  • Premiere Scene's Claire Bueno and William MacLaughlan were enlightened as Wisdom of Changes received a UK Premiere. This inspirational documentary charts the story of pioneer and humanitarian Richard Willem who in transcribing of the I Ching (The Book Of Changes) introduced it's teachings to the Western world. Join us as we interview director Bettina Willem as she reveals what started out as her grandfather's story became a journey of connecting with her own past. We also grabbed a fortuitous opportunity to speak to editor Asher Tlalim about how he edited the documentary to reaffirm Doest philosophy; narrator Jonathan Pryce shares his captivation with the material; Ronit Yoeli Tlalim tells us how she ignited the project; Screenwriter Phil Parker enlightens us on the fruition of the film title and Jane Corbett expresses the tricky process of translating the sentiment and the tone of the documentary from German to English.

I watch this film three times. I just published my book: I Ching and Modern Science; Its Application for the Benefit of Human Society by iUniverse in August, 2017. Many references came from Mr.Richard Wilhem 's book: The I Ching or Book Of Changes. When German troops attacked Chinese villages, he intervened as mediator, helping to avoid further bloodshed. It touch my heart, I cry; God's love manifested via Richard Wilhem. I believe strongly the Nobel Prize for world peace should award to him retroactively, especially in twenty-first century dangerous modern world.

My grandpa (Richard Wilhelm's son) who also lived in China even was on the Kenpeitai wanted list for aiding the Chinese. My grandma told me how they knocked the door and asked for her husband, who wasn't at home at this time. This made my family flee China and move to Germany - no good place to live in in 1939 either...

This is an extremely important film. I am glad it has been completed. Richard Wilhelm made a great contribution to Western civilization through his translation of the I Ching and it is good that this fact will finally be recognized.

+Richard Palmer perhaps but his book is far to esoteric to read off the bat. I am reading another simpler version first. His is the cornerstone as all the others make reference to his but way to unstructured for me without reading any background first

The core of the I Ching (Lo Shu) is the same as the magic square for Saturn. The 64 hexagrams match to the magic square of Mercury. Ba Gua (or Pa Kua) is the martial art application of the I Ching. The changes that make up reality are best described as mercurial in nature - difficult to grasp. I believe that all the planetary magic squares are included in the I Ching also. Terence McKenna found that the King Wen sequence related to lunar phases, and the Moon is the 9 x 9 magic square.

The I Ching is equivalent to the old testament bible in east Asia and is probably the most important text in the modern world. The teaching is fading in East Asia, not only in China but also in Japan and other parts of Asia, which are sadly more or less Westernized to its core by now. We need to bring back the wisdom of I Ching to the world. The world population and economy is projected to start contracting soon, and the World has no philosophical model for a shrinking society. The I Ching is our only resort. Covering both growing Ying times and Shrinking Yang times. It is probably the only solution left for the 21st century. Thank you Shi Richard Wilhelm. We need to go back to the most ancient of Eastern texts to solve the most Western of problems in civilization facing us now. Astronomy and Astrology had the same roots in Ancient times but with Astronomy we have set men on the moon. So forget about the fortune telling side of I Ching and let us concentrate on the Book of Change so we can make a peaceful transition into the Age of Aquarius.

In this turmoil world, I strongly recommend all the leaders in every country should view this film and assign intellect adviser to the country study this ancient I Ching work. Why, in Chinese all dynasties in past 5000 years, the only one last about 8 hundred years is the Zhou dynasty( all other dynasties last about 50 to 350 years only) when I Ching was created and practiced faithfully.

Didn't Richard return to christianity in his last days?. Carl Jung has to say something about it. What about having a balanced view?
