Hi...just a quick tip...when you soak the whole coconut in its shell...in water for a few hours...when you crack it..it falls out of the shell, without the use of a knife..thanks
Lola Nolan thanks for the tip I will try that next time save me the trouble and not getting cut which happens some times because I use coconut alot I dont use the can stuff
Hi Miquel, I just saw your video on Irish Moss. After i wash mines for several times to removed all the salt and whatever msy be on it, I then soaked it in some fresh lukewarm water and let it soaked overnight, and it becomes so soft. Then I blend it a few seconds, and it so gelatinous, I keep it in the fridge and use about two tbps in my smoothies. Or more for desserts, soup, etc. This is raw vegan/ vegetarian way. I find that when it is soaked in warm/hot it's brakes down better, and it'ready to use in your recipes. Have a great day!! Carol
Also I make a quick I cream... coconut milk, Irish moss ( prepared) vanilla, frozen fruit( your choice) frozen bananas . Freeze cut fruit in small pieces; better blending. Pour into container, freeze overnight. Rhubarb/ strawberries my fav mix. Kinda sweet/ tart taste. I use vita mixer. I did free flow no measurement.😇
my dad makes it a bit different ...wash the moss and soak linseed ...and soak moss...then simmer NOT BOIL... the moss with linseed and isinglass until the moss dissolve.....then filter out all linseed and let it cool...when it cool is like a thin jelly....which you make your drink from....you can use rum and condensed milk or coconut and honey ...nutmeg etc...whatever you like...but preparation is slightly different ..but yours still looks good.
depending on the irish moss I wash the moss and then let it soak for almost 24 hours to get back the volume then i boil it with the Flaxseed (linseed) insinglass and arabic gum. Flaxseeds are actually good for you. I don't throw mine away. I then let it cool down until it form a Jelly and then blend it with things i like. (condensed milk, nutmeg and other spices)
Thanks for sharing. Carribean cooks crack me up with their ingredients' measure: "one teaspoon full (or a tablespoon)". Isn't that almost double the measurement? Great accent. Love it lol
Can you take the Irish Moss hot like in hot chocolate, or coffee or tea? Or can you use it in soups to thicken it like in clam chowder or seafood gumbo or menudo?
Paula Onyenyeonwu hey you can use it in smoothies oatmeal or tea I don’t know about coffee or chocolate because it’s for health, I don’t think you can relate it to either caffeine or chocolate.
Great recipe!!! I'm going to try this! Shame you don't have a glass bottle to store the juice in. Plastics are terrible for health and can leech into the juice!!!!! Try getting some glass jars!!!
Raymond Salgado maybe that 92 is being exaggerated. I found 7. Calcium 7% Magnesium 41% Iron 68% Manganese 18% Phosphorus 22% Sodium 4% Zinc 21% Plus 8 vitamins and 1.6grams protein. Vitamins found were B2 riboflavin 39% B3 niacin 4% B5 pantothenic acid 4% B6 5% B9 folate 46% E 4% C 5% K 6% Please add to If anyone finds the rest.
Wash off salt under fresh running water, allow it to dry for less than a week, once the is sun hot. When Irish moss gets stiff, it ready. To prepare it rinse again, soak, and then follow this recipe to make drink. I called my fisherman friend, and that is what he told me.
I bought some irish moss today and there were blue grey green specks in it. is that normal? I just washed it off. I think I see those same specs in yours too...
+pookiroo Usually irish moss, is white cream like ocean sand. It stays like that for long. Therefore blue grey green specks sound like it is not good. NO you did not see those things on mines. I actually still have some from that same day, and It looks the same even to day. I went and check. I am looking at it now. Maybe different regions have other types!!
thanks miquel. I didn't end up using it to be on the safe side. I bought a different kind and there was no blue specs, so I presume that the one with specs must of been mold. i contacted the company i bought it from and they are pulling the product off the shelves.
+pookiroo See, that's what I like with first world countries. If I did that here, it would have took many energy from me and, they might still do nothing. BEST TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY! Take care....
Mix it like you would any smoothie or shake, use 2 to 3 tablespoons of Irish Moss powder with coconut milk or regular milk. And than add the spices, etc.
If your gum Arabic is lumpy, just add and mix it properly with small amount of Irish Moss in separate cup, and then add that to the whole mixture. If using a blender just add the lumpy pieces, and blend well.
This is a tasty drink. But Let me tell y’all Anyone trying this super food ‘Irish Sea Moss’ Yall need to know that In addition to all the great heath benefits, it makes you horney! #likenolie ! And I’m pissed 😤
+hj B I am not sure, but like hope you mention it i must research. Get back to you soon. And if it so, I will put the information in my JAMAICAN DRINKS BOOK. Thank you JB
+hj B Hi MiQuel, thank you for this vid. Carrageenan and Irish Moss are absolutely not the same thing. Carrageenan is a man made substance which is chemically extracted from Irish Moss or synthetically produced. It is the man made carrageenan that the food industry widely uses as a thickening agent in all kinds of food that has been linked to harmful effects in humans. Extracted or chemically synthesized carrageenan is potentially dangerous. Natural Irish Moss, however, has no known deleterious effects on humans and is considered a beneficial superfood. I was also wondering if there was a reason you left out Isinglass.
Any milk can run belly, if it is not fresh. When coconut milk run belly, it's a good thing because it clean you out. Those other milk don't but get you sick. My opinion!
Let me explain our language to you. Jamaicans whom are intelligent talks properly in professional settings. However, when sporting or socializing some will talk bad (which I called broken-English), like to say mash insight moss, Panish Town insight Spanish Town. etc. Get it!. On the other hand, Jamaicans whom dropped out of school, do not know better really. That's why lots of Jamaicans talks bad and broken English. (Which I believed became patois/patwa over time.) If anyone else can add to my opinion, I welcome your views.
MiQuel M. Samuels you got it 100%...a mixture of inadequate education, colloquial traditions, (miscegenation from slavery and emancipation) and also ownership of something unique to us yardies.
Excellent tutorial..My Kind of West Indies guy..Very easy smooth talking, not allot of talking, straight to the point..Good Job.

Lola Nolan Interesting!, How long?
MiQuel M. Samuels he says for a few hours......i wonder if he is just joking[
+Lola Nolan (Honesty) I will do that with my coconut next time I make Rice & Peas. Thanks.
Marjorie Ferguson the point was to not need the knife.

what is the benefit of the ingredients for your moss drink
Very nice indeed.
Why do you use gum powder? Also sea moss will extract the toxics out the plastic. Use glass instead.
Thanks sugar sweet voice Mig xx
This looks beautiful. I'm feeling your 100% natural vibe. Question: why do you heat the irish moss? MiQuel Marvin Samuels
bellydanza85 Heat is add to soften the Irish Moss. The only reason.
I just got some irish moss fresh out of the sea should i sun it and how many days and how to prepare it thanks

+Lynn Cromer did you make it? Was it good?
yes I made it ....thank you
I can't find the recipe. Pls help.
Nice video!
Sea Moss is not supposed to be boiled for more than 2-3 minutes. 30 minutes is waaaaaaaaaay too long, you've boiled out the nutritional properties.
just listening this lets me know this person is intelligent
Do the lumps of gum Arabic dissolve in the mixture?
If your gum Arabic is lumpy, just add and mix it properly with small amount of Irish Moss in separate cup, and then add that to the whole mixture. If using a blender just add the lumpy pieces, and blend well.
+MiQuel M. Samuels Not the powder kind. The kind that comes in hard pieces
Put it between clean plastic, and then smashed to powder.
+MiQuel M. Samuels OK thank you, that's what I was wondering. Bless up!
what type of sugar do you use?
regular granulated - sugar is make from cane. That;s what I used.
How long to soak the peanuts?
at least 30 minutes.
MiQuel M. Samuels Thanks love. How long can it last in the fridge after mixed together with other ingredients?
hebrewqueen555 Sealed properly 3 days in the fridge for freshness.
MiQuel M. Samuels Thanks love;)
Lovely drink
Whats the rum for?
for extra happiness
What does it taste like?
like the ocean without salt.. like fresh river.
Taste like sea moss.
What is the purpose of the gum arabic?
Gum arabic is not necessary, it's just additional natural vitamins. Gum Arabic makes you strong!
Gum Arabic good for lots of things - do a Google
i'm drunk on happiness alone
lovely can I come dine wit you.....i had some for digestion the other day same way with linseed.
lebjem Sure
Where do you purchase your sea moss from ?
Caribbean grocers carry it, as do many home-brew suppliers (since it is used as a fining agent). It is also called "carrageen".
where can I purchase some real Seamoss from
Good question! Health Food Store is the only place I can think of.
Amazon. Check out Dr sebi use for sea moss
Dis name mus breed it
He said Irish "MOSH" 😂😂😂
In Jamaica we say irish mash and gummer rabbit lol
doesn't boiling the Moss kill it's nutritional supplements
It sure does
@samajé Manuel That makes absolutely NO SENSE
@samajé Manuel you ever heard of something call COMMON SENSE?? If you boil certain herbs for too long the natural nutrients will deplete.
@samajé Manuel you need some education and knowledge on these things. Smh
This is a tasty drink.

Too much surface knowledge. Flax seeds need to be ground the cannot be digested. These will go straight out as they went in.
