strings. 9 to 42. That's what I use 💪🔥🎸💯
What’s the return policy on a used guitar on Amazon?
Great little grove you guys had going. Loved it!!
Thanks Man, I was going to shop for this one, test and see how is goes, Thanks for the introduction, Right On !!!👍
Man that was a great guitar and one hell of a jam at the end. Great video!
Nice little diddy there at the end and before. What a deal SMG!
