Excellent. I was Sony, now Fujifilm. Then I tried a Q2. Amazing, but ended up buying a Q2M. Fantastic. Images are beyond expectation. My favorite of all. But yes, now I yearn for the M with the ability to change lenses. M10M?? Now I fear becoming a collector! But probably the M10R, since the Q2M scratches the mono itch so well. And there's no rush with Leica. You can build the system slowly without FOMO since used values hardly change and "improvements" are relatively minimal with new bodies. Thanks for this!
I kind of want to try a monochrome camera, but until then I’m trying my M10 in BW mode. I think if I was getting a monochrome I’d try to get the Q2M. Hoping prices drop a little with the Q3 release later this year.
I’ve been using the original Q (116) for about 5 years now (also bought used). Amazing camera cannot think of switching to anything else. Once I thought of getting the Q2 but huge files and relatively worse low light performance made me stick to the original. 28mm Summilux is simply amazing.
Dave, like you I shoot Sony Alphas for my photography business. I only shoot tradeshows, conventions and conferences. I went to Sony Alphas in 2021 after lugging Nikon gear for thirty years due to the weight and size of Nikons. I bought a Leica M 8 for my own pleasure. When Q came out I jumped on it. When Q2 came along I jumped on it. Now I'm shooting M-11 and Q2 but for the first time I've brought along my M-11 with the new EVF. It is a game changer. I am now seriously considering selling my Sony gear and going exclusively with Leica. Maybe an SL-2 rig to carry the bulk of my pro work but supplementing it with M-11 and Q2. Life is good!
Thanks for sharing! Such a similar story, but Canon instead of Nikon. Switched to Sony and have been there for several years, but now thinking of just going full Leica. Not rushing it though. Really processing it.
I have both of them M11 and Q2 I started with q2 in 2021 it was my first camera and I fall in love with it 💕 I did practice on my Q2 for 2 years then I bought my m11 with 35 mm apo-summicron-m which is an incredible lens. For me, m11 matches my character and gives me a premium experience which is hard to find these days with another cameras manufacturers. 🖤
That’s great! I heard that with the M11 sensor, you HAVE to use newer Summicron or summilux lenses to make the most of it. Would love to try one someday!
A long time Pentax user culminating with K1, I swapped to Sony for size and ended with A7Riv and back pack full of GM, sold it all, swapped for a Q, for size issues. Loved it so much i got the Q2 within days, double loved it, for quite a while, then I missed the lenses. 28 is actually my favourite, but sometimes I wanted something else. Q2 shots can crop so well that longer shots aren’t actually unattainable, it was wider lenses I missed, sold the Q & Q2. Got M8 and a couple of lenses, love the sensor, loved the instrument, but, I got the M10 because i wanted something more, and hated it, for a while, now i like it, sort of. I bought an A7Riv again, it felt like a long lost friend, mated it with a selection of Zeiss lenses and man its good. But, i missed it. So. I’ve just purchased a Q2 again. My Sony A7Riv and the Zeiss satisfies my urge in one direction and I know the Q2 works perfectly as my everyday carry. My M8 is my fun unit, when i just want to do some thing a little differently. And man, this Merry Go Round has cost me. Sometimes i think I ought to have stuck with the K1, na, maybe not. Leica just feels so good, it’s addictive. Sony is so clever. It’s a torment. Anyway, another great video mate, i enjoy your channel very much. I’m 73 but you and i seem to be on a similar path, camera wise.
We never really arrive at the perfect destination, we just wander through the forest and stop at every tree! I’ve been in a camera journey for 20yrs, but I am feeling at home with Leica… for now haha.
I own the Sony a7IV and several GM fixed focal lengths, but I am also interested in a Leica Q camera. But it is not intended to replace the system and I would no longer sell it. The possibility of doing something with 50 mm 1.4 should remain. I like the design of the Leica Q3 and how it is processed and it could be the only one I would take with me on vacation.
My first Leica is the Q2 and then I got add an M10 Monochrom with Light Lens Lab Summicron and Elmarit 28mm. For daily life, jewel photo and travel I use the Q2. For street and my own shooting time I use the M10M.
Excellent video, perfectly aimed at me. Q2M was my gateway drug and now I'm a Leica fanboy. I have a film M6 and SL2-S, both of which I absolutely love. I am getting ready to sell some of my Fuji and Olympus gear to finance an M11 Monochrom. Thanks for sharing!
I liked the comparison, thank you. I do long distance hikes and plan to do a crossing of iceland from north to south. Last few years , since losing my last camera in Scotland, i have hiked with only my iphone. Which is very light, convenient, and basically works for 90% of the time when sharing pics to friends. but I still miss a good camera for these few incredible moments and places. I also want to get back to putting more thought and art in to my shooting, get better and enjoy the post processing again. so I am thinking about buying either a q2 or an m to bring with me on that trip. The q2 is weather sealed which is important to me. the focal length though is why I am hesitant. In landscape photography I find that I use long focal lengths more often, esp in wide open , landscapes to which I often go and esp so in the interior of Iceland. The M however is maybe not as weather proof although I think it is also pretty good. rain and also (lava) dust can be an issue. Difficult decision (for a spoilt brat that is able to buy such a camera anyway).
Just stumbled on to your channel. So glad I did. I am on the wait list for the Q3. It will be my first Leica camera and want to use it as my EDC. Currently shoot the Nikon Z9 for action (Dog sports/wildlife) and Fujifilm X-T5 for everything else.
I have the M10-R BP with a 50 'lux and Q2 and agree with your comments on how to split their use, both have their place in right circumstances.. Love 'em both !
I am lucky enough to have both! When I want reliability and quick shots...I grab the Q2. When I want to be creative and spend more thought on a shot...the M10! Oh and if it's raining...Q2!!
I also bought a used Q2, fell in love and then bought a used M10. They each scratch a particular itch for me - the Q2 is an amazing everyday or travel camera, and for me the M10 is the more intentional “photographer’s” camera. I will never sell either one. Dream cameras for me.
I shoot the original Q (116) since 2 years back (mainly for casual shots where I don't want to work as hard to get the shots). Got an M240 a few weeks ago that is my daily driver now and I use it for personal work. I also own the SL2-s which is the workhorse to get shit done. I gotta say that owning a Q definitely was the gateway drug into Leica. I would be happy with just that tbh. But M cameras are just so nice to use and the SL2-s is the most reliable workhorse camera I've ever used for professional shoots. It's also really nice to adapt my Voigtländer lenses on it, the EVF makes it incredibly easy to focus.
It's like this video was reading my mind and dropped at the right time. I've been a 35mm and medium format film shooter forever and have been considering going for my dream, the M6, but with the rise in film costs and the desire to go out and shoot more, I've been looking at the Q2 or M10 instead to take with me to my honeymoon in New Zealand. I've gone back and forth between the two- the Q2 is weather-sealed, higher resolution, and attached to that sweet 28mm leica glass, but the M10 is a rangefinder and of the digital options retains a lot of what i love about film photography, slowing down and not staring at a screen. Honestly, after this video I'm still not sure where I'll go. I might just say screw it and continue with an M6 and just be broke developing film. But thank you for making this video and helping me with my indecision!
I love the M6. The M10 and the M6 are nearly identical in experience. I too have historically shot medium format, but have enjoyed switching to the M6. The weather sealing isn't as important for me, as I live in California where it rains about 10 days a year, and only in winter when we're all indoors! Either way, Q2 or M, you can't go wrong.
I was sorely tempted by the Q2, and in fact made a deposit on it when it was first announced. But, in the end I plumped for an M10-P because the 28mm lens of the Q2 was not wide enough for all my photographic needs, and although 47 megapixels would have been nice, 24 is sufficient for me. For my mirrorless camera, I have an SL2-S. Big and heavy, yes, but a joy to use, and I love them both.
Thanks for sharing! The locked in 28mm is a bit tough at times, but I do love having a 28mm Summilux with autofocus when I just want a wide point-and-shoot.
My Leica journey started in 1999 with a second hand R 6.2. The first digital was a new Digilux 2, then came a second hand M8, followed by a M240 and an M-P240. I bought a Q as backup camera, but the Ms are my first choice. I've tried both Zeiss and Voigtländer lenses. Now Leica glass only, OK, there's one very rare Pierre Angenieux zoom lens for the R-system. All my R-lenses can be used on the M with an adapter too. My set of lenses includes a 24/3.8, a 50/1.4 and a 90/2.5. Perfect for a press photographer. Conclusion: the M is for me. Keep on rolling!
Glad I came across your channel. Your journey is parallel to mine in that I was a Sony shooter (after Canon DSLR and Fujifilm X100T. I was shooting the A7RII-IV and had the A7III and a6600, with all the GM glass. I had been checking Leica out for a bit, because I am never satisfied, and finally bit on the Q2 for a travel cam ahead of a trip to Paris. It is now my EDC. I fell in LOVE with the Q2 Reporter, never enjoyed the post process so much, and now looking to sell my Sony system for another Leica (or two). I love film so was contemplating the M6 but, for my next digital, I am torn between the M11 and the SL2. After seeing this I am thinking the M11. Loved the vid, keep em coming!
I’d recommend you go M instead of SL2. I think you’ll love the M experience, especially if you’re already shooting great Sony gear. Thanks for sharing!
Your comments are right-on. I currently have a Sony aRV and have for more than 30 years Leica M6s with a nice battery of lenses. I will not give the M6s up but I would more than likely be buying the M11, and not the Q3.
My main camera was a Nikon D800 and a heavy bag of lenses when i first tried a M8 and a little Elmarit 28mm. I was shocked, the colours and 3D rendition. I tryed many lenses to get this with the Nikon, and finally i sold most of my gear. Now on M10, Q2... and M7😊
If you have a Leica M, the Q2 can serve as a back up camera in case your M has to be sent in for repair. That was one of my reasons for getting the Q2; it has also become my every day carry camera. In the role of an EDC camera, the Q2 has so much to offer.
It’s true. Buy a Q2 and you begin looking at the M. I found a less expensive alternative. My Sony glass is too sharp, too perfect, too clinical if you will. Every pore in a portrait is visible. Leica glass has a completely different look. Much softer and aesthetically more pleasing, as do Voigtlander lenses. I paired a M mount Voigtlander 40 mm f1.4 to my Sony A7iii and shoot it in manual mode with center or spot metering, recomposing if necessary. This has put the fun back in using the Sony. BTW, if you place a Sony A7iii body without a lens next to a Q2, they are the same size apart from the built in grip on the Sony.
Good video. I am a Leica user. I am thinking of Q camera and it is a great camera whether it is Q or Q2 both cameras in a good photographers hand is going to be a good tool. I am not thinking about Q3 as high pixel docent means the highest quality photography. It is another horse for a different course though.
Q3 is rumored to be coming later this year, but if history tells us anything, it could be sold-out and very hard to get for about a year (like the Q2 was).
Great video Dave! Just released a video on my channel about why the Q2 is still my most used camera after 2 years of owning it. I did have the M10 and ended up selling it to get the most value out of resell price… but now I’m looking at M10Rs… ah well, whatever makes you excited about getting out and shoot more ;-) Keep the goos videos coming! Cheers!
My original Sony RX1 is 12 years old. The fixed lens 35mm Zeiss Sonar T* lens is as awesome as the day I got. But now that the tech has aged it feels like an M camera. Check that, the RX1 still has autofocus and video, so feels newer than a modern M camera.
I once shot Fuji (X-Pro2) but sold that gear for a Canon R6 with the 24-105 f/4. It's ok, but honestly not great. The lens is good at many things, great at none of them. The body is solid, but has dozens of features and buttons I never use. It's mirrorless for former DSLR, users and it's trying to be everything for everyone. Nice camera, not a fun camera. So, it sits on a shelf. I'm not a pro, I shoot for fun. For me, the Q2 seems like the choice. Walk around, everyday, landscapes, architecture... and it's a Leica.
Hi Dave! Thanks for all the great content! I know it’s a long shot but I wanted to try to reach out via content. I’m picking up my first m10 Monday, and I need to get a 50ish mm lens. I know in one video you recommend, what you thought, was a great non Leica brand lens in that range. Can you share that info with me? I can’t see to find that video. Not ready to pull the trigger on the Leica 50 just yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Keep the fantastic videos coming, you’re killing it!
Thanks for the kind words! Here is a very affordable lens that looks just liked the Leica 50mm Summicron but with more stops. It isn't a "character lens" like a Summilux, but is absolutely fantastic and well loved and reviewed. bhpho.to/4cE5HNB
I think your comparison is perfect so thank you. Not a question of which one is better, more so which is better for ones personal experience. Think you’ve helped me pick the M over the Q2. Unless the Q3 has a 35mm lens… 😂
The M10 is like a digital 'film' camera, the authentic old school Leica experience. The Q2 is more like a Sony, Fuji style. A very, very nice camera that makes killer images, but the only thing Leica about it is the logo.
oh man! My problem exactly.... I love 35mm.... I wish the Q2 came with a 35mm. I have my 40th coming up, and I am going to buy a Leica.... the question is which one... I think the Q is going to be easier to move to, but the M with a 35 is probably what I should get. It may be a Q3... and then if I decide I want to go M... I can sell the Q3 for $1K loss... and probably pick up an M11 used for $2K less. By then I may have saved enough for the 1.4 Summilux. btw... I live in San Bruno so pretty close to you!
That’s awesome Dean! My 40th is in a few weeks haha. You’ll love Leica and can’t go wrong either way. I’m thinking of selling my Q2 and going fully M… but haven’t completely committed yet. I take the M out 9/10 times these days. The Q2 only comes out when I need a wide shot, OR if I am taking photos of my kids running around. Hit me up on IG and let’s connect!
I've had the Q3 for 1 year now in parallel with my Fuji system (T5 + 16-80,33,56 1.2). It's truly a fantastic cameraéxperience and the one I most use now in my travels. Poor Fuji :( hahaha But yeah, it's definitely a drug bridge to the M or the SL system. My dream set up would be some M lenses paired with the M11 and use with an adaptor on the SL for when I'm lazy to focus
Well stated, I had the Q2 for 3 years loved it sold it for the Q2M. On the Q3 wait list. I love the Q2M with the color filters the ISO/sharpnes on the monochrome is amazing. I do miss color ! Q3
That’s so cool. I’d love a Q2M but I just don’t shoot enough BW to justify it. I’m just being content editing them BW in Lightroom haha. Excited to see what the Q3 will bring!
@@davidherring totally understandable. I do shoot B&W so for me what I got with he Q2M is the ability to shoot clean in high ISO with incredible sharpness but I gave up color so I need a Q3 LOL That sums up the trade off, also the ability to use color filters on the camera is a lot of fun. One last point when you look through the EVF you always see B&W so it helps put you in the mind set
@@walkingmeditation61 I use to have an x100v and I set it up for BW shooting, with the EVF in BW as well. I really wanted it to work out but my brain couldn’t make sense of it when I tried. That said, I think I could today, and thought about putting my Q2 in BW mode to see how I like it!
@@davidherring yeah shoot some JPEGS give it a test ride. I understand it's not for everyone. I really enjoy it but I miss the Q2 as well. One you tuber made a video he said its irrational to have a Q2M. I told him its a matter of "use case" the trade off is you lose color but you can shoot in B&W at very high ISO with unmatched sharpness. Everything is a trade off but its not irrational
oh man. I'm at that point selling my Q2 after 3 years of using and switching to an M10 with a 35 Nokton Lense for start...The Q2 is a "prefect and beautiful Camera" in so many ways and one part of myself is punching me when I say it's too easy to use. Its always this "before I think a about taking a photo, the camera is so easy and so fast, the photo is made before I ended my thought about the object...so, the perfect snap tool. but on the other hand, its super boring. The perfect solution would be owning both. But personally for myself thats too much luxury in camera. So I'm making this challenge and got my new M10 before my 3 week roadtrip in the US westcoast. so , one smiling eye and one with tears letting the Q2 go and getting the M10 (my absolute dream camera and whenever I hold in my hands I can't stop smiling either)
Yeah for the most part. Just be mindful of your surroundings. Overly crowded places tend to be a bit safer for people, but tourist spots are often smash-and-grab sites, especially if you have out of state plates on your car. Never leave ANYTHING in your car, anywhere in SF. Ever.
Hey Dave, watching this again. I am on the Q3 waitlist. One of the things that waiting has done is made me consider getting the M10-R. I am curious, what is the specific Voightlander you have. Looks like there are a few different ones out there. Thanks.
I recently bought a FUJIFILM XT30 II with XC15-45mm F3.5-5.6 OIS PZ kit lens for Streetphotography and daily shooting purpose.... though I'm professionally a Pharmacologist... Hope one day I'll be able to get a Leica in INDIA 🇮🇳. 😊
I love rangefinder bodies. I have an M4 and a Fuji GW690ii for film. They're a pleasure to shoot with. For digital, I re-entered after a long hiatus with the Sony a7ii. I didn't like it. I ended up getting a Fuji X-Pro2. I do love that camera, but it's not a true rangefinder (Fuji's manual focusing system on its lens is their greatest mistake), and I'd like a little more than the crop sensor can offer in terms of resolution. A digital M (short of a miracle from Fuji) is really the most logical step, right? Or am I missing something else in the market? (I should note that the Q2 is attractive, but I worry about its longevity, and I prefer 35 or even 40 mm--maybe something the Q3 will address.)
I came to Leica primarily as a Sony shooter, but picked up the Q2 after I just couldn’t bond with the experience of the x100v. And the Q2 led me to the M. I really, really love the M system. I’m the experience of shooting with it is just as great as the photos themselves.
I own the Q2, and its great, would be even better for me too if it was a 35mm, other than that, what can be better with coming Q3?, dont need more pixels or tilt/swirl display. This is the one, a classic for shure, and it gets better with new firmwares. The weathersealing was a big deal for me coming from the original Q. As said, if it only could be 35 instead of 28…
Man if they put a 35mm Summilux on the Q3 I’ll 100% trade up. Otherwise, the Q2 is basically the perfect EDC camera ever made and I can’t see it getting better.
Agreed a 35 would be nice. I think the big upgrade in the Q3 will be a new AF and and improved video options/capabilities… but otherwise just a few tweaks.
The fear of walking around with gear in SF is real. It actually makes sense to run around with the Leica (which is crazy because WE know it’s expensive) but most criminals are looking for canon Sony etc. crazy
Bought an MP 9 years ago.. for $3000 exactly. Could sell it for more than that any day. Bought my M10 4? years ago.. for $4K .. got an offer for $4200 yesterday (looking to maybe buy a special edition M10-R.. so I’d have to “find some money” somewhere lol. But yeah- they definitely hold their value like none other
I adore our Q2 at work. Contemplating getting my own personal Leica. Not sure I like all of the new aspects of Q3, especially given the price difference. M series I fear is always a financial bridge too far.
I have a question i didn’t see answered : i like using a zoom lens when shooting during events, and i also like having that small form factor. I currently have a fujifilm X series , but would love to try a Leica! Is there any equivalent in the leica ecosystem ? Like maybe a zoom Lens on a leica M? Does it exist?
Leica is a prime ecosystem, with only one lens I’m aware of that has range but it’s 3 different focal lengths, 28/35/50. I wouldn’t call it a zoom, but it does click to three lengths in one lens. If zooms are your thing and you want to shoot Leica, consider the SL system, as it’s much more modern.
@@davidherring One last question if you have time, which 35mm Voigtlander lens would you recommend for environmental portraits of kids and family/friend? And occasionally some street photography.
Just watched your Leica exposure video, now this one. Experiencing tremendous GAS right now for that Leica look. Left Sony for Fuji, have 3 fuji bodies now, one being the H2S that I wont leave simply because its best for my sports photography. Just like you if the Q2 or 3 was a 35mm I would get it right now without hesitation....but because its not, I have to consider the M which the cost is just......question, for that "Leica Look" how much post do you need to do? Are the raw files that different then any other system and its just the post that you can get that Leica look? Love that voigtlander 35 you showed just makes me want to get an M even more....but the cost of that body!!! Thanks.
Totally get it! I watched videos about the Leica system for MANY years until finally moving into the system. As for how much I'm doing in post to get the Leica look? Honestly, no more than anything else I do in post. I have my presets I've made over the years, and I just put them on my Leica files. The Leica just looks different... nothing in post. The RAW files are just that, RAW files, but they for sure have their own look. Shoot me a DM on IG @daveherring and I'll happily hook you up with some RAW files you can play with yourself.
i wish e-mount had more manual glass, i only have an FX3 atm, am waiting til a new Sony sensor comes out to buy out bodies, bc i just started shooting vid last year and just got my first clients, and have a friend who lets me use his fx3 when i need a 2nd. i got a 65mm apo lanthar for like $350 a cpl months ago and fell in love w manual, and the img from the Lanthar got me curious about Leica, but i really don't wanna move to another mount just for a personal camera, so I'm hoping Sony's creating the RX1R 3 rn.. i have that 35gm and it's not really a fair comparison to stack up against the size of a manual lens, i picked up the 35 and 50 Loxia's and they're SO tiny, only f2 compared to the Lux's 1.4, and they're not the best lenses ever made, but i like mine, esp since i got like new copies for $550 shipped, total. really a nice walkaround option for me on the FX3 til i get a new body at least. i do wonder about adapting M-mount to e, almost bought a used techart lmea9 the other day, but then i read Matt Osborne say that he's heard M-mount doesn't adapt well to E, and i asked him to elaborate, but i guess he didn't want to, it was the first time he didn't answer one of my Qs... it sounded like someone just told him that, but i'd really like to know why, bc sony's usually good for adapting. nice vid, thx much
Thanks for sharing! I’ve had no issues adapting M lenses to my Sony system, though I don’t really do it often. But when I have they look great, but only on a Leica sensor do they fully look “Leica.”
If you want to take photos q2. If you want to make photos m10/11. The m is more close to film and provides more of an intimate experience of photography
I think experienced Leica shooters (especially those who started with film) will gravitate toward M. Q2 is usually for younger folks who want more modern camera. C'mon, you don't mention autofocus and Leica M in the same sentence (yes, I know what zone focusing is) :p
In my experience, a lot of Sony / Canon / etc. users are trying to research Leica. They don’t always really know the differences in the systems, so I made this video to help the process.
@@davidherring probably would be even more useful if you also mention Leica S system, because the overall experience feels modern... unlike M which is still manual focus and Q which is... well you only have 1 lens :D
There is nothing like the Leica M. M10 is still a wonderful camera and I would still pick it over M11. I would also still recommend to have and use the film M. Yes, film price is going up, but that is mostly color film. Shoot B&W, there are many wonderful stock for well below 10$, play with filters, light and contrast. For the price of a Q2 you can shoot and develop 300-400 rolls of film. Let that sink in.
Price, being the largest factor. Also there is some belief that the M11 with its high megapixels require modern Summilux lenses to really render, and that older lenses, which render fine on the M10 or earlier, don’t have the clarity or sharpness to really work with such a high resolution sensor.
If 24 megapixels is sufficient for your photographic needs, I think the SL2-S is a better camera, particularly for low light and video. I love mine. As an aside, I use Topaz Gigapixel when I need to enlarge an image, so megapixels are not an issue. That said, I rarely need to use it unless I crop heavily.
Both sl2/sl2s are amazing. Of course the sl3 will adopt the new sensor, however the current lineup is incredibly. The only reason for the sl3 is on sensor phase detection for autofocus if you need it… I’m a fine art landscape photographer, fine art portrait photographer so autofocus isn’t a huge deal.
@@davidherring fino = Fuji. On an unrelated note, can you lend me a fiver? 🤣 seriously tho, when the M11-P comes out, it might be my time to go for it. Either for that or because it will see some M11 resales and I’m more keen on that than the M10-R I borrowed in Jan 22
I am interested in this camera. How long does it take to get a pic and get pic small enough to text to family and friends on your smartphone quickly? What is your process? Thanks.
@@davidherring Right. I wouldn’t recommend an M to most people. Most people just want to look cool. A rangefinder is a very niche tool for a very specific use case.
This is called advertising. Someone wants you to spend money. Don't do it. Exploit the qualities of the camera that you already own and only if they are inadequate, look further.
As the Danish photographer says: When you buy a Leica you want another Leica.
Haha this is the TRUTH.
Totally agree 😁

I have both of them M11 and Q2 I started with q2 in 2021 it was my first camera and I fall in love with it 💕 I did practice on my Q2 for 2 years then I bought my m11 with 35 mm apo-summicron-m which is an incredible lens. For me, m11 matches my character and gives me a premium experience which is hard to find these days with another cameras manufacturers. 🖤
That’s great! I heard that with the M11 sensor, you HAVE to use newer Summicron or summilux lenses to make the most of it. Would love to try one someday!
@@davidherring it’s magic 🪄 you gonna 😍 the best lenses
Similar experience here. I got the Q2 and now I'm currently on the road to an M11 and Noctilux 50. lol. Gateway drug 100%.
@@ansleythestewart lucky you 😍I’m sure you will not regret it’s a great camera 📷
Literally did the same. Leica Q2 Reporter. Loved it so much got an M11 with a 35mm lens.
That's awesome. I love the idea of a monochrome camera someday.
That’s awesome!
Yeah, the Q2 is definitely better weather sealed. Easy to do with a fixed lens, because the entire camera can be locked up.
Just stumbled on to your channel. So glad I did. I am on the wait list for the Q3. It will be my first Leica camera and want to use it as my EDC. Currently shoot the Nikon Z9 for action (Dog sports/wildlife) and Fujifilm X-T5 for everything else.
Thanks so much! I love my Q2 as an EDC camera. You'll love that Q3!
I have the M10-R BP with a 50 'lux and Q2 and agree with your comments on how to split their use, both have their place in right circumstances.. Love 'em both !
That’s awesome! I keep thinking through swapping the M10 for an M10R… 🤔
Meaning all are not perfect 😅
I am lucky enough to have both! When I want reliability and quick shots...I grab the Q2. When I want to be creative and spend more thought on a shot...the M10! Oh and if it's raining...Q2!!
Agreed!
Same here
I also bought a used Q2, fell in love and then bought a used M10. They each scratch a particular itch for me - the Q2 is an amazing everyday or travel camera, and for me the M10 is the more intentional “photographer’s” camera. I will never sell either one. Dream cameras for me.
I can't see a scenario where I depart from Leica unless I'm in dire need to from hardships!
I love the M. It’s been revolutionary for me. It’s the most I’ve ever enjoyed a camera! Thanks for sharing 💪🏼
I love my M10 and M6. Can’t imagine not having one at this point.
Thank you a very clear explanation for someone like me who is considering swapping from Fuji. Unfortunately I now want both!
Haha I feel you! I eventually ended up with both! And I swapped my Fuji as well to move to this system 😬
Keep both. I have 3 fujifilm cameras and the Q2. I will sell the Q2 for the Q2 M. 😮
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks again Dave for your advice! I think I’m leaning toward the M10 currently, but let’s see! 🙂
If I had to keep one of the two I have, I'd keep the M10. Don't get me wrong - the Q2 is amazing! But the experience of the M10 is just so fun.
My main camera was a Nikon D800 and a heavy bag of lenses when i first tried a M8 and a little Elmarit 28mm. I was shocked, the colours and 3D rendition. I tryed many lenses to get this with the Nikon, and finally i sold most of my gear. Now on M10, Q2... and M7😊
What a journey!
If you have a Leica M, the Q2 can serve as a back up camera in case your M has to be sent in for repair. That was one of my reasons for getting the Q2; it has also become my every day carry camera. In the role of an EDC camera, the Q2 has so much to offer.
I love my Q2 and I agree, it's an awesome EDC camera!
Yep, my journey exactly. The Q2 is definitely the gateway. And absolutely, its awesome putting these M lenses on Sony!
Good video. I am a Leica user. I am thinking of Q camera and it is a great camera whether it is Q or Q2 both cameras in a good photographers hand is going to be a good tool. I am not thinking about Q3 as high pixel docent means the highest quality photography. It is another horse for a different course though.
Thanks for sharing!
Just the video I was looking for as an A7SIII owner that is trying to decide between a Q3 or M, thanks!
Cheers!
Thanks! I’m trying to fight the desire to look for an M10R. 😂
My original Sony RX1 is 12 years old. The fixed lens 35mm Zeiss Sonar T* lens is as awesome as the day I got. But now that the tech has aged it feels like an M camera. Check that, the RX1 still has autofocus and video, so feels newer than a modern M camera.
Thanks for sharing!
Yeah the Q2 is a fantastic camera. Does everything well with little compromise.
If it's character you're after, consider this at that same price point: lightlenslab.ca/products/50mm-f2-elcan
@@davidherring that’s the one!! Thank you!
I think your comparison is perfect so thank you. Not a question of which one is better, more so which is better for ones personal experience. Think you’ve helped me pick the M over the Q2. Unless the Q3 has a 35mm lens… 😂
If the Q3 has a 35mm Summilux then we’re all in trouble 😂
The M10 is like a digital 'film' camera, the authentic old school Leica experience. The Q2 is more like a Sony, Fuji style. A very, very nice camera that makes killer images, but the only thing Leica about it is the logo.
I agree, the M10 is a digital film camera experience. Love it!

One you tuber made a video he said its irrational to have a Q2M. So I'm making this challenge and got my new M10 before my 3 week roadtrip in the US westcoast.
so , one smiling eye and one with tears letting the Q2 go and getting the M10 (my absolute dream camera and whenever I hold in my hands I can't stop smiling either)
oh and btw. is it ok to carry an m10 on westcoast as a tourist talking through mostly the crowded parts? 😅
Yeah for the most part. Just be mindful of your surroundings. Overly crowded places tend to be a bit safer for people, but tourist spots are often smash-and-grab sites, especially if you have out of state plates on your car. Never leave ANYTHING in your car, anywhere in SF. Ever.
Thanks Dave! I’m a Leica SL2 owner, and want to buy a used Leica Q2 like brand new from a collector hopefully 😅 any tip on where to look at?

It actually makes sense to run around with the Leica (which is crazy because WE know it’s expensive) but most criminals are looking for canon Sony etc. crazy
Yeah a Leica is pretty unnoticeable if you cover up the red logo!
Very good comparison!
Thank you!
But yeah- they definitely hold their value like none other
Yeah, I want to find an M10R myself but the upgrade from M10 to M10R is too steep at the moment.
I adore our Q2 at work. Contemplating getting my own personal Leica. Not sure I like all of the new aspects of Q3, especially given the price difference. M series I fear is always a financial bridge too far.
Loved the Q2 but ultimately sold it because I shoot my M 90% of the time.
@@davidherring Thanks for the quick answer, i’ll look into it then :)
Since I am not a fan of the 28mm focal length, I would not get the Q2. That is why I will be getting the M10-P
28mm is def an unusual focal length. I love my m10 and basically treat my Q2 as a wide lens for when I shoot the Leica system.
I would love to take the Q2 out for a trial to see if it suits my style.

The Leica just looks different... nothing in post. i wish e-mount had more manual glass, i only have an FX3 atm, am waiting til a new Sony sensor comes out to buy out bodies, bc i just started shooting vid last year and just got my first clients, and have a friend who lets me use his fx3 when i need a 2nd. i got a 65mm apo lanthar for like $350 a cpl months ago and fell in love w manual, and the img from the Lanthar got me curious about Leica, but i really don't wanna move to another mount just for a personal camera, so I'm hoping Sony's creating the RX1R 3 rn.. i have that 35gm and it's not really a fair comparison to stack up against the size of a manual lens, i picked up the 35 and 50 Loxia's and they're SO tiny, only f2 compared to the Lux's 1.4, and they're not the best lenses ever made, but i like mine, esp since i got like new copies for $550 shipped, total. really a nice walkaround option for me on the FX3 til i get a new body at least. i do wonder about adapting M-mount to e, almost bought a used techart lmea9 the other day, but then i read Matt Osborne say that he's heard M-mount doesn't adapt well to E, and i asked him to elaborate, but i guess he didn't want to, it was the first time he didn't answer one of my Qs... it sounded like someone just told him that, but i'd really like to know why, bc sony's usually good for adapting.
nice vid, thx much
Thanks for sharing!

Great comment!
How about dust in sensors?
Only the M can do that!
my Tip : Q3 now ... alternatively wait for Q11 and following
Q11 seems really far down the road! 😂
I would honestly think that you would be an even bigger target among criminals with a Leica.
It’s a lot more discreet than you may realize. I can put my M in my jacket pocket when walking around. A big camera/lens is much more of a target.
I would want an M11 comin from an X100 original and and Xpro1
The M11 is a beast!
@@davidherring im sure it is. When i first heard about it . I was like, this camera is a game changer
if you have to ask a Q, if not you know
👍
There is nothing like the Leica M.
M10 is still a wonderful camera and I would still pick it over M11.
I would also still recommend to have and use the film M. Yes, film price is going up, but that is mostly color film. Shoot B&W, there are many wonderful stock for well below 10$, play with filters, light and contrast.
For the price of a Q2 you can shoot and develop 300-400 rolls of film. Let that sink in.
Thanks for sharing! Love my M10! and stoked to shoot more with my M6!
Curious, why choose the M10 over 11? TIA.
Price, being the largest factor. Also there is some belief that the M11 with its high megapixels require modern Summilux lenses to really render, and that older lenses, which render fine on the M10 or earlier, don’t have the clarity or sharpness to really work with such a high resolution sensor.
The real answer is you should get an SL2 or SL2-S.
Holding out for the SL3 before I move away from Sony. :-)
M it is then! Can keep fino to tick my Q box.
You will not be disappointed with the M!
Prob gonna take several years for M11 prices to become reasonable. 🤷🏻♂️
For street photography, nothing beats the Sony RX1R II.
To each their own!
I am interested in this camera. How long does it take to get a pic and get pic small enough to text to family and friends on your smartphone quickly? What is your process? Thanks.
@@inquisitvem6723 I actually cannot get the Leica Fotos app to work, so for me I can’t just save them. I have to SD card to my computer.
@@davidherring my apology for confusion . I was actually asking Maxwell about the Sony.
Ahh no worries!
so... you can have a selection of lens, that is why you bought the M. OK..
👍🏽
Want the M10 Monochrome so bad, just have to wait... or it will make me poor
Ha I like to say I have an M6 Monochrome. It’s an M6 with a roll of Ilford FP4!
So now they made a 43 :P
Yep, prob should update this video!
The Leica lens nomenclature has no relation to build quality.
Good to know!
If you have to ask, get the Q
Most people do!
@@davidherring Right. I wouldn’t recommend an M to most people. Most people just want to look cool. A rangefinder is a very niche tool for a very specific use case.
Serious GAS problem.
Nah.
Problem gelöst…, ich habe beide. 😂😄
Haha
Really! who ask you such questions???
I have been asked this numerous times. Thanks for the comment!
This is called advertising. Someone wants you to spend money. Don't do it. Exploit the qualities of the camera that you already own and only if they are inadequate, look further.
Thanks for sharing.
People actually ask what you use to put over the Leica logo? Jesus Christ, how do they manage to feed themselves?
A lot of people use gaff tape. The stickers I'm using are more elegant, so it's a fair question.
NO You should buy iphone XDDDDDDDDDDDDD damn Photo life for me is the way i feal free ;3
Cool, thanks
those stickers makes no sense.
I live and shoot in a very high camera-targeted area. Anything I do to minimize my cameras visibility makes me more comfortable.
@@davidherring just buy a monochrome
@@magiccarpetrider4594 I prefer shooting color.
@@magiccarpetrider4594 this comment makes totally no sense either haha
Criminals would bypass the Sony and go after the X100V nowadays!
That’s the truth!
Just put a bunch of Polaroid stickers on it and you could leave it outside for weeks.
