I have the Ashdown signature GZR Head of doom amp, I run it through a Genz Benz Uber 212 cab, that combo create the best sounding bass rig I ever played😎 Ashdown needs more love and attention in the bass world IMO❤️
So happy you guys did a video on this amp. One of the best, and Ashdown don't get nearly as much love as they should. I have this amp in the 500 watt version and it kills. Also I have their DI preamp pedal.. it's a thing of beauty
Yeah Ashdown is criminally underrated Atleast here in Australia. People always recommend Ampeg, Fender and Hartke straight away. I've had a ha3500 and 4.5xl from Hartke and in my opinion - both with a jazz bass - the Ashdown is a better product.
I have an Evo-III ABM-900. Total overkill running a 1x15 and 2x10 abm cabs. But OMGs. It's absolutely glorious! I do still prefer my Hyperluminal compressor. And I still use various OD and fuzz. But that's it. The head and cabs do the rest.
The ABM series to me is the only solid state bass amp that can truly sound like a tube amp but also has the versatility to do lots of other things if you want it to.
For anyone interested in these amps, you can currently purchase the rack mountable made in the UK Custom Shop 600W model direct from Ashdown via their "Last Chance" page for less than the mass produced head. I ordered during the height of C0V!D and the lead time was about 6 months, however.
I got precisely one of them: lighter and with a smaller (aguilar-ish) footprint, if you unscrew the mounting supports on the sides sits perfectly on top of a 2x10 and sounds killer. I usually add a 1x15 for bigger open air gigs: I find this is the perfect combo but it' an overkill for most indoor pub gigs
So I've been playing my head 22 which is basically the 600 watt ABM through the 210 410 stack. Last night I got froggy and I put it through my dark glass 212 and holy crap it unleashed a whole another beast the cab voicing of the dark glass stuff with the focus on all the mids and a bit more the up top end made things really rowdy. And now has me wondering if I should swap my ABM stack for a stack with the neos. Also has me wondering if Ashdown would consider making some 212 or even 412 cabs.
That is my exact dream set up!8 My first bass amp (I just crossed over from guitar just over a year ago) was the Ashdown Studio 8 (SDOTD). I swapped in a better speaker and cut the port tube as required by the speaker. I sounds phenomenal! Very similar to what you presented here. I have two other name brand amps that I like, but I keep going back to the Ashdown. It has the sound in my head. I did the research into what combination of Ashdown Bass Magnifier and cab I would be my dream rig, then I found this video and you confirmed my choice!
I'd always go for the 600w version of this head - It's identical in features, dimensions and weight (I think) and will be powerful enough for any gig. I see you don't mind hitting the red zone on the VU meter. Is it ok to overdrive the pre amp like that?
The BASS AMP 300, misunderstood but really cheap, sounds great with 2x10 + 1x15. And more with boxes of joy, I mean Ashdown drive plus & DARKGLASS vintage microtubes. It kills !!
Head of Doom - My build quality was a bit iffy - screw missing. holes for handle don't line up - im gonna have to get them re-drilled. not made in the UK!! It just flat out says made in China on the back - not the uk custom shop (unless that is in China). But...I'll live with it, because it sounds awesome, and looks awesome. and it's half the weight of my old Trace Elliot 350 but its a 600, and sounds even better. The controls feel nice. And my gripes can be fixed - just like the amp if something goes wrong.
HA! ..yeah rigth,..like I 🇺🇸would nor could afford to not have ‘em to rip it 🎵🎸✨up here in 🇯🇵Japan! (Shall I bring up the cost🤨) Besides, you folks may get a hold of ‘em way sooner if you asked MusicMan personally by the time mine would reach Ya’‼️ Haha Hee Hee!🤘🏾😁Good on Ya’ to feature that Ashdown Amp!! Always thought that it deserved way more attention than it ever gets! Kinda popular in studios for renting in Japan! Beating out those Acoustic & Ampegs ones for a good run!! The one I used sounded REAL GOOD hooked up to an Epifani 4-10 ✨🎵🎸🔊🔊b(‘_
got the rack ears and rack handles for my svt 7 pro. mounted it in the box. ferocious bass amp. my 4x10 cab handles 1,200 watts continuous. at 4 ohms. 1,000 watts ,cab has detachable casters.and a boss eq 200 through the effects loop. have a good day.
not if you turn it down haha!!! But seriously - I have The 600 (H.O.D) model running into a 2x12 (8ohm) and if i have the input on 1 and the output on 1 its a nice practice volume. Cheers!
Been an ABM user for 14 years now. I have two and neither have ever let me down. Power and flexibility for days…
Glad you've got on with the ABM's so well!
When Josh comes in on that FX loops demo!! 🤘
Excellent demo featuring all the amp options with a stellar cast of players. Thanks.

agreed. i got my fisrt ashdown abot a year ago and i've now had 5 and sold off my others.
Ah thanks mate!

Hey Marnus. Do you believe a ABM 600 would be too loud for home use? It's the only model I can get
@@VdeVengamin you can. You can always turn down the output volume so I think it'll be okay
@@marnuswessels1 Thank you for your reply. Sure, but does it still sound that good at low volumes?

Such a great showcase of this iconic amp! I've been playing a RM500 for years now, but am ready to jump on that ABM ship. Love Ashdown!
I've been using the Ashdown ABM series close to 25 years.
An extremely versatile amp for sure.
That's the entire time we've been making them!
@@AshdownBassAmps yes it is.
Johnnys piece with reverb is so pretty!🥹
Yes!!! I love all my Ashdown heads! And my 210/410 stack is monster

The tone of that black SG model??!!?! Wow!!! That is awesome

Pro tip: you can also ask them to deliver it in a regular head shell. They will do that at no additional cost ;-)
Sadly it won’t let me select the United States as a shipping address.
@@JennyMayUSAF Oh man, forreal? That suuucks. They must have changed their shipping policy. I'm sorry
Fantastic tones, great demo
Never heard such a crispy sounding ashdown!

Yep agree. It sounds exactly how I want to DI'd to an interface recording..
Amazing thick sound. I have the ashdown 300
practice space my band uses has one of these and I love it
I've got the Geezer version of the head, it sounds like my old Trace Elliot but a little warmer. One of the best class AB amps, you can buy.

yes it is. they can take it
@Go HM-2 Yourself it's a useful tool and accurate enough to do the job
I think the meters really useful. Especially when using multiple pedals and making sure each one is the same volume.
@Go HM-2 Yourself not at all.

My abm900 still going strong
Even Ashdown bass combo sounds great! For instance the AAA-120-15T.
Yeah this combo has a surprising amount of tone options and is perfect for small gigs with a trio.
With a good efficient cab this head is good for almost any gig...

I see ashdown I clicked
Didn't they just released evo v?
Yes
Review the HoD and/or PoD please
I just got the head 22 and it's my favorite amp so far.
Ashdown is so good.
Sure might of been cool to hear a MusicMan Sting Ray or Bongo thru that Bad Ass Ashdown‼️🤨
Send us those basses and we will happily play them through it! 😅

have you ever try the pf series from ampeg? it's kind a cool concept but they are famous for breaking...
Are all the parameters going to the DI out? Tube, EQ, Comp & Sun harmonic?
Sad you didn’t crank the Tube knob all the way.. that’s something we Really needed to hear…
I had an Ashdown combo... it was a pos ... now I have Messa and Boom Bass Cab and the system kills ...
Mr. Gibson over there... 😆😆🤙

Had the 500 watt version got rid of it because the whole circuit board blew out =/.
When it was working it was also noisy as fuck.
can anyone tell me what josh is playin on 9:38 if he’s not improvising?
What wattage does it run at 8 ohms?
Why include a pedal in this eval?
would the ABM600 be too loud for home?
