The Soundtrack is mesmerizing, The Car Showcase is alot (Especially for PC ver.)

Hot Pursuit and NFS 2 SE, can't decide which one is the best for me, I love both equally.
Nowadays it's porsche unleashed, but back when I was a kid, I played the crap out of hot pursuit. My dad hacked a batmobile into the game, so I was catching them speeders all day long. Loved it.
High Stakes and Porsche were my favorites, having replayed all of them recently, most of them are actually quite good.
A shame you didn't add Motor City Online. There is an offline port with reduced functionality, but at least you can play a few races against the AI.
The thing that I liked from this era of NFS
- Simple Arcade Gameplay
- The Showcase Section
- Tracks looks so exotic and heartwarming
- The Soundtrack is composed for the game itself, thanks to Rom di Prisco & Saki Kaskas (Rest In Peace)
- Those Cheat & Secrets is for fun and some neat extra added in every title of this era

NFS 1 on Playstation 1 is the game where you learn what's a Major Skill Issue.
What you forgot to mention was how advanced the tuning was in Porsche Uleashed. Instead of stage 1 to 3 you had a choice of individual parts like flywheel, gearbox etc. I also enjoyed flipping used cars for profit. Moby Dick for example was well worth buying crashed, fixing and selli g.
That NFS 1 guy was amazing, hope he comes back to the series :V

God, I love the original NFS era so much. It's just so simple with straightforward games that are extremely fun, yet ultimately overshadowed by that of the Black Box era. It gives me so much joy when people eventually talk about this era (LGR made a video of the first 5 games in 2016 iirc), because I just think these games are so underrated.
I always say that true NFS are the first 6 games, but the young people always argue with me that Underground is the real NFS and even the game that invented the series, clueless...
They are just being nostalgic because underground series was the first nfs game they played. My first nfs games were NFS 2, NFS 3: HP and NFS HP2
I also have played NFS PU on the PS1 back when I had it.
Every game are the true NFS, start a fight because of fanboyzism its unecessary. The 90s NFS have a big important influence to the 2000s games, both decades have decent games.
As usually, driving a Skyline solves the major skill issue
I miss the classic NFS formula of exotic supercars racing on tracks all around the world instead of just one American city. I feel like the newest game to use the Formula is actually Driveclub, minus the cops of course.
High stakes was my first NFS. All I remember is crashing the Porsche in the village 😂
Sadly the big part of fanbase thinks the franchise started with Underground in 2003.
Yea and back when Rivals was around, UG fanboys were crying for the series to go back to it's "roots" and in other words, begging for UG3.
I started with MW2012 and loved the game on my PS3 playing over 300 hours on it in 2013. But now it's clunky as fuck to drive into but I still enjoy to play it some time to time listening to "Zoom" and "Cast away."
The classic era of NFS was amazing, just like BB there was a lot of distinction between entries, making them all stand out for something unique. Porsche Unleashed, High Stakes, and HP have all aged gracefully, too, especially PU thanks to its car culture and tracks, and they all had awesome handling models, figures that 20yrs+ old games have better physics than modern NFS.
PU may have all been about Porsche, but there's enough variety to avoid fatigue or repetition in this game. Definitely my favorite from this era. Speaking of which, you've covered the different ports the games had, but surprisingly the PS2 version of HP2 got left out, which is the definitive version of that game, with superior graphics and better tracks, its world map has a lot more detail as well.
Forgive me for the question, but what is BB? I'm really trying my memory but I can't find out!

Hands down... Need for Speed High Stakes has the BEST MAIN MENU UI AND SOUNDTRACK in the history of racing game, it's just perfect.
I agree! The soundtrack in High Stakes (Road Challenge) and Porsche Unleashed is damn great to my ears.
I just bought NFS Most Wanted 2012 for My Ps Vita. Playing on the go is really cool. Played almost every NFS. Underground to Unbound.
The PS1 version of High Stakes will forever be my favourite NFS game. I like a couple of the later games but they feel a bit too arcady and gimmicky for my taste. High Stakes just hits the spot for me- there’s not many cars, tracks or races but everything works very well and almost every car in the game is a dream car for me.
Also it’s my first NFS game and one of the first games I ever played so I’m massively biased. Getting to grow up with the Australian edition that was somehow the release with the most cars was cool.

This is a very well done and comprehensive video, I really learned quite a bit of things about the older NFS titles. As someone who jumped into NFS with Porsche 2000, it is still my favorite NFS title till this day. The graphics, gameplay, soundtrack, showcases and overall presentation was, and is still, the best in my opinion. While that particular game was only limited to Porsche cars it still holds a special place in my heart because of what it was at the time, it was (and still is) just a fun game overall. Great video as always, I can tell you put a lot of work into this! 🤗

Alongside HP2 and Underground, my dad had High Stakes and Porsche Unleashed and let me play them on his Gateway 2000 laptop. Underground was both of our favourites, but I still played a lot of the other ones, too.
I didn't play HP1 until a few years later when I had a PS2. It's funny because I have nostalgia for the PS1 version of HP but not HS or Porsche, lol. NFS2 on PS2 emulation is also extremely buggy and crashed when I tried to pause the game. 😂 I got an actual PS1 now so no worries there. Still haven't played NFS1 in any capacity yet, but maybe I should. I have my PS1 plugged in right now anyway...

FYI none of this counts if you played it on an emulator, it's a very different experience
Yugo Unleashed is clearly the best NFS game
The PS1 Version of the old NFS games feels better
NFS 2 doesn't feature the extra cars and tracks, NFS 3 Hot Pursuit have a lack of car content, High Stakes have problems with frame rate + lack of content and Porsche Unleashed have worse gameplay. Mostly, the PC versions of these games looks better, NFS 1 its better on 3DO since have the cutscenes.
I can't get tired of PS1's High Stakes, imo the best NFS... Don't hate me people!

The best NFS1 ist the vanilla PC version.
