Brilliant! I've been stuck on the side of the road for over an hour pulling and dragging ,cutting my fingers ,cursing trying to open these things. Thanks for this. You saved my knuckles, blood, sweat and tears!
Excellent video with suggestions that actually work. It was the last suggestion with hydraulic wrench (called multigrips here in Australia) that worked for me. I had spent a couple of hours trying to break that link. Your idea took about 30 seconds. Thank you kindly.
If you want to struggle and wreck a few things and curse everything and feel like an amateur, then try the hacks in this (an similar videos). I have done it myself. But then I purchased this cheap tool and I don't have to worry anymore. Cheers.
Had to remove an old and rusty chain and the last method worked well. Tried first with an old USB cable and some strips but those just broke before anything moved.
For peace of mind… as apposed to using a makeshift tool; i did just that; i ordered a chain tool set from Amazon; in which cost around £17 in the box 📦 consisted a new silver finish chain. A chain pin remover. One of those special link remover tools. And also, 6 spare chain links to go with it. Well worth it i suppose. You can take it with you, if you are going for a long bike ride. Just in case. The other new chain i bought from Amazon ( ZONKIE) in which… in my opinion, is just as good as Shimano or SRAM glides perfectly now; even though i left those extra links on the chain. It was just the derailleur gears that needed adjusting. But it doesn’t seem to make any difference anyway……when replacing a new chain to leave those extra links on. Tuesday am at 08:52H. 25th May 2021. U.K. 🇬🇧 Southampton.
I’ve just recently bought a new ZONKIE chain for my old bike; but very unfortunately i forgot to remove a few chain links that were not needed; because the new chain is slightly longer. So now, the gears are not working properly. I’ve tried to remove the link… using 1 or 2 of your methods…. But no luck. So now I’ve given up on that. looks like i might have buy another new chain. All i have… is a chain pin remover. Friday am at 07:53H. 14th May 2021. U.K. 🇬🇧 Southampton.
That's magic I've Been Rockin back and Forth on me Rowing Machine Racking my Brains as to how to remove a Super Tight lock on the Quick Link from Last Tour ... I should buy YU a Coffee 🤯👍🖖
Some good ideas here, but too late for me - I got impatient and used a bolt cutters, and binned the new KMC chain it came with. Not impressed - I have used Missing Links for years on Shimano chains with no trouble - always been able to fit and remove them easily with my fingers after 1000s of trouble-free touring. The whole point of these links was not to need any tool. I will be going back to Shimano chains with no missing link.
Since I notice some feedback below about people saying it was not possible to release with the techniques you suggested I wonder if they attempted to release a chain that did have a master link. Although in the beginning you show the master link, saying that this is just for using a master link, and that if you do not have one they should look for a video on the use of a chain tool. Do you think that is what is happening? Because your video is so easy to understand and clearly shows what to do!
A large binder clip does an amazing job of removing these links (if you have one lying around, of course). The size and shape of the bend are almost perfect, and the wire is stiff and strong enough to squeeze it with pliers. Kudos to this guy for the idea: ua-cam.com/video/1pYrK7DOkCk/v-deo.html. About 40 words, only 32 seconds - a masterpiece of brevity and clarity.
@@brrrt6666 Holy! Got the song right after I saw this vid, but never listened to it. Finally listened in the train today. Now I see that u replied recently. This song creates miracles!! 😂
Can you, chain-manufacturers, please, return to the good old U-spring, to avoid this endless unnecessary complicated demount misery? The only things I need with that is a 'telephone'-wrench and a couple of seconds ...
Brilliant!
I've been stuck on the side of the road for over an hour pulling and dragging ,cutting my fingers ,cursing trying to open these things. Thanks for this.
You saved my knuckles, blood, sweat and tears!
My new link was so tight the classic shoelace trick didn’t work, but method 4 did the trick. Thank you!
Excellent video with suggestions that actually work. It was the last suggestion with hydraulic wrench (called multigrips here in Australia) that worked for me. I had spent a couple of hours trying to break that link. Your idea took about 30 seconds. Thank you kindly.
Thanks a lot! Never thought it was so simple without special plier...
The last method worked like a charm. I'm going to remember that one, thanks!
Big up you for multiple methods, pliers gripping either side with no cable worked for me. Nice one 👍🏼
It worked for me. The chain had been stuck to a vintage bmx for 41 years. Now free, thanks to you.
That last method is genius!
Thank you! The last one I've been using myself, yet with wires is much more neat!
Work the second time, with a little more strenght and spray. Thanks for the help!

My path was exactly the same.
Yeah I bought cheap quick link pliers on AliExpress for $4USD and they work fine
Thank you!! Thumbs up! Saved me 18 bucks for the tool
I was on the side of the road when my chain broke. solution, I used my shoe laces to ooen the quicklink, it saved my
?It saved your what ??
hey@@bca-biciclindcuaxel7527 I saw you on Max the Irishman's channel, but now you're here too

Broke my lace like that

Life saver, I just did my new chain up wrong. Thank you!
You've just saved me getting a taxi into town to buy a pair of those specialist pliers mate, Bless you
Tied shoe lace, put a stick or Allen wrench through the tied shoe lace, (can also use bread bag twist ties twisted), then just twist the stick.
Thanks. Just done that. Let's see if we can put it together just as easily 👍
You probably just saved me some money with this.... Thank you
I tend to use the wrench method. But beware, it will damage the quick links a little. I don't take the chain of very often though.
Nice DIY technique, you have special talent
Thank you! worked with shifter cable.. a lot of force needed and bent the quick links tiny bit .
Legend worked a treat
Wow. That last method are pretty ingeneus
Thank you for producing this informative video.
Method 4 worked! Thanks a lot man!
i used a bass guitar string.....
sadly these damn links are usually wayy tougher to unclip as shown here.
Szaju ratujesz zycie :)
You saved my time and bucks. Thanks.
Excellent tips and great music too!
This worked! Much appreciated!
Haha I had trouble and did it last time while there was still tension on the chain. Thanks. Great video only needed to watch the first 2 minutes
Thank you so much for this. I just finished my chain with pliers and wire only
Electrical copper wire didn't work for me but I had a spool of some other stuff and that helped so thanks for making this video 👍
adding this to my lightweight bikepacking tool bag
Great tips man, I loved the last one trick 👏👏👌👌
Aren't the Shimano quick link. One time use only after removing?
LAST ONE IS VERY GOOD
Works! Pro tip, chain NEEDS to be under tension so have a wheel and casette installed, that way you're not just bending the chain around!
thank you .. method 4 worked on my new chain.
The 'Hydraulic Wrench' method was the winner for me!!
Used it on a brand new chain ✅
(I used an angle grinder to remove the old one 🤣)
im using as much strenght as my hands give and it wont come open with plyers... WTFFF?
Great stuff. Thanks for this.
Saved my life out on the trial 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What was the charge?
That wrench has nothing to do with the word ''hydraulic'' :)))
an old shoelace also works, just yank it hard and it gonna remove, i always do like that
Fabulous, worked a treat
You're a real lifesaver
You can actually do the 4th method using only regular pliers and your fingers to position the chain.
the last one ftw.
Or just hit one side with multitool or something narrow sided but heavy
Thank you for very helpful video. 10 stars goes to the well made video, especially the BEAUTIFUL background music. Thank you. God be with
Thanks for the tips 👍
#1 worked but I had a twist the wire after crimping it 🤙

That was most helpful fo me, pfuuu damn, finally solved it !!!
or if ur taking a chain off a bike but dont plan to reuse, just break with a chain breaker itts alot easier

Bent one of the links on mine doing this. Just put on a new chain and ordered a link compressor tool and a couple pins to salvage it for another day.
Sweet hacks! Great video

Czy powinnem też założyć taki "quick link " w nowo zakupinym rowerze Trek x4 calibre 7 ?
Thank you. I needed that! (stubborn rusted chain....)
I'm new to this whole bicycle thing, so this video was extremely helpful! Thank you so much!
Also, love the porn music
u are a genius bro
Broke 2 pliers, until i used the shifter cable. I think the more the chain is new the more its difficult to open
Awesome Man !
Good.. i usually just using the old shifting cable, cross it like that.. and pull it using my hand. But i wearing glove of course,
Bloody brilliant, thanks!
thank you it worked perfectly
Thank you, ended up grinding the chain apart
Thanks, very helpful
I have the same problem with the quick link. I mounted it in the wrong direction. Does it have anything if I leave it like that?
It isn't possible to mount it in the wrong direction ... the arrows on the two sides point in opposite directions.

thanks ...i really couldnt work it out had 2 nails and 2 pair of pliers and they kept slipping
You're the man :)
worked for me. thanks
THANK YOU!!!!
Method 4 was the easiest. Long nose pliers is all you need

i use shoe laces :)
Thanks, worked.
Hydraulic wrench?
thank you, and thanks for the nostalgic music . would you send me the link to listen to this music.
I squeeze it in my hand, which is why I like this type.
Yo, thanks man ☮️😎👍
This is gold
Si que funciona ,yo eh utilizado el método del cable viejo y me resultó ,Gracias !!
I like the music
Worked perfect 👌

Doesn't work. Tried it several times. I have a half open 11 speed link. This method doesn't budge it! May work on a well worn link but not a new one.
put 2 long nails through it and press with a plier
what do u do if u dont have pliers?
Shoelaces
Buy or borrow some
Go buy one and than try
Nice idea🙂
Ingenius! Thank you!
Great music! What is this?

@@brrrt6666 Holy! Got the song right after I saw this vid, but never listened to it. Finally listened in the train today. Now I see that u replied recently. This song creates miracles!! 😂
It's just an adjustable pliers, nothing hydraulic about it.
i"ll try.
Does masterlink plier not work?
