Every year, the Golden Raspberry Awards (a.k.a. the Razzies) honor the “worst” in contemporary cinema. Yet in doing so, they have often inadvertently shed light on films so out-there, so uncompromising, so beyond the bounds of accepted “good” taste that they demand attention. While some infamous Razzie winners like XANADU, BARB WIRE, and GIGLI live on as classics of camp and cult, others, like Michael Cimino’s HEAVEN’S GATE, Elaine May’s ISHTAR, and Paul Verhoeven’s SHOWGIRLS have been reclaimed as fearlessly ambitious expressions of personal vision. In a topsy-turvy way, this program pays tribute to those divisive films that continue to fascinate and provoke debate, while calling into question the very line that separates high and low culture. - Фільми й анімація
They’re afaraid of showing Freddy got Fingered in the trailer because it’s secretly getting a 4K + Blu-ray release 😎
If you never saw any of these, you’d think this was an Academy Award compilation. Gigli was gloriously dreadful!
The room not being nominated for any razzies is one of biggest snub of bad cinema
Show Girls legit isn't even bad. It's bad reviews I think is legit just pearl clutchers
It is really, really bad.. but a good one for laughs
It's a great movie. I immediately disregard the opinion of anyone who calls it bad.
@@t19040 hahaha.. I see what you guys are doing
@@Iker122 No offense man, but it's a genuinely great satire.
@@t19040 thats fine, I mean to each his own
I was desperately hoping for “not the bees” in this, but it’s still awesome to see these films get some love.
where is BARB WIRE? I cannot find it on the app.
Blair Witch won a razzie?
Heather Donahue did for her role as Heather
@@b3z3jm3nny One of many dumb moves the Razzies made.
The Shining was nominated for Razzies too. 🤦♂️
@@1977Suspiria Some movies I will never understand why they were hated on release.
I deserved it. It was boring.
Heaven's Gate was pretty good.
You guys have the best programming
wild how most of these are genuinely great
like how did querelle get a razzie???? one of the best films ever
Or Wicker man
Heaven's Gate really isn't a bad movie at all, it's just stupidly long.
STUNNING cinematography in that movie!
Some horses were killed in the making of it though, I'd call that pretty bad.
@@kingofpointless A cow was killed in Come and See. A horse was killed in Andrei Rublev. An ox was killed in Apocalypse Now. Does that make them bad movies?
I watched Heaven's Gate for the first time a few weeks ago and I think it's fair to say it's a bit of a mess.
It could be argued that Zack Snyder films have great cinematography, but does that make them good?
How about THE JAZZ SINGER with Neil Diamond?
Under the cherry moon is such a good movie to play during a party
Showgirls is a goddamn masterpeice.
I wouldn't call it that but it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be.
Oh yeah, Cruising is back baby
These men are pawns.
I would love a Blair Witch Project physical criterion release. The amount of features you could put on that disc. The impact that that film has had on the horror genre and guerrilla filmmaking whether you love it or hate it is undeniable.
And even better it’s showing how ahead of its time it was with the younger generation dominating UA-cam with the analogue horror movement. So many kids discovering The Blair Witch through their interest in the Backrooms.
The Blair Witch deserves the most special of Criterion releases.
The Razzies are such a mixed bag. Sometimes, they get so caught up in the moment of nominating & “awarding” what was popular to revile that year, but sometimes, they miss the truly awful movies of that year.
For example, let’s look at 1997. Sure, you could kick The Postman for being an overly long and expensive ego trip from Kevin Costner, but does that mean it deserves to win in the same year that gave us Batman & Robin, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Steel, BAPS, Buddy, or Jungle 2 Jungle?
Also, the last five movies didn’t manage more than one nomination, and it was for Shaq because low hanging fruit.
Ishtar…
………
Cruising is a great film but very hard to watch
Love a lot of these movies, especially Showgirls and Barb Wire.
Wicker Man?
The remake. It's absolutely awful.
@@MrRazorblade999 Forgot about that. I'll have to watch it now.
NOT THE BEES !
Slant magazine ranked showgirls as the 14th best movie of the 90s
Hollywood at its worst
yet zero Woody Allen movies. Your programmers are a disgrace.
Why would a Wendy Allen movie be in this? Have any of them gotten razzies?
I don't understand what is so great about him either.
No amount of camp or goodwill makes Xanadu anything but cinematic crud. God knows I've tried .. never has a film added up to so much less than the sum of its parts.
So you just dismiss all the great music and lively, colorful musical numbers?
I watched Xanadu and I honestly felt it wasn’t bad. Some choices they made weren’t the best choices (like the male lead was so out of place). It’s essentially a ‘40s musical in the ‘80s. It’s better than Norte - The End of History or Horse Money (two foreign films with undeserved praise).
@@citygirl5705 No, I wouldn't. The music is wonderful and there are some joyous set pieces which work great as clips... That's my point- try watching the whole film and not be bored and confused DESPITE the fun moments.... Ok, maybe I'll give it another try!
Michael Beck and Olivia Newton-John had no chemistry at all. The soundtrack was great along with Gene Kelly.
At least the music was good..
first!
