Brilliant, so simple and easy. Makes me wonder why some folk scrabble to buy an expensive complex car. Seems it would be a weight on my shoulders wondering how much repairs would cost. With this wee Toyota it's all so straight forward - truly happy motoring.
When removing the oil filter, slacken it a few turns then slip a poly bag under it (bread wrapper- take the bread out) and when it comes off the engine the excess oil is held in the bag - clean hands.
Kudos, enjoyed the video. When replacing spark plugs ensure you don't cross thread. Actually that a friend do that years ago. What a nightmare! You should add a little used oil on the seal of your new oil filter. As you did, hand tighten and turn back just slightly so the rubber seal can seize back on itself. I like to add the date and mileage on all my air, fuel and oil filters with a Sharpie. This way there is never a doubt has the condition. Cheers
Thanks chief... very straight forward instructuons, needed this so mum could service her car. Little tip though... fill the filter back up then apply new oil round the rubber... just so theres no tapping or air pockets...
Its better to fill the filter by just pouring in more oil. The manual will tell you how much you need with or without filter change. In this case about 300 ml.
Great vid. I'm glad you didn't put any anti seize on your new spark plug threads...neither did I. I wasn't sure, but I know if it's an aluminium head you can do more harm than good with copper slip etc. It's the same engine on my 2008 Sirion, only the oil filter is the paper insert type held in a metal housing, a bit more fiddly to deal with (special tool can be purchased) but it has a drain screw at the bottom to empty the housing of oil before you remove it - so you can do it without making a mess. 😁
Itchy Scratch that's great work! I don't use that on any vehicle. It's in pain in the ass. Didn't realise they share the same engine. So that's good to know!
I always pour in clean, fresh oil when the sump plug is off and let that drip out awhile so it'll get some of the old black oil out from the bottom.Give the PCV valve a good clean out too.P.s DON'T USE THOSE HALFORDS FILTERS.They're garbage and will do more harm mate,i use Blueprint (Amazon) £5.25

Hello! Thank you so much for your video. Could you please tell me what size is the crush washer for the oil pan? Another thing I just remembered, this 1.0 l engine isn't VVT-I, is it?
Hey man, I just bought the same car. Why is it that this model doesn't have a hose from the air intake to the outside? Wouldn't it perform better with one installed?
Nice video mate.Did you check the plug gap B4 installing? Mine are always off out of the box and need to be gapped correctly even though it says pre gapped on the box. Cheers
Just got a 2007 Yaris 1.5 liter. As a note to share: in owners manual it says on page 175. (183 on online pdf) "Use only iridium tipped spark plugs. Do not adjust gaps for engine performance or smooth driveability." Denso: SK16R11 NGK: IFR5A11 Page 285 gap 1.1 mm or 0.043 inch.
There are 3 and 4 cylinders 1.0 vvt-i engines. I have a 20 year old yaris with 4 cylinders that also looks different than the one in the vid. The newer ones got 3, so it’s prolly just that.
i think your car is misfiring check your conrods, plugs and injectors. as for consuming oil there is a few things to check mine was doing that and it was the rings which were finished but can also be pcv valve if its blocked also check breather pipes for the engine if there are no cracks.
Its possible. But ideally you need to be able to get the car level to check oil level. Unfortunately on a slight slope will throw it off slightly and will also probably keep a bit of old oil in the engine.
Low idle rpm can be caused by a carbonized throttle body. Also, If you have an old mechanical throttle with cable, the idle screw could just need re adjustment due to wear over the years. Ideally, get a obdii scan tool and measure your idle rpm when the engines has warmed up, for the 1.0 vvt-i, it should be around 700-800 when warm. When it drops below that usually the heavy vibrations start.
You have to remove the headlight and for that you need to loose the bumper on both wheel sides and in the motor area. You don't need to remove the bottom of the bumper but be careful to not force it when you remove the headlight. Each headlight has 3 screws you have to remove. Sometimes you can also replace the headlights bulbs without loosing the bumper but you need to have really small hands and I don't advice that because the headlight bulbs need to enter in a specific position and you need to remove and put back again the rubber protection around the bulb (protects against humidity and rain )...
Hello, Can you tell me please where do you put your hood holder when hood is down? I think my broke but I cant find original position for it to try and fix it.
Afraid not. It started tappy as most cars do after a service as it takes a second or two to get the pressure up and pump the oil back around the engine. The tappy sound comes from the top of the engine not lower down where the filter is located.

Thank you so much. Just finished servicing my Toyota yaris myself. Fast and easy. You saved me money of paying someone to do what I can also do.

I did put oil around the rubber. I'm just in the habit of not putting oil in the filters. As normally they are sideways or upside down etc.
Its better to fill the filter by just pouring in more oil. The manual will tell you how much you need with or without filter change. In this case about 300 ml.
I had this car for 5 years, it's been really good and easy to work on. But was very bad with exhaust leak!
Just take it to any competent muffler shop and they can fix it
Just bought this exact car today
Thanks for this vid have same car, my dad was trying to find where the oil filter was and cldn't, so after watching this he did 👍
It is good for engine to fill up with oil the new oil filter. And then instaling on engine. In Yaris it is easy because of vertical position.
You can do this yes. I just have a habit of spilling so I didn't.
The filter gets filled up anyway as soon as you pour in the new oil. No need to create an oily mess.
Thank you for the vid! You forgot the washer for the oil drain plug?
Do one sparkplug at a time less chance of dropping something down one of the holes
Super video. You showed me all I needed to see for doing mine :)
Awesome!
Just out of curiosity, how do you know if you need new spark plugs, what starts to happen and what are the effects of warn ones, good video btw!👍🏼
Lewis Hughes thanks. Miss fires. Sluggish. Hesitant to accelerate
Lewis the plugs should be replaced every 40,000 km!!

Yeah the 1.0 1kr-fe engine is a Daihatsu design. But now being owned by Toyota, it was put it in the Aygo (and C1/107), Yaris and IQ.👍
Itchy Scratch I didn't know that. So I've learned something new today :) thanks for enlightening me
Usually the spark plug manufacturer gives hints about using anti seize.

What about the cabin air filter
I didn't expect a 3 cylinder since the 1.3 is a fourcyl..
Thank you great watch 😊
Do you think this car will be happy sitting at 70mph? I'm thinking of getting this car
Yep. Used it back forth to Manchester. Fine on motorway
Thank you Bro,
How would you install a cold air intake cone on that air filter component?
My car looks just like yours but has the powerful 1.5L engine. I can only imagine how slow your car must be!
These 1.0 aint too bad but ins and road tax is cheap.

What a peculiar little engine. The dipstick goes in sideways! I didn't see you use a new crush washer on the oil pan plug.

Nice vid though ☺
Janjan bullshit!!
The Comet let me guess..... just plug the coil back to lift the unscrewed spark plugs instead of using the clamp.
You can if your socket does not have a magnet or rubber boot to hold the plug in place.

Never drop your spark plugs like that in the cilinderhead.
You risk bending a brand new spark plug.
