So sorry to learn about Smoothie's passing. One of my eastern grey's, Ariana, was killed by a car last week. It sucks as these little gems are put in our world to make us stop and notice how precious life can be. When I had COVID last December, this is when I bonded with the squirrels around my home. They've always been here, and it's up to us to respect them and help them whenever we can. Even a little water dish like you have helps them find CLEAN water and costs nothing. I love squirrels!
I totally agree with you about putting out some water for any and all animals that may pass through your yard on a hot day, I feel so bad for them that I've been doing it for a few years now.
Oh no! Poor Smoothie 😭 She was trying to tell you the other day she wasn't feeling well. I'm so glad you were there to comfort and feed her during her final days 💔💔

I know what it's like to lose a 'garden pet'. I was lucky enough to capture mine and Halftails last ever visit. there was just something about her that told me 'this is it'. and I cried for days. she showed me trust, friendship, took a nap on the kitchen windowsill, and she was just awesome. she taught me so much. I left the videos as they were, feel free to watch them when you're able to - I get emotional about them too. I said 'garden pet' because that's the literal interpretation of what they are - and being woke up at daft o'clock in the morning in spring with an upset squirrel 'waaaaaaa... kuk kuk waaaaaa' because another squirrel got too close. and with the window ajar enough, that gets amplified - and living in a ground floor flat where I prefer the doors open and the windows open in spring, well, if the birdsong doesn't get you at 3am, two squirrels squabbling over feeder rights at 8am definitely will!!! unfortunately, grey squirrels are treated lower than vermin here in the uk. but, we owe it to them to help them as much as we dare try to. and we can't help being who we are and we can't help but respect all who attends our feeders and protect them - that is who we are. that is what has made us. our eyes see their perspective. if Smoothie had kids, you can be sure they're still around. they'll be somewhere close by. I reckoned my Halftail was at least 6 or 7 years old. she instigated the friendship... I was just happy to be the 'nut supplier'. if it was raining, she'd damned near break the window trying to get to sit inside out of the wet and get a bite to eat - couldn't deny her, no matter how hard I tried! I know there's definitely offspring roaming around here - they all know where the windowsill is! we just have to keep being us. keep feeding, keeping watch, and being there.
Your video of Halftail's last visit made me cry. That she would come to see you one more time even when she was clearly struggling shows how much she loved you. It's incredible that she lived so long; most squirrels are lucky to make it past a year in the wild, from what I've read. I have no doubt that having you for a friend is a large part of the reason she made it as long as she did. And there's so much wisdom and truth in what you wrote in the description for that video. These animals are special. They have a lot to teach us if we're willing to pay attention. In their small but boundless souls, I see a microcosm of all that matters in any life: love, friendship, the struggle to survive in a sometimes harsh world, and gratitude for the great gift of being born. Your Halftail reminds me of my Newsom. I have a group of daily backyard visitors now (some of whom allow me to feed them by hand, which will always feel like the most incredible gesture of trust to me), but long before I ever saw a single squirrel set foot on my property, there was one little grey lady who made her home in a park I visit a few times a week. She insisted on becoming my friend. She was the first squirrel I formed a special bond with, and the first one who let me hand-feed her on a regular basis. She would cover the entire length of the park just to get to me and say hello. And she outranked everyone. If anyone dared to get too close while she was eating, she would start grumbling like a furry little monster truck. But she was always so gentle with me. I'll never forget the first time she reached out and grabbed my finger. I knew her for just shy of two years. I got to watch her grow up. The last time I saw her, I knew something was wrong. She knew it too, but she could only tell me with her eyes. I still don't know if she was sick or just worn down. I know a squirrel's life is hard. She looked physically fine, but the light in her eyes was fading. She looked at me like she was saying goodbye. On my next walking day, I found her not far from the spot we'd first met. It was like she was trying to hold on long enough to see me one more time, and she just couldn't make it. She's buried in my back yard, so she'll always be in a safe place. For a good week or two after I lost her, just thinking about her made me weep like nothing ever has. I didn't know I could love any living thing that much. The sting of that loss is still there. I know it always will be. But more than anything, what I feel now is a profound happiness that I was lucky enough to know her at all, and that she chose me to be her person. She shows up in my dreams once in a while. That gives me comfort. And I can feel that she's still around in some form, watching over me and my surviving furry friends. I read a great quote once. I think it was from someone who was talking about pet rats, and how painfully short their lives are. I think it applies to our special squirrel friends too: "They may only be here for a small portion of our lives, but we're fortunate enough to love them for all of theirs."

I had a wonderful horse named Smoothie that I raised from a newborn. She was the smartest, most loving horse that I ever had. She died when she was 4 yrs old. That was 30 years ago and I still cry when I think about her. RIP to both Smoothie's!
Technology has finally brought us the blessing of watching squirrels arrive at a window to eat food in a maximally cute fashion with their furry, somehow relatable faces and little "hands". If you were feeding fish to sharks or like whole cows or whatever they could eat, it probably wouldn't be as cute. See ya, Bessie--Jaws be hangry!
I had a squirrel pal, Maurie, who waited for me when I got home from work and I would give him nuts. Everyday. For over a year. Then I found him at the curb. He got hit by a car. I knew it was him from his markings. I gave him a proper burial. He was a cool squirrel. Miss that lil guy!

I bought some organic almond butter after watching your channel and they love it on a little piece of apple.! I am sure you will see Smoothie again, I once asked a priest, if dogs go to Heaven, and he said to me,” when you love some thing, you give it a soul, and all souls have access to heaven, so I am sure your little Smoothie will be waiting for you when the time comes….✨
RIP Smoothie 🌻🐿
RIP smoothie and condolences to your family
Thank you ❤️
Ohhhh noooo! Not precious Smoothie. 😕😟😢 Thank you for the fact that we all got to know her. What you do on here is so wondeful. But, it's still real life. We never know when they will return to the window and if they ever will again. They are to be treasured. And you definitely do that well. My heart is heavy. RIP Smoothie love.😘
It's Brave Lillie. Scared of the stuffed squirrel , but went for it anyway.
Rest in peace, Smoothie. I'm glad we got to see a glimpse of her life even if only for a brief time. She was definitely an exceptional squirrel and through your channel really helps showcase to others the range and depth of emotion, curiosity, and ingenuity these little neighbors of ours possess.
Smoothie will always be missed🖤 Sweet little critter, we're so blessed to have known her & terribly sad that she had to leave.
Thank you very much for your kind words and generous gift. ❤️
Condolences on your loss. It's so difficult to see innocent creatures suffer.
Smoothie will forever be in our hearts. I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing these precious moments with us. Rest In Peace. ❤

RIP Smoothie 😢❤
So very sorry for the loss of Smoothie. We loved seeing her on your channel as well, she was so cute and smart. We lost one of our favorite squirrels tragically last October, and it is still difficult to come to grips with the grief. We try to remember how much we helped our little friend and did all we could to make his short life better. This is what you have done and more for your squirrels. They are so lucky to have you caring for them and looking out for their health. ❤🩹❤❣
Aww RIP Smoothie😢🥜🥜💔
I'm so sorry to hear about Smoothie. 😢I've watched a lot of your videos and saw the bond you had with Smoothie. A compilation video of clips highlighting your journey with Smoothie would be nice when you're feeling up to it. I love, love, love squirrels and the most I can do is enjoy watching them play from my window. So, your channel is special to me here on UA-cam. I began looking for squirrel videos some months ago and most were like 20 or 30 sec videos, or they were made 9-10 years ago which were not the best quality then. Please keep sharing your adventures with all your squirrel friends with us. God bless you❤💖
Just started watching your videos & love ❤️ everything you do for these adorable squirrels 🐿️.
Oh dear. Sorry to hear about Smoothy. She was becoming one of my favorites too. Nice tribute to her.
Oh, no! You lost Smoothie? I am so sad to hear this! 😢💔 Still binge watching, so I'm 5 months late to offer my condolences. Losing a beloved friend is always so hard. Thank you for living and caring for her! 💕 She was a beauty!
Thank you ❤️
I’m so sorry about smoothie that was way before I found this channel
I love your squirrels. God is amazing.
Really sorry to hear you lost smoothie 💔
So sorry to hear that you lost Smoothie. I so much enjoyed seeing her in your videos. She really gave so much pleasure to everyone who loves wildlife. I feed my own squirrels, chipmunks, and birds. They are getting a special treat of raw almonds this week in memory of Smoothie. Hugs to you.
It's always hard when we lose a friend. The pain you feel is a measure of the love you've felt.
I am so sorry about Smoothie. I will miss her. Still grieving the loss of my 17 yr old cat on may 25.
So sorry for your loss dear. :( I'll never get over losing my kitty who lived to be 18yrs. old herself. But God comforts. Thnx B2 God, God Bless you in Jesus Holy name. :)
So sad and sorry that you (and we all) lost Smoothie, she was a lovely squirrel. 😢💔My condolences to you.
I'm so sorry to hear about Smoothie. I'm shocked. Smoothie brought a lot of joy to you and many people. I hope Smoothie didn't suffer.
I also see Squint's going to be the new Alpha.
Many young squirrels will continue to need your love and support. Thank you for you work.
Rest in peace little smoothie 🙏😔
I’m so so sorry you lost Smoothie, I agree with Robin, any animal lover really does feel deeply for you, you could go through it 10,000 times and the last would hurt just as much as the 1st, I really am sorry. I loved Smoothie too, I always will….the next new Squirrel we get I will name it Smoothie if that’s ok? …….in honour……we hadn’t seen one of our squirrels Mitty in 7 months and she returned, we couldn’t believe it, she has babies, we think she came back to have them, not sure, but we like to think so because she knew she would have enough food…..you do such an amazing job and you’re so caring, these squirrels lives are better for you……God Bless Smoothie xx😢xx❤xx
Thank you very much, I would love it if you would name your next new squirrel Smoothie. 😊❤️
Im so sorry you lost one of your little fur babies!💔🙏❤
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. Smoothie was beautiful. She’s never truly gone as long as your memories of her and your love for her survive. 🌹🐿
Oh No! I’m so sorry! I feel really bad for sweet Smoothie and you. Bless her sweet soul
Thank you ❤️
I had a wonderful horse named Smoothie that I raised from a newborn. She was the smartest, most loving horse that I ever had. She died when she was 4 yrs old. That was 30 years ago and I still cry when I think about her. RIP to both Smoothie's!
So sorry to hear of Smoothies passing. So sorry for your loss & pain . She will be missed
You no doubt make the lives of these little squirrels a little happier :)
Lily sniffed the stuffed squirrels butt like: "Are you in line?" LMAO!
Lol 😂
I am so sorry for your loss 😢
