Catholicism is the largest branch and Catholic Church is the largest among churches. A Latin Catholic will not enter for prayer or share a Syrian Catholic Church; they will not share a Marthoma Church; they will not share a Pentecost Church; they will not share a Salvation Army Church; they will not share a Seventh Day Adventist Church; they will not share an Orthodox Church and they will not share a Dalit Christian Church generally. Dalit Christians have no political patronage / representation and budget allotment. Knanaya Catholics practise endogamy and keep apartheid with other Christians. In 2011, St Thomas Christians form 70.73%, Latin Catholics 13.31%, Protestant Groups 5.9%, Church of South India 4.5%, Pentecostal 4.31% and Dalit + Nadar Christians 2.6%. Major Protestant branches are Adventism, Anabaptism, Anglicanism, Baptists, Lutheranism, Methodism, Moravianism, Quakerism, Pentecostalism, Plymouth Brethren, Reformed Christianity and Waldensianism. St Thomas Christian churches using East Syriac Rite - Syro Malabar Catholic Church and Chaldean Syrian Church - and churches using West Syriac Rite: Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, Marthoma Syrian Church, St Thomas Evangelical Church of India, Syro Malankara Catholic Church and Malabar Independent Syrian Church. Knanaya is an endogenous St Thomas Christian denomination. St Thomas Christians claim to derive status that they were caste Hindus before conversion. Syrian Christians used to take ritual baths after physical contact with non-caste Hindus and outcaste Hindus. Catholics are Eastern Catholics and Latin Catholics. Pentecostal St Thomas Christians (Nasranis) are rite less. Pentecostal denominations are India Pentecostal Church of God, Assemblies of God in India, Church of God in India and Pentecostal Mission. They do not share any ecclesiastical governance. The Church of South India belongs to Anglican Communion. Oriental Protestant Churches are Malankara Marthoma Syrian Church and St Thomas Evangelical Church of India. There are two warring factions among Syro Malabar Catholics. Jacobites are split into Orthodox and Yakobaya. There are un-ending conflicts for control of dioceses. Generally, Christians have mobility within their respective denominations only; intermarriages between different denominations are rare. These denominations are caste equivalents.
Abrahamic religions do not advocate any stratification. Medieval Europe had a caste system similar to Hinduism with priests on top, then Kshatriyas, merchants followed by sudras and mlecchas. In many western countries, caste based systems are still existent to a small extent, but religion-ethnicity-profession-based concepts are predominant. Caste is still prevalent in Basque country, Spain. For centuries, Cagots, who had the same skin colour and religion, were endogamous who lived mainly in the Basque region of France and Spain, were treated untouchable. They had to use segregated doors in churches, drink from segregated places and receive communion on long wooden spoons. In Italy, Balkan countries and Eastern Europe, caste based systems are still followed.
People of Indian origin, born and brought up in western countries, do not generally carry caste prejudices, but are caste sensitive in Asian countries. Russia had a system where a Noble could rape a Peasant and murder a serf without consequences. The caste system in Brazil, Jamaica and Haiti was loose enough to permit mobility between groups just above and below. One drop of coloured blood made one coloured in the USA, but a few drops of coloured blood made one white in Brazil. The caste system in the USA excluded all non-whites, while the social system in Brazil victimized only dark skinned people. Brazil does not have a formal caste system presently, but social stratification based on race, income and education still exist. North America recognizes Black and White. Zimbabwe and Rwanda face caste based inequalities.

Christianity is a religious category, not a caste or tribe category. But Hindu converts to Christianity refused to shed their caste identity frequently. Caste based occupations held by Dalits perpetuated even after becoming Christian. Caste in Christianity is the social stratification that persists among Christians based on the caste at conversion time. Quite often Christians have mobility within their castes only. There are Christian Nadar, Mudaliar, Yadav, Reddy, Sikh and Ezhava. Many Christians correctly or incorrectly, identify with lower castes, SC and ST for reservation. The term Dalit Christian or Christian Dalit is used to describe those Dalit converts to Christianity from Hindu, Muslim and Sikh religions. Many Dalits converted to Christianity to escape from untouchability and for social mobility and self-respect are largely discriminated against because of residual leftover practices. Even Dalit bishops are buried separately.
According to Christianity, the caste system is of the devil and should be doomed and dismounted. The Portuguese in Goa, Malabar and Kochi gave Portuguese surnames to Christian converts to obliterate their original caste so that it became difficult to identify later. Converts from diverse castes were either put together or a common new name given. Roman Catholics, Jacobites, Orthodox, Marthomites, Chaldeans and Chardos are forward caste Christians. According to the constitution, ‘No person who professes a religion different from the Hindu, Sikh or Buddhist religion shall be deemed to be a SC member.’ There is no such categorization for ST. Dalit Christians are categorized as general candidates in some states and as BC, OBC or MBC in some other states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Christianity is flexible towards casteism in Hindustan. Among Indian Christians, 33% are SC and 24% ST. Christianity is the majority religion in Nagaland, Mizoram and Meghalaya and a major one in Arunachal Pradesh.
