Wild Manatees Join Us in a Florida Spring!

Nice swim in Jan 2024 in one of Central Florida’s crystal clear springs, when this momma Manatee decided to bring her baby over to meet us.
No this isn’t the Crystal River tourist stuff floating on foam with life preservers. This is a real wild encounter.
Manatees use the springs every winter to stay warm. The springs keep a constant 70s degree temp all year.
Federal & state laws protect the manatees, you cannot pursue or harass or touch them. They however can come to you all they want.
Do your homework if you decide to visit any of Central Florida’s amazing springs too. Not all allow swimming, some only allow kayaks and paddle boards, while others are only swimming. Some are closed completely in winter as manatee refuges.
