Next time, try placing a damp tea towel under the bowl. This will help prevent it from sliding. Also, you can put the mixture into the fridge, if the butter gets too soft, to harden it up again.

often, it is easier to use a pasty cutter if you *_roll_* it rather than push straight down. softer doughs are usually not an issue, but it can help a lot with stiffer doughs/pastries.

One trick to work the butter into the flower easier is try freezing the butter, then use a cheese grater to cut up butter. That is a southern biscuit trick.

When spreading the cinnamon mixture it's normally done like a spread, but many bakers found it easier to spread the butter, then sprinkle the cinnamon and brown sugar separately and mixed.

😊All I can do is smile while Elana is in the kitchen doing her thing. Cresent are very versatile but it is a long day in the kitchen because you need to refrigerate in between each lamination folding. You also use less flour when rolling the dough......flour the rolling pin or put parchment paper 📜 on top of the do so you do not need flour. You did a great job your first time out. The pig in a blanket is a favorite kids snack. A hot dog or sausage roll is used. Look it up on line. They are even served in a miniature version as appetizers for parties. 👏Brava Mrs H.

A little tip for the butter is to freeze it and then grate it using the large grate on a box grater. Makes it easier to work the butter into the flour. And Elana's been absorbing everything that you've been doing for your content like a sponge. She hears you talking and see's you doing and that's all they need to learn. She's picked up Mr. H's fist boom. I wouldn't be surprised if she could count a bit from all the times you and Mr. H rated your cooking. She's going to be Mummies Little Helper and I think she'll be quite good at it because she has fun helping you.

Cresent rolls are great for chicken salad sandwiches or tuna salad sandwiches . . and yes, you can use them with sausage gravy over them ...I like them also just as they are as long as they are a bit buttery with my coffee for breakfast! Or a bit of honey! Cresent rolls are delicious! They are good for a breakfast sandwich ie: egg, cheese and bacon . . .
suggestion: rub flour on the rolling pin...helps a bit....

Well done. Just so you know, these are the last thing to go into the oven before dinner so they come to the table piping hot. At least the plain ones. And they are even better served warm with salted butter (from a moo cow, not a plant, I mention that because some people apparently think of margarine as butter).

Just a tip. . . when you are "booking" the dough (roll outand fold in thirds, etc.) It helps to form the layers if you wrap it and put it back in the refrigerator for ten minutes or so. Stretches out the time it takes to chill it each time, but makes a flakier end product! Still--doing a great job, and Elana is really blossoming right in front of out eyes--BLY

I make Apple Dumplings out of cresant rolls:
    Ingredients
2 (8 ounce) cans crescent rolls
    2 sticks butter
    1 1/2 cups brown sugar
    1 teaspoons vanilla
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/2 cup 7 Up (or other lemon soda)
2 apples (Golden Delicious or Granny Smith)
Cook Mode Prevent your screen from going dark
    Instructions
    Butter a 13 x 9 inch baking dish.
Preheat the oven at 350 F.
Peel and core apples, than cut each apple into 8 slices
Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll and place in a buttered dish.
Melt butter, stir in sugar, vanilla and cinnamon, and when it’s thickened, remove from heat and pour over the dumplings.
Pour the soda in the middle and along the edges of a pan(not over the rolls)
Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until they become golden brown.
    Serve warm.

Baby H did so good, she probably could’ve rolled it out if she had the roller pin with loose handles! The fillings will stay if you add them horizontally at the top (widest part of dough), once rolled you can pinch and fold the ends to try and minimize any leaks. You will sort it out the more you make them.

You are doing great Mrs H! I love making dough of all kinds! A food processor will cut in the butter in about 10 pulses and you can cut up the butter into sugar cube sizes before freezing and then add it frozen to the flour with the wet ingredients. Flaky!! Also I try to use as little flour as i can when rolling out as it keeps your dough more tender when you bake it. Sometimes I even brush off any excess. Martha Stewart loves dough also
But you are fearless and a star baker for even attempting so many different things! Brava!

Making puff pastry from scratch for croissants aka laminated dough is such a pain in the butt lol. I made it once in culinary school and vowed to never do it again. 😂

I use crescent rolls to make chicken rolls, you make a filling of cooked shredded chicken breast, cream cheese, finely diced green onion and celery and a bit of salt and pepper to taste. Fill some crescent roll dough with it and bake them off, then make a sauce of cream of chicken soup, sour cream and just enough milk to thin it to a sauce consistency to pour over the roll on the plate.

Try Apple dumplings with croissant dough. Take triangles of thin dough and place 2 granny smith apple slices and roll them in the dough like a blanket. Place each one in a pan. Mix butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and this part sounds crazy but it will help make the sauce, one cup or can of mountain dew soda, if you don't have that then a citrus soda works. Pour sugar, butter mixture over the apples wrapped in dough and bake at 350. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Those look delicious! Merry Christmas! 😂
I love to mix softened cream cheese with sliced green olives, and some olive "juice" and bake it in crescent rolls. So good! You could also do cream cheese and crab with chopped green onions. 😋

Regarding the pasty blending, you're doing fine, but you could be more aggressive and a good way to facilitate that is to put a wet, well wrung out dish cloth under your bowl. They have silicone mats available, but you already have dish cloths and they were just fine for keeping the bowl from sliding away from you.
As for the cheese - the dreaded American cheese works quite well in things like this, but also any thinly sliced cheese. My choice would be Swiss, but that's me. :)
And, finally, Elana sprinklin' flour is one of the sweetest things I've ever seen. :)

Suburban Chicago, Illinois. When are you going to visit the upper Midwest?? I'm pleased you made your rolls 'from-scratch'. We don't use any processed foods, as they're LOADED w/too much salt/sugar/preservatives!!! PS - you were using the pastry blender tool Perfectly!!!

You're right, crescent rolls are a bit like cornbread mix in that you can almost do anything you imagine with them, sweet or savory. I have used the dough as the topper for a family size chicken pot pie. My mom has used it in an apple and berry cobbler sort of dessert. And the famous one in our house growing up was a version of pigs in a blanket, where the blanket was a crescent roll and the pig was an American breakfast sausage link wearing a little bit of cheese. Bake those up and eat with a runny fried egg and some OJ = yummm.

Oh... also, I prefer to freeze the butter partially and cut it into the small sized cubes myself, but you have to work efficiently because obviously hands are warm and butter melts. That way, the incorporation with the flour step can happen much quicker and easier with less butter meltage (is that a word?). Got that method from my grandma and she was a baking wizard. :) Also, it helps to flour up the rolling pin to avoid sticking somewhat.

I like the song toward the end of the video where she sings "please don't love me" it reminds me of my life in the 1980s. Does anybody know the name of that song and the singer ? ❤

I think you should plan your next trip to the USA to coincide with the BBQ cook off in Texas. You can get some good tips and taste plenty of brisket.

With the ham and cheese, I would use Swiss or Jarlsberg, thinly sliced and rolled with the ham.

Try using canned almond paste. Put it in the end, roll them up. Paint with afterwards risen paint with egg. Wash and put some almonds on it. Sliced almonds and then after that's all done and they're cooked you. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
