That’s my daily driver! I have it in right wheel version. It has 235.000 km but I am taking good care of it: oil changes every 3000km (5W40), service every 9000km, I have changed (preemptively) almost any bolt on with new parts and lately the catalytic converter and a stainless steel cat back exhaust. That engine has a lot of character with the right exhaust. One thing to be considered by any owner: the air intake box! For an unknown reason (possibly for cost savings) Toyota didn’t put a pipe to feed the intake with cold air. Instead they left the little opening just Over and to the left of the exhaust manifold! I had a very hard time accelerating from stop in the summer heat and traffic here in Cyprus! I solved that problem with a custom pipe from the air box opening to the opening just behind the front grill. That little change had an enormous impact in the engine performance (and on fuel consumption). My only guess is that in models such as Aygo or C1 (that shares the same engine) the engine is far more to the front and just behind the grill, so the air is much colder. In Yaris though the engine sits almost 40cm deeper in the bay… Totally, that generation of Yaris was the most practical. There is storage areas everywhere, three glove boxes, four cup holders, trays under the seats… sure, it isn’t that stylish as the newest models but it’s ok. And the ride quality is amazing (at least on my 15” wheels).
Hi which engine do you have?? I have the 1.3 vvti 2SF FE and I have the check engine light with the code P0420 the one of the catalyst or the oxygen sensors, my mechanic said the catalyst is ok and I changed both oxygen sensors and the problem is still there, the thing is that I always pass the emissions test of gases here in Spain so I don’t know what else could be, I also used a catalytic converter and oxygen sensors cleaner and nothing happens. Another question is what modification did u do, I’m Spanish and don’t know exactly what u did
@@incognito6195 I have the 1.0L engine, the 1KR-FE. The only modifications i did are the exhaust (with a custom made stainless steel), a new metallic catalytic converter and a custom air intake hose. From what you said, i suspect the new Oxygen sensors for the check engine light. If your mechanic didn't replace them with OEM sensors (from Toyota) you will have that error forever, even though your car works perfectly. The european models from Toyota are very sensitive in terms of default emissions values in their ECU and most third party sensors are set to meet global standards. If you have original sensors though, then its possibly your converter the problem, or (more unlikely) your engine consumes small amounts of oil and that poisoned your converter over time... i had that issue on another car. But, anyway, if you are ok with emission tests just ignore the problem.

I'm thinking about buying one from 2011, one question is the speedometer can be switched from analogue to digital at any time? Because the Yaris I've seen almost all have analog speedometers
I replaced my throttle pedal unit and reset the ECU and it was much better after that. Previous owner had blocked off the engine managment lamp! @@krus180
@@krus180 - I think he meant acceleration, not top speed. The acceleration is very slow in the Yaris with 1.0 KRE engine. The same engine in a base model (very light!) I can see from your driving the 2009 model still has that horrible steering that you have to exactly center, manually, that the 1999 Yaris already had, and all Aygos from that era. It makes the car completely undriveable for me. Many people don't seem to care but I cannot get used to it.
They were never perfect. It's just that some people can live with it. I have now driven three. I owned one. Literally went to the dealership to try another one, it was identical, as is the Aygo, as is my friend's yaris that I drove half a year ago. I just cannot believe it's supposed to be that way, but it is. @@georgepapadopoulos7354
What you are describing (the steering failing to centre) happens in these cars when the electric power steering motor begins to fail. Same fault happens in the Suzuki Swift... a LOT!
Is it me or the interior is a bit.. bland? i mean i know it's a '' old car '' and probably not the '' best version '' but.. my 1995 Citroen AX interior has more things in it!
It's almost the same in Toyota Prius III. Just a giant digital screen in the middle and a little on-board computer, the rest of the cockpit is basically empty. Very boring car when it comes to interior. The only car that is more boring than this, is probably Tesla Model 3, which has only one big on-board computer in the middle and that's it.
It's not that old compared to your citroen lol. Everything is easy to see in the binnacle. Its well put together and practical. You soon get used to the central view and I enjoyed my yaris ownership. Did over 30,000 miles then sold it for more than I paid for it in 2010 with 140,000 miles.
