It's heritage but transitions seamlessly to the office, it's tough as nails, has a lifetime warranty, and hey, Jack Ryan wears it. Here's my love letter to the Filson Journeyman Backpack.

@stridweise after watching that video for the 10th time I finally pulled the trigger and got a filson journeyman (in cinder though), I love it already from day 1. Thank you for that review and all the stuff you're posting on your channel. Love to watch your channel
I bought the backpack after watching it on the show too. Love the bag its held up very well and the leather is starting to break in nicely.
Glad to know I wasn't the only one haha!
I was gonna go to bed until I saw this pop-up. Glad to see more content from you, Nick!
Hey thanks dude! Sorry to keep you from your pillow haha
@@Stridewise You're not alone, I saw Jack Ryan in the title, so of course, I had to watch it. I'm a fan of the Hamilton he wears, and I got back into rowing after seeing the first episode.
@@thechief043 haha that's great. i'm doing a video on my Hamilton watch soon!
@@Stridewise excellent!
@stridewise just got mine. Love it! Thanks for the thorough review.
How is it so far? I’m thinking of getting it but is imported now
I actually purchased this last week and just got it today! My husband shamed me so hard because of the price. I'm the type of person to purchase things for the long haul. PLUS....it looks so frickin cool. I actually thought about it for weeks because $395.00 is alot but as they say quality over quantity. I got tired of replacing my $50.00 backpack every 2 years. Great review by the way. I purchased solely because of this review. I was sold after the intro😂😂😂!
How’s it held up?
Nice review Nick. I can’t believe everything you got in that backpack, especially those huge sneakers of yours!
Yeah it doesn't look big but it's the perfect size.
Great Video! Thank you for posting. Can't wait to see more 👍
You're a spam account, right?
One brand definitely worth mentioning when it comes to backpacks is Trakke. Made in Scotland with UK-sourced materials, including dry-finish waxed canvas.Their Bannoch model sells for £200, but the buckle closure certainly isn’t for everybody.
Trakke is pretty cool, but I hate the ostentatious branding on the front. I immediately dismissed it because of that, even though I know everything else about it is top notch
As a daily backpack user that is thinking about switching over to a vintage coach bag this pack has me thinking differently, thanks for another solid product review‼️😎👍💼🎒
Thanks man, glad you're on a journey for quality! Check out this article to get a lay of the land of all the good backpacks like this stridewise.com/waxed-canvas-backpacks-filson-alternatives/
Love that you're branching out into other types of menswear (or whatever you'd consider a backpack like this) - keep it up!
Thanks man! Hoping to do some leather bags too.
@@Stridewise Have you ever seen the Archeon line of Osprey backpacks? I remember some boot video you did where certified sustainability was a big concern for you, and this entire line of backpacks (definitely less "classic rugged american", but still fantastic looking) is made of 100% sustainable materials. Just picked up the 45L one for rock climbing, might be worth a video review! Here's a link to the 25L one, but they do make them in quite a few sizes and styles. www.osprey.com/us/en/product/archeon-25-men-s-ARCHEON25MS20.html
I’ve been using Mountainback’s Simple Canvas Backpack for the last 5 years. It’s 24 ounce waxed green canvas. It has a 100-year warranty and is slightly cheaper than the bag in the video. It is large, but hangs smaller when you don’t have a lot in it. It’s also super comfortable and only looks better with age. It’s a Texas based company as well.
Oh you mean Saddleback? That's a very cool backpack, too! I remembered it being over $400 so I didn't include it in the video, but I see I was wrong about that. Really glad you like it! I've got one of their briefcases.
Stridewise Could you consider doing a video on a good duffle or weekend/carry on type bag? I’ve been trying to find a good one that has this kind of vibe. I have a favorite, but I’ve bought nothing so far. It would be great to know your thoughts.
@@RonnieMosher Honestly, I've been using Filson's large duffle haha. I got it on eBay for a hundred 200-something. I love it
Mountain back is made in Mexico
I see you rocking those grant stones Chelsea’s, I’m looking forward for that review, I have my eye on them.
I love the backpack and noticed it too on jack ryan but I’m gonna have to wait a few years until my nobull waxed canvas backpack wears out, pretty amazing too although more sporty than heritage looking.
Wow, good eye, Carlos! Hey the Nobull bag is an interesting option, I love their shoes. Think it could carry a kettlebell or two? I've been looking for a bag that could do that.
I do have a question actually, you do mention that the laptop sleeve doesn't really have padding but is there ANY sort of padding on the bottom of the bag or is it just a layer of tin cloth? I have a bag that has just thin fabric on the bottom, no padding whatsoever, and I always feel when stuff inside hits the ground as I set the bag down.
Love the look the color it have all the right features that looking for it’s a must 😮
Ayyye, a Filson review. A lot of the time when people see a nice looking bag or wool coat in TV shows/movies, they'll end up finding that it's made by Filson. Love their stuff. EDIT: They also have an amazing warranty and will repair your stuff for you, even 20+ years from now (and the warranty is for the _item_ and not the _person_ that originally bought it).
Yeah my leather handle broke and they fixed it up real quick. Not totally sure if that's a good or a bad experience but I liked it!
Would these backpacks be good for carrying a lot of books and such? I want to start hiking, which this backpack if for outdoors, but honestly if it’s good for school I can use it for both!
Great review. I came here for this shoe reviews but would love to see more bag reviews, especially leather ones. Like the new clean wall too.
Haha thanks Michael, I'm renting an office now for these #fancy And I have like 6 leather bags ready to review, I just wanted to get a leather expert to check them out on camera but the pandemic kiboshed it. But they will happen!
Stridewise I wouldn’t have expected anything less from you. The kind of details that make these reviews so interesting. Thanks.
Hi, love the video and the shots of the bag out in the streets with a good paperback - something very evocatively cool about that. Just a side question - what brand are your long sleeve Henley T-shirts? Thanks! 😎
glad you like it man! i still use this backpack all the time. my henleys are from buck mason usually but the blue one is j crew
Best review of the bag so far. Very in depth. Now I’m just deciding I’ll get it in green or brown. Thanks! You earned yourself a sub :)
Would love to see you do a Jack Ryan style series. Haven't seen one to date and it would be great to know where to find pieces that approximate his style.
That would have been a good idea when the new season had just come out, I don't think it's timely enough now haha. But for sure I will do that when s3 comes out Ben!
@@Stridewise Can't wait
Awesome review mate! Quality mens wear review! Keep this up! Even if it makes us buy stuff we don’t need but we think we do haha gonna go broke😂
It's an addiction, Nolan, but a fun one!
Hi, thanks for the review. I’ll like to ask how you maintain this backpack? Do you recoat it for waterproofing? As I’ve never had wax canvas bags
What a nice bag! The price is a deal breaker for me personally, but this video was outstanding
Can't ask for a better comment than this haha, thanks Joe!
hi nick love the review and its nice to see you branching out into other areas. ive seen a few watches on your wrist are are wondering if you are a watch guy too?
Glad you like them, dude. I have 3 watches and I have a video on my Hamilton Field Khaki coming up, although I wouldn't call myself a watch guy. I just have like two casual ones (Hamilton and Tag) and one slightly dressy one (Citizen Eco Watch)
Fantastic review, as always. Thank you.
Thanks Hannibal! This one took a lot of work haha
Your channel deserves more attention lol
I know right. Maybe the algorithm hates my accent??
Take a look at the Vertx Gamut, it has everything but canvas. Take a look any way you might be impresses. Under $200 and does not look tactical. How ever it does contain alot of those options. Plz let me know what you think. I love mine in brown with leather trim.
Filson is the top of the line when we are talking about outdoors gear. Second to none, i own two of those bad boys, one in tin cloth and the other in leather. The leather is really pricey but to me is worth every penny. This are backpacks that you’re grandchildren will inherit and continue to used after many ,many years. They are made with quality like no other.
Yep I've since bought their large duffle and take it with me whenever I travel. I can't tell if I look cool or stupid carrying the Journeyman and the Duffle at the same time, but I don't care!
Why you gotta introduce such an amazing looking bag to a guy on a college budget! Jokes aside, this will probably be something I save up for, no other backpack I've seen does it for me in terms of style like this one does.
Question though, how similar would you say the color of this one is to the green Ojai jacket from Taylor Stitch? That's a piece I was planning to get once spring starts to roll around, but I'm worried about the two pieces conflicting with each other color-wise. Have you tried using them together? Would they conflict with each other? This channel has been an amazing start for a guy like me who's looking to get into heritage style fashion, so thanks!
Already filming cravar briefcase? I'm from Indonesia and a lover of leather craft from here, boots, bags, jackets and also denim (not only leather). I can see you also reviewed several boots from Indonesia. Thank you for supporting Indonesia's product.
Sure! I have a big interest in Indonesia, I find it a fascinating place. Cravar bag review is coming!
Hi, if you love canvas and heritage backpack in green color, you got to check out the goruck GR1 Heritage in Oak or Olive color. It is amazing. I think it‘s better than the Journeyman in many ways.
Currently last day today to get one at 30% discount with Filson. Im debating whether to take the plunge and torn between cinder and otter green color. Ultimately the deciding factor is how I keep hearing over and over the quality has gone down since going overseas, stitching issues with the straps and grab handle and removing the leather strap that held the straps once found in older models of the USA made version.
Would recommend the track bannoch bag, waxed canvas and made in Scotland
oh you mean Trakke! Yeah I like that bag! I don't love the big brand on the front and it's a bit too structured for my tastes, plus it doesn't fit my laptop, but it's well designed.
Billykirk's No. 297 is another waxed canvas backpack that's worth mentioning!
Great video!
it's in the article!
@@Stridewise Ahh! Shouldn't have doubted you!
Love the review. As much as I love this vintage aesthetic, I think I'm gonna get the Filson Dryden for ease of care.
Fair enough! Been curious about that one
I have the Dryden and wish I went with this one. If you have the money it’s the better bag. The main compartment for the Dryden is so frustrating to open!
@@IAMLEGIT2323 I've had it for a couple months, and the opening is a bit frustrating. I just wanted to avoid a waxed bag (price wasn't one of my concerns), as much as I appreciate the aesthetic. I'm happy with it though.
Nice pack and review. You'd think for the price it would be made in the US though!
Check out Day Owl. made from recycled plastic bottles, great pockets, and super well made. Good price and lifetime warranty. maybe not as outdoorsy looking and more hipster vibe but still a great bag
you should do a review on the Luke Case Waxed Canvas Backpack, I just bought one and am waiting for delivery but it checks a lot of the same boxes for under 100 USD. I just havent seen any reviews on it yet.
I have bought a ton of Filson over the years and have never regretted a single purchase. I have Tin Cloth and Cover Cloth gear that I’ve worn regularly for 20-25 years. Still in great shape. When I sent a lightweight rain coat in for repairs, after about a dozen years of hard wear, they couldn’t fix it (don’t even make the parts anymore) so they gave me a generous amount of refund, applied to the replacement purchase.
That's fantastic, Craig! I love hearing these stories. My leather carry handle broke and they fixed that for me no questions asked. I'm pumped to review their Mackinaw coat later.
Letting slip your height and weight spared me heaps of distress on all kinds of purchases, haha. Much appreciated.
Great looking pack but not being able to cinch the straps on the fly would drive me crazy. Thanks for the video.
I know this is late to the party. Have you tried TOPO Designs bags? I own 2 (daypack for every day and light pack for gym) and love them both.
Im not sure if these bags are as tough as it is often being claimed. I was planning to buy myself a rugged, tough, durable backpack. I´ve had quite a lot of bags that lasted me many many years. I have one leather bag from Fossil that is now about 16 years old and still holds up perfectly well no tears rips and it looks better by the day. I have a few other bags: A Jansport backpack a big hiking Rucksack from the german brand Tatonka bought many years ago for university and several other bags and backpacks. None of these bags actually ever really had trouble and held up exceptionally well. There are actually not even holes or any tears in them. The only problem: I don´t own a backpack that is durable but also looks cool. I like a rugged Americana style and therefore was looking at leather and waxed canvas backpacks. Reading and hearing a lot about Filson and have people say how you can hand their stuff over to your children made me impressed because i wanna buy something that will last me forever and that i can identify with. So right before ordering myself a Filson backpack because i was convinced i had found the perfect brand for me i found this youtube video (Link here: ua-cam.com/video/gH7YVJwWi8c/v-deo.html ) which actually had someone review one of their bags without just giving impressions right after buying but whos review was actually based on usage. In the video you suddenly see how this guy shows you the bag was starting to tear down at the bottom after just two years. I gotta say that when i saw that after only two years of wear a backpack that is supposed to "last a lifetime" or at least a long time (which it says in Filsons description) and supposedly has one of the most durable materials on the market tearing apart is absolutely disappointing. If my 30 dollar Jansport lasts 15 years without barely any damage then this is really odd. 2 years is nothing for a backpack, it´s the time i´d expect from a really cheap backpack to tear but we´re in the 300/400 Dollar range with these bags. I know there are a lot of people out there that just love the philosophy of this company but nobody in the world can tell me that a backpack for this price ripping after two years is justified. I´ve had many Poly/Nylon/Leather backpacks from which some were really cheap but none (except one which i had stuck on a screw and ripped cuz i pulled it) of them ever ripped or teared down at the bottom after just two years. Does anybody here have similiar experience or can give me an thoughts or advice on this?
You did it again, another great review... well that intro is something new compared to your usual reviews... it’s awesome nonetheless... 🤘🏻
Thanks Sazrul! Yeah this one was fun to put together haha
Have you checked out Filson's Oil Finish Rucksack for $195? Thank you so much for this review very helpful..
Walking to an office job in NYC dressed like Sir Edmund Hillary is GOALS.
the goal is to be a combination of Edmund Hillary and an 18th century train conductor
Its a beautiful looking bag. However, we are living in such an advanced society regarding products/manufacturering that there an unlimited amount of options when considering a bag. Unfortunately, I enjoy a good bag but i have several. I would buy and add this to the bags that i already own which cater more to an urben environment. On the down size I'm 5' 5" at 170 lbs husky build so it may not be as suitable for me but i would have to make the purchase to find out. Enjoyed the vid.
Question, I’m looking at the Filson Cruiser down vest. I’m right in the middle between large and extra-large, should I go a little bigger so I can put a bigger sweater underneath or buy the small if it’s precisely
Filson runs a bit big so I'd get large if I were you
I'm a woman, height about 5'4"
I saw the review put up on the screen said Filson wouldn't put extra holes on the bag straps for her, which is a bummer. But you should still be able to go to a shoe cobbler of some sort, they will most likely have a leather punch to do that.
I want the bag, and it looks like I'll most likely have to do that with mine.
Yeah, super easy to get new holes put in. Good luck, Chrischris!
Nice pack for sure. I agree with the pay once cry once approach to getting stuff. Any chance on doing an over night bag?
I think so! My favorite is this one right now but there re always more to review: www.tannergoods.com/collections/bags/products/koru-rucksack-pacific-moss?tap_s=732078-499eba&tap_a=14772-0d20fa
*buy once, cry once, lol
I bought an Osprey bag. Back when they were all built in the US & is guaranteed for life. It’s about the same size but, I don’t use it because it’s too small. However, it was considerably cheaper even adjusting 4 inflation
Nice, what kind?
Nice bag & review. If I had a use for it I probably wouldn’t hesitate in buying one. Seems to be a good buy (lifetime warranty, heavy canvas) when you consider the price for some of the garbage out there.
Yeah, it really is. You're basically paying for a backpack you'll own for life. It's not that much when you think about it like that, especially given how cool it looks.
Filson luggage generally, in spite of the prices, represents great value for money as one will never need to replace it. Frankly, I am also impressed by the Jack Ryan prop department as it's exactly the sort of thing that JR would buy....ridiculously practical and, in the long term, economical.
How is this bag practical in any sense?
Thoughts on the Ship John Waylon pack?
No longer made in USA, and they replaced the leather strip in the back with material, but still charge $395,its a shame
Hi great review! Can I ask what is the watch that you are wearing with black face and strap? 👍
That's my Tag Formula 1!
The outside snap pocket in the front of the bag where you kept your wallet, any concern when walking around the city or airports ,etc. that someone could easily open it and steal your stuff? Also do your hands get the wax residue on them when you touch the bag?
I wouldn't say the front pocket is the most secure place on Earth if you're in a crowd, it opens fairly easily. I don't get the wax on me, I can't quite remember if I got some on me when it was new.
I'd also probably enjoy a workout wear review but I know that would be a huge departure
Yeah, the thing is my day job is working at a fitness website so I'd be REAL good at those reviews Caleb, but quite a departure indeed...
I imagine that since you noticed the backpack he’s wearing, you DEFINITELY had to notice his boots. While I was watching this series, I see there are a couple of frames where they have an almost feature like, close up shot of his boots but I still couldn’t pinpoint what exact boots he’s wearing. What boots are they? Any info or a possible video on his boots?
Hey Bruton, I was always surprised Amazon didn't have a feature to tell you where to buy what he was wearing, they could make a mint! The consensus seems to be that he's wearing Chippewa Apaches.
Nice! I like it! I dress similarly, but I do not wear jeans. I am addicted to Carhartt Men's Ripstop Cargo Work Pants.
A real workin man! I dig your username btw haha
@@Stridewise I am a metal fabricator by trade. I am like you as I would rather pay more for something of quality than buy one every year or two. It is just being frugal. Do you own any American Giant apparel? I got one of their classic full zip hoodies a year ago and it is well worth the money, check them out if have not yet. Thank you for taking the time to make such an informative channel!
Well Nick it's your fault I just ordered one of these backpacks! 😁 You've convinced me on a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers too, but nearly impossible to get them in Australia at the moment so hopefully in the near future.
You got em yet?
@@blakedavis2447 literally picked them up this morning! They look great.
@@nathanjenkins2459 very nice! What color?
@@blakedavis2447 amber harness
Worth noting these are imported from Asia. The website states imported.
God that is an awesome backpack. I already own two Frost River packs, great packs but this one seems a couple of notches up from them. Dam, best start saving! Thanks
Filson or Fjallraven.. same kind of bags, which is better?
Surprised no mention of Saddleback's Mountainback line or Duluth Pack.
But Filson is definitely good quality for the money, in most cases.
I was going to mention Duluth but they’re not waxed! Saddleback I thought was too small for the price, but now I see it's actual 18 liters - you're right, I should have mentioned them. I'll add them to the list of alternatives!
I really do not like the button closure on the front pocket. That seems like something that might come undone. And the fact that if it is full, the sides are holes that are very clearly open and potentially something that someone could reach into without me noticing. There is also no way to lock it with a small TSA style lock, which I typically use anytime I have a backpack when travelling or walking around an urban area, as it makes pickpocketing almost impossible. That button seems not secure at all. So if I had this backpack, I would never use the front pocket, which is a problem, because I would want to use the front pocket.
these are really good points! I'll keep them in mind for future videos. Even when the front pocket is bulging I don't think you can fit a hand in there, but I totally get the fear of pickpockets. A lot of the other options I mentioned (more here stridewise.com/waxed-canvas-backpacks-filson-alternatives/) have belt closures that makes it more secure.
Can you please review Jansport PLEASANTON BACKPACK
Great video! Could you ID your black parka at 6:59?
Alas, I got that in a Chinese supermarket in Shanghai 12 years ago lol, it is no longer made. I wear the Sierra Parka from Taylor Stitch now.
Worth noting that the leather will start to crack after a while. To prevent that, buy some leather conditioner from Filson and apply it on Day One. I have a couple of Filson bags and the one that I take fishing definitely needed this treatment.
love the yellow version as well, but try fjallraven bag, surprisingly tough light and comfortable
Fjallraven don't have waxed canvas, do they? I'm not a fan of the branding either, but they're good high tech bags!
Also I should have mentioned this comes in tan, oops
@@Stridewise no they don't, they are wax-able material but do not age beautifully as waxed canvas
National Geographic rack sack is definitely a cheap alternative, but small volume
For the price, I'll go for the Saddleback Leather Company - Mountainback series of canvas backpacks.
I saw that backpack but I just don't think it's as good looking. To each their own, though, Adrian!
Gee thanks I just spent almost 400 bucks on a pack I prob need. Great review. I decided to treat myself after a really rough and weird year.
Dude you won't regret it. I just bought a Filson bag for a buddy and he's over the moon. The most fun is looking at pictures of old bags - they only get better! Congrats on the buy.
I've had one of these (the tan one) for a couple years now and I love it. I've put it through the ringer with no issues, its truly tough as nails. The only cons I have are I wish it had is an outside pocket for a water bottle and my back can get sweaty on hot days but that's expected considering the materials its made out of. I also have their padded computer bag and its on par with the backpack. Both should outlive me. If anyone is looking to buy look on eBay. I got both bags new for about 2/3 of msrp.
Just got mine today and I love it but wondering if your grab handle has held up well it’s the only part of the bag that worries me
@@ImmaculateRap No issues that I can see, and I use the handle like throwing a shot put when I get home
@@rob43 haha I love to hear this. The guy who made this video said his ended up coming off but maybe that’s just a fluke. Gonna keep using mine aggressively. Called their warranty hotline and they said they’ll put it back if it ever does come off, takes over a month tho
Good video. I’ve had this bag for years and love it as well. Hot tip - I asked Filson to send me some extra snaps and they were happy to do so (for free). I put them on the inside (main compartment) pocket underneath the zippered keys etc pocket. I noticed it hangs open a lot and it bugged me. The two snaps there keep it closed and match the rest of the bag too thanks to those extra snaps. Cheers.
Hey that's great! Always impressed by these tales of Filson's customer service. That's interesting you don't like that flap haha, though I guess you're right it seems kind of functionless if you can't close it. Glad you've got this bag too!
Nice review, you should look in to Fjällräven backbags very similar and very though
you know people keep saying this but i can't see a model that's similar to this one - what would you recommend?
@@Stridewise I would reccomend
Fjällräven RUCKSACK NO. 21 MEDIUM
Or
Fjällräven KÅNKEN NO. 2 LAPTOP 15"
Both have the similar style and colour
Ive looked at FIlson gear for Upland hunting and the prices are nuts. Orvis makes similar gear for more affordable prices.
For a hundred bucks cheaper yea. I don't think Orvis bags look as good but that's a fine alternative!
Filson has the Journeyman back in stock now! Imported though... and they didn't even lower the price.
Yeah I had this whole talk with them about it, they said if they didn't put it overseas they would have increased the price so I guess we should be grateful for it being the same price but made overseas?
@@Stridewise maybe a comparison video between yours and the new Vietnam version?
Hey guys, if anyone wants this bag but just can’t afford it, try the American retro backpack by More Than a Backpack. I have that one and the Filson. While I will say the Filson has a better feel of quality, the American Retro is very very similar in look and feel!
Any chance of a review of any of the Nutsac products lol
I did a mini review here! stridewise.com/waxed-canvas-backpacks-filson-alternatives/ Might try them out for a proper review down the road
I have the nutsac satchel great quality
Does the leather part of the shoulder straps cut or rub into your sides at all when carrying a heavier load?
No, only the bottom half of the strap is leather, the part that's on your shoulders is canvas/moleskin
8 months later, still thinking about this backpack.
Dude that's so me, haha, I spent so long thinking about it before pulling the trigger
@@Stridewise I can’t get myself to do it yet. It would suit so me so well. Need to fit a water bottle, snacks, a change of clothes, sometimes a laptop for my work. (I work for Nisolo btw, a brand you reviewed!) Do you love your bag still?
@@UserLev I do! I'm in WV right now and brought it out with me and the twill duffle. It's so fun using them both at once! Matchy but manly haha. It fits all the things you want! The Dryden backpack is a bit bigger, less heritagey though.
Hi Nisolo! Let me know if y'all start doing Goodyear welted boots
@@Stridewise Definitely. I looked at the Dryden but the Journeyman calls to me just a *little* more. A bit more versatile IMO. I’ll let you know when I pull the trigger! Also I.E. GYW boots, I’m trying so hard bro 😂 We have one GYW boot! I’m pushing for it too!
@@Stridewise Update: I pulled the trigger and bought myself a Journeyman!
I have been eyeing their briefcases for a while. It's always tough to buy these things when you are in Canada, especially considering we are just next door.
Interesting to know you know you have regular and sunglasses. How do you wear sunglasses - prescription lenses or over contacts? I have a pair of prescription sun glasses from Warby Parker. It's still a pain as you have to still carry your regular glasses with you. I tried contacts for a while and found it's not my thing.
I have prescription sunglasses from Warby Parker and have no non-prescription ones, though I need some because I do like to wear contacts. I have a leather Filson briefcase and shall review it, Nikhil!
@@Stridewise Looking forward to that.
They are a bit expensive at £435 for an 18 litre bag, even the closest ripstop nylon bag costs £235.
Duluth Packs makes a nice roll top pack, lifetime guarantee as well
Yeah Duluth Packs are legit! Not quite as good looking (obviously subjective) and not waxed either I think, but I like them. Better value, too.
I'm wondering, now that this video is a couple years old, how you're still feeling about the bag, AND, would you still pay the price now knowing that it's no longer made in the USA?? I want this bag so bad, but am so bummed that I'm paying the same price it's always been, but now it's imported. Thanks!! Love the channel.
Thanks Jason! This is still my go to backpack, though I just got a leather backpack from satchel & page that I love as well. Hard to say if I'd get the Journeyman now that it's not made in the US. I think when buying Filson you always have to admit to yourself you're overpaying, once you make peace with that maybe the origin of the product doesn't matter as much because you already know you're throwing away a chunk of money!
@@Stridewise Oh!! I hope to see a review on the new backpack. Thanks man.
Bought an extremely similar bag from Amazon for £78 from a company called 7am. No it’s not Filson but it’s damn close and almost a fifth of the price. I figured if I fall in love, when it dies I’ll get the Filson as a replacement to last the test of time.
link?
If you can sew at all you can buy a 12 foot by 6 foot sheet of fire retardant waxed canvas online for $100 + shipping. There’s plenty of colors including OD green
I cannot sew
Not the same pack anymore, it’s not made in USA, and they replaced the leather strip that holds the shoulder straps with cloth, that is a shame. I ordered it, and I’m returning it, since the quality has gone down but the price hasn’t.
May I ask where you got your fantastic blue henley from?
Oh thanks David! That one's from J Crew
@@Stridewise thanks man.
Hey Nick, where do you buy your henleys?
This blue one is from J Crew, all my others are from Buck Mason
@@Stridewise Thanks was wondering the same thing
No love for Duluth pack?
I won’t accept a EDC bag that wasn’t between 28-32 liters. Smaller maybe but, definitely not larger. Pleated works w/compression straps. But, 28-32 is my personal sweet spot. I have smaller sturdy bags but, I rarely employ them
Totally fair! I've got this and a 37L one, wouldn't say no to something in betwen...
Have you checked Bexar Goods Land backpack? Meets a lot of your criteria.
Wow, 24oz canvas! Thanks for turning me onto them I'll follow them.
I kind of want to find a reason to buy this, but I just have to admit that I've got enough with my original briefcase, small field bag, small rolling duffle and medium duffle bag.
www.dhgate.com/product/backpack-retro-waterproof-oil-wax-canvas/776536756.html well I found these knockoffs for cheap!
The best backpack I’ve ever owned is the north face surge II. It got me through middle and high school.
I wish I could say I wouldn't spend that for that kinda bag, but that be a lie I totally would if I lived in a city or worked somewhere that bag would suffice
Great looking bag and probably the best fit for my lifestyle, but at almost $600 Australian dollars it's way out of my price range, sadly.
Clint Eastwood style video please🙏
Haha I think I want to review Tom Beckbe which I don't think I'll be able to get away with doing that unless I actually trudge into a swampy marsh to hunt fowl
I have the Hamilton khaki field watch he uses on the show.
Nice! I made a video on it: ua-cam.com/video/zc3IJPCe-L8/v-deo.html
