I like the Impreza's clean lines, compared to the excessive cladding on the Crosstrek. But will reviewers ever stop calling CVT shifts "simulated"? When using the paddle shifters, you're shifting between actual, physical, preset transmission ratios, regardless of whether there are small, internal gears or the two large shift drums.
So you understand the point of the word "simulated"? They say this because there is no "gear ratio" in a CVT. Sure, they are physically preset ratios, but it doesn't make them any less simulated lol
It's not called that because it's simulating a change in ratio. It's called that because it's simulating the thump, the hard feeling of going instantly from one gear to another. Many customers when the CVT came out complained that they couldn't "feel it shift gears" when driving in normal use, so ever since then manufacturers have been trying to tweak that feeling to simulate a geared automatic, instead of smoothly revving up and down from one ratio. Even though that's not how CVTs work, and they're just adding extra steps to make idiot consumers happy. So yes, it's the simulation of an Automatic transmission.

Swapped it for a Fiat 500 that lasted almost as long and have now been in a weird place leasing Hyundai and cannot wait to get out of them, especially since they got rid of any car I would actually like to own. The hatchback is becoming rare, but it fits my driving and lifestyle so well.
This generation of Impreza looks a lot better than the new Crosstrek, especially towards the front end of the car. What a shame Subaru, really took an L (and even 2 Ls) on that one (pun intended)
Thank you very much My wife just purchased one yesterday just waiting you'll be like a month before it be here from the factory maybe to the most they said
I find it crazy how many terrible choices Subaru tends to mask with catch phrases like "take rates" and consumer "demand changes". No on wanted a manual impreza cuz they saddled the smallest engine to a 5 speed, while honda has making six speeds in its honda fit since like 2012, and that's a smaller engine. Making something that no one wants and then saying that no wants it cuz they made it terribly. With that said enthusiast's are hard to make happy, so let me give subaru an obtainable goal. I think they should bring back the impreza sedan, one engine only the 2.5, one trim only being the RS trim, since they don't need all the other trims, and have it available with the CVT AND the 6 speed from the WRX, dual exhaust, even if that doesn't change the hp output, and the tech package that come swoth the ears goodies. Sedans are the new coupes, you have to make them more special in order for them to sell, and I think a sub 30k manual awd sedan with 180hp is a very old school but enticing option for many.

The console shifter has a manual mode but paddles are the only way to manually select the ratios, you can blip the paddles in automatic mode to temporarily invoke a selected ratio and depending on the driving it will default back to auto in a few seconds, manual mode will hold the ratios selected.
Our 2018 Impreza is poor around town. We can see up to 13l/100km in winter. So that's the absolute worst case. I did see 6.9l/100km on the highway last week, which is really good.

Info-tainment system intuitive and properly designed. Yeah... Nissan stretched it out to the size of an older Altima, in its current form. If I wanted a mid-size sedan, I'd go and buy a mid-size sedan. I want a compact with some real power. My choices are now horribly limited.
I'd buy the Civic. The civic doesn't have AWD but it has hybrid. The new Prius has AWD and hybrid. That's two better options. Both these two choices have more HP.

I want to go ahead and buy the RS already. I been so sucked into this car ever since it was shown off in LA auto show. It hast to be white and the car is sold
The Impreza RS is a great looking car and would be a home run if it offered a manual transmission. I like the fact that there is no turbo either. Unfortunately the CVT makes it a non-starter for me.
I've seen the RS is Red and Blue, will it be offered in more colors as I love my Crystal Pearl White on my 2020 Impreza and if I consider the 2424 RS it would have to come in that color. Red and Blue do nothing for me.
In addition to the red and blue shown also comes in sapphire blue, black, silver, magnetite grey and …Crystal White Pearl. Saw a ‘24 Crosstrek in white today when I put my order in for this, in Oasis Blue Pearl but the white looks great.
Subaru has made so many confusing choices with their cars lately and I can’t even be bothered. It’s honestly driving me away from them cause their NA services available are garbage. Don’t get me wrong I love my 18 Impreza but I find myself looking to the past and not the future for these cars.
@@Penelope416 all their vehicles are moving more and more to just family sedans. The new new WRX looks like a basic crossover while this Impreza looks more like the original wrx. I just don’t like the direction they are taking their cars in terms of looks and the WRX sti was killed off this year.
For all people who whining not to have a manual transmission . The real reason why Subaru dropping the manual transmission is because Subaru has a goal of zero fatal accidents by 2030, and they need every model in the lineup to be equipped with EyeSight safety technology. EyeSight is not offered on any Subaru model with a manual gearbox because it's incompatible with the safety system.
Everybody says that. Nobody thats actually owns one though. Subaru CVTs behave far better than any other brand. Modern (2017+) ones have proven to be very reliable also. Would I want a CVT on a sports car...? Nope, thats what manuals are for. But on an everyday commuter car for the masses, they are way better than the wannabe gearheads give them credit for.
Subaru CVT is their own in-house tech... drive one. I have a 2016 Imprezza. I would complain about lack of power way more then the CVT itself. 182 HP on the new RS should be enough to take care of that.

@@justintimefr Honestly, I didn't know the Google maps for example, are updated frequently. My embedded nav in my KIA Forte GT, and my previous cars, are updated 2X a year. I've been using embedded nav in my cars for since 2018, and they are very accurate, During the last 5 years there have been a few minor wrong way directions. Such as, make a right turn, when I should have made a left turn, but I usually realize it and make the correction. It's my personal choice to not use my phone. Thanks to you, I'm going to use my phone to see how I like it. I believe my car has wireless for my IPHONE, I will have to check that out. If I like it, then I very well may consider the new Impreza. I have a vw golf r from 2018 and the built in nav is a bit lacking tbh. Now, of course, that is a 5 year old system now, and I'm not sure how often it is updated, but I agree, I'm not sure why subaru doesn't have it as standard.
….Better served by the WRX except subaru only sells the WRX as a sedan. Loved the old hatch version of the WRX but they claimed North Americans didn’t buy hatchbacks. So now, a decade later, there’s this. Call it a step in the right direction but still a work in progress. All wheel drive makes this a great choice in some regions but otherwise I think the other cars mentioned as competition would be preferred by most drivers.
So - they make a RS - " rally sport" badged car - BUT DONT OFFER IT IN MANUAL????!!!! WTF ----VARY LAME of SUBARU - CVT is booorrring. MANUAL is FUN FUN FUN.
No embedded navigation is a deal breaker for me. I'm not going to spend another $3,000 for the limited model in order to get the embedded nav. I think Subaru continues to not realize this is a deal breaker for very many potential buyers. It's looks like I will have to check out the K5 AWD, which has a 10.25 screen with KIA's excellent embedded NAV STANDARD.
Nobody likes built in nav. It is always out of date and never as accurate as apple\google maps. Thats for old farts that don't understand technology. You dont "need" cell service for them to work either. You can download maps for offline use on your phone and never have to worry about a data connection.
I'm 70 years old "Old Fart." I have just a $35.00 monthly fee with Boost Mobile. If I begin to use my phone for Nav, regardless which company I'm using, what would my monthly bill jump to using all that data for navigation?
@@CombatVeteranUSNAVY That is possible if it is not an unlimited data plan. But with built in nav you often lose valuable features. Traffic updates, faster routes, etc. The way the world is building up leaves things ever changing. Built in units rarely if ever get updated.

Didn't care what I got. Ended up with a Nissan Sentra SV (previous gen. model). Wasn't perfect. But I liked the size, surprising bit of power under the hood. Info-tainment system intuitive and properly designed. Yeah... Nissan stretched it out to the size of an older Altima, in its current form.
If I wanted a mid-size sedan, I'd go and buy a mid-size sedan. I want a compact with some real power. My choices are now horribly limited.
I do appreciate me a good, flexible, compact, hatchback. And subaru does manage to give the car a bit of sportiness, so there's that too.
wow, for a short moment, i thought this was a Mazda LOL
no manual :'(
Subaru where's the manual?
In the glove compartment ♟️
🤡🤡👈👈
I'd buy the Civic. The civic doesn't have AWD but it has hybrid. The new Prius has AWD and hybrid. That's two better options. Both these two choices have more HP.
Just traded my civic sport in on one
It's not the worst thing out there, but for a little more money I'd get a base gti with more power and a dsg instead of the top of the line impreza rs with a cvt. Yeah, you lose awd, but I'm not sure that a lot of people will worry about that too much
Depends on dealer markups
@curiosityredpill7030 very true, and I feel the markups on the gti would he higher, however we won't know for sure until the first couple impreza rs are delivered to dealer lots
@@timhahn7358 true it should’ve been little faster bt I guess it helps keep prices down
GTI is a great handler and with better power to be sure but you have to deal with that God-awful capacitive touch switchgear for nearly everything.
Depends where you live.. if its in a rainey or snowey place, you'll usually want AWD.
I want to go ahead and buy the RS already. I been so sucked into this car ever since it was shown off in LA auto show. It hast to be white and the car is sold
This car will definitely sell, price point is amazing for what you get. However, why isn't the Mini Clubman All4 never mentioned in this class?
So for 2k I can get another wrx? Overpriced?
3:33 We'll have to see whether the head gasket blows on the 2.5L; the safe bet would be to get the 2.0L.
What's wrong with Subaru?
@@Penelope416 all their vehicles are moving more and more to just family sedans. The new new WRX looks like a basic crossover while this Impreza looks more like the original wrx. I just don’t like the direction they are taking their cars in terms of looks and the WRX sti was killed off this year.
i'd choose a mazda3 instead
I clutch dump my 08 impreza and it goes BOOF.
It looks great
Why couldn't they make a wrx look like that RS!?!
For all people who whining not to have a manual transmission . The real reason why Subaru dropping the manual transmission is because
Subaru has a goal of zero fatal accidents by 2030, and they need every model in the lineup to be equipped with EyeSight safety technology. EyeSight is not offered on any Subaru model with a manual gearbox because it's incompatible with the safety system.
Looks like I'm going to have to track down a slightly used 2023 Impreza sedan.... since those aren't made anymore. Yeah, thanks Subaru.
Wish they had a manual transmission
How about this car vs. the Toyota Corolla awd?
subaru should just dump their cvts altogether
Everybody says that. Nobody thats actually owns one though. Subaru CVTs behave far better than any other brand. Modern (2017+) ones have proven to be very reliable also. Would I want a CVT on a sports car...? Nope, thats what manuals are for. But on an everyday commuter car for the masses, they are way better than the wannabe gearheads give them credit for.
@@boost331 Yea. Subaru CVT is fine. People who complain haven't driven one.
I'd rather have a smaller screen and more, and bigger, physical controls.
They need to make this a wrx
Definitely mazda 3 got the better look😅😅 all day.. infront anyway 😅😅
i would change cvt with a manual or automatic and please bring back wrx and sti

Souffles are hard to make - Julia Childs.
Wished they put FB16DIT engine in the RS. Much better engine than the FB25D
I was very interested until the CVT came up - then it's a no, I can't stand them
Subaru CVT is their own in-house tech... drive one. I have a 2016 Imprezza. I would complain about lack of power way more then the CVT itself. 182 HP on the new RS should be enough to take care of that.
@@zergilli9719 I have. My brother has one I think it is also a '16. Also drove a friend's Nissan SUV with a 3.5 V6 CVT.
Hated not knowing what gear I was in. It's like losing control to the computer, which I admit is like leaving an auto in drive is.
But at least I can still pick a gear with an auto because my cars allow that with their shift sticks.
Let's pray this is coming to EU
NO SPARE WHEEL, NO DEAL.
If it were manual. And not a boxer. And not have plastic oil pan with RTV goop in side the boxer. I would go trade in for one. Also need manual parking break, and a real key. Not keyless. Anyone know of anything like that? I know Nissan Version is. But engine is a little to small.
Keep your CVT
Subaru CVT isn't Nissan CVT. Drive it and see.
Nice looking car
This needs to come in WRX/STI form.
CVT? No thank you.
Again, no embedded navigation. What's the problem with Subaru with this car which will cost at least $30,000. Not everyone wants to use their phone for navigation. I don't trust the phone for accurate directions.
You don't trust a more recently and frequently updated maps with live traffic data to help navigate you around because you "don't trust the phone for accurate directions"? Are you right in the head?
Best Regard, Paul
@@CombatVeteranUSNAVY Thanks for making me feel bad about my useless sassy attitude with your positive energy...
Seriously though, sorry for the rudeness. Rough Monday morning so far.
I highly recommend either Android Auto or Apple Carplay integration, either wired or wireless. It makes navigating anywhere so easy. And it helps you to just leave your phone plugged in and use your car's interface for navigation instead, if that's what you're worried about.
Best regards, Justin.
I have a vw golf r from 2018 and the built in nav is a bit lacking tbh. Now, of course, that is a 5 year old system now, and I'm not sure how often it is updated, but I agree, I'm not sure why subaru doesn't have it as standard.
car looks nice but really looks a lot like the impreza hatchbacks from late 2000s They are nice first new cars for people.
Under 250 hp, low torque, and a CVT, no manual option, no thanks
Bleah. More black wheels.
I bet you have big whitewalls. Pimp your ride do you?
….Better served by the WRX except subaru only sells the WRX as a sedan. Loved the old hatch version of the WRX but they claimed North Americans didn’t buy hatchbacks. So now, a decade later, there’s this. Call it a step in the right direction but still a work in progress. All wheel drive makes this a great choice in some regions but otherwise I think the other cars mentioned as competition would be preferred by most drivers.
Awesome job again Subaru!
Want - SE in silver. Great package!
So - they make a RS - " rally sport" badged car - BUT DONT OFFER IT IN MANUAL????!!!! WTF ----VARY LAME of SUBARU - CVT is booorrring. MANUAL is FUN FUN FUN.
no cvt. no thank you.
Why would you use the built in navigation instead of your phone?
I'm 70 years old "Old Fart." I have just a $35.00 monthly fee with Boost Mobile. If I begin to use my phone for Nav, regardless which company I'm using, what would my monthly bill jump to using all that data for navigation?
@@CombatVeteranUSNAVY That is possible if it is not an unlimited data plan. But with built in nav you often lose valuable features. Traffic updates, faster routes, etc. The way the world is building up leaves things ever changing. Built in units rarely if ever get updated.
@@CombatVeteranUSNAVYdownload your map data for your area or your trip while on WiFi. Any searches you might do while out and about wouldn't use much data and all the big map data would already be stored in your phone.
