Massive thanks for the timely update, PlanetSail. After inside tack , and planet sail waiting for some debrief from Mozzy, that's my Chanel 1,2,3 for the weekend. =)
The NZL tacking! OMG, they're coming out 5kts faster (and HIGHER). There is something about the sail trim and the foil that is just another league on the NZL boat. Downwind, Ineos is still a weapon, but the race advantage to windward to just too much to overcome. Wouldn't be surprised to see this 7-0 from that windward performance. To be fair, the wind conditions were terrible.
@@darrinkinney2268 even scarier to consider that the kiwis might still have levers that they haven’t pulled too. I remember in Auckland they found gears no-one else knew existed..
The kiwi's have always looked good in the light stuff, lets hope for a bit more breeze tomorrow. As you say, it's too soon to draw any conclusions. Best of luck tomorrow.
No one is saying the obvious, NZ has the speed edge, which makes a MASSIVE difference with these boats, it means you can come back from an unfavourable wind shift or stay in front cover or sail your own race Remember it’s always the FASTEST boat that wins the Americas Cup
Indeed, it immediately seemed faster. To me NZ also seemed a bit sloppy(maybe due to a poor setup) in the 2nd race but still ended up winning by a significant margin.
@@kearseymorton2078 I’m highlighting the point that if the British tweak their boat and make it the faster boat they will win, J Spitthall in Oracle team USA had the greatest comeback in sporting history by winning 8 races in a row to beat the Kiwis, everyone thought it was game over, they won because when their backs were against the wall they ended up with the FASTEST boat sir
@@michaelhermans4753 looks as if there might be a speed difference in favour of the defender but so far Ineos has not won a start and are dancing to the tune of the piper. Stats show average speed and emg very similar.
Maybe next time mate. Also (I’m just saying) GB has always had a class system (similar to the armed forces) and NZ doesn’t. Makes it easier to work as a team with no dignity in the way. We also share our/your King remember.
The Kiwis seem to have the faster boat in these lighter wind conditions, but I expect the Brits to be better in stronger winds. If they can get ahead of the Kiwis in the first leg and then cover them all the way through, then they should have a good chance of winning.
Awesome coverage always, but I dont think the pre start analysis is quite right. I dont think NZ kept clear at all. The Brits did their usual circle to become follower after entering on port and the Kiwis tacked around and hunted them, which we never saw Luna Rossa do. 10m closer and the Brits wouldnt have got across and been penalised. Burling's little laugh at the question was exactly the right responce, because they were metres away from earning a penalty. NZ easily won the first start and were faster and closer to the line on the second start, two races, two start wins, what more can you ask for?
Good to see the kiwis looking sharp after some competition downtime. Very ominous to hear Ben's familiar post match interview tone. He's been here before, said the same things and ended up the victor. Enthralling stuff!
@@pdublt3d that aggressive pre start in race 3 backfired, I think he’s getting a little nervous, some “body line” tack tics might be his last resort 😂 If I can’t beat them I’ll break them
Yet to see if it's a conditions thing. NZ has already shown previously that it performs well in light air. We also know Ineos is an absolute rocket downwind in a good breeze. I wonder how much weather will affect the outcone here.
NZ quicker through the tacks. Possibly pointing higher too. Everything else pretty similar. NZ looks like a winner from here. The Inez’s team could pick up a couple though.
Can someone tell me what the problem is when they entered the start box. After all they still had a minute or more to get themselves at speed on the start line when the gun goes off!
I am grateful for the labor of love. But yes there does seem some catching up on the Puig to do. As of Saturday PM Matt has up several dozen PlanetSail AC75 videos, half a dozen Youth videos, and only a single video (4 days ago) on the Puig.
Britannia had to step up massively to get on terms with LR but I think this is a bridge too far. Having to lock in the boat spec 5 days before is more than a little anti competitive though.
Would love to see both boats sail at least 1 race using same sail configurations or maybe 2, then each team could choose 1. As a Kiwi I want TNZ to bring it home yet will be happy if the poms make some history. May the best team win.
Brits and other teams knew the wind conditions will be around the light range 6-13knts I guess the Brits taking a gamble, will soon see if it pays off However I feel the Kiwis a boats for all wind ranges Go 🇬🇧
This will, sadly, be a whitewash. The rules are skewed way to far in favour of the holders for it to be any sort of even competition....regardless of who was up against the kiwis.

I wish there were more races -- first to 9 at least!
Great stuff Matty ….. Ben looked a little shell shocked . Brits need at least a split tomorrow.
'Even after talking to both of them I'm still not sure'. I would have thought Ben saying the kiwis were faster out of the tacks was very significant.

It will be interesting to see whether that holds true in stronger wind conditions, but I think Ineos Brittania would be worried at this stage.

ETNZ seemed to be underpowered in Race 2 with the J3 jib.
You may be correct but thy were still faster than GB
Tack speed an Achilles heel for Brittania in all previous races as well

No reason. Prada made starts predictable. Etnz will have learnt from that mistake especially given the talk way back at Bermuda
A little sad, that you didn‘t cover the Womens AC final
hopefully he covers it later like he did with some days of the youth

It doesn't look good for Ineos. They need to find a bit more speed for tomorrow. Particularly upwind.
