**We've changed the name of this to FN15 instead of the M4A1 because that's more apt. We have re-filmed this with a true Colt 6921 recently using an actual USMC RCO (ACOG TA31) and will publish that instead as the M4A1 Block 1**
One of our GWOT classic U.S. Issued M4A1 clone with a Trijicon TA31 ACOG, stepping it out. (In hind sight we were pretty harsh on the M4’s performance. The rifle actually performed very well for a standard rifle with a mil-spec trigger.)
This same configuration saw a lot of action world-wide with the U.S. Armed Forces in the last two decades. This rifle is still frequently seen in news images and videos. Shot with Fiocchi .223 55grain ball ammunition.
Parameters: 2x shots per target from 150y to 500y, segmented per 50 yds. Shot with Fiocchi .223 55grain ball ammunition.
Trijicon TA31 ACOG 4x32mm

The basic design of this weapon is over fifty years old and it still looks ultra modern, Eugene Stoner was a genius.
Luis Gonzalez that’s because so many weapons to this day continue to be based off of his original design. You can’t name a firearms company that hasn’t made (at least) one AR-15 clone since then.
Yup, actually 61 years old now in 2019. The first Armalite AR-15 prototype was in 1958 and in Dec '59 Colt started production of the AR-15 Model 601.
If you count the original AR-10 prototypes (1954) as the "basic weapon design" then it is 65 years old.
Ain't it funny how lefties blame the presence of these rifles as the cause of mass shootings which is a fairly recent phenomenon? The first civilian semi only Colt SP1's were available starting in 1964. And really before the 2000's decade mass shootings were few and far between.

A lot of questions on the 55gr vs 62gr, .223vs 5.56, I’ll address it here:
1, these old school TA31 ACOG units have reticles that were calibrated for a 55gr .223 cartridge shot from a 14.5in barrel, so if I used M855, it would technically not be correct to the BDC.
2, M855 vs M193 trajectories at 0-300m is almost identical on torso sized targets.
3, M855 destroys our range targets so out of respect for our range, we will not be using green tips.
4, we intend on using a mix of “easily available” ammo types for US based shooters. HOWEVER when we shoot this rifle and the M16A4 clone with iron sights, we will be using 62 grain mil spec velocity ammunition.
5, I think Josh and I were a bit jaded by shooting the Mk12 and LSA rifles so we seemed disappointed with this run. It actually matches military manuals on the M4’s performance to the dot. (0-300m point targets and 550m max effective range.)
Once again, thank you for your support and... more reviews inbound! -Henry
9-Hole Reviews Which really makes sense with 55gr ammo based on fragmentation limits of the cartridge. The rifle is point accurate within its terminally effective range.
I think it's a totally realistic and/or fair set up and test. Plus, it's worth noting that he's really monopoding off the mag the whole time so it's a more practical presentation and a little more difficult for the shooter, especially with 4x at 500.
9-Hole Reviews zero an't ammo and you will be good to go. you can always run it thru a balistic calculator to be exact. why a combat reticle would be set up for a practice load is beyond me. but it dont matter much
9-Hole Reviews you mentioned your result was the same as the Army spec, if your BDC isn’t zero to the 55 grain ammo, how much performance difference are we taking about?
David Wong hardly any. Impacts are very similar 55vs 62. However 77is more different.
Love the format of this series.
Thanks, Riley! We're trying to show what the rifles are capable of in the conditions of the day...sometimes that means windy as all get-out. Sometimes that means the shooter is overheated and tired. Sometimes that means the stars align! - Josh
Yup, always straight to the point.
The M16/M4 pop up ranges at FT Benning went out to 300m. I never had an issue scoring expert with iron sights but once we got ACOG's on our M4's getting perfect scores 40/40 became just another day at the office. The BDC reticle with the red fiber optic illuminated crosshairs was awesome
Same here. Was gifted one for my 29th. I absolutely love it. Same thing I’ve carried for the last 3 years (was a saw gunner for 7 and had irons or and MGO)

I'm not sure I'd be so disappointed, that seemed pretty damn good for a fairly standard .223.

I love the ACOG. From Iraq to Afghanistan it never let me down! Even bought another 1.5 power ACOG.
We hear the lower power ACOGs have better eye relief as well....can you confirm?
Indeed they do.
I’ll second that the 1.5 to the 3.5 have better eye relief but the 4x has an incredible fov.

Going on purely aestetics, I think this particular M4 is the most coolest, slick looking assault rifle. Just an awesome looking weapon. Would love to own one someday
What's an assault rifle? You could assault someone with a 30-30 carbine just as much as with a hunting rifle.
You mean an ar15?
assault rifle, military firearm that is chambered for ammunition of reduced size or propellant charge and that has the capacity to switch between semiautomatic and fully automatic fire. Because they are light and portable yet still able to deliver a high volume of fire with reasonable accuracy at modern combat ranges of 1,000-1,600 feet (300-500 metres), assault rifles have replaced the high-powered bolt-action and semiautomatic rifles of the World War II era as the standard infantry weapon of modern armies.
@@brettb5089 teachers' pet!
Oh shut up, full auto on M4s isn't even really used because it's a very niche mode. When I was infantry we used semi-auto 99% of the time. So in reality we do have weapons of war. They basically are assault rifles with the exception of the useless full auto feature. The smarter liberals/leftist won't get easily fooled by the "Buh but it's not a REAL assault rifles" disingenuous statement. It is basically and assault rifles and you know what? That's fine by me, because the second amendment is to fight Tyranny and for that we do need weapons.
This video definitely made an.. wait for it.. Impact
Great video and shows what Stoner designed the rifle for. 0 to 300 meters.
Carbines in particular are meant for close to medium range.
@Dan Gurău I don't see how "it fires very fast and has a large capacity" is changing anything here when shooting at long distance. Its not like you will be spraying the target at that range. I mean you could, but you probably won't hit anything.
Stoner designed it with 20 inch. On his videos with a 20 inch version you can see he did much better.
.223/556 is best out the the 20" barrel M16 variants.
Great video, This rifle looks exactly like my colt LE6920, KAC quad rail with a trijicon acog rco sitting on top, I love this setup 👍
that's all you need right there, just a m4 with ACOG!
Older video but will say i am not dissapointed with my acog. After the secind deployment with the USMC seeing the overall benifits of the ACOG. And proper use and training... my eyes are not what they use to be however it is an exceptional piece to own and use.
Great video, this is what I would expect to see on this setup in capable hands. Not that my 2 cents matters
Thanks for the comment! Always appreciate hearing feedback.
I agree. Just as I expected. Very capable set up and one of my favorites.
I couldn’t agree any more .... these two guys put some of the best practical gun reviews! Keep it up!!
I have an M-4 with the same ACOG. I bought it because of the eye relief,I wear glasses. Great scope!
Great video. I never pushed my M4 that far, shooting wise, when I had the ACOG mounted when I was in. However, I really liked having that ACOG to spot out the ridge line whenever we suspected AQ types were in the area.
Kevin Stafford those things make you see better, but magnified optics don’t make you shoot better. -Josh
Agreed and my post was never intended to say having a ACOG makes one shoot better. If a shooter doesn't master the fundamentals then the most expensive optic in the world means nothing. I see that in the PRS comps all the time when I shoot them.
Couldn't agree more. Thanks for the comment, Kevin! See you around.
I'd love to see an M4 and M16 w/ iron sight video. Great work, love the content.
Those are inbound! we had filmed them already, but back logged on post production.
I made a AR-15 / carbine with the k e arms polymer lower and the fixed handle upper I really like it so simple no batteries no nothing nothing extra on it
My heart stopped when I saw this in my feed!!! Love ❤️ this channel!!!
Happy to have you around!
OH MY GOSHHHH, THE ACOG IS SOO GUT, IM TYPING IN ALL CAPS.
Love these videos, this channel will become huge very soon!
I have 1/7 twist barrels on both of my AR's, I shoot nothing less than 62 grain ammo and with with my ACOG on my full-size AR (not the M4), it's spot on all the way out to 500 yards.
Not that poor of a performance for an "M4". Non match ammo milspec trigger. If that setup shoots 3moa average. That's 15" at 500. Making that last plate a challenge.
The shooter is being held back by the gear in this instance for sure
In hindsight, I think we were a bit rough on the performance at that moment. Knowing that we had cleared out beyond 500 with both the MK12 and the LSA MPC, all with only a single miss, had our minds in a slightly different place. - Josh
DCM88 I personally believe that one of the reasons is how warfare has evolved, to be honest. Being able to dismount from an armored vehicle with heavy ports/doors and being able to return fire at less than 200m without getting snagged up has become more and more important than past battlefields. -Henry
@DCM88 the shorter barrels are just an evolution of combat. This started in the 40's when all major powers started making carbine versions of of full length rifles. Urban warfare and close ranges changed the rifle and the cartridge. That's why most modern military's use a .22 cal intermediate cartrage. Like 5.56 5.45 and so on. Most soldiers in most situations will never need to shoot 500 600 700 hundred yards.
@@chadjordan9382 And if they do, that's the job for the Designated Marksman. And some Marines also carry the M16 so they can touch outside 500 meters more effectively. Anything else is usually lit up with armor/armor mounted small arms or airsupport. There's no reason to need a standardized rifle to perform past 500 meters in today's modern combat...other than the Space Force.
Amazed on how little the targets move with the 223 compared to 308. As you guys in one video were amazed on how hard the 308 spins the targets
Excited to have seen this one. Keep it up!
When I was at the rifle range in 29 palms, I watched a Corpsman hit a man sized target at 500 yards, 10 times from the standing with M4 and a trijicon optic. I was impressed.
UofLAlum how did you know?
Yeah, good vid, but probably ought to have used M193 Ball instead of pokey .223. Even Aguila's 62gr FMJBT 5.56 or Hornady's Frontier 62gr HPBT 5.56, would have been better ammo matchups for that carbine rifle. Really get the best out of it with both Velocity and bullet contour to buck that wind better ever so slightly! When I get home, I'll be taking my dissipator to the range to stretch its legs a bit! Thanks for another awesome vid guys!
We're all for testing different projectiles and loads. In these Practical Accuracy vids, it really is just a snapshot of a particular setup on a particular day. We tried the M193 loads in the M16A4 vid which is going to be coming out soon! - Josh
Cia Lee Also two major points are that the ACOG’s BDC is actually for 55gr .223 out of a carbine (I know, people don’t realize how old school they actually are)
Also M855 destroys steel. -Henry
@@9HoleReviews I did not know that...weird. And I know about M855, but I did mention M193 and the loads from Aguila and Hornady Black/Frontier are not LAP rounds. I think most people stay away from M855 no matter what target they are shooting, its mostly a stockpile option since the market is flooded with these rounds nobody wants...
Cia Lee yeah the guys who work on this range get pretty upset when people put little holes on the steel targets!
@@zipper978 .223 is slightly lower in chamber pressure, but muzzle velocity is almost the same between the two: www.luckygunner.com/labs/5-56-vs-223/
The M4A1 Carbine+Acog is a beautiful military weapon, I want it to remain operational for many more decades, and never need to be replaced from the new military weapon ngsw.
I have two of these M-4's and I like the 6 collapse stocks on the M-4 carbine that he has. That is what I have on both of rifles. The only thing that I would change if I wanted to, is the 5.56 front rail two the much newer version for the accessories that you could add on. The lower receiver is just fine.
Mr. Chan, I did not know that
Fabrique Nationale manufactured our very own M-4.
Gosh! Your channel has proven to be very educational, thanks!
I mean it 👍
this is the way it was issued to me and I carried it for 4 years. i thought it was definitely respectable in terms of accuracy
both of my FN ARs, a modded 16" M4/RECCE and an 18" match grade sporter/SPR are without doubt the smoothest, slickest and quietest cycling ARs ive ever handled.
both are 100% reliable and absolutely the most accurate rifles of any type ive ever handled.
both fire sub 3/8" 5-rd groups at 100 yds using Sig Sauer 77 gr OTM loads though sub 13/16" is all but guaranteed!
these are really great ARs! ive quickly become a diehard FN fan due to my experience with these 2 rifles.
i plan to add a new FN mid-length action to my stable this year.
i truly dont believe a finer AR exists than these FNs.
for anyone looking for a new AR, give FN a HARD look.
they tend to be a bit pricey for rather basic mil-spec ARs compared to the enhanced rifles offered by the competition, but in this case quality is a very quantifiable tangible and you do get what you pay for.
Good shooting as always... love this series. Well edited videos! I like the fact that you show your misses. Thanks for being safe!!!
Fiocchi bulk 55gr fmjbt has not consistently complained well for me, several different lot numbers.
Could explain the inconsistency
I have the Colt M4A1 socom version with 14.5 brl and topped with an acog 4x32 TA01 and geissele SSA trigger. I was just out today shooting at 500 and 600 meters using SS109 62gr ammo. Shooting prone and no wind. At 500m I was getting about 9" to 13" groups at maybe a 65%+ hit rate. At 600m about 17" groups at about a 45% hit rate.
It performed pretty good considering it’s a carbine at a rifle range
I have weird obsession with this beautiful gun ever since I saw it in Modern Warfare 2 back in the day.
Yep video games got me interested in a lot of cool guns. I want to build an M4 clone in the future.
Really loving your videos. Been binging them recently now that I found this channel from C&Rsenal. Would love to see this one and the M16A4 done with either 69gr or 77gr gold medal match just to see the accuracy difference.
Thanks! Love what Othias and Mae are doing, we're fans too. We actually did the A4 a while back, and even with 62gr ball, it's currently holding the lowest round count expended on this course, check it out: ua-cam.com/video/OGHKD_X6-Rw/v-deo.html
Me and my son were shooting from 300 to 500 with open sights and weather conditions were just right and shooter and spotter angles were spot on the we could see the flight path of the 223, and the lob angle of the bullet compared to our 308 which was of course nearly flat with no noticeable lob angle . Just FYI. With iron sights on our M4 we were about 50% hit rate at 500 yds. 308 with scope was at 80% at 500yds. Target was pink painted metal l,ate sized 2’ X 2’.
I saw your video, shows Soviet AK74 using iron sight without ACOG,needs 30 ammo to hit 'em all, and this M4A1 with ACOG sights needs 29 ammo to hit 'en all. As professional shooter, you can make very little different for that rifles.
AK74 is a full size rifle, M4 is a carbine. They made it in 21 shots with full length, iron sights M16A4.
varjagg look at the barell length AK74 (16") vs M4 (14,5"), its enough to compare.. M16 is more powerfull cause using 20" barrel.. absolutely, M16 will win, that's why M16 can be used as DMR.. try Look at their videos AK Niner vs M4 ACOG using same 5.56x45.. AK can beat M4..
I like watching videos were somebody’s actually shooting at something worthwhile, just shooting so we can watch them shoot.
i get about the same accuracy with 55gr. the slightly heavier stuff tends to perform better in my mechine. ive had some cheap 55gr spaul in mid air on the way to a target. i guess it was insanely over stabalized. i quit using it after that. 62gr is the lowest it would stabilize.
This video never gets old! Great job guys!
I took shooting courses on both the acog and m68 while active duty 11b and I was always holding tighter shot groups with the m68. 🤷♂️
I did this yesterday out to 450 yards only difference mine was a M4A1 colt and Acog TA01 NSN and the clarity you see threw a Acog is like no other , I could see more clearly than a vortex 1-8 with my 4 power Acog , thing is dead on . My go too SHTF weapon
Try a Acog with the Acss reticle, you won’t be disappointed 👍

That was golden lads,
I was hoping slightly better results but still, you performed remarkably and the gun did too.
While I was surprised you got the Niner to kill it two rounds less, I've no doubt that was not the gun and it was just an off day for this one. Not everyone can shoot perfectly everyday, but for what you did with a mil-spec M4 I was pleased. That coming from an AK fan ;)
Hope to see more in future!

Two questions about this video:
1.) Is this the M4A1 with the heavy-ish contour barrel?
2.) Ever thought about duplicating the M855A1 load and trying this test?
I ask because I've noticed significantly tighter shot groups and better qual scores after my unit switched from GWOT Era M4s to M4A1s with the M855A1 round.
0:52 what an AMAZING sound

9-Hole Reviews absolutely. I also found it interesting that this set up was only about 6 rounds less than the 7.62AK with iron sights. If I remember correctly that one had a round count of 32. Would love to see a 7.62x39 ak with a optic to see the results. A primary arms 3x would work nicely.
I think it would be interesting to find a Russian issued scope, learn it and see how it shoots!
All I've done to my FN M4 Military Collector's series is put a Geissele SSA trigger in it. The trigger shoe is identical to a mil spec standard issue trigger so it does not harm the looks.
Great precision trigger but also safety certified by the Crane Naval Warfare Center for combat use. It'll tighten up your accuracy at those longer ranges a lot. Also makes it super easy to bump fire!
Mine sits on 2 pounds on the second stage. It feels like my Timney 510 at 2.8 pounds in my R700 Police. Crisp, light, smooth. It's night and day!
The standard issue mil spec trigger is horrible! 7 pound pull?! What?!?!? Makes me wonder how I qualified expert in the high 240's every year in the Marines.
I've qualified with the M16A2 using iron sights and with the M16A4 using the ACOG. Maybe I recieved some pit love? Haha
We just finished reviewing our iron sight version of the GWOT rifles, Josh has informed me that the iron sight M16A4 has set the record for all current practical accuracy videos!
Longer barrel from M16s actually helps, but pit love could definitely be possible lol
Awesome videos brotha, great info and shows that a standard issue weapon is still very effective contrary to what some people think. Obviously there are things to improve performance but still good work

I wish this would be allowed in my country. I love when the clear comes and he removes the mag as well as unload the chamber.
Before a trip to Afghanistan, we shot the M4/ACOG/M855 at 700m with fairly decent results. The intent was to show that even at that distance, with less than ideal system, we could affect the enemy’s decision making process. Wish we could redo that with MK262 and a Geissele SSF trigger.
Honestly, in today’s military, all M4/M16 wpn systems should have a Geissele SSF.
Moral of the story: don’t mess with a solider equipes with acog.

Capable of 600 yards with MATECH iron signs and a 16 inch barrel on an IDPA Target. Run of the mil 55 grain ammo.
The background music can easily fit into a stealth game.
Run it again with MK262 and see if it does better.
Free float too. Daniel defense hasn't discontinued the omega rail which can be installed with the standard barrel nut+delta ring
Agreed, MK262 would change the results quite a bit.
No need to change anything at the rifle, keep it and apples to apples comparison. Just curious to see how much the better MK262ammo does. With the wind they always encounter and the better quality, heavier and higher BC bullet in the MK262 it should make a good bit of difference. The 55gr bullets tend to get pushed around a lot.
Agree totally that there are ways to improve the performance of this setup. Between free floating, to match trigger, to ammo selection, to simply spending more time on the range with the setup. The easiest change would be to try it with the 77s. We may circle back to do that eventually. Thanks for the feedback and the comments guys!
How about M855A1?
The M4 Carbine with ACOG sight is my favorite weapon in the US military, I got to wield it and is quite handy.

Darn it, do the milsurps already, Mosin 91/30, Mosin M44, etc., SKS, M1 Carbine, VZ58 or 2008, Swiss K31, All the stuff that everybody actually might own and cares about. Also Ruger American in 6.5 Creedmoor. In addition, Egyptian Rasheed and Hakim, French Mas 49/56. Scope all of them, easier said than done I suppose. Going past 300m is starting to get beyond the intended operational range of the M4. Within that 300, a 5.56 rifle with a barrel between 14.5 and 20 inches performs extremely well. You would really want a different gun chambered in a different caliber for longer range shooting than that. With current technology, there’s no gun that can do it all.
this is re-done, and performed much better. I think this FN15 had issues. The Colt 6921 was far better.

I would definitely like to try again but go to 1,000 just to try it. And then I’d love an FN M16 collector to see how a 20” barrel works out.
Great stuff 🤙🏽❤️
ChrisPewKreme 1k is a long way for 5.56! We have enough trouble spotting impacts at 500 from the decreased energy!
It's a fantastic weapon. Was projected to be easy to take and hold. The durability is small because of it, but it's a great kill machine.
I have an acog on my sig516. I am not a great shooter and its probably zero at maybe like 95% but I been able to hit steel targets at 500yds as well with a hit percentage of I say 75% using 62gr. I love my acog and sig516.
Great Demonstration Of The M4/AR15 Long Range Capability. Great Shooting, Great Video! Keep Em Coming! You Have A New Subscriber!!!
Awesome video as always, Henry! There is some kind of mysterious beauty in seeing an M4 Clone setup like that. haha. Can't wait to see the M16A4 clone! \m/ XD
tuck234 check back next week ;)
Another fantastic video! Keep them coming! I’d love to see an SMG/PDW qualification someday, too!
It's on our list! We've not settled 100% yet on a course, but we're working to add an element of speed to the equation, not just accuracy.
The way the camera was recording the report of the rifle sounded LoFi lol made it so dramatic/funny
Just got my FN-15 today (own an M92 SBR) and will be getting an ACOG asap.
another excellent video...these real life shooting vids without all the tactool crap are top notch:)
without using gel or charts or measuring ft/lbs, you can see the 30 caliber weapons make a major impact on the steel compared to the .223
Correct ammo for that gun is either M855a1 or BH 77gr OTM/TMK.
Love this channel! Keep up the good work.
Jwh Merica thanks! Glad you have your around!
One thing I've learn about watching the past videos: don't mess with Henry because he's a hell of a shot
This channel deserves more subscribers.

Such and old yet reliable weapon! The 5.56 ammunition sure must be expensive though.
That's a damn good looking rifle.
