  • Is the new-generation Subaru Impreza worth considering?
    Only if you need all-wheel drive and can't afford to spend more...
    That's because, in my opinion, there are better hatchbacks out there for similar money, and if AWD isn't necessary for you, you could find something that's more enticing for similar money.
    But if you're a Subaru person -- I get it!! -- then you will be pleasantly impressed by the interior, value, and the wow-factor of the cabin, especially in the top-spec model.
    If you want thrills, you should buy a WRX. But if an affordable AWD brand-new hatch is your criteria, this is the only choice!

    No idea why this continues to be sold in Australia. The fulltime AWD has major downsides for a small hatch (impacts fuel economy, steals boot base, impacts ride) and most of Australia doesn’t have the climate to use its advantages (no clearance to go offroad and can’t tow with this drivetrain). While the equivalent Crosstrek costs a lot more for little reason, you do at least get the $ (and more) back when you sell it.

    • @therightcar
      @therightcar  4 місяці тому +3

      Yep, it would be a Crosstrek in my driveway instead of an Impreza, if it came down to those two.

    In NZ the start price is $45k. For that price you could buy a RAV4 GXL AWD or GX Hybrid, or Camry GX Hybrid, or Honda Civic, or Mazda CX5 GSX, or CX 30 SP25. So many better options than this car.

    Feels weird to see an AUX port in this car when the majority of modern smartphones don't have one

      God not even my liberty from 2011 uses that much fuel. I'm averaging 6-7.5L/100 that's a crazy amount of fuel up there with Mercedes v8 engines and god damn vans 😅

    Engineered to be an unremarkable reliable and safe global vehicle in what is an entry level a to b car.
    I think it might all be on purpose guys.

    the lack of torque just make it unsafe, do ancap consider this when testing? then there's the rear middle seat belt arrangement.....

    I can remember when Subaru made desirable, well-made vehicles. Sadly, it is no longer the case underpowered with crapy CVT . Except the WRX but still a CVT.

    • @ShockingPikachu
      @ShockingPikachu 4 місяці тому +1

      The issue with the CVT isn't the CVT itself, it's the fact people don't know you need to change the fluid in it once every 93,000(ish)km which results in laggy acceleration and less power.

      tell me you are clueless without telling me. NOT everyone want a hatch back as fast and furious. Get a WRX. Such a delusional comment.

    A missed opportunity with the carry over engine and transmission hence the lackluster performance and fuel economy figure.
    It looks better than the previous generation except for the long front overhang.
    The 2.5 litre engine should be standard on the more up spec models.

    • @afcgeo882
      @afcgeo882 4 місяці тому +1

      The 2.5 comes on this trim in North America and it even gets the sane fuel economy as the 2.0.

    I had the previous gen 2018 Impreza s for a few months. Worst car ever, 0-100 takes 11s and fuel consumption is so high around 9.5L/100km while being so slow

    • @briancurran1086

      We have a 2021 2.0s. Around town it's peppy enough and even on the highway it's not horrible. But then again my main car is a triton so I'm used to going slow
      One thing that bugs both my wife and I though is the cruise control. Due to a lack of torque it finds it hard to maintain set speeds up hills. And when it reaches the top it.ends up being a fair bit over the limit.
      Fuel economy is a mixed bag. Highway it's good. Recently average low to middle 6s on a 500km trip to Goulburn. Around town it varies between 7.5-9.5

    The cannonball run 1981 movie with jackie chan driving a Subaru left me in awe as a young boy. But as a middle aged man, the lacklustre design, unnecessary full time awd and boxer engine with high maintenance cost turned me off. Now it's toyota, honda, nissan, mazda and even suzuki before I consider Subaru

    I quite like it, and it's overall decent value in today's market. Economy should get better once the engine frees up, I've seen low 7's around the city with a Manual XV (albeit two generations old now). I do hope the 2.5L makes it here in an RS grade though!

    i have both Impreza and Cerato and i can tell you that the Subaru has better real world boot size to fit stuff. Cerato space is less useful. Impreza is great for carrying bike in the back. This review is a bit questionable. Subaru once you drive them real life makes other FWD cars feel cheap... Journo review are so unrealistic.

  • @androo4519

    Wow, an eleven 'Look' review. Must be because Subaru has managed to engineer out all the advantages of a boxer engine and leave in all the disadvantages. They must be hoping electric power means they'll never have to give up on the flat four. Shame. Look.

    Absolute trash car. Rented one with only 1000ks on the clock. Cost me more than driving my golf r. The seats have no support, this one didn't have leds pretty sure they were hid. Legit the only decent thing about the entire car is the turning circle. The transmission is pathetic. Sorry mine was the crosstrak actually... I could legit write a novel about the stuff I hate about this car while you walk around discussing it by keep thinking of more things I just don't have the energy and yes I probably have been a bit spoiled by owning a car like the Golf R and it's not the same class but still a 2024 car should come standard with so much more things even at that price 🤣🤣
    3rd EDIT. lmao. The CVT tranny imitation and and the WRX and happier than this car. Best bits of the whole video hahaha.
