Thank you so much for sharing these videos. My Grandma had taught me to sew many years ago. I went without a sewing machine for years. I bought my daughters sewing machines for Christmas last year. I ended up with a sewing machine also. Your videos have brought me so far. It's a beautiful memory of my Grandma, even though she has passed away. I love the way you explain things. Thank you so much
Super adorable! I love the customizations on your daughter's dresses as well, they really show how customization can totally transform basic patterns. And the outfit combinations are super fun!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the simple style of both your and your daughter's dresses!!! Your dress pattern has such as simple beauty to it. With the right fabric and print, the design of the dress pattern is perfect for just about any occasion. Add a few accessories like jewelry, a belt, a blazer, sweater, vest, etc. and the outfit has a completely different look. Thank you for another fascinating tutorial in pattern making, Alisa!!!
Thank you for airing your videos! You have inspired me to sew once again after a long hiatus. Your storage ideas for patterns, drafting instructions, fabric choices, etc., have really helped to pull me back in, not to mention your sweet personality. I’m diving back in to see if I can fit this old woman body thanks to you.
I just finished watching this for the 3rd time. It is one of my favorites. I wanted to review how to use the folded paper to create a swing tunic. I have learned never to assume I know how to do something. A quick review is usually a real time saver. I am upcycling a giant man's t-shirt. I want to keep the bottom width but want the top more fitted. Thanks again for your help.
Irene, hello there and I am so glad you found it useful! Your upcycle idea sounds like a really fun and good one :) here's a Members Extra about this dress, maybe you will find it helpful as well, it has more design options - ua-cam.com/video/VHPv7_RO2ow/v-deo.html
Your swing dresses, both small and tall😍 are absolutely gorgeous Alisa, and that cardi is just a perfect addition, as is your baby girl's leggings. Your videos are a joy to watch.....and learn from. Thank you! 🐾🌸
That print is wonderful! My favorite color is purple, accented with silver, white, and black. I love making folded fabric origami butterflies to use as accents and hair ornaments. Sure would love to find that print!
You are soo beautiful Alisa …you truly are. As always your makes are fab. I love that you are not afraid to use colour and that you sew simple classic designs. I have been on a quilt making roll and have just finished my second quilt . Actually the one I just finished is a quillow for my grandson Remi. I’m planning on making one more for my grandson Jase. Then I’m moving on to summer dresses. 😊
This is so great and I think knit is the best for this pattern. I have already made something similar to this by tracing from an existing garment but did not turn well as it was not knit. Thanks Alisa for the inspiration.
I love this video, Thank you. Also, as a seventy-one year old grandmother, may I say without sounding creepy or weird, you are truly gorgeous, as well as talented!
That is really clever. I have tried to "swing out" blouse hems before, but never found the resulting top portion of the dress flattering, probably because the process distorted the top. I can see how this method would help you avoid distorting that portion of the dress. May have to wiggle this into my sewing time!
Oooooh, take a look at the Members Extra for this dress - I talk exactly about top part distortion if you do this with slash and spread method and how to avoid it :) I like this method too, just have to remember to double check waist/hip measurements before cutting.
Barbara, thank you so much for being here! Take a look at one of the recent Members Extra vids - there is an extra bit about doing a dress using this principle, but doing it slightly different. Here it is - ua-cam.com/video/tj8nsj714UM/v-deo.html
I have a solid knit that I have been not sure what I wanted to make. Originally I bought it to make a maxi dress from a tee shirt pattern but I didn't loke how the tee shirt turned out . This was from one of the very first garments I made 2 years ago. Since then it's just been sitting in my stash. Thanks!
I love you ❤ Alisha ji May mata rani give you good health and prosperity and you keep teaching us how to sew and cut in such an easy way 😍🙏 thank you dear
I know you’re not in this season at the moment, but is there a way you could give it a go at making some form of nursing/breastfeeding top? Which of course we can take and turn it into a dress…I have a vision in my mind, and I’ve made a mock up, but I would love to see your approach to it. ❤️🙏 love this dress too btw! Thank you for sharing
I have multiple tutorials how to attach pockets to ANY garment, please find those tutorials on my channel and you will be able to do your own version with pockets.
Thanks so much! You make it look so EASY! The only problem I anticipate is having to have extra-wide fabric to make a longer skirt (or to accommodate a tall body) or to piece it somehow…. Oh…. And I wish that you had shown it with pockets (or would the near bias cut of the fabric at the side seams make pockets a problem?)
I have a tutorial for side seam pockets in the skirt/dress, very detailed tutorial, but I would not do pockets in dresses like this because they are not stable enough to hold stuff, they will pull everything down. As per extra wide fabric - just get extra length to accommodate.
I think your a wonderful lady I can sew basic but I'd love to make some of these dresses for myself im just a little confused on how I draft the pattern for my size im size 18 and wondered if I can make it a longer dress like a maxi I dont know how to
1) you need to use a top pattern that fits you how you want it to fit - loose/tight/or however else. 2) watch the video again if needed - it is very straight forward, just follow the line that I show 3) if you still can't visualize it - take a printer sheet of paper, fold it the same way, put in a small scale patter on it and repeat steps after me.
Start at 3:05 and watch and listen again very carefully when I say "instead of matching these two points - shift the pattern down....". Or... Just use a top pattern that has as much room in the bust as you want so that you don't have to do this
@@ThoughtfulCreativity I'll try it that way. Very cute dress! (Or maybe it is the cute young lady wearing it! haha!) Love the diagonal stripe on jersey.
I have in a circle skirt video. I mostly wait for hem to drop when it is a circular design or might be a heavy garment or a lot of fabric in a dress, but I don't make dresses too often :)
I love to watch you a lot because you have unique way of making patterns. Thank you so much for what you do. Please I need get that roll of pattern paper. I have be looking around but cannot find it. Tell me the name and where to get please. God bless you.
Could you please teach how to make tiered/ruffle layered tops? You know the ones that are 3 or more layers on top of each other and are very good for hiding a tummy and pretending it's just a ruffle layer? Lol
Just looking at your pretty face and your body type I was thinking you'd look even better in a V neck if you're comfortable with that. Just sharing sharing ideas here.
Oh yes, you can make so many different options and styles. I like V necks, but for some reason I really like higher neck shirts/t-shirts. It's the habit, I guess :) but you can use this for sooooooo many different ideas :)
Julia, it all depends on your size and the style of the dress. The most precise, sure way to know - draft the pattern first and then put it on the floor and measure or take it to the store with you. That's what I do :) hope this helps :)
Can you.pkease share a video showing basic drafting of this swing dress for an adult? Secondly can such a swing dress be made from regular cotton fabric or does it have to be a stretchy fabric? Also is the dress cut on a bias or on the grain lines?
That's exactly how you draft a dress for an adult or a child - the principle does not change. CF and CB is on a straight grain. You can use any fabric as long as you have enough ease and width for cotton. If you use medium weight woven cotton - this dress will look like a tent.
Ethel, hi! :) Absolutely! Check out Members Extra video I posted yesterday - we talk about different lengths there. You can make it a top, a tunic, a dress, maxi dress - anything you would like.
Please can you kindly show us how to sew an elesticated knee length shorts? It's for ladies over 60. Many thanks. Maria Micallef Lia from Malta in the Mediterranean sea. God bless you.
It depends on how long and full will be your skirt, you don't have to do it this way, you can simply connect the top with an A-line skirt. You have instruction sheets for it on Google drive and there is Member extra as well :)

Nora, just like mentioned in the video, once done - double check your waist + your hip measurements against the pattern and you will be able to confirms whether you are good to go or you need to make a new side seam for the dress.

I have lost you at the area where you are putting a 'little extra room in the bust' for the one for the adult. I could sure use it!
@@ThoughtfulCreativity I am just not following which line you are using/adding to -- to create the extra room in the bust area.
Start at 3:05 and watch and listen again very carefully when I say "instead of matching these two points - shift the pattern down....". Or... Just use a top pattern that has as much room in the bust as you want so that you don't have to do this

Hello there, I have a cami/tank top video and you can use your bodice block as a starting point for it :)
Thanks! I would like to make one, but I haven’t used any knits before. If I use a woven for a dress, what type of woven fabric to use for a dress?
I just posted to my community tab a video about which fabric to choose for which projects - it will help you out with your question.
Do you have a video on that binder? Great way to organize
I do, go to my channel page and take a look :)

Is this dress made out of woven fabrics or a knit? I prefer to use woven

I already have the tutorial on the channel - go take a look, it is called 1 hour shorts/culottes and make them as long as you need.
Do you have a tutorial for the “burrito” method you mentioned?

I would like to add side pockets too🤷♀️
I have a tutorial for side pockets in the channel - please go and look ;)

Annetta, hi! Thank you for being interested. All information is in the infobox underneath this video regarding memberships, just make sure you read it all. :)
hello maam where to buy nice fabric but the price is not high
Will this work for plus size?
Nora, just like mentioned in the video, once done - double check your waist + your hip measurements against the pattern and you will be able to confirms whether you are good to go or you need to make a new side seam for the dress.

Please, show how to make pattern.
This entire video is about how to make a pattern....
I just have 1 question how do know the actual exact size ( small, medium, large) etc ??
Once you have drafted your dress, take a measuring tape and measure the width of the dress and then compare to your waist and hips - the difference between your measurements and the measurements of the dress will tell you how big the dress will be on you.
