This was a nice episode! I like the idea of more educational content because that's actually how I found you, via your old beginner videos. But those sure are old by now, so a new take on those sounds like a good plan to me. Also with seeing how many people are currently coming into climbing and probably are also looking for advice on youtube.
just adding on: it was good to see someone process through the content; something that most educational content omit for the sake of focusing on teaching content itself. Maybe a blend of the two
Yes, you should make this compilation dude, I agree!... it would be really great to watch it with fancy edits on it !😂.... Great educational video by the way!! 💪
This method is like learning to play an instrument(your body is the instrument of your will), you have to play so slow that you hit every note perfect, then speed it up. You could apply this to basically anything skill related in life. Great video and I hope we get to see some of those technique videos ;)
I really enjoy these kinds of videos. A few comments from one of your Canadian fans: 1-Your ideas seem to be consistently great ideas, so trust your gut and make the videos you think we'll like, because odds are, you're right! 2-I think it would be really cool if you sometimes showed us a full picture of the boulder we're about to see, especially when it's going to take a few attempts, or where projecting/figuring out the beta is important. I know I personally would really enjoy looking at this picture, even if I have to pause the video to look at it, and try to read the boulder myself and then see if whoever is climbing uses the same beta I'm reading. Again, I love your videos, keep them coming!!
Really, really like this idea of focusing on not re-gripping ! Really helped me be a bit more conscious of where my centre of gravity is going while training. Its so easy to fall into sloppy form! Thanks for this one!:D
This was great! I love how you took only a few tips and really focused on that in detail instead of throwing out a bunch of general tips. I also liked how you had Tor as your model because he's not someone who's already mastered the practice. C9ol stuff!
Hey Eric and crew. I enjoyed the video, I understand the thoughts behind videos not being good enough etc. But what I really enjoyed about this was the fact that Thor was learning the whole time, and you could follow along and watch as he made certain breakthroughs. He explained his thought process the whole time, watching Magnus (place holder name) explain this stuff doesn't really get the point across because it's perfect execution every time. The growth in learning is very important for training/educational videos in my opinion. Keep it up boys.
I like this a lot! It's very approachable compared to some educational climbing stuff. Seeing you guys talk through it and having Thor actually talk about his learning is great.
It’s fun watching guys like Thor try hard, like it’s fun trying hard yourself. But I try to spend a fair bit of my time focusing on climbing well, and I enjoy seeing a video that focuses of that. I love that floating feeling of climbing really efficiently, and I love watching it, too.
Wow thanks! Really cool to see the kind of content so quickly after you asked what people wanted, and several of us commented for training videos for intermediate level climbers. Thanks guys!
Hey Eric I really like the way you put this video together. I think it was a awesome tutorial video in a real casual manner and not just another learning class like format. I really like how Thor was relaxed in describing what he did wrong and showing the right way to climb the route. High fives, great job done.
Thanks for this video, it’s brilliant. I spent all night at the wall after watching the vid without repositioning and it was really interesting. It brought lots more flow to my climbing and got me really thinking about movement, efficiency and perfect footwork. I now always do this when training at the indoor boulder wall. I also take an easy problem and see how many holds I can eliminate without regripping. Since then when out on rock my technique and flow has really improved. Predominantly I’m a sport climber and I think this technique has really helped me to climb efficiently especially as you start to get pumped on a long route. I really enjoyed the discussion you guys were having on camera. It’s exactly the same sort of conversations we have when working out problems. Some problems can really make you think especially when it’s about balance and technique not just power. Also, you two are really nice guys, no egos or macho rubbish, so it’s cool to watch! There are countless slick videos of tough guys and girls sending hard projects, they don’t often show the months of failures and often all you see in the videos is how much power they have, there is no breakdown of the technique used to stick a hold from which I lean nothing except that I’m too weak to climb font 8b! There does seem to be an obsession with training for power at the moment. This winter I had to lay off a bit due to injury and focused on antagonists, general cardio and technique (including this vid) and I’m climbing harder than I ever have. I’d personally be very interested in more vids on analysing balance, efficiency and technique on technical problems such as face climbs and slabs. Above all it was great to watch Thor fail! (Sorry Thor) but watching the process of working out an efficient solution is much more interesting and educational than just showing the send. Well done and thanks from sunny Dorset in England
Yes compilation! I just loved how humbling the re-dos were for Thor since he’s such a bad-ass most of the time. You’re such a marshmallow Thor! Love ya!
Video was clean, well explained and easy to interpret (and put myself in the position). Definitely the right decision to upload! Thanks for the tips, I'll be using them tomorrow night :)
Eric, hands down all the videos as of late has been great but this one really stands out on its own. Most obvious reason being: Thor. But that aside, it was very educational and love the feedback Thor gave after each climb. Would def benefit more these videos/drills!
Loved this vlog just what is needed to inspire our training over winter and work weaknesses. Love the mental challenge of improving technique and breaking bad habits. Looking forward to more, thanks Eric and Thor 🙂
I like this format! It was cool to see someone else (especially charismatic Thor =p) trying this type of training that I also try to do. Also, a compilation would be badass. I think many of us would recognize the sends of yesterday and it'd be fun! =)
I really like this type of video! As someone stated below this kind of educational video is how I found your channel in the first place a long time ago! Its always nice with some new tips and tricks. Definitely going to use this the next climbing session
Absolutely loved this video!!!!! I've been really wanting to improve my climbing especially in my warm up routine. This is so helpful and I'd love to see more like this on how to improve. Cheers!!
I like it Eric, keep doing educational stuff, its nice to see new exercises and I always like the raw videos like this just as much as the ones with polish. It would be nice to have more information on how these sorts of exercises help your climbing, and how to do them in the gym. ❤️❤️❤️
I really liked it. I think it's more interesting and feels much more organic than some of your other educational videos, because the viewer is learning something while watching Tor learn something. We see not only the theory, but one way to implement it. Plus I just get a kick out of seeing Tor :)
this video was really good, my favourite videos are still the shenanigans videos with more of the crew just having fun rather than the more structured videos.
i really apprieciate this video. i think im going to focus on it for the next few weeks. I would love to see an educational series full of tips for better training!
This was a great video, guys. Really enjoyed the educational content and thought the quality was good. Looking forward to more educational content on the channel!
Definitely appreciated this, it's good to be reminded that most of the improvement can be achieved without going for the hardest difficulty one can climb. I'd definitely watch more of these at this quality level, it's good enough to get the message across and that's what matters :)
Yes to more educational videos like these (simple & succinct), makes it much easier to recall, focus on, and implement in my next session. And Yes to a compilation video of old content please
Another great video! Was thinking about speed and maintaining a flow as a way of preserving finger strength on overhanging problems today. More overhang tips please!!!
This was an amazing video!! I love the way it mixed a good range of climbing that was interesting to watch with the details that I feel I can apply to my own climbing. I feel like a lot of the purely "how to climb" videos are a lot less interesting to watch and are often so basic that I get a lot less out of them. Keep up the great work!!
I really like this type of video! More of this (and everything else). You guys are on fire lately, amazing quality and enjoyable videos. Miss Nikken though, but at least he's in the background with his trademark grin pretty often. :D
Great episode! I would personally love more educational videos. I only recently started climbing a month ago educational video or not, I've learned a lot from your videos, observing how you move your feet and hands. Would love more of these videos especially ones focused on types of foot placements and how to properly approach grabbing certain holds. Keep it up!!
Reminders and examples of technique or simple practice idea are just as important as "here do X Y Z to train and get swol" type of videos , at least to me. I always enjoy seeing or hearing what other people do behind the scenes to improve themselves bc most of it isn't talked about , its just self imposed goals or challenges.
Not only do I appreciate educational insight and learning new ways to train, I really enjoy watching how that new way of training plays out in a session and how people use it. It’s cool to learn new stuff, but if it’s not relatable enough to be able to apply it, then why share it. And a compilation would be sick!! The nostalgia would be so good.
I really appreciate this video because I feel like there aren't very many intermediate educational climbing videos on youtube. It's all either beginner or advanced, so thank you! I'm guilty of regripping too many times. It's honestly not even something I've ever thought about. So I'm definitely gonna focus on that next session!
Great video Erik (and Tor)! I for one love this type of content and would love to see (and pay for) more content like this. I'm currently training to go from being able to do occasional 6c to do the occasional 7a and would of course love to see videos on how to train for getting to that 7a milestone :)
Thank you so much for the tips. My daughter has recently become obsessed with climbing and I'm having her watch your vids to help her get started with solid advice!
Before your blurb at the end I didn't even consider this an educational video, per-say. I did learn a ton from it and realize that this is the type of content I would love to see more of though. I think if you show how you guys are training and what you're doing to get stronger (climbing technique-wise, and strength, power, and flexibility wise as well), then people will learn from it regardless. I think I more enjoy seeing all you crushers fail and learn how to get better, then succeed, than just watching people crush everything they try. So yes, love this type of video.
This kind of educational video is great. Maybe 2-3 sentences more on the purpose and distinction between exercise. But overall still 11/10, dude :) I would like to see compilations as well, but only when there is a clear overview about where is content is from and what the time frame is. This could be titles like "Best of Nikken Sents 2019" or "Best of Crimps 2019".
This format was great for an educational video. It feels like I was still watching a normal episode and didn't realize that I was learning at the same time.
Personally, I think this was a great episode. While it might not have been quite what you envisioned, it was still educational. I can't speak for beginners but as an experienced climber, it was fully understandable. It illustrated things I already know but don't necessarily always think about and provided decent examples of right and wrong. I love the idea of the educational/teaching episodes. Not sure you need to go so far as to put 80hrs into each one but this was a good benchmark. Keep the content coming homie
Just keep doing what you’re doing. Awesome content, great personalities, great climbing. Just don’t go the way some other UA-camrs go and start deviating from what your about. Keep it up guys!
I liked it. It's nice on lots of level. No only to show a good technique for improving, but it's interesting to see the break down of the little things that make a difference between climbs.
The change and progression of fluid footwork and body posture on the first boulder was pretty impressive. Im gonna have to show my friends how to footwork like a sticky god ;) loved the video
Hey Erik! I think this video was awesome, I Actually bumped into you when you and Tor were filming this episode and tried out some of these training methods with you guys :D They are awesome and I've continued to practice the climbing without re-gripping and it has really helped, especially on the crimpier boulders!! Great tips
Thanks for the vid! Keep up good work! I just tried the no-re-gripping routine in my gym session, and felt exactly like Thor: new sensations, sobering look on my gripping precision, and that it's actually hard to do. It requires a lot more preparation before the move, and maybe this is the most important educational point. Two issues though: 1) for me, it makes sense to do so for dynamic moves (static ones are much easier to not regrip) and 2) I have seen many athletes regrip, like Stefano Ghisolfi. I believe that it is very important to adjust the grip before loading to avoid injuries. Thanks again, and keep us posted!
I enjoyed the video, especially because it's not just for beginners. Also glad you're switching it up with the music, I kinda hated that poppy dubstep you had going on for a long time :p
Always trying to boulder like this as it also looks way more smoothly instead of just regrapping every hold. I'm also seeing this behavior quite much on "better" (harder grades) climbers they often get the job done quite quickly but when i (sometimes just trying) climb the same problem, i don't feel that much exhausting and strengthfull movement which they needed. Also a very funny game is, to touch the next hold first with your nose. Feels strange, looks funny but increases your feeling for positioning and footwork a lot (i think) -> Maybe you guys could check out this game in one of your next vlogs? :-)
Eric - this is great. I'm not sure I want to know everything that's going through Thor's head... but reflection on how to climb better... seeing the "mistakes" - gold dust! Top quality insight. Now - what would we learn if two climbers were comparing their strength's, weaknesses, and struggles on the same route - would they have the same issues? Would they solve the route the same way? Would they have different ways to acheive thier "flow" - their perfect pattern? Keep up the inspiring work
Great idea for what I feel like is a perfect video for intermediate climbers like myself who don’t want to form bad habits before they become the wrong form of muscle memory! Also I vote yes on a compilation from early sends from the past!
This was a nice episode! I like the idea of more educational content because that's actually how I found you, via your old beginner videos. But those sure are old by now, so a new take on those sounds like a good plan to me. Also with seeing how many people are currently coming into climbing and probably are also looking for advice on youtube.
Dude, this is one of the best educational videos for bouldering mindset/technique I've seen. Like seriously.
just adding on: it was good to see someone process through the content; something that most educational content omit for the sake of focusing on teaching content itself. Maybe a blend of the two
Yes, you should make this compilation dude, I agree!... it would be really great to watch it with fancy edits on it !😂.... Great educational video by the way!! 💪

Be brave and not let the perfectionism get the better of you! Quality is great and I would love to see this compilation!

It's a big task to take on more videos like this. I would love to see as many educational videos as you can put out. Thank you
A really good training/learning video. Just focusing on a few concepts and nice reflections by Thor. Thank you for sharing!
It's amazing how much he improved just by not re-griping. I'll definetly try it !
Great vid guys, and a pat on the back to whomever chose the music.
This video is awesome! Love the idea of more educational stuff with you and thor!

Alltså älskar detta ! Alla tips är värdefulla 😻 superkul och se när ni sänder också 🔝

This was a great video, guys. Really enjoyed the educational content and thought the quality was good. Looking forward to more educational content on the channel!
I am totally looking forward to more educational videos! I appreciate that you wanna do them in top-notch quality, but just go for it man. =)
This video was so insightful for the shortcomings of my own training. Thank you
Please keep them coming!

Awesome video and the formatting was concise, thanks for the info! Sending good vibes from the Rocky Mountains!

I've got a little "get strong" group I train with every week and I'm definitely going to suggest we try these out at our next sesh!

So yes, love this type of video.
Thoooooor !
Yes to the compilation!
Loved this Eric, It's inspirational and Next time I go to my local bouldering gym I will try to work on this as well!
This kind of educational video is great. Maybe 2-3 sentences more on the purpose and distinction between exercise. But overall still 11/10, dude :)
I would like to see compilations as well, but only when there is a clear overview about where is content is from and what the time frame is. This could be titles like "Best of Nikken Sents 2019" or "Best of Crimps 2019".

One of the best videos I've seen on how to improve my climbing technique. Eager to see other educational videos like this in the future. Great job.
I liked this, definitely going to incorporate these two climbing exercises.
The repetition, refinement, and discussion was great.
Great stuff I need all the tips I can get :)
Love Thor's dances when he finishes a route - please create a funny montage of the dances!
Personally, I think this was a great episode. While it might not have been quite what you envisioned, it was still educational. it was actually really cool, just giving us concepts to play with.
a few different things to challenge us.
10/10
This was a great video! I am going to try this on Thursday! I would love to see a new series of education videos!
PLS DO A SPECIAL WITH OLD FOOTAGE!!! Love the "educational" way too!
Just keep doing what you’re doing. Awesome content, great personalities, great climbing. Just don’t go the way some other UA-camrs go and start deviating from what your about. Keep it up guys!
more flashing lightnings when tor hits the last hold, or growling thunder when he fails. nothing more to ad, great video as always.
I liked it. It's nice on lots of level. No only to show a good technique for improving, but it's interesting to see the break down of the little things that make a difference between climbs.
I want this educational series so much, this video was also very educating and in good quality :D
Please continue making videos like this, it is great.
Great tips
I'm super psyched to try the no-regrip thing tomorrow in the gym!
So yes! I liked the video a lot
More tips and tutorials! This was great, and I can't wait for what you consider better!
So glad you posted it, Eric. Super useful.
This was fantastic! Would love to see more like it.
Seems like a cool idea, I liked the format of this.
Awesome! Great reminder to try and climb perfectly on easier grades and not just power through. Thx for posting 👍
What a sick video!! I can't wait to try these exercises at my local gym, thanks for the content team!! ❤
Really enjoyed this episode guys. This helps a lot!
I enjoyed the video, especially because it's not just for beginners. Also glad you're switching it up with the music, I kinda hated that poppy dubstep you had going on for a long time :p
Great episode. I also really liked seeing the lead climbing mixed in recently.
Could always be cooler editing wise, but this was great! Especially showing the difference between Thor in balance and off balance.
Super helpful! Thanks for posting!
This was excellent! Thanks for the post! More climbing please!!! Anything you post is gym motivation so keep them coming!!!
Keep the educational stuff coming! This was great.
nice video and nice idea of making education videos. I‘d love to see more!
Thank you! More educational videos please!
I love the educational videos, I didn't sense anything "inferior" about the video quality I just loved the content!
love the reflection that thor gives after each attempt
Yes to more educational content and yes to coolest crush compilations please! Thanks Eric!
Me explaining life 4:54
:)
Dude, your comment cracked me up
Hahaha
Really cool video, different than usual, however we didn't see you climb Eric. But yes more educational videos to engage more beginner climbers
Fantastic video! Moar educational vids plz. They are probably a lot more work than just the regular ones but us beginners need THIS.
loved it, that might have been me personal Thor bias though.
Yes on the compilation. Sounds like a lot of work though, don't overwork yourself.
I liked this! I want more because I've been plateauing and need more exercises to improve.
