I guess if your gun can aim itself it gives you more time to focus on your mid-battle speeches, an important part of transformer warfare.
Oh when you wanna have fps feel hehe
Or even just lessen the response time after you've shouted "Eenhiliate them!" a la Cyclonus.
Yep😁😁 so true
But seriously. In opposition to standard weapons, Target-Masters did have own sparks, what mean that they could provide additional power to weapons. So Target-Masters would be extremely valuable option.
Either that, or Decepticon-targeted insults.
Megatron will always be Starscream's targetmaster
Holy crap I just realised!
@@tigerbread78 and shockwave to bruticus
And at the same time, Megatron will always be Soundwave's Targetmaster as well, LOL!
Or, Optimus Prime’s!
Oh yeah, he targets him alright
Considering that some sources have Headmasters, Powermasters, and Targetmasters be organic people who changed to be robots compatible with Cybertronians, I feel like there's a decent way to squeeze nightmare fuel out of these concepts.
"But can we make money off it?"
- Hasbro
"This looks like a job to me, so everybody just go with me! Never bring a bat to the battlefield, it feels like crap without me!"
- shockwave
Now that Rung is officially a Targetmaster according to Hasbro, this means that any of your Transformers toys can wield God as a gun!
@This channel only serves as a spectator on youtube an autobot from IDW's old transformers comics who was a psychiatrist.
@This channel only serves as a spectator on youtube and who is Primus in disguise. Yes THAT primus.
@This channel only serves as a spectator on youtube Don't feel too bad for not knowing who Rung is, most bots in the comic don't either!
BattleUp Saber 🤣
Kupe navigator Who doesn’t remember the time that GOD ITSELF was your psychiatrist (Seriusly WTF, I didn’t see that coming)
I could never fully get over the transformation of Targetmasters. Always got the impression they just bent over and sharted out bullets.
I hate you for putting that image in my head
hey so does Astro Boy
@@Machina_22 ah what the hell man I didn't need to know that today
@@kastor6497 it’s more his buttcheeks, but whatever, close enough.

I always liked the escalation of the Transformers warfare. From simple troops like Bumblebee, Starscream etc to Triple Changers, to City Bots, to Six Changers, to Planet Bots. Until even their own limbs and weapons became Transformers themselves.
This episode of "The Basics" is spot on target, a master of information. :)
I'm finally all caught up! I just binged watched every single episode of The Basics over the past week and now I'm here with my Hot Rod Targetmaster to watch this one!
Ricochet was the name given to the later Hasbro release. The original Takara toy was known as Stepper.
Megatron and Shockwave.. the original Targetmasters.
You do a amazing job with this series. Thank you for all the hard work. I was wondering.....would it be possible for a basics episode on hot rod himself. I mean I know he becomes rodimus and then a targetmaster. But what about the in between?
Thanks for giving a great video. I really didn’t know anything about the Target masters
I always liked the targetmaster concept. Sentient weapons. I hope the revamped comics explore it further.
Nice video. I do see the Targetmasters as being more sensible and useful than the Headmasters. Guns that can assist in aiming while the user can concentrate on moving on the battlefield, potentially stronger blasts stemming from either the Targetmaster's energy/spark or the user and when not in battle the guns turns into minicons to help around.
A video on the Throttlebots would be a good one.
All we need is a request from FreewayFan, WideloadFan, and GoldbugFan... ;)
Firecons and Monsterbots.
I guess that Megatron and Shockwave are not considered Target Masters because they don't have a bond with a specific transformer.
Megatron also has the ability to transform into different gun sizes while Shockwave can fly and fire himself in weapon mode, not needing a wielder.
Can you please make an episode dedicated to the *Aerialbots.* I know I said there's 1000 times over.
Support Chris on Patreon and he will.
Or maybe stop asking so much before he decides to never make one out of annoyance.
@@mrsamaritan6881 Okay then. I might as well give up.
He actually does take video suggestions on patreon, not sure if he takes comment section suggestions into consideration though
Carter Vandenberg Pretty sure he does, he often mentions videos being heavily requested,
Loving the new seige battle masters. Especially the melee weapons.
My favourite is Giza, it appeared in the Power of the Primes line as one of Nemesis Prime's swords.
Targetmasters made sense to use some existing characters, it was an easy way to fill the shelves, all you needed was to just take an existing figure and mold a new gun partner for them, cheaper then designing a new one.
*3:43** I love how this foreshadows Michael Bay's Cybertronian language*
I really like the comic explanation for it because it sounds like another one of Wheeljack's crackpot schemes.
Rodimus: "Ah man, I've lost my gun again. Need a new one."
Wheeljack: "Lost your gun, huh? Hmm...what if we turned an alien race into Cyborgs that turn into guns?"
Rodimus: "Or I could just grab a new one from the armory."
Wheeljack: "Too late, already doing surgery!"
3:43 That noise is adorable.
This puts a smile on my face.
Dynamite review man, absolutely love these.
Surprised there was no mention of Animated Starscream becoming a double homage to Headmasters/Targetmasters when he's reduced to a _literal_ head in the season 2 finale (and remains that way until the "Endgame" two-parter.) Only benefit to this was that Screamer couldn't shoot & talk at the same time since his mouth was the barrel!
Autobots: oh, darn, we have to fight the decepticons but we don’t have our weapons. Can you guys help us?
Nebulans: hmm… well I suppose we could completely alter our physiologies via irreversible biomechanical body modification to become weapons for you.
Autobots: or you could just like, build guns for us.
I love you man you are one of my favorite youtubers
I've heard of the Target Masters, but only vaguely, since there was no transformers media from my childhood that featured them.
Wait, Megatron’s original transformation was a handgun….
*HAS HE BEEN A GIANT TARGET MASTER THIS WHOLE TIME?!?!.*
Great video i know I ask this a lot but can you do a basics on thundercracker
I remember the commercials for the Target Master toys... The jingle was very catchy. Lol
Could we please get the basic's on Drift/Deadlock
I use the new War for Cybertron Pretender megatronus as a wrist mounted claw for megaton and it looks really good on the figure
You’ve already made a Basics video for my favorite Targetmasters: the Seacons!!
Fantastic video. Headmasters, Pretenders, and Targetmasters were always my favourites. Wish they did a few more battlemasters in those bright blue and red Targetmasters colour schemes so I could indulge my nostalgia :)
Here’s something you’re going to think about for a while
Since g1 Megatron transformed into a pistol he himself would be considered a target master right
I don't remember seeing any of the so-called Deployers in the Beast Machines toy line, especially since none of them appeared in the tie-in animated series.
Probably becuz it's from the late BM era.
And rid 01 came along and swept them under the rug
Two transformers out of one
The vehicle transforms, and so does their gun!
A Targetmaster is basically a robot that can turn into a gun. That has aimbot on.
Targetmaster Firebolt origins in different media :
- Marvel comics and cartoons : He is an alien with armor
- Hayato Sakamoto : Remember that one Chinese chick from Kiss Players? She has an armor-that-turns-her-into-a-gun now!
These episodes were nice but I kinda like basic on a specific character better
I’m glad you mentioned Megatron and the Mini-cons aa even I wonder if they’re Targeted Masters too in a sense.
An interesting concept that could be fun to explore. Imagine in the caste system that these were transformers that turned into tools for their larger kin, but as such were often treated as second class citizens since they were reliant on larger cybertronians for work. This led many to side with the decepticons who turned them into literal weapons that could function with or without wielders, or could even hack into and seize control of said wielders! It would explain a lot regarding their origins and partnership with larger bots.
First off great series I love it I've learned so much more about transformers through your videos than I ever thought possible. Now I have an interesting question for you with the target masters and other masters characters could some of the mini cons be considered as similar but not identical. What are your thoughts?
Good morning and good video Chris
So now you’ve done headmasters, pretenders, combiners, Titans, mini-cons, female transformers, those with beasts modes, micromasters, and now targetmasters. I think all that’s left are Powermasters, and triple changers, though there might be more that I can’t think of right now.
How about the basics on the legendary transformers weapons? The star saber, the skyboom shield, and the requiem blaster.
don't forget the forge of Solus Prime.
Do the basics on Transformers Toys! It would be really cool and a change of pace from the fiction-centric episodes. (Still love those episodes though.)
*TARGET ON*
I want the basics on octane now!
Saw a Ladybug book illustration in this. Maybe you can do a basics on Ladybug books, Marvel Comics, Dreamwave and IDW Transformers publications.
The G1 Targetmaster guns being Nebulans never made sense to me, even as a kid.
“Sure, I have nothing better to do with the rest of my life than be your gun” just seemed...weird? Them being other Transformers always seemed a better fit. It’s one of the few areas where the Headmasters show was better than the Marvel comic.
Love this series, it's always so informative and well presented.
But I'm curious about something, which Transformers toy has been re-used/re-painted the most times?
Not certain, but if I had to guess it would be one of Starscream's toys. He typically gets a minimum of 2 repaints for Skywarp and Thundercracker, and has been slightly retooled to make Ramjet, Thrust, and Dirge. His classics design was eventually repainted/retooled to make all six of these counting himself, plus a repaint for Acid Storm. I couldn't even begin to count convention exclusive repaints on top of that.
Can you do a video on the power master please
Both masters are so much better depicted in japan than in the USA.
I'm not convinced the reason why Targetmasters were renamed "Battlemasters" is become some of them are now melee weapons. In one of my own videos, I noted that a sword that can control what angle its blade is at is still "targeting", target isn't a gun-only thing.
This video is definitely on *target*
Can you do the basics on Megatron
My head canon was a mix of several of the vague concepts. They are Transformers that link with the wielder, aim themselves by controlling the arm, and are more powerful because they’re an entire separate life form with their own energon supply.
I really like the targetmasters. I find them way better than the headmasters who hog the attention. As a target master gives the transformers a partner can fully function as there own being. And gives a gunner while in vechile mode.
I’m surprised you didn’t hit on the fact that Classic Cyclonus targetmaster connects to his wrist as homage to the Japanese targetmasters.
You forgot Shockwave! He was the original gunformer in the cartoon even though his toy was delayed until 1985...
We can rebuild them, and make them more efficient than they ever were. Smaller, faster, handheld…
When Headmasters and Targetmasters came out, my fifteen-year-old self thought, Somebody's smoking something.
Right. I was much younger than that & thought the Headmasters were stupid. The Targetmasters made sense to me because Megatron & Shockwave already existed.
Hay Chris can you do the basics on transformers dream wave comic continuity
Targetmasters are really cool
I’ve always preferred the Targetmasters over the Headmasters
Same
For once, I actually prefer the Takara lore, with them. I hate the name "Master" though, and prefer to use "Nebulous".
I don't know if Headmasters or Targetmasters makes more sense. Your gun would become a guy with a *smaller* gun, or your head...
I like spark-draining idea. I always imagined that was how it worked, similar to Megatron in gun mode.
Little transformer who are called nepilans who can transform into head for headmasters and they also transform into weapons for autobots and decepticons.
The scene in the g1 cartoon were optimus meets the target and head masters was my favorite
I'm bringing Targetmasters to the forefront in my fanfiction too, most notably Hot Rod's partner, Firebolt.
What’s your fanfic called?
@sivanlevi3867 what’s your fanfiction called?
I really want to know so that I can read it
Thing is, I don't really have a title. It's not even out and I don't even know if I'll ever release it. It's really just a project that I've been working on ever since I've started watching the Basics.
Love these videos
Sinister was one of my favourites
Wonderful work as always Chris 👍
Can you do the basics on the Duocons? (Not to be confused with the Duobots not sure if they’d be better as a separate video or one video. As I understand it duocons are robots whose bodies split into 2 vehicles when transforming. And duo-BOTS are robots who combine into a single alt mode)
Really wanna see 'em on the Live Action movies~
Has Ricochet actually appeared in any fiction using that name? This is one of the cases where sticking to the Hasbro name just seems odd to me. Though I guess if the Viz release of the manga gets to Headmasters, they’ll likely use Ricochet there.
3:42 Huh, now the Armada minicons make sense
Another great video
it seams like japan did a better job adapting the minicom precursors than we did in the west.
If you really want to piss off Megatron, call him a "puffed-up Targetmaster."
Your remaining lifespan will be measured in microcycles, but it'd sure be hilarious.
the Japanese G1 Targetmasters are kinda cute with their beeping languages, reminds me of the Ewoks from Star Wars.
I think I had some of those "double Targetmasters". As I was born in 88 I grew up with G2 and some used older transformers I got second hand so I can't tell for sure.
1:03 SIX evil planes, when there were ONLY FIVE of them.
Great video once more.
This was a really good idea that died out. I didn't .care for the people being part of the weapon. The Japanese version is better
Can you please do the basics on "Weponisers"
I was wondering if you were bring up the fact that Megatron could have been a Targemaster XD
Only in G1 continuity.
They had become an obscure lore, but a very interesting one!
Sureshot and Point Blank baby!!!
Megatron is just a swole Targetmaster. Change my mind.
Regarding the headmaster mini series comic, I've always wondered why the Autobots didn't just build new normal guns without disfiguring humanoids? It's not as if it made that much difference in the battle with the Terrorcons.
That was asomw great job as usual . but i must ask what was that clip with Browning i never seen him in any series before plus he had a decepticon logo on his chest i thought he was never used in the transformers line PLEASE , PLEASE let me know the info on this
Wait I just thought of this, could g1 Megatron technically be a target master
To The Basics: You know who you forgot? Combined Wars' Shockwave!
I wonder if we’ll get a transformers the basics episode on the brain masters?
I say yes, I fave Targetmasters and even they new concept; Siege Battle Masters. Sadly, I don't any official Targetmaster toys so I'm so hopping to get Siege Battle Masters.
They're worth it, I have a few of them and they're pretty good figures
Can you do a basics on prima the first transformer and the leader of the thirteen original Prime's
I’ve always thought the Targetmasters were cooler than the Headmasters or Powermasters.
